Hey everyone! Sorry for taking 2 months to upload, as you can see this Violet Evergarden video turned out to be way longer than expected... After rewatching the series, I got a new found appreciation for the show and wanted to convey how I felt and what I took from it's core messages. I used to think that Violet Evergarden was just a good show with some standout moments but this rewatch has made me better appreciate the more subtle and unspoken details about the series. If you enjoyed the video be sure to like and comment to help with the youtube algorithm! I do read every single comment I get and try my best to reply to most of them. Hope you all enjoy and I'll see you all next time! :)
1:36 I think the entire point of Violet's backstory is that. To feel out of place. She grew up in a war, and now she lives a peaceful life. In the early episodes, she takes even basic requests as "commands", but later on in the anime she's broken free of this habit. I think the point of her backstory is to show that she grew up in an environment where she was trained to be an emotionless warmachine, and this really puts a weight on how hard it is to convey human emotions to someone who has never truly felt them. This show is truly a masterpiece in terms of development and storytelling.
After watching the finale movie, Violet Evergarden officially cemented itself as my favorite anime of all time. It already was, 😁 but after that, it really became official!
I've seen all of Violet Evergarden, & I think it is a masterpiece that cannot be improved except for one, very important detail. Now, this is my own hot take, maybe hotter than the surface of the sun. However, I think I bring up a valid topic of discussion when I say; the movie ruined the ending. Everything before it was a well-crafted life lesson on how to deal with loss, & overcoming grief so that you may spread happy emotions to the people you have right now. It was even wrapped up nicely with the beautiful stories in the OVA & first movie. However, I feel that bringing back the major was a huge dampening on the true meaning of letting go. I just can't help but feel the meaning of the series was changed from "moving on", to "wish hard enough & your wish will come true", all because of one movie.
Episode 10 freaking broke me. The day before I watched it, my dad who's passing away after having his third cancer relapse, handed me a letter he wrote over the past few months. I absolutely balled the entire episode cause Ann's story just felt so relatable, and I am genuinely too terrified to open that letter. I've strayed too far from what he and my mom wanted from me. I just want to know that they really would have loved me no matter what, and that we weren't held together purely by religion.
It’s a sad thing when someone passes away, and those left behind always experience some kind of grief, and even then, some people never stop grieving. I’m sorry you had to go through that pain. It probably feels suffocating. I hope you’re pain eases❤️
Violet evergarden is probably one of the most beautiful story for me. It just explores normal human emotions everyone has so brilliantly and beautifully.
Without a doubt, Violet's journey is definitely one that I find so beautiful due to the in-depth perspective that KyoAni takes into describing the details of unveiling the hidden emotions.
Same. We need more stories like it. Many people don't really asks themselves what real love is, or put romance on a pedestal because it is the most chaotic relationship rather than because they have a layered perspective on it (look at pretty much every western romance or chick flick. Non of them say anything new or meaningful about love that I know of). Violet Evergarden did include a lot of romance, but it uses romance to indirectly interrogates us on what we mean when we say "love". This show spoiled me. Despite thinking that, I get why one would say it's boring. Maybe social conflict or topics like wanting to know what "I love you" means isn't interesting to them. It's very much a girl's show.
27:09 I always loved one more thing about this scene that you didn't mention. In this scene when Violet mentions her coworkers Ann asks "there are more dolls that more by themselves?"(because Ann doesn't realize that Violet is a person until the last part of the episode). Now imagine if Ann said that to old Violet. Violet would immediately correct her and explain she's a human being. Instead here Violet just pauses for half a second and nods and says "that's right." She understood that little bit of misunderstanding made the soon to be orphaned girl happier...So she played along till the end. I loved that little show of growth in violet :)
I just want to say, that this is the first anime in all my life that made me _cry_ in _each_ episode. I don't know if it was because I was tired when I watched it, but I remember it was so damn powerful that I just couldn't not cry. No animes made me cry before, nor movies nor series. Tears in eyes yes, feeling things yes, but never cry. This is really a first time for me, and that is also an other point that makes me think this anime is a true masterpiece. The animation, the story, the characters, everything is incredible. I think this is my favorite anime/piece of fiction of all time.
Interesting. Are you sure you cried each episode? I tried to watch it because of positive reviews and I also like slice of life anime in general. But when I watched Violet Evergarden, I dropped it after episode 2. I didnt feel anything while watching it. The visuals are so good but the story (especially ep1 and 2) is so boring and shallow that i cant continue watching it (note: this is just my own opinion so if this anime is so good for you, I wont argue about it).. I cried on several anime before (Clannad, A Silent Voice, Your lie in April, One Piece, To Your Eternity, Anohana, etc) but just didnt feel anything on the first 2 eps of Violet so I'm really surprised that each of Violet's ep are really cry-worthy?
