I deeply relate to Violet, not because of her backstory as a tool of war, but because of her social struggles. When Violet survives and is given a new chance at life, she only knows how to interact with people in a direct and logical way, which makes a lot of the people around her feel that she's cold, rude, unfeeling, etc., when in actuality she has incredible emotional depth but doesn't know how to express it. I relate to this because I'm on the spectrum, and I've had a similar experience of having my logical and matter-of-fact way of communicating misunderstood as coldness, lacking empathy, even creepiness. Violet's journey of overcoming these challenges and learning to relate to others on an emotional level is one I'm still on myself, and probably always will be.

This show is a slow burn. An emotionless person learns what "I love you", AND overall emotions, mean through several episodes. When she feels, you feel it too. Of course the OST is just BEAUTIFUL. And visuals? well just look at it. Exeptional anime. Ive never before or since cried so hard that I had to stop watching.

This is one of those series I’m very drawn towards but I just can’t bring myself to take the plunge knowing it’s going to cut to my core one way or another. That happened after I read Goodnight Punpun for the first time and I get that same feeling of awe and dread whenever I hear about Violet Evergarden

@@ProfessorViral truth is I did watch one episode in particular: episode 10. I was floored. I thought of that not long after my grandma died and I felt like I was stabbed. I’m not planning on having children but the thought of being in that position as a parent enraptures and terrifies me. So despite a quick glance into the mirror I was shocked at what I saw, but I’m still drawn towards it.

I don't usually comment on videos, but this video personally hit really hard for me. Over the past few years my mental health has deteriorated and I struggle to express my emotions because of the fear of being a burden upon the people I love, and repressing my emotions has caused me to barely feel any at all. Sometimes I wonder if I'm truly a normal human being because I feel so isolated and different from other people. I related to a lot of the things you said in your video on a personal level. Anyway I'm sorry for the long comment but I really really like this video, and I'm glad you make these videos. It hurts me to have things to say, things I believe will help people connect with the material, but can't because of expectations and posturing. It's a very good thing to include your story and I've gotten a lot from you sharing yours :)

I like this story because it reminds me of being raised assigned wrongly male to not feel and be a warrior soldier someday. I have the same problems as her and now I am living as a woman it is hard for me to adjust after so long of repressing who I really was as a female in my mind. I have wartime like P.T.S.D. Terribly nightmares of things done to me or I had to do to survive as a male. Like me, she was not allowed to be a girl and grow into a woman though her body unlike mine is only female. My body tries to be female and I had breasts and hips like a girl at puberty. I was stuck in between two worlds. And now I am learning to love as and be a woman. I still have trouble showing emotion though I am so like a female. I feel overwhelmed as I never learn to be a female tell I was much older. I wanted to be a US Navy seal. Being Transgender and my heart-giving me problems kept me from doing so. I hung with Hell Angels bikers and was on the streets in the middle of gunfights and a lot of trouble like it was a war in the 1990s on our streets going on. I was always ending up in the middle of bad things happening in my life to survive as a male. Used and abused to death. And yet I survive all that. Now I am a woman everyone thinks I am innocent and naive. Little do they know what I have been through that was like hell. Everyone treats me like some kind of angel to be protected. Yet I was once the badass male you did not mess with. It is very confusing for me at times. I am this whole other person. A loving and caring female I always really was now. Those memories of the past of me living as a warrior male seem like someone else's and not mine. I have been dead and came back many times. Been stabbed and shot. Burned badly and broken. Yet here I am still alive. Only hope kept me going I would not give up on of myself someday being the woman I was inside my mind.

  • @Swat_Dennis
    @Swat_Dennis 2 года назад +3

I joined the Violet Evergarden Subreddit writing thing something, I don't know how to say what it was... You sent in an application for a letter and you had to write a letter for someone else.
And now? I have been writing to people, I always wanted to talk to again, but never knew how to approach them again.
Maybe you can try it out as well, the first ever written letter by Violet was only "I am happy you are still here" and it was the meaning that's important in a letter.
I don't want to step out of line here, but why not write a letter to your father, your family, your friends... Just saying "I love you, I admire you, even if I know I might show those emotions in a different way"? It's a small thing but it's impact is massive, a letter has a special meaning these days and you can take as long as you want.
And really, I felt the same in your video as when I was watching Violet, just like you were saying in the video.
I feel shit for hearing your story, I feel pity, but hearing your story also gives me a sense of pride, because you do something you love right now, but also... Well, I was mentally abused by my father for the first 16 years of my life, knowing now that I can feel love, the love for anime, my job, but also the love for the people around me.
And if all else, I wish to be your friend, just by watching your video's, I admire you, if you were a really shy and inward facing kid in your youth? I wish I could start a youtube channel and talk so confidently to the "internet". I never thought you had this more... Sensitive? Side to you if you never started talking about it, so... Thank you for being so open about yourself!

