I was the same way, after the 1st run-in service and almost $400 for an oil change, I just started to do all my own services, and my own specialty tools.
I was at the dealership today and a guy was leaving on his R1300GS. I asked him what he just paid for the break-in service and he said $700!!! you can buy all of these tools for that price and save so much money over the years.
I just want to again thank you for the videos you take the time to post especially for us newbies… I’m not new to motorcycles but I’m new to the BMW R1200GS series bike… you have made it not only fun to ride but also fun to work on and become one with the motorcycle… ur the man keep it up…
That means a lot to me. Thank you and it's been great knowing people are enjoying these and finding value. I spoke to a guy today who had just gotten the 600 mile service on his R1300GS and he was charged $700 for an oil change and final drive fluid swap.
That’s crazy…. 700 plus for something that your videos show not only how to do but how easy it can be if we take our time… lol…
The Wera torx drivers (with the screwdriver handle) are lovely for the smaller sizes!
They were expensive and hard to swallow the first time but I'm so glad I have them now. Never let me down and those Torx bits are strong even the tiny ones.
Ha! You got me hooked on Wera tools way back when you first recommended the Zyclops kit. I've been adding to it ever since and like those tools a lot.
I'm glad to hear they haven't let you down. I am now even more enthusiastically recommending these tools. They'e been great. Not sure if they'd hold up to a real mechanic usage of every day but for weekend projects, I have zero complaints.

Well, it wasn't like highly polished like some folks but it's the tools I use and featuring nothing that doesn't work.

Yeah, I think my kits are 3/8 and 1/4 inch. no half inch tools. Thanks for the correction.
Valve checking newb here, never done it. I'm looking to buy my first set of feelers to check my K bike that has specifications of intake min/max of 0.15mm/0.20mm and exhaust min/max of 0.25mm/0.30mm.
I see your feeler gauges are in inch increments with metric conversion. I'm assuming boxer valve limits are specified by BMW using metric like my K bike.
Is this a case of the inch increments being close enough for go / no go checking? What about if you actually need accurate dimensions for different shims?
I've looked and looked and haven't been able to find a set of metric feeler gauges.

Hi, this is what I use which is the 26 piece Metric+SAE - amzn.to/44PHBMq Sadly, none of my GS bikes have ever needed a valve adjustment so it's honestly something I don't have much insight on. I do have some shims but have never opened the box. I hope someone else will see the comment and help.
Did you mean 1/2 inch for larger torx. You alway need 911 tool .
My kits are 3/8 and 1/4 inch. no half inch tools, actually. I looked through all of my purchases and can't find any but you could be right.
