I went to see the stage show in Manchester at The Opera House. I still have the programme booklets filed away somewhere, and Wallace and Gromit's faces designed to look like theatrical masks on a white T shirt. One of the stand-out moments from the show was that the woman who played Feathers McGraw (I can't remember her name) did a spot of Irish step dancing as part of it; she was a member of an Irish dancing satire group called The Hairy Marys. I went to see the Wallace and Gromit stage show on my own, which was great. The show itself wasn't too bad at all.
TV show is ITV’s This Morning with Richard and Judy. The music in the ‘magic’ segment is the sand dance, made famous by Wilson, Keppel and Betty. Although more recently regularly performed by The Chuckle Brothers.
After seeing Wilson, Keppel and Betty perform in Berlin in 1935 Joseph Geobles branded them the most degenerate act ever, deporting and permanently banning them from the reich. They continued performing to the fifties with Wilson later managing the Patton brothers (The older brothers of the Chuckle Brothers although all four appeared in both acts at various times)
The found footage is amazing since it finally shows that something from the show is now viewable to the whole public, but I think I’d have to agree with what Nick Park said about how he wished the stage play had more of a story since from what we’ve seen, it doesn’t look very coherent. Anyways, great video as always buddy, keep up the great work!
I thought this was a nightmare? I saw a show with Wallace & Gromit. My dad and sister went with me and my mind remembered watching it but, I thought it was maybe a fever dream. Thank god someone found it. They did a tour around the UK because I saw it in the hall for Cornwall in Truro. I had the poster too
I saw it in Birmingham! Can you remember much from the show? I seem to remember some kind of contraption Wallace had made that made Gromit dance in different styles. I just remember Gromit wearing a tutu and dancing like a ballerina
@alexwells6876 I can remember them on top of a train chasing the penguin then Gromit getting shot. Then my mind is fuzzy. It was like the wrong trousers with the wool shop claymation in one show. Terrified me though

After posting one comment yesterday with some info I discovered, I found some more info about the production: - There is a record of the show in the Nottingham Theatre Royal archive (where the show was apparently performed in July 1997). The record (by Nottingham Theatre Royal researcher David Longford) mentions that apparently Nick Park and Peter Sallis appeared on stage during one of the curtain calls for the show. It was apparently rather telling about the reception of the show that Park and Sallis received a longer and more passionate applause than the show itself! - The set designer was Tom Piper, who went on to become an RSC associate designer, won an Olivier Award in 2009, and designed the Taylor Swift exhibit at the V&A in 2024. Considering that many archived reviews praise the set design over many of the other elements of the show, it is nice to know that he went on to greater success after this. His website credits mention he worked on the show in 1998!
Congratulations! The uploaded has decided to gift you the dvd to that holds the footage! Hope you’re excited! The dvd actually came from Facebook marketplace according to the uploader (I did ask)
This was the first stage show I ever saw as a kid. I found it terrifying. The only bits I remember is the penguin appearing at the top of the stage and gwendaline running from the back of the isles and her nose freaked me out. I remember the music being quite scary as well!

