Thirty four years ago a dear friend told me that a new pastor was starting a church in our city and he wanted to visit it. So we went to Redeemer Presbyterian Church in 1989 and we met Tim Keller. I was a baby Christian at the time and had never been taught the foundations of my faith or sound theology until I started listening to Pastor Tim. He informed my faith and set my feet upon the Rock, our Lord. I’ve been to many churches and heard many sermons since those early years but I can’t remember any of them. Only Tim’s teaching and preaching still remains in my heart and the Holy Spirit brings his words back to me when I need them most. I also want you to know that he is one of the kindest Christian pastors I have ever know met. He is genuine, honest, gentle, respectful and he really loves the body of Christ. I’m so glad that he is beyond his earthly sufferings now and is finally home with Jesus. Finally I would just like to address those who have questioned his worth or demeaned Tim’s name in some of the comments I have read here. Was Tim perfect? Absolutely not! And, I too believe that he missed the mark on at least two accounts in his later years. His social justice advocacy stance I believe was not biblical and his seeker friendly approach to evangelism saddened me. However, God used him mightily to save thousands of unbelievers, to plant many other biblically based churches and, to those who knew him personally, be a strong witness of the gentle power, humility and love of Jesus Christ. We have receive abundant (undeserved) Mercy and are called to be vessels of mercy and not of wrath. What Tim has given to me and myriads of others is beyond description and eternally precious! This teaching video has brought comfort to many of us who have listened. The Grace of God was truly on Tim’s life until the end. This sermon is certainly the most pertinent I've ever heard. While I've only been a follower of Jesus for a few years, the tenor of Psalm 88 generslly captures how I've felt since I was young. And while I have certainty now that Jesus died for us, still the darkness keeps invading my heart; but it's made all the more bearable because of that certainty, and it is this very sermon I just watched that has propped another pillar under this weary soul. Thank you, Chris, for sending me this; Thank you, Pastor Tim, God rest your soul, for so powerfully preaching on this subject; And thank you, Jesus Christ my savior, for loving us all so. I love this teaching! NO theatrics, no emotional manipulation, no yelling and pontificating . . .just a gifted teacher sharing truth from God's word. This is the stuff that changes hearts and has lasting value. The lost world can listen and consider rather than be repulsed by the "show" so many put on. Thank you, Dr. Keller, for teaching in a way that honors God's word and recognizes no theatrics are needed. Truth penetrates on it's own.

This message was very helpful. Even after regeneration I lose my way and wander and I get angry with God and His spirit seems to leave me completely but yet even when I cry out to Him I love Him in the emptiness but more importantly He’s there and still loves me. Just the slightest touch from Him is unimaginable joy.

My husband of nearly fifty-four years died in August of last year. I have felt God's grace many times since then when I have cried out to Him, complained to Him, wailed to Him, and accused Him of not listening to me, even though I didn't feel it. I always believed that God heard me when I prayed to Him, but I believed that He didn't want to hear what I saying. What I didn't do was rest in the assurance that He has never left my side, even through these terrible months of grief. In God's time, He will use my pain to glorify Him. My husband passed away February 2021. It was the worst day of my life. This has been the darkest time in my life. Hope to strength. I don't feel any hope. No strength either. Sadness and darkness I feel. I talk to God and my husband. Even though I feel this way, I know God is with me even when I don't feel it.

I actually had a “sister in Christ” tell me the reason why so many women from the church I had attended for 18 years had walked away from me after the death of our 20yr. old granddaughter, “I’ve never known anyone who praises God as much as you do and yet, I’ve never known anyone that God says no to more than He says no to you!” He has never left me nor forsaken me!

Hi beloved. Psalm 77 is really helpful to me in extreme grief. Also, I keep a notebook and write down every time God teaches me something new out of His Word, or does something for me I didnt ask for or answers a prayer of mine. When the dark day comes, I get it out and read through it. This is what the Psalmist called "remembering". "I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High. I will remember...". Remember beloved, faith not feelings. We walk by faith, not feelings. Whether we feel God's presence or not He is here. Jesus promised, "I will never leave thee or forsake thee". Search the Scriptures like Jesus said in John 5:39.
Verse 10: 'shall the dead praise You?' The Psalmist means the sense of death, which is very real in the lowest depression - 'death in life' as Tennyson puts it.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I wonder why Keller keeps saying that this Psalmist' complaint bordered on disrespect and blasphemy. If we cannot tell God how we feel, then we are not treating God as a true friend. I know that Keller believes this too because he referred to Job's complaint as real prayer - acceptable prayer. Exactly!!!!
Appreciate his perspective but don't agree with precept that Heman and Job Shouldn't have been praying this way. Of course they should! God loves honesty when we come to Him... and as you mentioned Jesus' cry and His suffering, their moans and cries were prophetic. Darkness WAS His only friend, and theirs. Thank you for this message. It is full of deep truth, insight and encouragement. We are "living stones being built into a spiritual house." 1 Peter 2:1-5. Read it for yourself. It is a wonderful passage. We have a purpose - Jesus Christ, the chief Cornerstone, is building the Kingdom of God and by grace through faith in Him we get to be a part of it. The last enemy that he will conquer is death.
Please pray for me. I'm paralyzed in bed quadriplegic in India since 13 years. On top of this met a girl was happy for 2 and half years she loved me truly i hurt her during an argument she couldn't take it so left, saw her as a wife. Deep down they understood that God was their only hope even when they couldn’t sense his presence Knowing their own selfishness they also knew that believing and obeying God was their way to salvation There’s a want to be President who is the opposite. He espouses God and people believe it while deep down he doesn’t trust him at all so has decided his salvation is through power and lies and manipulation and mayhem.
And feeling abandoned could kill u with depression. U struggle w. those thoughts for life. That’s y some wanted death instead of feeling so horrible all the time.

