It's really sad to see those beautiful old school Pete's just dying away,I wish I was rich,so i can buy couple of those Pete's,and bring them back to life and keep them in private collection
I agree I started driving semi trucks back in 1989 , 1st truck was a 1977 AutoCar. Then a 1981 Freightliner but when i sat in the seat of a 1984 Peterbilt 359 with a 3408 Cat.... I wish I had one of those trucks and bring it back to its former glory... the Corvette style dash .......... Awesome trucks
The first two trucks you looked at were in surprisingly good condition. I'd put them probably early to mid 80s. Do you know if the owner would be interested in selling any of them?
These are REAL trucks with class...not the plasticky, troublesome "wannabe" trucks they're building nowadays! I'm proud to say that I drove trucks in an era when trucks were still trucks and before the EPA and DOT took the last bit of joy out of trucking!
wow u guys with all the big dreams and $ should get ahold of me and show me the $ so i can get you some petes worth restoring! these are out there !they arent gold! tell me how much $ you really have to spend ? hit me up @ my channel so i can get your info! please no BS wanna be's! cash talks and i here a lot of sqaulk -show me a real icon i can click on and get your info then tell me what you want and show me a pic of your bank statement so i know your not a squaker! TRUTH
@@ramrod7227 yes they are cool but the guy thinks that they are Gold and wont sell any one of them SO ,im just saying these trucks are all over and forsale, they arent gold and there are 359 needle nose trucks in running condition right now 4 sale , im saying hit me up if you want one!:) dont stop dreaming but when a persons ready to stop dreaming and drop some real cold hard cash then let me know! if that makes me seem like i jerk sorry im actually willing to help a real guy who is serious to own one some day.
Trucking 101 no you make a valid point. I grew up around these old 359s and 379s. They are not worth their weight in gold. They are still a dime a dozen. It would be cool to resurrect these old trucks but I personally have no interest. I think it’s awesome that people do tho. Good for them
as a heavy diesel machanic the peterbilt and kenworth the classic ones are so beautiful and looks like they have a soul I have always loved working on older trucks even bulldogs the peterbilt are soul and beauty on the highway newer trucks are ugly looking for sure not built with heart
I know you got asked a lot. And might not be active or able to make the info "public" But I'm like 50 miles from San Antonio And will be in the market for a 359 Pete later on I'd love to know where these trucks are. Just to go look at them I want to eventually get an old 359 and restore it. As an owner operator truck. Preferably with an old 262 or 335 naturally aspirated Cummins With backdrop manifolds and 4" pipes And a 5x4 twin stick set up I'd more or less stay "leased" under a local company but driving my own truck....
I would go and buy the steering wheel and put it in a pickup or something, take some parts, or just try to fix her up. The inside is amazing! Poor Pete’s rotting away
Seeing this, I think about back in the 70's & 80's there was a rash of stolen 18 wheel dirt haulers where I lived. None ever recovered as far as I know. I can't help but wonder if they wound up deserted in a place like this. Also seems like this could have been a place to hide your trucks when the business went belly up and you didn't want the bank to come recover their stuff.
For the most part, it doesn't appear as though it would take much to put those Petes back on the road. It seems that company simply junks their trucks when they reach a certain age, regardless of the condition
Sad reality is it costs a lot to keep these on the road. Some parts are hard to find, no one stocks parts for them, can't find drivers to drive old trucks, fuel mileage is less, DOT will hassle you more, and Company's want to hire new trucks. There not long hoods. If your going to put 20000 in one make it a long hood. I've owned several and still keep 2 on road. Just a labor of love. Oh and most were built when speed limits were 55 so gearing is wrong. How many drivers no what it's like to go 65 at 2100 RPM with solid fan hub. And better hope you don't get one with an 8V92. Save the best one let the others wait
Well parts are easy to find, but everything else you said is true, I used to drive the brown Pete always got hassled by DOT, but she was a runner her nickname was 3 digits
Hector Torres _I know what you mean, i keep telling my boss to do something with them but he never does, i feel just like all the people commenting sad that there rotting away.
thats easy to say but in real reality just be smart and go find one thats on the road now and start your build from there it will cost you a lot less -just the truth :)

What a waste. If I only had the money
Ikr, i have a peterbiltb 359 and its my favorite Peterbilt model
Those are neat old trucks. I would love to fix one up and put it back on the road.
I drove a few like these when they were almost new. (I was blessed to do so). These trucks have a long way to go to bring them back to original glory.
where are they located
I'd love to restore either one of those old 359 petes! Are they for sale? GORGEOUS pieces of trucking history!
Some of them probably just need a lil TLC and they be back on the road, better than any of the new garbage they making today with the emissions shit!
That sad to see these classics just rotting away. Would love to purchase one or two of them

What's great to know is that someone will eventually get these up and running again since they are so valuable

Trucking 101 idk why you feel the need to bust everyone’s balls who comments. These are cool old trucks man. People can dream. Stop being a dickhead.

My eyes hurt seeing this :( one day I wanna come out and give these beasts a new lease on life.
Any word on the trucks being for sale ?
That's really rare to see they're not totally molested being that they sit at a still functioning trucking company, they're not all stripped yet.