@@JkAlombro Yes, yes I did. Everyone is different though, you can dislike this show while other people can like it 🤷♀️ I would still advise you to watch the entire anime before making an opinion on it though. It had happened to me to not be interested in an anime in the beginning but love it when I finish it
@@kiyomi_kamimoto yeah. I don't dislike it though just to be clear. It just didn't connect to me. I'm that kind of person who decides to continue based on the first 2 to 3 episodes of something (be it an anime, cartoon or series) if it is interesting enough. That's why I'm really confused on why this anime is so well reviewed despite the fact that the first 2 episodes didnt receive any emotion from me while watching it. Yeah I will try to continue watching it. Dunno when I can convince myself to do that tho. P.s. Dont worry, I dont see it as a trash/bad anime.
I cried every episode too.. I connected to Violet so much, idk why cuz we’re not that similar. I guess I had so much empathy for her. Also I was on my period at the time so I was extra emotional 😭
This show is truly a masterpiece in my eyes. It legitimately changed my life and help me get over some feelings regarding a relatives passing that I thought I had gotten over when in actuality I just kept those feelings bottled up inside. I thought it was difficult for something to make me cry until I watched this show for the first time. Violet’s story and the stories of those she touched through her interactions with them ended up making me cry more times than I ever had before. Even those who weren’t big fans of the show still acknowledge that episode 10 is one of the best single episodes of anime ever. In my opinion, Violet is one of the greatest characters I have ever seen in media ever. Thank you for making this video on my favorite anime and for showing everyone how truly special this show is to me in a way I don’t think I ever could
Episode 10 made me crying like a baby for hours. It made me remember my dad and the fact that I bottled all my emotions up and stopped crying or knew how to react anymore during sad situations after he passed away 3 years ago from cancer. Even now, whenever I listen to the OST for this anime and this episode I cry.
"I Want To Know What 'I Love You' Means..." - Violet Evergarden. Whenever I think of the Words, "I love you", I'll always associate it with The Violet Evergarden Series. I always thought the words, "I love you", was just a phrase people say with no deeper meaning behind it. To me, it was just a phrase to get people to understand and express that they simply enjoy the other person. An easy, yet simple phrase to express to one another. Of course, I have to admit that I was so oblivious and dense to ever think that before. The Violet Evergarden Series has really taught me what the words, "I love you", could truly mean. Love is special, and the moments with the people you love are absolutely precious and truly cherishable. It conveys a sense of hundreds of thousands of emotions in just three 3 words. After watching the whole series, including the Final Movie, it really hit me hard and opened my realization to the words "I Love You". At that moment, it absolutely made me want to shed tears on how beautiful those words were. I'll never forget my experience with this emotional rollercoaster of a series and I'm forever grateful. Thank you Kyoto Animation for making this wonderful anime and Thank you Kevin Nyaa for making this outstanding video on your perspective on the Violet Evergarden Series. "You have to live Violet...you have to live.....be free....from the bottom of my heart... I love you." - Gilbert Bougainvillea
I loved how Violet Evergarden covered the effects of war in just about every aspect. Throughout the show there's bits thrown in about how with all the new technology they've begun advancing in building. Electric lights, elevators, radio towers, all new kinds of stuff. The whole reason auto memories dolls existed was (if I remember correctly) there wasn't a lot of people who knew how to read/write, so they would write letters and documents. The fact that they are very rarely shown writing for people who don't know how to write implies that it is no longer a nessity, but rather a luxury (meaning more people know how to read). Throughout the show you see the effects of war on families as well; memorials for soldiers who went missing in action, families grieving the loss of loved ones (not only soldiers but people lost in crossfire as well). And of course the grief of the soldiers who DID make it home as well, having to deal with the guilt of their actions and the trauma of seeing a fellow soldier die in the battlefield. I've never been in the military, but from what I know from talking to people who have actively served on the front lines, there's a lot of guilt that comes with getting to go home. Feelings like 'I should have died, not (__),' or 'I got to got to go home, but (__) didn't.' I've been told that fighting in war comes with a forced sense of desensitization for your actions, having to look past your actions to achieve a greater goal. I love this series with all my heart, truly. I won't lie, I cry a shit ton. I cried for A Silent Voice, I cried for the ending of Inuyasha, I cried for Children of The Sea, I cried for Pokemon (unapologetically), I cried for most of Fruits Basket (the manga), I cried for the ending of OHSHC, I cried for Your Lie in April, I cried for the end of Assassination Classroom, I cried for Anohana, I cried for Sailor Moon, I cried for Grave of The Fireflies, and I cried for the ending of Uzimaki for some fucking reason (also the manga.) And of course, I cried for this as well. However, unlike most of the others I cried over, Violet Evergarden had an EMOTIONAL IMPACT on me. Yeah, I cried when Ash Ketchum had to say goodbye to his pet butterfly when I was 8. Yeah, I cried when I watched a young boy starve to death in the subway and then reunite with his sister in spirit form during WWII. But did I change me perminantly as a person? No. Yes, it made me very sad, but it didn't change me. This did. When I first watched VE, it was the day after someone who meant everything to me had passed away. I was grieving very heavily, but since I had never really had to grieve the loss of a loved one I wasn't able to fully comprehend what I was feeling or what to do about it. In a way I was able to relate to Violet. While I was not ignorant of my own emotions, I was certainly not fully understanding of what exactly is was I was feeling. And, of course, I had lost my sense of purpose. This person was in my life every day since I was born, and now they were gone. I had never been prepared emotionally for what to do, and of course I was too stubborn to prepare myself for the inevitably of their death "(death never seems realistic to me, there's no way she could just leave me alone)" VE helped me feel things out during this rough time in my life. I soaked in All the different stories of all the different people like a sponge, and seeing all of this made it easier to understand I think. Of course, it was never really easy, and it still isn't. Death is never an easy thing to wrap your head around. All in all this show was a genuine work of art. A true masterpiece of writing and animation.