This hits home. For 7 years I was facing death dealing with an illness with unending pain, but worst of all i knew that i would be leaving my disabled single mother behind in this world. I grew to know darkness deeply and intimately and empathize with every murderer and evildoer throughout history. Like this man in the Bible i cursed and wrestled with God buti can say now that because of how far and stubborn I was, God needed to deal this heavy blow. But moreso than that, God wanted me back. I'm still traumatized and broken but I am growing in every way that matters. Getting pretty healthy too.
@@enterty4364 1. God is the one that gifts us faith. Faith isn't something that we can attain through our own works. That said, we can ask God to grant us this faith. 2. Just as how there are trillions of organisms in the universe, God's faith can be given in any way he sees fit. Whether that's through scripture, a sequence of events, a small seed of faith that's been given as a child, or a crushing blow to the core of our very being -- all we can do is make a genuine decision to accept that seed of faith and press forward and invest in the relationship to truly see for yourself where the relationship takes you. 3. As with all relationships, you need to invest your heart and time into it. That's what God wants and that's one of the ways in which the seed can grow. I wish you all the best.

Thirty four years ago a dear friend told me that a new pastor was starting a church in our city and he wanted to visit it. So we went to Redeemer Presbyterian Church in 1989 and we met Tim Keller. I was a baby Christian at the time and had never been taught the foundations of my faith or sound theology until I started listening to Pastor Tim. He informed my faith and set my feet upon the Rock, our Lord. I’ve been to many churches and heard many sermons since those early years but I can’t remember any of them. Only Tim’s teaching and preaching still remains in my heart and the Holy Spirit brings his words back to me when I need them most. I also want you to know that he is one of the kindest Christian pastors I have ever know met. He is genuine, honest, gentle, respectful and he really loves the body of Christ. I’m so glad that he is beyond his earthly sufferings now and is finally home with Jesus.
Finally I would just like to address those who have questioned his worth or demeaned Tim’s name in some of the comments I have read here. Was Tim perfect? Absolutely not! And, I too believe that he missed the mark on at least two accounts in his later years. His social justice advocacy stance I believe was not biblical and his seeker friendly approach to evangelism saddened me. However, God used him mightily to save thousands of unbelievers, to plant many other biblically based churches and, to those who knew him personally, be a strong witness of the gentle power, humility and love of Jesus Christ. We have receive abundant (undeserved) Mercy and are called to be vessels of mercy and not of wrath.
What Tim has given to me and myriads of others is beyond description and eternally precious! This teaching video has brought comfort to many of us who have listened. The Grace of God was truly on Tim’s life until the end. Blessed and Merciful Father God, please help us to be as loving as our brother and your servant Tim Keller. God bless you all!✝️❣️🙏
This sermon is certainly the most pertinent I've ever heard. While I've only been a follower of Jesus for a few years, the tenor of Psalm 88 generslly captures how I've felt since I was young. And while I have certainty now that Jesus died for us, still the darkness keeps invading my heart; but it's made all the more bearable because of that certainty, and it is this very sermon I just watched that has propped another pillar under this weary soul. Thank you, Chris, for sending me this; Thank you, Pastor Tim, God rest your soul, for so powerfully preaching on this subject; And thank you, Jesus Christ my savior, for loving us all so. Thank you, God.
I love this teaching! NO theatrics, no emotional manipulation, no yelling and pontificating . . .just a gifted teacher sharing truth from God's word. This is the stuff that changes hearts and has lasting value. The lost world can listen and consider rather than be repulsed by the "show" so many put on. Thank you, Dr. Keller, for teaching in a way that honors God's word and recognizes no theatrics are needed. Truth penetrates on it's own.

This message was very helpful. Even after regeneration I lose my way and wander and I get angry with God and His spirit seems to leave me completely but yet even when I cry out to Him I love Him in the emptiness but more importantly He’s there and still loves me. Just the slightest touch from Him is unimaginable joy.

