    This is pointless. It does not actually show how to clean the tape part, You know the part people actually want to clean.

    @realvivifromloona 5 лет назад +9

    By cleaning the inside of the slip sheet at 1:20, you're basically getting rid of the factory-applied lubricant and making it more prone to excess friction and snapping.

      Rajan Hoxha wait so, does that mean if you take those sheets or whatever out of the cassette it will snap the tape? Cuz i do that looks like ima dumbass

    I still remember when small doing this thing and accidentally the reel slipped off my hand, it was like a sin committed. It took me more than an hour to roll back the tape to its position..
    But those were the best days I say..

      I remember the same thing happening to me when I was 7 years old, but I threw the tape in the trash after that :(

    I've been using my Compact Cassette Tapes since 1980's, played them thousands of times, and they still sound amazing! Never, ever did I had to clean them. I take real good care of my cassettes, as much as the machines that play and record them, always check the condition of playback/ record / erase heads, capstans & pinch rollers. ( I only clean the heads and capstans once or twice per year, and never, ever clean the pinch rollers, because my cassettes are always clean ). Never have any problems with cassettes, because I take good care of them and record them Louder, Cleaner and Sharper than CD's and especially MP3's!

      There is a part around the globe that is humid called the tropics. Them people know the problem the cassette tapes have and the difficulties to keep them off moisture and fungus.

      True for all the cassettes that I bought new because I took care of them, but in recent years I've acquired old tapes from others who didn't take care of them at all. I came to this video trying to see if/how others clean them. But this video sux. Guy is using his bare hands getting grease all over everything, he wipes the outside of the tape, but not the surface, and the tape isn't even dirty, just smudged from tape friction and use. Dumb, useless video. I don't think I'm willing to ruin my tape players with my friends' filthy tapes lol. I did purchase new pressure pads for all the tapes they had (like half of the ones they gave me, lol) that had them fall off! Still looking for a helpful video!

    А вот демпферную подушечку под головку, вы, автор, так и не почистили! И хоть кассета стала чистой, но из-за нечищеной подушки кассета будет либо скрипеть либо хуже воспроизводить звук.
    А я чищу так:
    1.смачиваю подушку обильно спиртом- чтобы удалить грязь, ждем полное высыхания подушки.
    2. тонкой иглой ворошу слежавшиеся ворсинки на подушечке.
    3.прикладываю неодимовый магнит дабы все железные частички от ленты удалились.
    При необходимости повторяю пункт2 и 3 несколько раз.
    Кроме того что не сделал автор так это смазку движущихся частей аудиокассеты( ролики, штыри, а также торцы пластиковой бобины. для роликов и штырей одной кассеты хватит 1 капли масла, для торцов использую обыкновенный карандаш, так как грифель обычного карандаша - это прекрасная смазка.

    TE: I don't think it his a good idea to clean the magnetic tape itself, because if you do you might clean off the megnatic tape lubricant, and it will cause it to sound distorted because you remove the lubrican with your cleaning, unless the cleaning you did on the megnatic tape itself it his the lubricant they used on magnetic tape.

      Nah, cleaning the tape isn't the actual problem, the problem is him cleaning the inside of the slip sheet (clear plastic label inside the tape) at 1:20. That's where the actual lubricant is stored and by wiping it he took off the lubricant.

      Cases without screws can only be put together with glue, and it's a lot more fiddly as an operation.

    This is way too complicated and time consuming and you cant do it with prerecorded tapes. The much simpler way that i have been using for about 10 years is to get a ultrasonic cleaner. Put distilled water in it with a few drops of dish soap. Add a few tapes and turn on. After 10 minutes take out of cleaner and shake out as much water as possible. Then in another bowl filled with isopropyl alcohol put in the recently washed tapes and slosh around. Then remove and shake out and set to dry. This helps to displace the water and alcohol evaporates quickly leaving you with a perfectly clean and functional tape. You can do quite a few in short amount of time depend on the size of your ultrasonic cleaner.