The show's theme on love has two aspects when it comes to courage. Gilbert didn't care if Violet loved him back when he told her "I love you." Rejection was of no consequence to Gilbert because his love for her was unconditional. That struck me as so beautiful because his ego was no part of his love. He didn't even believe that he deserved to be with Violet and yet he still said these words. This made me ponder how most confessions of love rely on reciprocation and how rare it is when someone just loves you against all odds of reciprocation. ❤❤❤ Gilbert kmthought he was going to die so that may have overcome any sort of emotional barrier to confessing. The anime perfectly illustrates that it is possible for two people to love each other for reasons other than the desire for status or lineage of marriage and offspring (although those things are the icing on the cake). The show illustrates that love can be purely based on loving the actual person with no promise for the future in sight. Initially the military theme seemd out of place for me as well. But I've come to realize that Violet represents the soldiers of war who are not always seen as heroes but tools of death that were expendable. In Japan it was dishonorable to return from war alive. It was preferable and more honourable to die and not return from the battlefield. Violet isn't just a cyberpunk character but represents surviving soldiers. Soldiers are merely tools to be used and disposed of as far as the rich and powerful are concerned. Most soldiers have no choice but to go to war. Their only purpose in life is to kill. The series does a beautiful job of fleshing out the humanity and depth of these soldiers through Violet Evergarden. Survivor's guilt was very well expressed. The resulting empty shell that Violet appears to be and the show's hope for all soldiers of war to find redemption through love.
Violet Evergarden was the first episodic anime to make me truly emotional and make me stop and think after watching it. P.S- I love your content, it brings back all of the emotions that come with watching these animes for the first time.
I got teary eyes when you're narrating ep 10 even though i just watched it earlier this week. Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece, a masterpiece I'd like to watch with my future family a decade or two from now.
A single note of this anime's soundtrack is able to send shivers through my whole being. I love it, I love Violet, I love Kyoani, I love anime. Edit: I liked this, thank you. You made me cry again you bastard
Violet Evergarden was for me ( since the first time i watched it ) a masterpiece ! i was so engrossed in the story, animation, soundtrack and character development that i could only qualify it as a masterpiece ! which led me to search more about it, then i found out that it originally was a novel and reading that novel gave me a whole other level of understanding to the story as well as closure to not only Violet but the other side characters as well ! so if you loved watching the anime, read the novel !
The show truly is a masterpiece, people who say it’s boring don’t really sit down and pay attention. Yes it’s not fast paced like a lot of anime’s but it’s score, story, and art combine to a truly once in a Generation story and experience. This show is KyoAni’s own love letter to fans. A true masterpiece of our time and my personal favorite show that really opened my view of emotions and the human condition. I always rolled my eyes when people said a show or movie changed their life but truly Violet Evergarden an anime of all things changed my outlook on life and I truly love her and the story for that.
I find that whenever someone says a well written show is "boring" I kinda sense that they are not into slice of life / drama genre let alone heavy drama... which is often proved true when I finally learn what kind of shows they are into :v
It is a bizarre statement though, a fast paced, action packed story can be well written, there's just less focus on the intimate side of things, which is precisely what Violet Evergarden leans into. It's not a matter of being "well written", and more about the type of story being told, in this case, a slow paced, deeply character driven story.
Episode 10 is my absolute favorite out of all media. I am so affected by this single episode, every single mention of it starts making me tear up, and at the same time I can't help but watch it again and again. This episode alone I've probably watched more than 10 times through out the years.
the people who think this show is boring are not the people it was meant for. they are the people who need a fast paced combat sim or another typical harem. This on the other hand, is a genuine masterpiece. It was for me the most beautiful sad story I have ever had the pleasure of watching. This was sad, beautiful, and a complex emotional journey.
Violet Evergarden is genuinely one of my favourite anime, the strangle hold it has on my emotions is immesurable, so much so that just this video alone was enough to get me crying. How anyone could think it's boring is beyond me
I watched this show when I lost my beloved pet, it was the first time I went through the death of someone I loved, and it helped me grieved, it was the perfect timing and I will forever regard it as a masterpiece of a show.
I want to show this video to so many people who were hesitant about getting into Violet Evergarden. Great job unpacking the emotional beauty of Violet.
Violet Evergarden was my first anime in my life. This anime gives me too many sad emotions, because i never cried on games and films, but this anime change everything. I'm was mentally broke, when saw a movie, but i was happy for her ending... Now it's 2023 and i have little hope that's KyoAni will make a season 2... Because they have too many stories from Manga... But this hope very small... Thank you for everything, Violet Evergarden
You described everything perfectly. Thank you so much. Got me emotional. 22:50 I think something else that's poetic about getting new hands is not just that they are not the same hands that killed so many, but they are also a symbol of how losses physical or emotional help us empathize and connect with each other
I feel like Violet Evergarden was very cleansing experience to me. While watching it I cried years from my shoulders. Also its the most beautiful anime Ive ever seen.
