Would love it if Jamie did more informational videos. Problem in the UK is that many people opt for "light" or "diet" products thinking they are healthier. Light yoghurts, 0% yoghurts, diet hummus etc. When in reality a lot of these "light" products are more loaded with sugar and other stuff that isn't good for you. Would be good to see someone who has such strong voice and influence explain why regular hummus isn't bad and actually has a lot of good fat rather than the "low fat" hummus. Why regular yoghurt in sensible amounts is not unhealthy... and stuff like that.
This is great Jamie! Great to see celebrity chefs showing the public that carbs is not evil. And that there are healthier swap outs BUT we can choose depending on the dishes we cook. You're the best!
my health tip: set a goal, eat the same food as you do, but in less size and exercise regularly 2-3 times a week! BOOM you just started to lose weight and became healthier! as you starts to lose weight you will find out that its really fun, since you will have more energy during the day, you will see results on your body and clothes size. as you do this you will try to eat more and more healthier since you wanna get the best results to achieve your goal! people try to make it sound as complicated as possible so they can sell you speciall treatments, supplement and gamechanging tips! eat right and exercise and you will get there! it will take time yes, but its never to late become healthier!
that's a good tip for losing weight. which in general, yes for someone can be healthier. but it wouldn't be healthier nutritionally. he's swapping out bad food for good. if your daily meal consists of greasy take away pizza, but you just eat less of it, you're not really making a lot of a healthy choice.
In our household we tend to do 3-4 parts white rice to 1 part brown or red rice. We would soften the brown or red rice in hot water for 30 minutes and then cook it together with the white rice. That way we can get some extra nutritional benefits without sacrificing the texture too much.
I only ever eat multi-grain loaf and multi-grain sour dough and on the odd occasion I eat white bread I don't like it, and most of the others I already do like the pasta and rice it truly makes a difference :)
I also add chopped sage or rosemary to my olive oil. Great on wheat toast! Knew it all but the mayo thing... i'd Love to get recipes for the sour cream and yogurt...gotta research this now... Thanks Jamie!
I agree about using white noodles for delicate sauces. And some brown noodles are very heavy, so I mix them 50%-50% yum! I also like the multi colored, green/spinach, orange/tomato, white pasta and will mix half whole wheat bread pasta to increase the fiber. Many blessings from sunny Arizona. 78/46f 🌞 today.
Thanks for this video, loved the tips, I personally swapped to brown bread for about a year ago and it's amazing, could you please do another video about tips for making healthy desserts, or what to swap sugar with .thanks .
I live in North America;; Canada better than US depending where you live but what Jaimie brandished over across the pond is artisanal quality. The Wonderbread stuff that is still ubiquitous even with whole grains sprinkled throughout served as pellets my sister and I threw at each other for fun. Sourdough has the advantage of fermentation, so if you buy your bread in north America and on a budget .. seriously.
Thanks for giving people options Jamie! It's always important that people understand there are alternatives to what we've been programmed to do. The amount of misinformation out here is incredible and people don't like being told that what they've been doing may not be the right thing for them, so thanks for being an informative and positive influence for as long as you have!
There is this super delicious mix I buy with red rice, brown rice, red quinoa, white quinoa, green lenses, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and buckwheat. Whenever I can, I use that
I just make these swaps without thinking now for feeding my family. I love these videos though I do click so fast when I see Jools cooking as I am a mum of 5 under 7 and love doing cooking videos on my channel. I'd love to see more on store cupboard essentials etc xx
Awesome tips! But the hardest thing for me is substituting sugar, since the only affordable one in my country is honey, but when baking it can change the texture of the final dish :/
My Top 5 Healthy tips: 1. Eat more organic leafy greens 2. Eat less bread, pasta, and starchy carbs 3. Do not drink soda or fruit drinks with real or fake sugar 4. Drink raw smoothies and juices 5. Exercise in short, intense workouts
Great video. I use a real mixture in my cooking depending on what recipe I am creating. I believe in a balanced diet and a bit of exercise does the trick pretty well to keep me healthy. I was waiting for the brown mayo but I was surprised with the yoghurt swap... nice!
I can do everything other than butter... not only do I ADORE the taste, you just need it in baking!! I doubt margarine is a much better option tho I have done it for my vegan flatmate... but, butter 😍
I can agree with 1, 3 and 5, but what I have to say about 2 and 4: I just don't like the taste of whole grain noodles, it is so intense that I just prefer the normal pasta. I recently tried substituding mayo with yoghurt when making coleslaw, but the problem was that it got to sour, so I would recommend mixing it instead of using either or
It’s all about making gradual little changes and swapouts that you can sustain! Although don’t exaggerate the benefits of dairy. For taste? -Not gonna argue. But for health? The food and gym industry are all on about yoghurt, quark, cottage cheese and whey for protein and calcium... Heavily overrated when there’s plenty of vegan options available without the downsides, almond, oats, hemp, pea, soy etc.
I absolutely love brown pasta. It's so tasty 🤤 Since my boyfriend introduced me to it, I've been literally *craving* brown pasta. Could eat it every day. ❤
