    I flew over the Searing Gorge and Burning Steppes many times when leveling my dwarf hunter up. I used to be intimidated seeing these giant flame spiders, black dragons, fire elementals and Blackrock orcs all with skull levels. Not only that but when I finally set foot in the Steppes at I think 51, it was just awesome to go through the gate from Redridge into this burning, smoldering wasteland.

      I had similar feelings while passing on the gryphon between Stormwind and Ironforge. Those were epic times, the young age combined with the lack of other mmo games experience made these feelings so powerful. :)

    Blackrock Mountain was, quite literally, the centre of the gaming world back in 2005/06. It was a time where everybody was playing it. All my friends were. If you didn’t, you were in the outgroup. People talking about WoW, all the time. The excitement, the hype, the huge content. The demented fights with the Horde in the mountain early in the evening when raids gathered. The dungeons and raids themselves. There was a unique feeling of epicness to it, a sense of sharing a common adventure mixed with a degree of novelty that in my view, no further iteration of WoW nor other games have been able to recreate ever since. Perhaps my fondest memories as a gamer.
    If there is one moment I wish nostalgia could have captured, it would be IF crowded with people shortly before raid time, then all these people flying to Searing Gorge in squadrons before making their way to Blackrock Mountain across a handful of violent skirmishes. Good times.

    • @Meisio
      @Meisio  6 лет назад +6

      Wow, nicely described :) I liked the 'violent skirmishes' term especially. :D
      I was a Method member back then, we gathered there at the MC point, not in IF. Very few where fool enough to enter a skirmish with Method :D I was extremely OP with my gear and most of the time I was killing with 1 shot or in few seconds any player. I 'liked' rogues mostly who were camping the door from Searing Gorge. We were sitting there before the raid sometimes, to help people in need. :)

      Some of the best ganking happened here, forget hillsbrad! Although, that was fun too... this zone was near perfect.
      Not to mention the deathrun (especially when wiping in mc/bwl), at least you got to leap off a cliff at the start of the way back.
      I had so much PVP footage in the searing gorge/brm/burning steppes, and tons of other places like tyrs hand, stv, and on and on... but sadly its almost all gone, thanks to google video shutting down.

      @retrocny5625 5 лет назад +3

      @@Shadowfynx I agree whole hearted. And as a horde player, I vividly remember all the gigangic battles in blackrock mountain on a pvp server. Tuesday after a reset, 8pm server time... and there'd be massive 40v40 battles. Trying to get down to the molten core zone in BEFORE they added the NPC to teleport you there. Where you had to jump through the tiny window to zone in through an invisible portal...oh and because blizzard zone ins were buggy sometimes, there were occasions where you'd just fall straight through and die in the lava if you couldn't swim back around to the little ramp on the side fast enough. I started playing the day after thanksgiving 2004(so yes, that means I also remember when you had to split the raid up into various groups because the only way to get into molten core was at the end of the BRD dungeon). I remember all of vanilla very fondly as I played non-stop all the way through vanilla's cycle. I remember on my rogue solo'ing the bar room in BRD to get the Barman Shanker since pre weapon normalization, the slow swing speed was BIS pre raid. Usually though, all the rogues in the guild would stealth-run together to make the kill quicker and we'd keep running it over and over until everyone got their weapon.
      I remember doing the onyxia attunement. Not once, but twice. As I played an alliance character first, and then switched to horde sometime before patch 1.5. I remember the BWL patch vividly and wiping non-stop on razorgore because no one had seen anything like the mechanics where you need to control him to deal with the eggs placed around the room. There was no information to learn from if you were a "cutting edge" guild in those days. You just wiped, and wiped... and through trial & error you'd finally figure it out. The wall that was Vael. If you didn't have the dps, you didn't kill the boss...you just had to go back and keep gearing in MC for another week. I remember having to get 40 people the cloak to make you immune to nefarian's shadow flame before you could even attempt him. I remember having to figure out the color combos on his phase 1 adds, and how they changed each reset. That was fun. Competing guilds didn't share their strategies. People weren't posting their videos on youtube or putting guides on wowhead. The only thing we had in those days were thottbot and pvp videos on youtube in 320p.
      I remember the AQ war effort. Farming the mobs in silithus in the big hives for hours and days on end. Farming mats for all the various turn-ins. I was there when the gong ran. I remember the introduction of ZG. As a rogue, renataki's charm of trickery was a huge deal because thistle tea was nerfed to restore 60 energy instead of 100 I believe around the same time. I remember the naxx patch and the scourge event. All of it. I remember my guild breaking apart on 4 horsemen because it was too difficult for us with the number of tanks we had AND people felt progress in the raid would be rendered obsolete with BC coming out in the near future anyway. I could go on and on and on. Vanilla WoW, in short, produced some of the fondest memories I'll ever have as a gamer. I'm 33. I've been a gamer since I was 3 or 4 years old on an NES until today. It was really a special time and yes, it was that good. It set the standard.

    It’s crazy how it seems most of our experiences were sculpted by this specific over look while flying to stormwind or iron forge. One of my most nostalgic and moments filled with bliss I have is that music or that thought / flashback of when I Was younger and finished school for the week and my brother and I would get to play and we always thought one day we will get to the burning steppes and we will fight those. And now we think , we will make it to Friday it will be ok. Sad we didn’t know how lucky we were when that young

      Yes it was, I remember being a newbie and sitting there running back and forth from redridge because the moment you even got remotely close the ?? elementals would come charging at you. Was fun having a small group of us sit there and chat about what is in that zone. The mystery of the game was what was appealing about vanilla. I doubt that me even making a toon when classic comes out will fix that.

    Although I'm leveling at a slow, easy pace, I'm excited to reach the Burning Steppes on my little gnome mage, so she can see the statue of Anduin Lothar for herself, and experience her first run into Blackrock Mountain., to cross the bridge, see the massive doors, and navigate into the depths of Shadowforge City, the Blackrock Spire, the Molten Core, and Nefarian's Lair for herself.

      i think some motion from player-perspective is very helpful for keeping viewer interest engaged. have you looked at how walk vs run-speed is for this?
      I guess if you have unlimited time to level classes, you could use priest slow-fall also for some unique in-motion perspective :)

    • @Meisio
      @Meisio  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the feedback. :)
      Walking... just walking... running is too much, I don't have time to show anything. What's left to experiment is to shoot at 60 fps and drop at 30 fps to create that slow motion effect.
      But NPC movement will be funny, also... I need a better battle station which can do these things... to record and to play WoW at ultra settings at 60 fps in 4K... that's too much for my computer at the moment. Maybe from spring... ;)
      About priest slow fall... if I don't have flying it will be a pain to re-shoot the same thing in case I got things wrong :D

    i miss when wow wass you and the enemy, not you and gathering the entire map with all your characters and clearing them like a chinese mmo. Dont get me wrong, we have played classic wow now and i see many bad things about it, but the concept was supreme. The fact that the world was so big and they did not have to clog everything up in a tight space made it feel as if you was adventuring around the world. Now it feels like you walk 2 steps and the map is over, or every step you take there is an enemy, you are no afraid of him for he it is but instead that he will take your time dismounting you, and now you are 10 scounds less afficiant.