If you werent already in tears from the anime itself then i have just the right thing for you. The lead animater to violet evergaden died the day after the anime was finished in the kyoani fire. Rest in peace Yasuhiro Takemoto and everyone else.
Before Violet Evergarden started to enter the anime scene I was going thru depression during mid to late 2017 after the loss of several close family members that occurred around the same time. But thankfully I started to feel better when 2018 was kicking off as I was getting back into movies/games. Few months later I came across the anime after seeing trailers and word of mouth much to my curiosity on this beautiful looking anime that the internet was talking about. I binged the series one night while being in tears as I reached episode 8-13. I never thought an anime series would make me cry so much afterwards but brought so much energy, life and happiness I haven't felt in a while. I quickly became reinvested into anime after ignoring the medium for a year or so during my funk. I begun binging series like Darling in the Franxx, Re:Zero, My Hero Academia, Dragon Maid, Little Witch Academia, and especially Konosuba that whole summer. It also gave me motivation to get back on my feet to start working out, cooking and get my driver's license when I was offered a driving job prior. Violet Evergarden remains one of my all time favorite anime series and I'm more than happy to watch it anytime if my friends or family demands it...
My parents passed away around the same time during the years from 2017 to 2019. At that time I got back into anime in a serious way for many of the same reasons. I revisited some old shows like Evangelion and found some new ones like Violet Evergarden, Girls Last Tour, A Place Further That The Universe, and Darling in the Franxx. I don't think non-anime fans understand just how good some of the storytelling in this particular medium is or how moving they can often be. 😎
First ever event that has changed my life. Though I'm not the type who cries which I am not proud of, I feel discomfort mentally and physically after watching this series. My heart beats faster than ever everything I think about the experiences Violet goes through and all the stories that were told in the series. I have never actually reflected harder than ever and I have never ever been effected so much in my life. This was a really special moment for me to finally understand myself and others better. I have never felt so grateful in my life.
During the time I was watching this show, I had been suffering from self hatred and depression as well as anxiety. Just watching Violet go from a un-empathetic killing tool to a person who sincerely yearns to learn the meaning of love is encouraging and mind-blowing. This show hit me hard and it will forever hold its own place in my heart. 🥲🤗😭
I came to love Violet Evergarden in around 2019-2020 (can't remember exactly) and for me, this show brought me to tears. I like to follow the smallest details in a show/movie and Violet Evergarden for me can be summarized as, "A flower that has to learn to bloom." I find that few shows that detail beauty also hold a lot of philosophy, and it's that philosophy that seemingly many people neglect. Such a simple principal, even just a phrase, effects so much in a person's life. But sometimes, that principal makes someone think, for a long time as well.
Thank you to Kyoto for making such a masterpiece. It’s my favorite work done by them and one of my favorite works overall. Being able to see the movie on release day in theaters was a surreal experience. And thank you to Evan Call for composing my favorite soundtrack of all time.
Violet evergarden is one of the most emotional , depressing and easily one of the best slice of life anime .... Not because it carries the story of violet, but also it does along with many other characters during her journey as an Auto Memorier doll.... The story of Olivia and her father The story of Anne and her mother The story of Aiden, the soldier's last message ...and many more These are really enough to make one full grown adult break to tears......and even in the latest movie where Violet finally unites with Major Gilbert......There the stroy of Yurith just made an entire towel of mine soaked .....
The series was already heavy with plenty of feels but man I can quite happily admit that after the finale movie I was ugly crying like a little bitch. If any "recent" anime deserves to be remembered among the greats then it's this
This one is special to me. The original anime aired in my senior year in high school, and crafted emotion so perfectly and humanly in a way that the viewer can understand. My favorite episode of course being #10, but Kyoani took incredible care for the characters, art, OST, and everything more. I was lucky enough to watch the side story and final movie in theaters. I’m a boy, but I can say that tears were shed in one particular reunion scene. This may be a hot take, but I firmly believe that Violet Evergarden is Kyoani’s best work, and will be remembered as a modern classic.
