- I've been working on this on and off for a bit over a year. Had way more fun with it than I thought I would. There's actually way more depth to the special stages and routing to this run than I expected. I changed my emerald path a few times over the course of doing attempts, and changed strats in the special stages a few times as well. There's even some more faster strats in the special stages that I don't go for...yet, given the difficulty vs time save ratio gets pretty bad.
Anyway, happy to get a pretty nice run. HC2 and MG1 were my worst stages - they seldom go well, but I did lose significant amounts of time in both. Very happy with the time overall though.

Tl;dr: Everything is banned, even if slightly marginal.
Because I am using my own personal, and stricter ruleset for glitchless and not any community one, it would be silly to refer to this as a "World Record", but it is still the best time.

This run is timed in Real Time, as the routing elements of when to get emeralds make the Time Bonus relevant (i.e. If you ignored the Time Bonus it would be faster to skip the second emerald in AI1 and get it in HC2 instead. However, unlike in any% runs where "going slower to get a lower time bonus" is silly, in this case it is routing and should not be ignored)

As mentioned in the description, given I am using my own stricter ruleset for "Glitchless", I am not labelling this as a "WR", because really I would just be competing with myself, and I think that would be rather self indulgent. This is however, the best run (it's currently faster than the runs that use the more lax ruleset too)

As someone who grew up with S3&K, this is exactly how i would beat the game near daily. (Obviously not like THIS). But all emeralds, as fast as I could.

I greatly prefer glitchless. Screen wrapping is very boring when it's done so many times.

I love the absolute sheer disrespect in the special stages. A few of them I was just pissing myself laughing because the skill on show was insane! I've tried so often to jump over rows of red spheres and every time I die. Frankly, the whole thing is crazy and to have the stamina to put it together in a 70 minute run is equivalent to playing three of Beethoven's most complex piano sonatas back to back without any noticeable mistakes. Absolute artistry and shows off Sonic 3 & Knuckles at its best.

Glitchless are the most pleasant speedruns to watch to. They preserve the essence of the game as it was intended, time record at all costs is not everything.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is literally the greatest game of the mid 90s. As for the late 90s it's mostly Quake, Goldeneye and Turok 2 seeds of evil.
