So Barrell is worth worrying about. Well, if you like the brand. They are still operating but they are in a world of hurt financially. Selling off their brand new facility to reduce the debt obligation bought them time but they also fired their entire sales team. They went to wide too fast and that bit them. They were clearly making a play with the hopes of being acquired quickly and that failed. Other brands got bought first because their bottles were moving at enough volume to cover an ailing balance sheet. P&L could have been all red and that's fine if you can project future cash flows, but I guarantee their balance sheet was a nightmare. We have seen FAR fewer releases in 2024 which is good...but I don't see anyone buying the stock on shelf other than batch 35 and some Foundation. No store wants to do a private barrel because most stores are still stuck with picks from 2022. I've seen some 2020 picks at smaller stores on sale for $45 and they still can't move it. Also doesn't help they liquidated many of their barrels at a loss on the barrel market. The market is VERY competitive now and they missed their exit. I'd wager they sell off their inventory to another company in the next 18 months or they file for bankruptcy.
A confluence of factors have hurt their margins and revenue. I think they'll survive the cash burn, but the days of multiple releases are over, like you pointed out!! GREAT COMMENT 👍🏼

I picked up a Weller FP pick down here in SoCal for $100 last month! My buddy at the shop was doing s Fathers Day sale. That tequila you got in the bundle is actually pretty solid. My favorite Mexican restaurant in town uses that for their house margaritas. Cheers on the great scores!

Wanna start by saying of course you get to spend your $$ on whatever you want and if you have the disposable income to do so, then that's great for you, but most of those aren't great deals. Sure Weller FP, (and 107 and Stagg) like most things BT has been extremely overpriced for years (thank you 3 tier distribution system), still, I'd be hesitant to call finding it at $180 a monumental improvement over the ~$300 price tag it has been for years (especially when it's still ~$200 after tax and the msrp is supposed to be $60-70). I get it, the hunt and fomo is real, and the only time I saw Weller FP picks for $100 was at a store in OC. Buying into these bundles is what keeps the secondary market alive and your budget blown (especially when you spend 2x on what those bottles are supposed to be worth - I can see your receipt total btw). I understand wanting all these things and I'm sure they're gonna be great, but it allows the system to remain intact. But hey, you do you. I don't live in CA anymore and couldn't be happier I no longer have to watch allocated bottles only tied to bundles with fireball, wheatly vodka and tequila I don't want.
I understand your point of view and respect it. Also, in a tongue-in-cheek kinda way, transactions like this contribute to the secondary madness. @@Birds-EyeBourbon they mean it is astringent on the pallet. Bitter and ethonol heavy not in burn but in taste. when it sits in oak longer it loses that and gains more brown sugar caramel sweetness you will also get more of a green wood than sweet oak
@@Birds-EyeBourbon try the benchmark bonded, then try eht small batch. the same mash bill the same proof same distillery. eht is older, you will see what I mean. the bench mark has a more tannic astringent palette. Doesn't mean it's bad just not as refined or robust.

Old Carter is one of the most laughable bottles on shelf IMO. It's usually just MGP at astronomically high mark ups.