I came to see Violet Evergarden out of curiosity.NO REGRETS. This series is by far one of the best modern animes ever. The animation, the story, the art.Everything was just perfect. The series, the ova,the final movie;just perfect. And you got to be focused at every detail. The final frame of the movie is at the very end, when Gilbert and Violet made the pinky promise just ❤❤😭😭😭
This man takes months to upload, but when he does it slaps! Beautiful video, encompassing a variety of emotions I never knew I felt when watching it lol
You covered the contextualizing feelings thing very well and now imma just talk a bit about the war things in Violet and how Violet is very much a war story: So Violet not only is a very hallmark case of PTSD but also finds herself completely unadjusted to society as it is. I mean when soldiers go off to war and come back they find that society doesn't want to talk to them and that their experiences are wholly unshareable to anyone besides fellow veterans a few exceptions. I think that in this sense Violet's feelings strongly resemble feelings that are shown in All Quiet on Western Front in which teenagers drafted to WW1 grow up very fast because of their experiences in war and destroys their concept of civilian life. When veterans come back, they can't seem to enjoy the same experiences that they used to because war has insisted such a great sense of nihilism. Violet's case is extreme in which she quite literally rather die than live as a civilian at the beginning of the story. While you say Violet seems to "learn" about feelings, I disagree in this notation that Violet is more learning how to express herself rather than anything else. It is comparable to learning more techniques in art so you can better express the ideas in your head. In war, feelings have to be put aside in preference of the practical and Violet has that instilled within her and she naturally learns to care about Gilbert in war, but war doesn't allow means of expressing that. Even among fellow soldiers doing things like saving each other before the mission is forbidden because it gets people killed. In that sense, all soldiers are treated like machines. The one moment where Violet is learning about feelings is when she tries to commit suicide because of her guilt of killing so many other soldiers in the war. It reminds me strongly of the suicidal intentions of the protagonist in All Quiet on the Western Front where he kills the enemy in hand-to-hand combat and sits there as he dies. He tries to save the enemy thinking similar thoughts to Violet, but the soldier dies anyways. The protagonist's only consultation is that better the other guy than himself. Anyways the feelings that Violet has to learn to express and discover have been already said much better in your video, but I just wanted to recontextualize a bit for Violet's experiences as a soldier. The world in which Violet lives in is also still very much defined by the war as well. The most obvious example being the brother coming home from war completely jaded about having anything of a productive civilian life. Veterans want people to reach out to them even though they know that civilians and veterans are fundamentally different. It took that connection from Violet's friend to actually help him recover a bit and feel included in society. Other examples are how Ann's dad is dead because he fought in the war and Ann is very much alone because of her mother's fatal disease and the war that took her father. The final set of episodes with the terrorism subplot (though a bit iffy with its supernatural antics) really shows how people are psychologically affected by the result of the war and how difficult it is to move on. Dietfried similarly in these episodes has difficulty accepting Violet because of the loss of his brother and his men. War also makes it for some people impossible to move on in the war, like how the island that Gilbert resides on has almost no young men because all of them are dead and that the village has a hard time getting by because of the lack of them to help do work. Similarly in the OVA, Irene and the conductor have to accept that Fugo is gone and that they have to move on. In episodes 10 and 11, Violet has to deal with a dying soldier on the other side and delivers his letter back home to parents who think he is very much alive. Those people will forever be changed by the losses they suffered and they have to learn to love what they have and love that the good parts of the past happened, which was a major theme of the Violet Evergarden movie and the later episodes. Great video. Love your content. If you have time please watch ruclips.net/video/MkKO3Dx2sDc/видео.html&ab_channel=Animarchy its about a veteran's reaction to Violet Evergarden. It really help me contextualize all my thoughts about the anime.
I was already tearing up so much as if I was a waterfall when watching Violet Evergarden, but to watch this video brought everything back, I can't stop crying xd
I've finished this anime yesterday and it's a miracle one of my favourite anime "reviewers" (im trully sorry for my lack of vocabulary) have made a video about it, especially because i loved this anime, it trully struck me how detailed this anime and how well thought out it is especially how weather and generall arounding creates amazing atmosphere with candles, flowers and sounds of birds.
FAT TEARS GOING DOWN MY CHEEKS RN TYSM FOR COVERING VIOLET EVERGARDEN I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD CRY AGAIN AFTER WATCHING THE SERIES BUT THIS VIDEO PROVED ME WRONG AHHH
Violet Evergarden is my absolute favorite anime and seeing a video like that, even very recent, enclosing all the emotions it gave me is beautiful. Thank you so much
Man i love your content so much. The way you phrase things just brings the best out of anything you're saying, for example "Kyoto animations pieces of art". Not anime, not shows, pieces of art. Amazing video.
Legit, I still vividly remember the whole episode and when I start thinking about my heart starts to ache same goes with the last movie of Violet Evergarden, when the two friends where talking to each other on the phone. Ugh the pain
The music is gorgeous. The animation is amazing. And the foley work ... The sis of leather pulled away from her metal fingers. The clickity-clack of her metal fingers on the typewriter keys. Every. Single. Sound... Definite and purposeful. If they weren't there, you might not miss them, but the fact that they are just absolutely elevates this masterful piece of work. But, episode 10... As a father, this just gutted me. At age 50...I ugly sobbed. So very beautiful. It is one of the best pieces of visual storytelling I've ever seen. Live-action or animated.
I watched this anime while going through the worst breakup of my life so far. So everything that happened, I took in and analyzed everything. I was crying in almost every episode as I could sadly relate to everything but also because I'm an empath. I was overwhelmed and fell in love with the stories and the characters. I couldn't stop crying especially when she said she was burning. I couldn't relate more to that and it broke me. Violet Evergarden changed me as a person and helped me get out of the relationship I was in. It made me realize that the relationship I was in, wasn't love. It was just control.
