    Beautiful song. I am an Irishman, my father lived in Dinan for four years in his 20's during the early 1970's. I have been to Bretagne with him twice, i find it one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen, ancient megaliths, forests, music, the sea, beautiful people and food, castles and very old buildings still remain and nobody knocking them down, all of which i love. There are private bilingual schools all over Britanny now that teach in french and breton, pretty sure they have a few tens of thousands of students, so there will be a renewal of the breton language. However, it's important to note that only the western half of Britanny spoke Breton. The eastern half spoke a language called Gallo (a romance language) whose number of speakers as dropped as much as breton but that isn't having as much of a revival, there are a few courses in some schools to learn it but not a lot of people do it.

    • @SC-jq9og
      @SC-jq9og 4 года назад +34

      @Eru Clusivus yes, french speakers could understand a lot of gallo words, but gallo and french are more different than scots and english but you can still hear some traces of gallo in how some people speak here, especially old people, so maybe people who come from other parts of France would have a harder time understanding.
      Unfortunately when the french government created all the public schools, they banned all the regional languages from being spoken there so in a matter of 2 or 3 generations they almost completely wiped out most of these languages and dialects although they have gotten laxer and now authorise these languages to be taught ect, now that they aren't popular enough to be a problem.

      Yes, the 7 founding Saints of Brittany are mostly Welsh and Cornish origin , and in the Breton tradition, all Bretons must make once in their life the Tro Breiz a catholic pilgrimage of 600 kilometers of walk, the pilgrims visiting the relics of the seven founding saints of Brittany in their respective city.

I did read that in 2002, they switched to Wales. Do you know what sites they visited? I would image St Davids cathedral being one, but I know Llangyfelach church (Cyfelach and St David's church, Llangyfelach, Swansea to give it its proper title) is along the main route to more western parts of Wales and was founded by St David himself. I can't wait to visiting Wales and Cornwall, it's for soon .
      You must visit, if you come to Brittany in Carnoet the "Traoñienn ar Sent" the Valley of the Saints, the Valley will eventually include 1000 monumental granit statues 4 meters high representing the founding Saints of Brittany, today there are 170 statues , that incredible. i know it can seem very strange and disrespectful for americans to reconnect, but i hope to simply honor those who came before me and the people still in brittany. i feel very blessed and privileged to live in a time where i can research and know where my ancestry is tied to.

Everybody would be interested in talking about your culture, it doesn't matter whether you're from Tahiti or Toulouse, Brest or Ajaccio, Strasbourg or Fort-de-France. You're equally as interesting and you're as worthy as any other French citizen, equality is in our motto. We all have the same ID, we all have the same rights.
      French people are reluctant to talk about independence thought but independentists in France are often just nationalist that repeat independence without knowing what it implies and with no clear path to achieve it.
      But of course, you can continue to play the victim you poor exploited thing! You don't even bother to live in your own country as a true patriot to try to improve it, wether you consider your country to be Brittany or France. Emigrants, when it's not for work purpose should not complain about what's happening in the country they choose to left.
      Sidenote : An independent Brittany would most likely not be a monarchy, with modern time politics. It would most likely do quite the same as the region is doing right know, with roughly the same budget and laws modeled on French laws. The only true difference would be one more border on maps.

      The French Society and its Future
      by anonymous author
      Introduction
      1. The French Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the Breton race. They have greatly increased the life expectancy of those of us who live in advanced counties, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering, in the third world to physical suffering as well, and have inflicted severe damage to the natural world.
      The continued development of technology will worsen the situation, it will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world. It will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering, even in advanced countries.