I was born with feelings, and they were worn bare over the course of of many years. And my ex managed to get the final stroke. My emotions were dead and forgotten. Other than a insatiable, numb void
The most recent chapter of my life has been about creating a new person, because the person I was has been lost to time. Learning emotions is hard.
My missed step is that I learned about fear, pain, loss, hopelessness, and loneliness before I even learned about happiness. Thought that smiles were stupid. It almost killed me.
Then I watched Violet Evergarden. It helped so much. I felt so close to her. Living with the scars of Military service sucks. And I learned so much as she got better. Now I am human. It is time to live.

I've never quite been the quiet kid more so the weird kid. I've grown into becoming the queit young adult with a goofy optimistic side. I've never been all too good with being able to read people emotions or to articulate what they feel in real life. I've always been clumsy with words too. Words always been one of my biggest weaknesses. Yet plenty of people, mainly far older adults (ranging from 40 to 60), have come to me to just talk and vent. While a few teenagers have come to me, one a complete stranger, to help calm them down and to talk them out of their suicidal thoughts. (I know I've saved 3 different people lives by just listening and offering kindness.) They've always tell me they feel a bit better after talking to me. This is one of the reasons why I personally relate to Violet and why I fell in love with this story.

I understand that comenting in a video like this more than a year after it's publication is a shout into the void. However I find myself compelled to write this nonetheless. To say I stubled into this video just when I needed it is an understatement. Lately I find myself condemning my own emotionality. I have always been rational above anything and yet that made me feel unfit to be human. So I tought myself how to be emotional by repetition. As silly as that may sound, it worked. But after years of heartbreaks I feel as if maybe I made a mistake.
Seeing this video however made me remember why I want to be emotional. The desire to be human is intrinsically human, no matter the journey or its method. Thank you for reminding me that we are not alone, we are all human even if our own hands may feel cold and mechanical at times.

You can never think your way through an emotion, but when they themselves confuse us it can be troubling…
It’s a leap of faith, you can’t live life avoiding negative things or else you’re living only half a life my friend.
To love another, you must love yourself or else how else could you know what that means.
How do you see yourself as a human being; for me personally I remember feeling a massive detachment from my body, and over time I realized that I can channel that to create.
While I create my emotion come back to be and I can teach myself how to feel again.
But what I do, what to do???
Create the world you want to see, be the best person you could ever be, to be the change you want to see in the world.
In a world of chaos, the only point of control and obligation is to yourself at its simplest, however it is your duty to the world you barrow form from to be the best person you think you could ever be.
Reach for a dream that’s so big it’s a pipe dream, but I’m doing that anything you create is by nature a small aspect of that reality.
And little by little and over time you might see a world worth living and fighting for.
    I believe im you

You have to GO BEYOND, and that means to go beyond what you think you can do even if just one step at a time, and by doing that you be yourself but PLUS ULTRA.
To do the impossible, you have to see the invisible. That means to picture it in your mind, row row fight the power.
Break the roof and you’ll see the truth, touch the untouchable, (make your dreams a reality) and break the unbreakable… ALL RAW LIMITS, my guy you’ve got everything you need with you, but you yourself have to see these tools you have for the value of your life.
Rap is a man’s soul, so I ask you.

Violet Evergarden is beloved in military circles, but bringing it up in casual conversation is almost taboo, because the story hits uncomfortably close to home. The idea of returning home and remembering how to be human is one that a lot of us identify with on a personal level. We see ourselves in Violet, and it hurts. There's healing in the pain, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant to experience. This might be the best show I've never once been tempted to revisit.