First, I wanna appreciate you, Kevin, for bringing insight and your introspective view on Violet Evergarden. Violet Evergarden, to me, is more than a masterpiece but only because it shares Violet's journey on unveiling the hidden emotions that she is not aware of. I think the core messages behind this show are something that people could potentially relate to, especially with all the things that are going on in the world today. It's a mess. But I'm glad in a way that Violet is able to profound a sense of resonation through this anime. And of course, we can't forget to ever acknowledge KyoAni for bringing such a wonderful film to the world.
Violet Evergarden is definitely a show where if more people watched it, they could learn to understand and empathise with others better. Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it!
I'm a person who is crying early and after watching violet evergarden in chronological order the last movie made me cry, Sasha and Rengoku made me almost tear up
I went into Violet EverGarden being a person that really only enjoyed fantasy and adventure anime but after watching each episode and crying my eyes out I feel in love with this anime it’s to me one of the only anime of this gents that truly hit my heart I have never cried so much watching an anime until I watched this show
Tje show was amazing at stoey telling. Let me explain what i mean, I just watched the show recently and the way Hodgkins tries to protect Violet from the truth is heartwarming, like the way when violet asks about the major in Ep.1 he stuffs his hand in his pocket and you can tell hes trying to think of a lie to save this girls life.
I saw the last movie today it was the ending we though was never going to happen but when it happened i felt sad and happy that gilbert was alive and sad that the world only remembers her as a stamp
The scene, shown at 22:59 is one of my favourites in the entire series. His line about not being able to erase the past but that the future will not go away either is important in moving forward in life.
The symbolism with her hands, former representing a killer, the latter, albeit robotic, more humane and sympathetic, the very hands she couldn't kill herself with because they aren't meant to kill. They are meant to help atone herself, forgive herself and move on. I didn't notice this, as I didn't other things you broke down for us. For that, thank you! Awesome video.
I'm so incredibly grateful that someone else was able to put into words the message of the episode with Oscar Webster. As heart-wrenching as the story of that episode is, the tragedy isn't the part that should be the forefront, and it's the music that tells this to the audience. The composer could've gone with moody, melodramatic tones to convey the sadness of Oscar and the pain of his loss, but he DIDN'T. Evan Call went with soaring, hopeful, beautiful tones, with layered strings and winds meant to *celebrate* his time with Olivia and the beauty of those moments. Instead of pain and regret, we get a message of love and gratitude, and it's backed by some of the most breathtaking animation made to date. There's so many episodes of this series that cut straight to the heart and hit nerves, but that episode will never cease to be the highlight of the story to me.
Thanks for making this video this is what made me want to watch Violet evergarden and it is now my favorite show. When I watched this video two things went through my head: one that I would cry while watching it : and two that it is a show that I would really like, both are true. This is one of the most different shows I have ever seen, and it touches my heart. I love Violet evergarden.
violet evergarden is a very solide written story, in every episode , we got introduced to a new character , that character ends up overcoming his problem or weakness with the help of violet while this last one is learning something new in life, and then the author makes her makes go through the sam stuff! such a great way to display a character developpement the way they started the movie though .....these people know their audience very well
Violet Evergarden is my favorite anime. It made me cry multiple times (witch might I add- I don't usually cry for fictional and often factual media-) and I just feel like it is perfect.
Your channel is an awesome channel. I love how you can explain animes in so much detail. The recap of A Silent Voice made me so emotional and made me think so much. Love your channel man, keep it up.
Took me some days to watch this video because I wanted to re-watch the show myself before watching your perspective. And it's exactly as you said, re-watching it really makes you appreciate the quality of this anime even more. It's such a deep anime with so many lessons, growth from beginning til the end and I love Violet character development so very much. Really enjoyed your video once again and I hope it changes the mind of those that for some reason didn't like this masterpiece the first time. Take care Kevin!
I love your Videos and here is why: it’s the same thing I commented under the “A silent voice“ video. I share a lot of your positions and opinions about this show and a silent voice. In my dreams I think about a machine, that puts thoughts into words and pictures. YOU DO THAT. You translate lots of my thoughts in words and I can’t thank you enough for that. It’s a magical feeling that I can’t describe. I think “you fulfill my thoughts/dreams into reality” really suits it. Now to Violet evergarden. After your Name taught me how to cry and a hint of what Love might be (a connection between people “Musubi”), I’ve watched Violet evergarden. “Love” was unknown for me and something that is really really rare. My parents never said it to me with a family meaning and I’ve never heard it from other people like my back then first ex, so it became something I’m really careful with. I still think, that “I love you” still means more than EVERY other sentence I could think of. Violet understands that this sentence means alot but she doesn’t know what. And I felt that. The words do mean alot, but what is love. This show gave me the foundation for the idea of what love can be and this, changed my life once again. Not only did this show change my life, it also hurt me many times. I could identify with Violet and due to that, the whole show hit different. I cried my eyes out while being happy about it. I learned and understood The soundtrack is one of the best I’ve heard in Anime. It fits perfect and is beautiful. The animation is nothing I have to further mention. This show is cemented in my Top 5 shows of ALL time(not only anime). I sadly still haven’t watched the Second movie because in Germany it only aired once in german because of Corona(I don’t want to see it in German at all). I’ve even preordered 2 of the first 40 tickets sold in Germany but that one was canceled bc. of Covid. My first tattoo (soon) will be Violets hand doing a hand sign by gojo and the Musubi Band by Your Name. Pls take all time you need for your videos they are Perfect like this. I’ve shared this video to 4 other friends that asked me what I’m so hyped about, they loved it.