My husband of nearly fifty-four years died in August of last year. I have felt God's grace many times since then when I have cried out to Him, complained to Him, wailed to Him, and accused Him of not listening to me, even though I didn't feel it. I always believed that God heard me when I prayed to Him, but I believed that He didn't want to hear what I saying. What I didn't do was rest in the assurance that He has never left my side, even through these terrible months of grief. In God's time, He will use my pain to glorify Him. Oh my goodness, that has been such a hard truth to accept. I'm still suffering, but now I realize that God will not leave me in desperate circumstances forever. Diane in North Carolina

This has been the darkest time in my life. Hope to strength. I don't feel any hope. No strength either. Sadness and darkness I feel. I talk to God and my husband. Even though I feel this way, I know God is with me even when I don't feel it.

Hi beloved. Psalm 77 is really helpful to me in extreme grief. Also, I keep a notebook and write down every time God teaches me something new out of His Word, or does something for me I didnt ask for or answers a prayer of mine. When the dark day comes, I get it out and read through it. This is what the Psalmist called "remembering". "I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High. I will remember...". Remember beloved, faith not feelings. We walk by faith, not feelings. Whether we feel God's presence or not He is here. Jesus promised, "I will never leave thee or forsake thee". Search the Scriptures like Jesus said in John 5:39.

The Psalmist means the sense of death, which is very real in the lowest depression - 'death in life' as Tennyson puts it.

I wonder why Keller keeps saying that this Psalmist' complaint bordered on disrespect and blasphemy. If we cannot tell God how we feel, then we are not treating God as a true friend. I know that Keller believes this too because he referred to Job's complaint as real prayer - acceptable prayer. Exactly!!!!
Appreciate his perspective but don't agree with precept that Heman and Job Shouldn't have been praying this way. Of course they should! God loves honesty when we come to Him... and as you mentioned Jesus' cry and His suffering, their moans and cries were prophetic. Darkness WAS His only friend, and theirs. Thank you for this message. It is full of deep truth, insight and encouragement. We are "living stones being built into a spiritual house." 1 Peter 2:1-5. Read it for yourself. It is a wonderful passage. We have a purpose - Jesus Christ, the chief Cornerstone, is building the Kingdom of God and by grace through faith in Him we get to be a part of it. The last enemy that he will conquer is death.
Please pray for me. I'm paralyzed in bed quadriplegic in India since 13 years. On top of this met a girl was happy for 2 and half years she loved me truly i hurt her during an argument she couldn't take it so left, saw her as a wife. when our body will die then only this body is like ash has no value,our body needs food but soul doesn’t need, again our soul sometimes want to do bad work again after we think not to do that bad will, even after death body and soul become separate, only soul become alive. So these parts are seperated from one another,So how you make this example to compare? I want answer just some question to you :
1.If God wants to free all from sin why should he be died? And if he die how he be a God? And if he be a God how the power of human can be more than him that they crucified him?
2.Before Jesus, none know about him,so they couldn’t believe in Jesus,that's why they all will go in hell? Once Jejus was not in earth, now he doesn’t survive so if he be god's part he should must survive in all time?
4.If jesus have mother how he be a God? One part of God did sex and another part came through this way? How funny!! If there are more than One God then there become devastating work cause for claiming divinity and dominantly, now which part of God did want to sex then there can be a devastating work against competence though God is one and if he wish to send Jesus without father like adam was sent without mother and father, he can.
5. If heaven's soul be a part of God so why his power only limited with heaven instead of all place?
6.How funny God is like a human? Jesus needed foods to alive, jesus needed rest to relax,jesus only was limited for a piece of earth and only was sent to Jewish how funny you claim him as God?
7.God who knows our past our present as well as our future. If you read bible you find many verses written that Jesus was ignorant about many incidents that he had needed to know from his followers who were witness.. So how you can say that jejus is God..

Don't you need a blood sacrifice (Kourban) to cleanse a sin ("the price of sin is death")? Doesn't it have to be physical or can you make a virtual sacrifice? But human/physical is not perfect - so the sacrifice would be not perfect, if He was not divine, because only God can be perfect. What happens if a sacrifice is not perfect? Will you have to make one over and over again.

May I find my strength in Christ and grow and see His mercy. May I find healing too! This hits home.
For 7 years I was facing death dealing with an illness with unending pain, but worst of all i knew that i would be leaving my disabled single mother behind in this world. I grew to know darkness deeply and intimately and empathize with every murderer and evildoer throughout history. Like this man in the Bible i cursed and wrestled with God buti can say now that because of how far and stubborn I was, God needed to deal this heavy blow. But moreso than that, God wanted me back. I'm still traumatized and broken but I am growing in every way that matters. Getting pretty healthy too.
How did you come to believe in God and Jesus Christ? I am suffering greatly and trying to receive grace myself.
@@enterty4364 1. God is the one that gifts us faith. Faith isn't something that we can attain through our own works. That said, we can ask God to grant us this faith. 2. Just as how there are trillions of organisms in the universe, God's faith can be given in any way he sees fit. Whether that's through scripture, a sequence of events, a small seed of faith that's been given as a child, or a crushing blow to the core of our very being -- all we can do is make a genuine decision to accept that seed of faith and press forward and invest in the relationship to truly see for yourself where the relationship takes you. 3. As with all relationships, you need to invest your heart and time into it. That's what God wants and that's one of the ways in which the seed can grow. I wish you all the best.
