Not a chance, my friend! The legacy of Tim Keller goes DEEP...all one has to do is make a practice of listening to him talk - through his sermons, and hearing him in discussions with believers, and unbelievers, too. The man was truly touched by God. Don't we just know how warmly he must have been welcomed into heaven after his own "nice night's sleep"?
I will always feel profoundly blessed by his ministry. Thank you for your comment! 😊

Since I became born again in 2019 I got to experience the immense blessings of God. He has been kind to me in every area of my life, changed who I am and blessed me with more than I could have ever asked. But lately I’ve been faced with the reality of death, and that all the people I love will die. It made me question, why am I receiving such beautiful blessings, why are flowers so beautifully made, and the sun always rises and warms me; and then there is the overwhelming fact that my mom, brothers, and children will die. Why? But learning about suffering is very helpfully to understanding that this world was never meant to be my home. And suffering doesn’t diminish Gods love for me. I somehow, being a young Christian amongst God’s blessings expected only good things and a pain free life with God. But I’m hopeful to keep learning about God and the meaning and purpose of life and suffering.

Thank you for your testimony, honesty, and vulnerability - it is refreshing to those of us who travel long and get jaded and cranky. Don't pay attention to us! Remember Paul'ls prayer for you - inspired by the Holy Spirit: "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it." 1 Thess 5:23-24

People use Christians who don’t live up to standard as the reason for not believing in Christianity. I see their point. Although there are may Christians who inspire and many who disappoint, every Christian on the planet doesn’t live up to the standard that’s why Jesus came. Instead look at Jesus’ life in the gospels and use that as why you would believe or not. He ultimately is the one who saves you in the end. I would use someone who claimed to be God as my standard. The rest of us he promises to keep working on us and with us until that day. The kind of love Christ demonstrated when He was here has not been seen before or since. This is the love that changes lives!!

I’ve been avoiding listening to this preacher because I’ve heard he speaks a lot about suffering. I, on the other hand, prefer “feel good “ sermons. I’m coming to the realization that trying to avoid suffering is just simply not going to work. But also, that suffering may not be as disparaging as I’ve feared. It may, in a way, be a sort of conduit to something better. Something unattainable any other way. Anyway, I’m sort of starting to think that way.

Thomas Boston, a 17th-century theologian, wrote a book titled "The Crook in the Lot: The Sovereignty and Wisdom of God Displayed in the Afflictions of Men." (gotta love that title). It was reprinted in 2001 after 9/11 to re-address the question of suffering. If you can handle the somewhat archaic English and dry writing, it's an excellent read. As Doug Johnson commented, suffering is referred to as "Refiners Fire" and this perspective changes everything for the Christian. For those who reject the gospel message of Jesus, suffering and pain have no ultimate meaning.

I highly recommend you read "Companions in suffering" by Wendy Alsup. It is a book of someone who has gone through ongoing suffering, wrestled with God in the process, and firsthand experienced the added "insult to injury" by christians who argue like Job's "friends (and the pastors you mentioned). It is a book that is faith deepening and it may help you. It is, true to its own title, a true companion in suffering. I am, by the way, also a Covid long hauler, slowly coming back to rebuilding my life after an insane time. I lost much, and definitely did have my share of wrestling with God. But my faith is deeper and stronger now, my understanding of the Gospel so much clearer. I would not want to trade it, despite the tears. It has been hard, but liberating. So, hang on; read, study, pray; dare to trust Him who gave His life for you. Allow him to change your faith away from the subtle versions of the prosperity gospel that most of us have ingrained unconciously. And don't let Job's friends tear you further down. They don't know what they are doing.

'Who can straighten what he has made crooked?' There isn't anything I find from Jesus to suggest that one has to join a church to be saved. One might want to adopt a practice of church discipline in response to the love of God, one might want to avoid worldly temptations arising from fellowship. It seems evident that churches are subject to sin as much as any earthly institution. Still, church can be wonderful, 'with God all things are possible'.

@@milels6917 It would be a blessing to you to drop that feeling of guilt. You might consider that you have the strongest possible fellowship with your husband, with which you are one flesh. You are also just slightly fellowshipping with me. However brief that is, it shows each of us has the ability, however weak, to connect with others. Keller has been helpful to me, allowing a stony heart a little softening. An unschooled uncle of mine once said to me, 'if you feel far from God, who moved?'. I say a closer walk is that soft heart that allows greater love. These are thoughts from a sinner in sunset years. You seem on the right path. God bless.

Suffering is the result of Adam &Eve eating the fruit of knowing good and evil. God preceded evil then why would God allow this fruit into the garden? The answer is God needs us to choose love .There is nothing more miraculous than choosing good . God would not have it any other way. It’s not about the suffering but rather us willingly choosing God.