I’m very glad that my videos have that sort of impact for you. One of the goals for me when making videos is exactly this, to give people a deeper appreciation/understanding of their favourite shows or maybe something they didn’t like. It’s good to know that my effort is paying off, spending weeks to make this vid! :)
I’m glad it’s long! your videoed always tend to brighten my mood and i’m grateful, Excited for your next uploads!!
Man you should Watch the latest Violet evergarden movie its super good
@@gent4306 I have seen it and yes it is amazing!
You mind talking about the Ova and the Movies
what do I do my friend wont watch this vid and says its like barney
The tears 😭🥺
Honestly, one of the few series I can consider a complete masterpiece.
The movie is all the amazing parts of the series packed into a great ending!
@@furjaden8553 I kinda felt the same
Episode 10 freaking broke me.
Ouch
It’s a sad thing when someone passes away, and those left behind always experience some kind of grief, and even then, some people never stop grieving. I’m sorry you had to go through that pain. It probably feels suffocating. I hope you’re pain eases❤️
My dad passed away from a third cancer too, i have a thought for you, and i hope you are ok
Brooo same, my dad died from cancer too and whenever I watch this episode I can’t help but cry out all the pain I repressed
Bro sometimes reality is cruel
Remember your father is always with you
Violet evergarden is probably one of the most beautiful story for me. It just explores normal human emotions everyone has so brilliantly and beautifully.
I agree. KyotoAni is one of many studios to fill the audience with so many bright emotions
Without a doubt, Violet's journey is definitely one that I find so beautiful due to the in-depth perspective that KyoAni takes into describing the details of unveiling the hidden emotions.
It's legitimately one of my favorites because I relate to it just a bit
>Violet Evergarden video
>"Ah Shit, Here We Go Again"
>cliks anyways
>proceeds to cry uncontrollably once more
27:09 I always loved one more thing about this scene that you didn't mention.
KyoAni puts more emotion in a single animated eye than Hollywood can pack into a 9 film franchise.
They also made a silent voice, no wonder this anime made me feel so many emotions at once
@@Beatjoy5511 clannad too
I just want to say, that this is the first anime in all my life that made me _cry_ in _each_ episode.
Everyone is different though, you can dislike this show while other people can like it 🤷♀️
I would still advise you to watch the entire anime before making an opinion on it though.
You should check out a place further than the universe ig you liked violet evergarden, it also made me cry almost every episode
I cried every episode too.. I connected to Violet so much, idk why cuz we’re not that similar. I guess I had so much empathy for her. Also I was on my period at the time so I was extra emotional 😭
Every episode and movie has left me bawling my eyes out
This show is truly a masterpiece in my eyes. It legitimately changed my life and help me get over some feelings regarding a relatives passing that I thought I had gotten over when in actuality I
just kept those feelings bottled up inside.
@@DJNightcoreHD Sorry to hear that man, hope you're doing well. He's probably looking down at you and proud of you

I had never been prepared emotionally for what to do, and of course I was too stubborn to prepare myself for the inevitably of their death "(death never seems realistic to me, there's no way she could just leave me alone)"
VE helped me feel things out during this rough time in my life.
Commenting right after opening the video. Opening with “I love you”, even knowing the show is a gigachad move.
This video made me cry twice. What the fuck man.
You're welcome.
It didn't "make" me cry
I was crying during the whole showtime, sometimes less sometimes more
Btw I hope you had a great year, happy Christmas:)
2:02 Who said this show is boring huh?! LET ME SHOW YOU THESE HANDS
I got teary eyes when you're narrating ep 10 even though i just watched it earlier this week. Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece, a masterpiece I'd like to watch with my future family a decade or two from now.
Fun fact: today is violet’ English VA’s birthday (Erika harlacher)
Ohh right she voices her too !
A single note of this anime's soundtrack is able to send shivers through my whole being. I love it, I love Violet, I love Kyoani, I love anime.

@@KevinNyaa You sure did and I hatelove you for it.
Let me guess.....naruto 🤣
How pretentious and snobbish!
It is a bizarre statement though, a fast paced, action packed story can be well written, there's just less focus on the intimate side of things, which is precisely what Violet Evergarden leans into. It's not a matter of being "well written", and more about the type of story being told, in this case, a slow paced, deeply character driven story.
@@markopusic8258 i don't know I never found any action anime to be that much well written beside one piece ( it's decent)
Episode 10 is my absolute favorite out of all media. I am so affected by this single episode, every single mention of it starts making me tear up, and at the same time I can't help but watch it again and again. This episode alone I've probably watched more than 10 times through out the years.
The episode with the mother that writes letters for every birthday of her daughter made me cry. How strong can a love be.
