  • TISSOT has released a modern re-issue of one of its most iconic watches - the Sideral. While the original Sideral was an innovative timepiece when first launched in 1969, this new re-issue uses modern, high-tech materials and TISSOT's Powermatic 80 movement.

    I think Tissot has another win. I especially like that they didn't punk out with the water resistance... 300m makes this watch the perfect for summer vacation. I do think it would have been better without the see through case back. It's not like the Powermatic 80 is much to look at anyway, and they could have shaved a bit off the thickness while adding to the durability.

    I have this watch and love it, for what it is.
    Super value for money. I’m excited to see the bigger brands using this kind of material more often.
    The strap is a bit hard to close, but I use my index and thumb, on both the outer and inner side of the strap, to prevent damaging the skin. It’s pretty easy after you get used to it.
    Cheers

    Love the look of this watch. I'm a big fan of tissot, I have the prx and a white dial sea star chronograph given to my dad in 1969 (for his 21st birthday, including an engraving from his parents with his birthday date). On another note I loved the review you did of the 'lost watch'. The video cuts from the war made the review feel more like a history lesson. I'd love you to do more videos like that, it was so different and refreshing as most watch channels are very similar (I guess that's just the game though!) Great work as always, I'm sure your channel will grow quickly

    • @Escapement24
      @Escapement24  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the kinds words man, that Lost Watch video was a labour of love with hours of editing - but hardly any views 🤷 😂
      The Sideral is very cool IMO - not perfect but I still want one!! I've got a 35mm PRX coming in this week to check out so look out for a review of that coming soon. That 1969 Sea Star sounds like something to be treasured and passed down to the next generation.

    • @lakota_stu
      @lakota_stu Год назад

      @Escapement24 haha I bet! Sucks it didn't get the views it deserved, I was blown away by that video. I treasure the sea star as my dad passed away when I was 21. I see myself as the current guardian of the watch until it's time to pass it down to my son. It will always belong to my dad ❤️

    They've knocked it out the park with this one, love the colour ways on the face. I have a watch with a Powermatic movement and I can't fault it, yeah, you can see it tick slightly more that a 4Hz movement but so what! I think I could have swallowed it better had it been around the £600 mark, but then I don't know what's involved in making a carbon case. Yep, yellow for me, though I'd have loved a bright green one!

    • @Escapement24
      @Escapement24  Год назад +1

      Couldn't agree more - and the movement is pretty solid, accurate and reliable. Perhaps with the only disadvantage being that it can't be regulated.
      Even at £900 I think it's strong value - in replying to another comment I mentioned the Doxa Sub 300. There are a lot of similarities but that one in forged carbon is £4K+

    I have the yellow...and its a lot of fun - love it!...a few complaints: I dont think the bezel action is that great - feels very stiff...loses about 7 sec's/day (but who cares)..easy for it to slip off when you take the strap off, the screw down crown is so finely threaded that it takes a lot of turns to screw it off/on, and the 'countdown complication' doesnt make a lot of sense for vast majority of potential buyers....But Im clearly being picky...mechanical ETA movement, 300 M, sapphire, rotating bezel, see through case back, funky design, cool strap, date, all the lume...I love it

    The yellow looks great! Very tempting. Just wondering how you're coping with the size, given that the Doxa 600T was too big. This thing looks even chunkier!

    • @Escapement24
      @Escapement24  Год назад +1

      The size is definitely at the limit of what I feel comfortable with these days! It doesn't feel top heavy in the way the Doxa 600 did - I imagine that the tonneau case wears pretty similarly to the Doxa 300 - which is probably the one I should've gone for originally (though at the time it was out of budget).
      I've actually just realised while writing this that the Tissot is actually almost a budget alternative to the Doxa Sub 300 in forged carbon 🤔
      Wish that had occurred to me earlier as it would've been interesting to make a comparison in the video...dammit!! 😂

    Great review! This was an unexpected, but welcome release. I had considered getting a vintage Sideral S (yellow) last year, but did not end up making the leap. This has that funky '70s look with a slight modern twist. It's that fun summer watch I've always wanted. I mean, my Dan Henry 1970 orange works there, but this is next level and a great value for the money. I want the blue one in this case, but there's no bad choice.

    Nice original recreation (I think I said that right!?). Certainly captures the 50-year-old aesthetic embodied in the original. It has a flavour of Swatch about it (or more accurately Swatch pinched some broad design ideas from Tissot). You’re spot on that this is for sporty, not formal, wear (unless you’re James Dyson), although in 1971 I’m not sure there was such a thing as a “sporty or active lifestyle” - ‘lifestyles’ hadn’t been invented yet 😆😂🤣
    I think Tissot should have borrowed Longines’ 5hz hi-beat movement and added £2/300 to the price…and make it a bit thinner…and used a normal (good quality) FKM rubber strap. That would have been an astonishing, rather than just rather nice, watch.