As a fellow Transformers reviewer often says when he doesn't want to be rude about something, "It's a thing that exists". And that'd all I have! I'm a bit jealous of you not knowing who Richard and Judy are! That was the original line up for Good Morning. They're married. Well, they were, then they weren't, I think they are again, it's a saga! The piece of music you refer to being in a Micky Mouse skit is a really famous bit of music from, I think, the late 1800's/early1900's. I've heard it so many times, usually in relation to someone, or something, from Egypt. I'll admit I tried to Shazam it, but no go. I'm pretty sure there are lyrics too, so I'll be wracking my brains all night trying to remember them! Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed! Yes they were a bit before my time, but I do recall seeing them on TV now that I've heard the names! As some have mentioned in the comments, I think "Streets of Cairo" is the original version of the song, but as you say, it's so old that there's been a million versions of it over time.
This is crazy how it's been found after so long!!!! I wonder how the guy got it, and what this "other lost Wallace and Gromit media" he says he has is 👀 Also, Feathers could've been a girl!??! That's kinda crazy to think about 😭😭✨️✨️ Amazing video as always!!! 😁🧀
I did some of my own research, and there is a quite interesting article from The Independent where they interview the actors and talk about the design rationale for the show (apparently they thought it would be less strange to take this approach than having the characters wear suits which actually resembled the characters!). I also did a bit of investigation into the actors involved, and it seems like a lot of them have physical theatre/clowning experience before taking on this show (The performer who played Wendolene recently worked on the National Theatre's production of 'The Importance of Being Earnest' as a physical comedy coach). Neither the actor who played Feathers or the actor I mentioned who played Wendolene (the only people I could find up to date info on) cite the show in their credits anymore, so maybe there is a good reason as to why the show was not revived multiple times like 'Thunderbirds F.A.B' (Although according to The Independent article, 'A Grand Night Out' was supposed to do a six to seven week run in London over the Christmas of 1997!)
Never thought I'd see the day. It's werid actually seeing a video after it's been a memory for so many years. I saw it in Birmingham, i remember bits and pieces. Hello, you seem like the go to guy to send the DVD to? In regards to other lost media I said I had, it’s only things like adverts, interviews, news reels, things like that. These live on stage shows have a frustrating ephemeral nature, and it makes us wish there were more footage available. I'd say Wallace and Gromit is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to these things. The Muppet Babies shows have been my white whale, especially since they used licensed music. Ease on Down the Road, Rock Me Amadeus, stuff like that. Not to mention the infamous Thundercats with Gumby and Pokey in there for some reason. Even some Disney on Ice ones just fell by the wayside because you'd have to smuggle a camcorder in. That said, this looks very simplistic, almost like low budget cosplay. I don't imagine they'd have big mascot suits with recorded dialogue like most other live shows, but this looks like something you'd see at a Children's Museum than something you'd have to buy tickets for.
What a find! I remember going to see this with my dad back in 1997/8, I was about 7 and we really enjoyed it, it was a great atmosphere but I don’t remember the story. ...Honestly I'm probably more confused by the existance of this now than I was before we had a clip of it... I'm of the view that finding lost media is always good, but by gods does the universe like challenging that assertion sometimes....
That's the internet for you, indeed. Lost media is a challenge these days rather than a sad statement of fact. Had no idea Richard and Judy discussed it. because that's This Morning, and you only saw it in those days if you were off sick from school, whereas you can easily record it now. Since that was the 90s I would never have thought that any recorded footage would ever be found or converted beyond the Blue Peter piece that I remember watching, because surely that would just have been taped over, right? That was a funny thing that you forget about and move on. But the internet does not move on. The infinite archive... I remember being excited at the time about the stage. They're real and in front of me! But as I say, quickly forgotten about. People being creeped out is as silly to me as the concept itself was then. But then I realised, it's all about context. We modern-ers look at this with our knowledge of what has gone before, with a multi-million, international franchise now behind us as opposed to a particularly UK and Ireland based little series, and go 'WRONG!' But this was of its time, it's effectively a panto, and of course it's going to be random elements tossed together, it's what we want. Do the penguin! Do the sheep! Do the rocket! If there was an original story, fans at the time and newspaper critics would have said it was not 'real' Wallace and Gromit. Bit like how people complain about filler in anime even though it's original content, so ought to be lapped up. People want what they fell in love with, not new rubbish. The Lenny Henry sketch was similar, that was a late night comedian taking the piss out of a family show by stuffing sex and violence into it, it's supposed to be creepy and jarring, so complaining about it being so makes no sense to me. Now that old W&G media is in my head, it's my turn to do the panto thing - Do Techno Quest! Do Bitman and Chip! Do Shallow Blue! 😄
It looks like circus clownery -- which can be funny, that sort of physical, mimed, comedy. Admittedly strikes me as some thing that wouldn't sustain a whole play. How long was it? Like the original shorts it was based off of were only half an hour, I struggle to see this getting to an hour.
See? Didn't I say it? Didn't I say those were the actual lord mayoral chains that my dad wore in the audience and Feathers took them away and Gromit got them back for him?
The presenters are Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan (aka Richard and Judy) and from what I can tell it’s a clip from This Morning.
Definitely This Morning as you can see it written on the card Judy is holding.

They had a short series called Richard and judy exclusive which was part of itv's "this morning"
Checking imdb episode guide seems to be a issue
"This morning" shows a gap between may and September
But Richard and judy exclusive mentions episode 38 aired july 16 1997
The poster on grand night out says they were doing the show from july 21st to 26th meaning this was aired week before the stage show started

U Should Make A Video About Vengeance Most Fowl Being An Oscar Nominee!!
I made a post announcing its nomination, but can't think of much more to be said beyond that...
There is a good reason it was lost. Its awful. Even if the video quality was better, it would still be weird. Live action W&G doesn't work.
Can't argue with that 😅
3:41 This Music Probably Came From The 1930 Mickey Mouse Short "Chain Gang"
I think it was "The Karnival Kid" I was thinking of, but the tune goes back even further.
It looks like circus clownery -- which can be funny, that sort of physical, mimed, comedy. Admittedly strikes me as some thing that wouldn't sustain a whole play. How long was it? Like the original shorts it was based off of were only half an hour, I struggle to see this getting to an hour.
I'm not sure if the runtime is known, but that's a good point!
I don't mind Feathers being a woman cause he doesn't speak.
The actress got the character of Feathers across pretty well!
I think they probably cast a woman so Feathers would be shorter than the others
Some of them are quite funny
As bizarre as it is, people did apparently find it quite amusing all those years ago.
What a weird show. I can't figure out what the plot is supposed to be.
Indeed. There's a writeup on it somewhere, though I'm not sure it makes the plot any clearer 😅
See? Didn't I say it? Didn't I say those were the actual lord mayoral chains that my dad wore in the audience and Feathers took them away and Gromit got them back for him?
How?
It was found on an old tape and uploaded to RUclips.
How's it worse than the other one
😆
Nani?
I think I would have preferred if it remained lost
Quite possibly... 😆
