Pulled out our SHARP CAMCORDER VL-NZ150 to connect to the TV to watch the videos and the "Eject Cassette" error appears. We were broken-hearted. I thought it was due to the fact that it is old equipment or old cassette tape. Followed your instructions and IT WORKS!!! WE'RE THRILLED!! Thank you so much!!!

It's January 6th, 2024 and this worked on Canon GL1. I'm assuming this solution is an indication of a system that's nearing the end of it's life. My tape compartment makes so much noise that onboard audio is basically useless, but at least it's still recording video and if need be, I can still transfer A/V to computer. Thanks for putting this up.
Remember this was a workaround , camera worked fine in all respects , tapes worked fine and were not damaged. Try manually advancing the tape as shown just past the 8 min mark in the video
That happens because one of the two light detectors in the mechanism is faulty. When they work correctly, the tape gets to the end (or start) and the clear plastic tape leader allows light onto the detector so the camera knows that the reels should not be able to turn any more. If the detector is faulty the camera thinks that the reels have jammed when the tape is not at an end and it thinks that there is an error, so it will flag up "remove the cassette". Simply remove the mechanism and solder a new detector in place of the faulty one and replace the mechanism and all will be well.
Thanks so much for this! I have a tape that I realized was just messed up in one small section near the end. But through rewinding it past that point I was able to play most of what was on there.
hi thank you very much God bless you i bought cannon xl1 and canon xm2 both i had same problem when i done tape manually 10 time both camera now ok play back,and recording fine,only on screen small red sign in middle apart of that now it is ok thank you again
Worked fine on my Canon MV20 which had not been used for 10 years... however full functionality was only restored after the onboard battery became fully charged (overnight)

miałem jeszcze dopisać przechowując kasety nie kładziemy na płasko tylko na stojąco a dlaczego taśma w kasecie w warunkach domowych (ciepło) na płasko leżąc potrafi się zdeformować zwisając na bok i jest krzywa w zględem rolek prowadzących taśmę i następna sprawa sprzęgło po latach słabnieie i należy używać taśm o małym czasie nagrywania
I had this problem with a Sony brand tape on my ZR300 model Canon camcorder. In my experience, some TDK tapes I have seem to work better than Sony tapes.
I wish this had been a workaround I could use, however my error comes up, but the cassette holder won't pop up. So I cannot remove the tape. It hasn't been used for several years, but it worked just fine the last time I used it. Any ideas for advancing the tape while it is in the camera or how to remove the tape?

mine doesnt want to rewind and fast forward very well of the footage i just took ... maybe this will work? thx
This has worked one time for me but not consistently and only for playback. Do you have a way to fix for record more.