I cried on each episode. What a beautiful piece of art, in terms of animation and story.
the people who think this show is boring are not the people it was meant for. they are the people who need a fast paced combat sim or another typical harem. This on the other hand, is a genuine masterpiece. It was for me the most beautiful sad story I have ever had the pleasure of watching. This was sad, beautiful, and a complex emotional journey.
That 10th episode broke me ... I was balling my eyes out ... and that very rarely happens. The whole show is such a masterpiece.
22:50 I think something else that's poetic about getting new hands is not just that they are not the same hands that killed so many, but they are also a symbol of how losses physical or emotional help us empathize and connect with each other
I personally found it one of the most profound animes i have seen and you're video gave me even more appreciation for it.
Boy am I strong person for not crying after squeezing out every contents of Violet Evergarden
The story of Olivia and her father
The story of Anne and her mother
The story of Aiden, the soldier's last message ...and many more
These are really enough to make one full grown adult break to tears......and even in the latest movie where Violet finally unites with Major Gilbert......There the stroy of Yurith just made an entire towel of mine soaked .....
Please share everyone views....that whose story in Violet evergarden do you find most depressing
Thank you so much, glad my hard work is worth it! :)
You covered the contextualizing feelings thing very well and now imma just talk a bit about the war things in Violet and how Violet is very much a war story:
So Violet not only is a very hallmark case of PTSD but also finds herself completely unadjusted to society as it is.
That’s what they feel like to me! Not shows or products but experiences that leave a lasting impact. :)
When I hear the word “ I love you “, I can feel the pain coming in
You know the series is goated if the reviews about it make you cry
just seeing the scenes of the 10th episode always makes me tear up....
More people need to watch this, the series was truly life changing for me, I found it all to be very relatable
I'm a person who is crying early and after watching violet evergarden in chronological order the last movie made me cry, Sasha and Rengoku made me almost tear up
I went into Violet EverGarden being a person that really only enjoyed fantasy and adventure anime but after watching each episode and crying my eyes out I feel in love with this anime it’s to me one of the only anime of this gents that truly hit my heart I have never cried so much watching an anime until I watched this show
This will forever be my number one recommend anime, if I could watch it all over again for the first time I would 🩷
bro violet evergarden was so emotional i cried multiple times and that says something because i'm not an easy crier
Violet evergarden is one of most beautiful story i ever seen it just really good
I really want to see Violet Evergarden, so to be free of any major spoilers I've already put the video on a playlist to see after. Can wait 💜💜💜
The scene, shown at 22:59 is one of my favourites in the entire series. His line about not being able to erase the past but that the future will not go away either is important in moving forward in life.
So amazing that someone actually talked about Clannad, especially the after story. That has to be my favorite show of all time.
I like how you analyze art for your own use. Makes you quite inspirational to me.
Also tbh, I love you is an incredibly contextual phrase, that can mean so many different things
Nice, Violet Evergarden is one of my favorite animes that I've watched in a while, this and the movies are really a masterpiece.
I love how you describe every meaning of the expression and the words toward the episode
Great job man
I've waited for this video for sooo long Thanks alot.
I will enjoy this masterpiece later tonight when i have more time.
When Ann said "she's not doll, she's human," I thought that was such a significant illustration of Violet's development.
Man I shouldn't have watched this in the train, getting reminded of episode 10 just made me wanna cry my eyes out
Man I still can't even watch a review of this show without crying oml.
There's so many episodes of this series that cut straight to the heart and hit nerves, but that episode will never cease to be the highlight of the story to me.
violet evergarden is easily in my top 5 and is definitely one of the best animes ever made
I love listening to your videos when I'm just relaxing! super calming voice with a great analysis. Keep up the good work!
Violet Evergarden will always be in my top 5
Wow this is your longest video if I'm not wrong, and definitely one of your bests, thanks a lot for making this.
Wasn't planning on making it +30mins but here we are! Thanks as well. :)
Violet Evergarden is stunning, absolutely beautiful. A true masterpiece.
I like this channel, because you can see people who dig to the content and message of the story/plot of the anime.
thanks for making me cry
The way you mentioned the plot of the Tear Jerking 10th episode, its similar to a book called "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness.
How is it that you keep dropping absolute bangers!
violet evergarden is a very solide written story, in every episode , we got introduced to a new character , that character ends up overcoming his problem or weakness with the help of violet while this last one is learning something new in life, and then the author makes her makes go through the sam stuff! such a great way to display a character developpement
the way they started the movie though .....these people know their audience very well
Violet Evergarden is my favorite anime. It made me cry multiple times (witch might I add- I don't usually cry for fictional and often factual media-) and I just feel like it is perfect.
A true Masterpiece for our time.
If this Show isn't Art, I don't know what is.
I say this as a Bachelor of the Arts myself mind you.
Thank you so much.
As the anime, this video itself is too beautifully made. Man, you deserve more !! Hope you keep going and make these videos !
Thank you for covering both of my favorite anime, A silent voice and now violet evergarden.
You're doing great work, keep it up!
Thanks so much, I appreciate the comment.
I learned and understood
The soundtrack is one of the best I’ve heard in Anime.
