- The town of Witcher, Oklahoma, named for landowner Daniel J. Witcher, once stood near the SE quadrant of the intersection of I-35 and I-44 South of 122nd Street. The last remaining old structure was lost when the entrance to Turner Turnpike (I-44) was re-done.

Thank you for posting about this cemetery. The Spanish style one is my father in law's grave site. My husband and his brothers worked very hard to make his site a special place for his family to visit him. I think it turned out beautiful! My in laws also have gone to cemetery to mow the lawn there and clean up cemetery. That is great that you are teaching your daughter about those fansinating places.
Your family has really created something special, unique and beautiful. I really loved what has been done for his memorial. It's always nice to see people that choose to honor their loved one and still care for the cemetery too. Thank you for doing that.

My dad is buried at Ft Gibson National Cemetery, so when I see someone who picks up a flag and puts it back in the ground, it warms my heart. Thank you.
It's the least we can do for people like your father. I have a lot of respect for veterans. I spend quite a bit of time uncovering their graves and placing flags on them. It means a lot to me. Thanks for watching and sharing about your father.
Hi Rhetty, What I loved about this video is it is showing how you are teaching your daughter respect for those souls who have passed on before and their graves. She is learning from a great dad. I learned about cemetery respect from my parents and grandfather, and my son learned it from me! Waving from a rainy day here in Michigan~
It's the best way to pass it on! All of my girls have been in a cemetery and taught to respect them. I've had them in several cleaning them up. I don't think the others enjoy it as much as this one does. She's my little adventurer. If the others are around then she isn't so much. I learned from my paternal grandmother so hopefully she will carry that on. Thanks for watching from Michigan! Hope you're not getting flooded!

It's good to get them out in all that when they are young. I have had them all out in cemeteries but she is the only one that really enjoys it as well as other little adventures. So nice to see your daughter with you. Brought back fond memories when I used to take my 3 sons with me when I would visit my parents and niece's graves. After their initial helping out taking care of the graves, they would wander off and play in the woods nearby collecting cat tails and then helping righting flags in the VA section. Now that they are grown, they've told me of visits they've made on their own to various friends (sadly) and relatives.
It's always sad losing friends and relatives. But when that happens and it's someone you truly care about I think it will probably open your eyes up on cemetery care. Especially if something isn't right. I learned from my paternal grandmother and I've tried to pass that down to my girls. I think my youngest who is in this video gets it for sure. The Canadian Valley News, Jones City, Oklahoma Friday August 18, 1905:
"A gloom was cast over the little town of Witcher and the whole east part of the county by the death of Daniel J. Witcher and his wife, which occurred Tuesday. Mrs. Witcher died on Tuesday afternoon and that night, Mr. Witcher passed away. The cause of their demise was typhoid fever. The funeral services of both were held Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows’ fraternity, of which order Mr. Witcher was a member. Burial was made in the cemetery two miles north of Witcher. Mr. Witcher was one of the best known farmers in the county and was an extensive land owner. His death and that of his estimable wife is mourned by all who know them."

@@RhettyforHistory I live in Ok. MI lost two children in the 1970's time period. They are buried at Castle, Ok. Where my first husband and I lived at the time period. Now my present husband and I- We lived at Blackwell Ok. from 1987 til 2014 moved to Tulsa to care for an ill father and now on our path way of life we moved back to Kay county. Where my husband and i and are raising twin grandchildren whom are 12. I love walking graveyards with my husband or any of the kids or grand kids or anyone else whom will walk and visit graves here. I will upright flowers when and if possible. I love the news bit you put on of Witcher Ok. I wish we could all pass news of blessings on to others of things as this. I work on Ancestry and Find A Grave and talk alot of the Ancesry things hoping as time goes by someone in my family will get interested of our kinship in the Oklahoma Hills or belong another beautiful graveyard to visit is Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park of Ponca City, Ok. It is such a beautiful place so cared for and the lady I spoke to in the office was such a blessing to speak with and she is quite helpful. Also I love the Find A Grave website. It is an online cemetery you can actual leave flowers for your loved ones. From an online computer visit.
Yes findagrave is awesome! There is a lot of information out there on it and I've used it a lot both in looking for someone and in entering information I have found. You're right about that. This would have been a country cemetery and it's probably been swallowed up by Oklahoma City growth over the last 20 or 30 years. I think it's neat to see where town names and street names etc come from. Thanks for watching!

I liked the statue of the child and dog sitting on a bench. You'd think that because there are older headstones in this cemetery that there would be more residents in it. A lot of baby deaths which is always tragic. If you're not careful your daughter will take over your you tube channel some day. Lol. She found a lot of interesting headstones. You should go to the Concho cemetary, it's the American Indian cemetary outside of El Reno ok. It has some of the most beautiful statues, and people leave their loved ones favorite things on the gravesite.
I've been out there before but it was before I did youtube and I was just taking photos. I do need to go back. Thanks for reminding me!

here in 5 years the stone can be completely covered in it.
Wow! That is quick! Some cemeteries are filled with it here and then others have very little if any at all. I guess everything has to be just right.

If this is your bag, you might consider visiting Oakwood in Austin. If you can plan your trip during spring to coincide with the blooming bluebonnets, that's a bonus with trip. It has it all.

You're so considerate to reply. This additional response is because the youth in your clip obviously shares your enthusiasm. I am Cherokee, and a longstanding tradition my family participates in every 3rd Saturday in May is called Decoration Day. If not for this appointed day, many gravesites would've been lost to the woods. These cemeteries are commonly reached by unpaved roads, sometimes through creeks, not over and above (as in bridged), are not well-known to anyone but relatives of the interred. These graveyards are still burying recently deceased. The plots are free of charge. The cemetery where my family is buried is named Chuculate. (Pronounced
CHOO kah layt) It's over 140 years old. There are many like it all throughout NE Oklahoma in Indian Territory, way out in the boondocks. Come up and meet "all us Indians". We'll tell you anything you want to know. (And probably much more.😁) Your introduction of a youngster to this element of life is going to keep her grounded (pardon the pun), and prepared for proper behavior at any funerals she attends in the future. And she will serve as ambassador of the subject to her age group, I'm certain.

My aunt was buried by the government unfortunely. She was not close to her family. I was the only one who would talk to her,however, she deserved her family to be there. Her daughter's comment when she told me of her passing was " oh, well ". When. Y mom passed neither came to pay any respect, I don't understand it Rhetty.
It's sad to see that happen but I know it does. Each of us are unique and each of us should be loved. We all have our faults but we all deserve that. May your aunt and your mother rest in peace. And at the very least they have you and now you have shared their memory so they have even more. Thank you for sharing with us all Nadia.

Yes I have but I have not made a video in there. I have made a couple about some famous people located on the grounds though.
That is very interesting place y’all ever visited down in southeastern Oklahoma robbers cave ? Lots of history there too and stories of the outlaws
I've been there but that was before RUclips. I definitely need to go back. We have so many interesting things here in Oklahoma.
And I took my kids to the cemeteries to look at the dates and stuff we also looked at the names and we wrote some down to trace them back to where they originally came from Germany scotland-england wherever it might be something you'd like to do with your daughter tracing back the family names
We've done a lot of that and much more. From set headstones, build fences, install flagpoles, edge, mow, unearth corner markers, unearth headstones to trim trees.
So let's not forget, one day we'll join them and perhaps someone else will come n check out our gravesites

Yes there were. Not exactly uncommon for some of those time periods. I would bet there are many more not marked.
