    The sheer lack of traffic is unbelievable. The M62 roundabout is unrecognisable by today’s volume of traffic. Xscape has a lot to answer for.

    Great seeing way things was back then & takes u back to that exact time & u knew every car on the roads & knew all the music on the radio. Great stuff

    Fascinating video! The contradictions with how similar yet so different life was back then are truly remarkable. The road layout, and signage are literally identical to how they are today. This may sound strange but even the way the radio presenter is speaking is like how they speak today. But then seeing all the 80s cars, the lack of traffic and some of the building signs and fonts is like something from another world.

    • @251hanomag
      @251hanomag  4 года назад +1

      This was filmed with a shoulder mount style video camera (An Olympus VX -301).
      This was mounted on a tripod bungeed to the front passenger seat, the camera would have being were a passengers head would be.
      Then the camera lens zoomed in to clear the dashboard.
      So this made everything look jerky & a lot more nearer than it was.

    So different. I suppose Thatcher hadn't QUITE stripped the heart and soul out of the place, yet.
    I was 13 when this was filmed, and I could swear there was more traffic on the roads back then, but of course its a Sunday, when Sunday meant the day off for almost everyone. It was boring as hell as a kid, but now I crave that day! If you saw a road like it is at 2:00 you'd think there was a pandemic or something mad like that.

      That McDonalds drive through on the entrance causes lots of queues onto the roundabout nowadays.
      And also blocking access to the stores.
      Because of cars wait to turn right into it.
      And the ones already queuing on the left won`t let them in !

    • @251hanomag
      @251hanomag  2 года назад +2

      Never, traded in for a 1981 Mk3 Escort. In March 1987.
      Due to the position of the camera, & having the camera lens zoomed in to clear the dashboard.
      This did make everything look jerky & a lot more nearer than it was.
      If the camera wasn`t zoomed in. It would have being just all dashboard & car roof.
      As seen in some of the other videos. If the car is waiting at a junction etc.
      Passing vehicles & people walking across the junction. Do look like they are on the bonnet..