Nothing "happened" to me but I am autistic and possibly alexithymic. Anything someone would normally "feel", I mostly just think. I have plenty of words to describe these concepts in length, and even have a special interest in psychology, but I truly cannot grasp the instincts of human connection that create webs of people who know and love each other. How people stay securely in those webs without enormous levels of mental effort. I swear it's like I'm missing something so obvious and tangible, like a bone or an organ. There is no underlining reason to be with someone other than it makes you both happy
It might not make you happy all the time but thats with everything, nothing is a constant flow of one thing.
Any other reason to give is personal
But at the end of the day it’s just you know you are better person with that person. But I feel these steps work back to back
    You can’t skip steps
So if you can’t find that happiness without them then you will struggle to see it with the white noise that is love
You must be able to blindly notice what these feelings are before you can do these things fully and have it work.
You can never skip steps . . Always work on baby steps . . If something feels like it’s too much . . Then it is and you need to take a step back and look for what you missed
    You will always miss something

I sat alone in a house for a year, content with mere existence and nothing more untill this show and my best friend picked me up and showed me that I had done plenty. And that I wasn't alone.
I'm still learning to be a good writer and I enjoy, for the lack if a better phrase, picking things apart much like you do in this video. I hope I can do as well as you have done on this video one day. But untill the thank you.

Love is a strange word. How we apply it is vauge. Do I love my family or do I just tolerate them? What is it like to love a job? What type of content do I love to watch? Do I even love myself? Its agonizing to even try to find an answer to these questions.

Also could you take a look at 3d kanojo real girl the dub is just called real girl, I found it to have some similar things to your lie in April but it's still different

Look man I got stuck on understanding people and why they work the way they do, what I found is that you can’t structure it and you can’t break it down to a complete structure. It’s random and difficult to make sense it’s something you have to just live and learning to understand why someone did those actions in the moment because those decisions are a conglomeration of years and years of choices and outcomes and you can never understand them fully. So stop searching for a logical method as when it comes to emotion logic is swept aside and feeling is the only path to understand why or how someone came to that decision.

id somewhat argue that emotions actually can have some kind of structur: emotions are chain recations(which i would classify as "structures")->sometimes as simple as having missed your train and then being grumpy about it. it gets complex if you factor in the persons personality and everything else tho->its better to then focus on that situation/scenario alone rather than find a formular that works on everyone / maybe dont even think about the emotions/feelings at all and focus on the situation that caused it (for both pos and neg emotions).
(its also good to keep in mind that some things have a bigger impact on one than the other/everyone takes things differently.)
i do agree that its best to not get hung up with things that dont make sense however long you think about it, regardless of what topic. (unless its literally your job or something)

    • @ZoulStar
      @ZoulStar 2 года назад +2

@@bruhmoment2electricboogalo951 but to see it as a structure, as a script is not good. It’s one way to be able to visualize and recognize those patterns, but it’s not the same nor will it prepare you for the actuality of it.

@@ZoulStar oh ok, makes sense too :0
i personally am already fine with said pattern/i havent had any problems with those somehow. i usually really just see things as simply "this person is sad because this happened: what will you do to help them (if you want to)?"->classic problem solver mentality as far as im aware.
but then again, i usually always do things that way, so i might have just skipped anything bigger, where that thought process cant apply/couldnt even recocnize it.
(sorry if im missinterpretings stuff (again))

    • @ZoulStar
      @ZoulStar 2 года назад +2

@@bruhmoment2electricboogalo951 Don’t worry about it, it’s fine. You’re not misinterpreting anything.
Recognizing/being aware of the situation is always great. Dealing with issues is the matter of the problem, and it’s not a matter of solving, where is that you’re trying to seek out resolutions in the moment to help you get past it and continue on. When it comes to these sorts of things, for me, I tend to focus in on myself to realize my capabilities; my strengths and weaknesses. If the problem is outside my expertise, I ask for help from others that I know I can rely on, to give me advice. Sometimes it’s a matter of perspective and you need others to remind you of who you are, or what’s important and trust in yourself to make the right decision in the end. It’s your life after all. No one else’s to choose for.

Your description of your personal experience of interpersonal relationships makes me wonder if you'd benefit from seeking a diagnosis of autism. If you indeed have it then your experience of emotions and people is actually normal and healthy. Though given that you're in the USA it might be difficult (see: incomprehensibly expensive) to get a diagnosis. If you can try to find an autistic community near you, you might find a place where you actually get and connect with the people there.

No one enjoys that about the anime, but it's taking a somewhat historical stance, and never once sexualizes or even implies something of the sort between those characters with large age gaps. Again, I don't enjoy it. But a lot of anime characters are around 14 and receive a lot creepier treatment