If you get a brand new car, right from the dealership, and on the first drive the brakes fail and u crash, its dumb to go from that to say “no one made this car.” Instead we should say “something went wrong.” Same with God. Suffering, natural disasters, death... just because they happen u cant jump from that to “there is no God.” You have to seek out and figure out what went wrong.

@Timothy J Keller terrible, terrible way to advertise. Do not use God as a means of making money. Do not mix God’s name with lies. Do not falsely prophesy. I pray that God convicts you of the ways youve dishonored His name

But if God is a weeping savior, and he can know our sufferings before they happen, plus he loves us so much, does it mean that he is sad all the time? I mean if he is all knowing then he isn’t like what they say, he can’t be sad all the time for all these ppl that have existed and now exist. But if he isn’t why would some ppl at church always tell me when I’m sad that Jesus is sad that I’m sad, to show he cares? That he’s walking me through. It seems to me that it’ll just be too much for Jesus? I dunno. N when pastor Keller talks about how we leave God n all horrible things happened to us is like Hindu saying it’s not ur fault or what u did in this life. Is something I don know if I did. I just know I was designed this way. That I’m able to sin, maybe even sinning without knowing. N if the price to get back to God is to carry your own cross there’s no freedom in it nor given for free. For something so horrible happened to leave the one who loves me n now I have no choice because I was designed a certain way to thrive. And if I don’t get back to HIM horrible things will keep happening to me. N we learn the wisdom in the New Testament from Jesus to deal w. different kinds of ppl bc the pastors say it’s wise. But if u try to apply it in real life sometimes it doesn’t work as u would think bc my ppl could be worse(or maybe ppl in the world nowadays r worse in general) n u get hurt n mistreated bc of ur naivety.

chagiRenee , I’m not sure if I understand exactly, but in my own experience, one is not necessarily on the one hand sorrowful or on the other hand joyful. They are sometimes present quite simultaneously. I was happily, joyfully, married for 3 decades, and then came cancer. She suffered pain and physical dissolution and I suffered with her, and in the end, I lost her. I had to go on without her. Shockingly, though I miss her intensely, the joy I experience when contemplating the meaning, the blessing, the enriching she brought me, is something I never knew joy before, to the same intensity as as I did when she was physically present. I experience sorrow every day because of her absence, yet I experience what the Bible calls “fullness of joy” daily beyond anything before. Yes, I know it sounds crazy. But it is what it is. Does God suffer constantly? Yes. And he is yet the Fountain of Joy and Love. I hope will you will come to experience this, even if you can’t always explain it.

Wow. "anti-fragile." I'm all for a neologism when one is called for, such as "milktoastmaster," a weak public speaker, or "shuckster," a humble, but disingenuous salesman. We're fortunate that English has words like flexible, yielding, elastic and even the overused "tough," that have multiple connotations and ample meaning. I feel like we're always dumbing down the message. It's essential that we speak clearly and in a way all can understand, but we are God's workmanship, his artistry, and we are epistles of flesh, the living letters written to mankind. We need not only to convince the outsider, we need to inspire. There is beauty in holiness.

Its all hear say till actial Jesus show up or sctially exsist. In Bible Jesus even said to guy with just lipservice stay away from me and to who actally had deed & action thank you what he did was to other was did to him. From this content he horner not hypicrats or lip service(story teller withoutaction)
So according to his speach need actall deed or apparence in action not just story
    only
But we do not see his actall appearance.
Jesus hated phypicrats teacher back then so am I . because phipicracy create so much pain suffaring in our world. That is not call love
His last commendment befor his cross Bible story so many doesnt obey today His ladt commendment was love eachother, not lie to each other not be phypicrat or not be only lip service egoistic.

    Unanswered prayer?
God answers the prayers of Christians.
A man's perception that his prayer has not been answered, is from man not God.

The Christianity you have now teaches differently: since Jesus did all the suffering for us and you are now a born again new creature, you are not supposed to have any suffering. You are supposed to be healthy and wealthy or something is wrong with you. You are supposed to constantly confess how well you are, regardless how bad things are. Otherwise you are wrong.
They don't pray for others, more than so.
You are supposed to pray for yourself and if it does not work you are at fault.

The sad commentary on the reporter who said her research of those doing the most dangerous things to help others, caused her to recognize her secular view as causing her to be more upset over the suffering of others than those with a faith in the supernatural.
This sounds like the reason so many in the U.S.A. are subject to "virtue signalling."
If you believe your cause is just so stronly that you do not care to even hear the voices of those with a different take, you have a problem. But their "just causes" do not have thae proper godly, moral backing.
The sad part to me is that she seems to be acting like you are born secular, so there you go.
She instead should be noting the superiority of the godly view of the world and seek toward that herself.
    Matthew 6 :33
Seek ye first the kingdom of God is the appropriate goal for every person on earth.
