This was a fun TAS to watch. You'd think getting all the emeralds so early means you'll be exploiting Super Sonic... but no, you only do it once and that's in the one zone where it doesn't help you. And Sonic getting bored with the Casino Night boss is pretty funny.

Instead of Sonic just going super and flying along with Tails. The bad ending is more impactful because it solidifies Tails as Sonic's best buddy.

Beating all the bonus stages with a CPU Tails is one of my proudest achievements in this game. Funny to see how this TAS even relies on a Player 2 to dodge those explosives.
The special stages really only need memorization. If you are playing with Tails and a bomb is coming up and he has some rings you can jump earlier so he jumps in time.
Sometimes in Sonic 2, if you can time jumps or go through the bombs in a way, you don't take damage. I've encountered it with emulators and the actual Genesis
Considering all the craziness that's happening only after gaining all 7 emeralds, I guarantee this is just what happens when just holding them, not even using them intentionally.
Ok, at the end of casino zone I do like that sonic is just waiting there but this is the second time I saw that so it makes me wonder is it not possible for sonic to press the button skipping the Boss fight entirely?

In sonic 3 (& knuckles) you can fly with tails when sonic is player one, but you need a second controller. However Sonic 3 A.I.R gives you the abbility to do Tails Assist like in the mobile ports of Sonic 1 and 2 and also in Sonic Mania

You can’t fly tails in sonic 2. However, if you play the mobile port of sonic 2, press up, jump, and jump on tails.