Bread is a killer for me! It just sits on my stomach lol. Well....that and the serious amounts of cheese I put on it. Thanks for the tips Jamie, hopefully they will help me shift this paunch! 😂😂
Spelt bread has heaps less gluten and a different types of gluten, it's basically ancient wheat, gluten free bread is awesome but expensive after awhile Injust quit bread, pasta, and rice in lieu of buckwheat, quinoa, teff and flax seeds, and lots of salad and some fruit and nuts. I skip breakfast, have coffee with organic milk or coconut cream and honey, a red apple for lunch and a big salad for dinner, (16/8 intermittent fasting). I have abs now, have put on muscle and don't work out, it's cool.
If whole wheat flour, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, etc didn’t cost so freaking much then I’d buy more of it... I don’t know about the rest of the world but where I am in Eastern Canada, it’s literally twice the price or sometimes more!!
Great advice Jamie, any specific advice for someone who is wanting to start eating healthier and more colourful? As always love the videos, love the books, love you 😊
Just for everybody info. Brown bread or pasta will not help you lose weight as it doesn't contain any less calories, in most cases they have more calories per serving. However, there is no doubt it is healthier, just make sure you don't go eating a loaf of brown bread thinking its the same as two slices of white.
unless you go for 100% whole wheat, it's actually the same as white bread. Look out for that
6 лет назад
You cannot go for 100%, but it's much better if the bread has 70% rye and or whole wheat and 10-20% normal white. Also, it's really easy to find 100% whole grain pastas too.
There is actually no difference between white and normal brown bread, when it's not whole wheat. Brown bread is literally just white bread with food colouring to make it look darker, so people think it's healthier. It's only healthier, if you buy something with whole grains in it. You can even try it out at home. Spelt is always talked about being the healthy cousin of wheat - so the bread should be darker, we think. I baked a spelt bread (not whole grain) once and it was as white as any old white wheat bread. So, just because some bread is darker than the other, doesn't mean it's healthier.
This was great! All sensible ideas, though perhaps the most sensible move was having the suggestion that butter can be replaced at the end. I was on board right up until then. Sacrilege. 😂
There actually finding that organic Butter is actually really good for our bodies and can actually help us loose weight. Just don't eat too much of it just like olive oil.
Not to go super nerdy but the green in olive oil is probably from chloroplasts and not from polyfenol which usualy give veg's more purple colors? (Probably didnt spell the technical terms correct sorry)
Hello Jamie, or anyone, You know, with white basmati or jasmin rice, you need to rince it under cold water to remove the excess starch and dust... is it the same with brown rices?
Helo Jamie, I have seen your videos where you talk about the fermented flour. But, I have not heard it before. Could you explain me what kind of flour it is?
I can't stand wheat bread, it's like exercise, white bread till the day I die. Now wheat or brown pasta I'm fine with, I have no problem choosing it over the white, even with the longer cooking time, although my gut sometimes has a major disagreement with it!!
The rice...🤔 @jamieoliver try to change the white for wild red rice and you will never want your white one again with any dish. The taste of that with meat or with nuts ....pffff 1 million times better.
I like the non-preachy tips. Even following a couple already (re. rice and pasta) but have you had some work done, mate? Your eyes are looking very... open. If not, good job on ageing well! If so, compliments to the surgeon.
When you don’t rehears your segment you get this. Jamie the top chef taking about brown pasta, brown rise and a burned bread and talking like a borred teenager
Should you fry with butter? Olive Oil is not suitable for frying (at least not on high temperatures) but still has a higher smoke point than butter. Thus you can easily heat olive oil to the same temperature than butter without any problems.
You can fry with extra virgin oil, we all do it in France and Italy (where I'm from) but it's better raw. Fry with olive oil that's not extra virgin. And don't stir fry with olive oil.
Yes, you can. A lot of people will say that olive oil has a low smoke point compared to other sources of oil, which is true, but the difference is only around 30°C / 86°F. So frying is fine with olive oil, but when it comes to deep frying you'll want to use an oil that can keep a bit higher temperature, as you're going to be deep frying at a consistent temperate of around 200°C / 392°F which is the smoke point of most olive oil. Always be sure to buy a trusted brand of olive oil, so you aren't getting a product with mixed oils, which might have a lower smoke point. Also only add your olive oil to your pan when it's hot, so you get the Leidenfrost effect, which will prevent your food from sticking. This will also reduce the risk of getting the oil at a smoke point value, as the food you put in the pan immediately after, will cool the temperature of the oil down again.
ThisIsMyFullName frying is fine. I said don't "stir-fry" in olive oil which requires a much higher smoking point plus olive oil is too strong. You need a neutral oil for that. Yeah we fry everything in olive oil in Italy :-)
Like and agree with all but one of these, the Mayo, it's not that I wouldn't love to find an alternative for Mayo, because I do want one, but I'm lactose intolerant, so yogurt or sour cream are not an option for me... Any ideas?
Not gonna lie, after the brown bread, brown pasta and brown rice suggestions, I was fully expecting you'd recommend brown mayonnaise.