      Bob Keller sounds great, do the labels on the cassettes survive this process (both stickers and print?) Thanks

    • @bobkeller8383
      @bobkeller8383 5 лет назад

      @@danjoyce1985 good question. I forgot that part. The print i have not had any problems with. The labels on the other hand is a 50/50 shot. So now i take clear fonger nail polish and go around all the edges of the stickers. That has worked flawlessly. Thank you

    • @46tool25
      @46tool25 5 лет назад

      You can gently crack them open by taking a flathead screwdriver and putting it in the two holes at the top of the cassette one at a time,and slowly pry it open,I'm sure there are videos out there showing it

      then I guess you are screwed ( pun intended) but you can probably snap open the tape and then snap it closed if you are gentle enough.

    The moment you see the slide on both sides given you dust that is spread on the tape, instead of cleaning the sheet and put it back, leave it out. BTW only cleaning the sides of the tape want mmake a better soundquality ( as told allready in formal replies).

  • @rogeliolopez2190
    @rogeliolopez2190 4 года назад +6

    What the heck is this? You dont clean cassettes, you clean the players. The only format that you clean is records. This wont change the sound quality by any means and may even make it worse. This is because nothing,and I mean nothing is recorded on the side of the tape. The reason it's white is due to a crappy tape like what you have which has terrible lubricating plastic sheets which barely lubricate the reels and only lets the tape scrape on the plastic and ends up on the side of the reels which ends up being that white stuff. So you are totally wasting your time by doing such thing to the tape.

    • @theanalogguy1988
      @theanalogguy1988 4 года назад +1

      Well, if the cassettes covers by the dusts, yes you need to clean it. Especially old cassettes

      You're completely right dude!

    • @theanalogguy1988
      @theanalogguy1988 4 года назад

      Edgar Sanchez Prado yes, I am having this problem a lot. Every time I clean the head unit and the pinch roller, the dust will always be there after a few minutes or after like one song when the song isn’t finished. So the only thing you have to do is cleaning up the cassettes instead of the head unit and the pinch roller.

    • @rogeliolopez2190
      @rogeliolopez2190 4 года назад +2

      @@theanalogguy1988 I have only seen dust in my deck when I bought it used off ebay, but really the whole deck was nasty to begin with. But once restored the head does get dirty but that is from the ferric or chromium oxide that all tapes leave behind after being played. This is why its good practice to clean the tape heads, pinch rollers, and capstans every 10 hours of playing time. But the tape shouldn't have any dust. Note: The reason I say cheap tapes are prone to get stuck is because a cheap tape I bought off walmart 3 years back( which by the way sounded God awful) got stuck after 3 years but replacing the lubrication sheets(not cleaning the tape ) fixed it. Also non of my tapes from the 90s 80s or 70s have gotten stuck, EVER! And uncase you couldn't tell the tape used in this video looks pretty crappy as its a very light brown color (the darker the tape, the better)

    • @rogeliolopez2190
      @rogeliolopez2190 4 года назад +3

      @@HuskyGamersUNITE I just found out why I am one of the few who doesn't have this problem and thinks its a waste of time. apparently this problem is more of a location based problem. So if you live in America were just about everyone runs their Air conditioner all the time and there homes have very low humidity, this isn't a problem. But if you live in an a country were electricity is just too damn expensive to run the Air Conditioner all day and there homes stay very humid then this will be a problem. Tapes aren't very fond of humidity and will grow mold in humid climates. At that point your cassettes will sound like the The Edison Phonograph from the early 1900s unless you clean them. But since I live in America and I run the Air conditioner 24/7, This was never a problem to me. and to make sure i was right I took a tape I really didn't care about and I left it in my backyard (covered from rain of course) for about 2 weeks. And will you look at that, the tape had grown mold, barely any but it did. So I agree that I was wrong all this time. I did try cleaning the tape and it seemed to work fine. ( however, the previous comment about my tape getting stuck because of cheap lubrication sheets did happen)