Alot of diet items have artificial sugar which can't be good for you.
Exactly not just UK

So basically just swap everything white to brown? 😅
That's what she said.
Also D
Yes, brown mayonaise.
Brown is better
Jamie's test kitchen is nicer than everyone's normal kitchen. Loved the tips though, thanks bud!

Thank you Jamie for you fantastic Food and best regards from Poland
I love the Indian yogurt salad dressings!
Hi Jamie. I love all of your cooking and I love all of your recipes. They help me out in the whip something up at the last minute times...
Awesome tips! But the hardest thing for me is substituting sugar, since the only affordable one in my country is honey, but when baking it can change the texture of the final dish :/
Another tip. You can also make a sause with both mayonnaise and yoghurt. A lot healthier than just mayonaise and still the mayonnaise flavor
My Top 5 Healthy tips:
1. Eat more organic leafy greens
2. Eat less bread, pasta, and starchy carbs
3. Do not drink soda or fruit drinks with real or fake sugar

Spelt pasta all the way. Best of both worlds taste wise and less gluten. More easily digested and has all the texture.
The best is swapping mayo for greek yogurt and it s fantastic with garlic and thyme and any flavoring
I can do everything other than butter... not only do I ADORE the taste, you just need it in baking!! I doubt margarine is a much better option tho I have done it for my vegan flatmate... but, butter 😍
Hi mayonnaise! 1 tablespoon. Added to a homemade bread. Yum
Thank you so much for such useful tips.

Well done Jamie, props to you for getting this information out there.
Omg 😳 I thought he was about to miss the catch... 😆 juggling involved 😂
I've made Carbonara with whole wheat pasta and coconut rice with brown rice. They taste equally good if you know how to work them
What a smart approach to: white pasta (rice) verses brown. Love it!
When Jamie speaks ... Karin listens. How do you like that ... :o)

I have eaten white rice in all my life and I'm doing ok!
Ghee instead of butter is great too
Ghee is just clarified butter!
Bread is a killer for me! It just sits on my stomach lol. Well....that and the serious amounts of cheese I put on it. Thanks for the tips Jamie, hopefully they will help me shift this paunch! 😂😂

Whole tomato
Cheese
Mayonnaise
Salt
Vinegar
Pepper
Chop and mix togeather makes a great snack enjoy
For some dishes I replace rice with rye - try it, just cook cracked rye like rice.
Thanks that's good to know!
Thanks for the mayonnaise swap out! I do the other four already. Is there a way to make the yogurt taste like mayo? Maybe lemon juice or vinegar?
there are plenty of videos on this, look it up
100g yoghurt, 1 egg yolk, a teaspoon (or less depending on your taste) of mustard and salt to your liking. :-)
ouichtan mustard is the acid, thanks
Jeff Ward you can still add a bit of vinegar if you want. It won't hurt.
mix sour cream and yoghurt together and it is pretty good
Really love this Video! Thanks Jamie!!!
Hi Jamie Happy Christmas & a happy New Year have a merry time with the kids xxx

It's easy: just avoid white wheat stuff, always go for whole grain. Also, Bulgur is even better than brown rice and it's ready in 10 minutes.

love u so much Jamie....
Brown bread - healthier, brown pasta - healthier, brown rice - healthier. Boy oh boy, my poops are getting healthier too.
I love your recipes and shows but I dropped all grains and feel much better from it. I look forward to more meat and veg!
Brown bread is so delicious
I can never get on board with brown pasta... it always messes with the flavour of the sauce

👍👍👍good info
I don't buy store bought Mayo. I always make my own in a food processor, it takes less then 5mins in a food proccesor.
To sum up: Switch to brown food. It all comes out brown anyways. Happy eating :D
brown rice in burritos is good
I didn't know that sour cream is healthier than mayonnaise, wow.
Just wondering..where's Kerryann? I miss her videos :(
The rice...🤔 @jamieoliver try to change the white for wild red rice and you will never want your white one again with any dish. The taste of that with meat or with nuts ....pffff 1 million times better.
Love you,Jamie Oliver-;)

should u fry with extra virgin olive oil tho?
Alex Thompson no :)
Any ideas?
