Nobody realizes how long a game like this takes I imagine he was putting his heart and soul into it unlike the challenge games when he spent like four to ten weeks and then released it

But he is somewhat active in developer community, few months ago he posted a comment when brackeys AKA the unity legend teacher made a video about his comeback and godot game engine videos. He's currently working on some game. He's been working on it almost daily for the whole two years, at least he clais so. So whatever it is it will be a BANGER.
He's currently working on a different game and has been since his last video. He's released some small teasers for it on his discord and continually says that it's almost done although with a project this big it could still be a while. Personally I think he should take all the time he needs to do great work, and probably the reason it's taken so long is burnout and feature creep.

I don't think it's possible to have watched Dani without knowing what karlson was, it felt like he mentioned wanting people to wish-list it in every video that wasn't directly about it
Like I don't know what is so difficult about understanding that any passion project, hell, any project ever, takes actual time to be completed, refined over and over again before it takes shape and finally become ready to be presented to the world. It's not even the first time this has happened, every axed project be it a game, a manga, etc. were simply abandoned by their own creator due to their community's pressure. "Those who forget history, or don't even know about it to begin with, are doomed to repeat it"
I doubt most of the people asking were trying to apply presssure. They were asking because they were curious and wanted to know a release date. But when you have thousands of people asking the same question, it can feel like pressure. No one is actually pressuring, but it’s a pressure to provide an answer to the question that you don’t have an answer to yet. Best thing to do is just give a vague generic response and otherwise ignore the question. If you really want to all out, im sure there’s google chrome plug-ins you can use to permanently filter out specific content so if you wanted to you could remove everytime someone asks a specific question and you’d never see it.

I never knew who Dani was until "Karlson" was mentioned (Found it on Steam). I thought it was another good indie game and I have been waiting patently for it. Until now I never heard of Dani or how popular he was. Now that his crazed fans drove him off makes it seem like it won't be finished. Which is seriously disappointing to me because it looked like a good game and I wanted to play it .I just hope he is working on in a workshop in the wilderness.

See what doesn't add up for me is I was playing Muck awhile back and had someone just force their way into my lobby and at first I was like ??? maybe guessed the code somehow and remade the lobby but then they joined again. Rushing game devs or any kind of content creator achieves nothing. If anything all it does is make the game less likely to be finished.
The only reason i have EVER actually stopped liking a dev for how long it took for them to update was with bee swarm where it was a yearly update that took him 8 months (6 months after the deadline) despite it being the same thing with new quests and then releasing a sh**y update after 6 months
And people expect devs to work at light speed, specially from game with big companies behind. Forgetting that just because they have a triple A company doesn't mean they have infinite budget.
I do upload videos of games I’m working on to youtube, but they’re just short clips and I never actually try to edit it into an actual video, it’s just stuff that keeps people updated on my progress. For that (probably), I never actually got a lot of views, and thank god for that. There’s times when I went on a month-long hiatus because of loss (don’t even THINK about it) and since everyone who really knew a lot about the games I work on are close friends, the support was enough to keep me going when I DID return, even I’m past a deadline I set for myself. The difference between having a small community and a big community is staggering, and not just because of the numbers.

Updating is probably just one of the things to show that they still care for a bit for the game. This is an assumption but like that's how it mostly goes for a roblox developer. They move on and roblox isn't even a good work to pay your goddamn bills. I would say roblox is just for beginner developers looking to make a game and then move out to seek to develop some kind of indie game outside of roblox.

i started learning how to use unreal engine because of him. he was a huge inspiration. and i feel for him. now that i have had hands on experience with development. i see how it takes in incredible amount of time making anything. so people saying "where is the game" "hurry up" i see how frustrating it can be and i don't really blame him for leaving.

It was so sad to me when this happened cause I was an original Dani fan who started watching him when he was in the early thousands of subs just cause I wanted to get better at coding and saw him as a random entertaining programmer who gave me useful tips. I was happy for him when he blew up so quickly and became the most popular programmer on RUclips for a bit and when he stopped posting it really made me sad cause bro taught me a lot about programming.

The Karlson demo is still one of my favorite games ever and I really want to see the final product, but I couldn’t possibly imagine sending such a sincere, funny person threats over it.

Dani is a HUGE inspiration for me, got me into making games, and not feeling bad about making mistakes. He made one of my personal favorite indie games, and I really hope he makes more games in the future.
I remeber wishlisting it the moment it was announced, and i checked every chrismas to see if it came out. He's still my favorite content creator since he got me into coding and IT and i finally have an internship at high school.

Reminds me of DM Dokuro. He's the former music guy for Terraria's Calamity mod. He, too, was cyber bullied because some members of the community thought he wasn't producing fast enough and eventually left the project entirely.

I remember watching Dani before he got super popular, and I always loved his videos for his editing style and also his games! When he said he started working on Karlson, I was even more excited because at that point there wasn’t really a game in that genre that was super good or exciting to play. And only until now, I had no idea how hungry his community was for Karlson, and I had no idea people were doing all that. It’s sad to see because Dani really is a great RUclipsr, and it must suck to have your own community sort of turn on you in a certain way.
There was a Reddit post about a month ago updating us on Dani’s situation. Apparently he’s all good and will be coming back at some point when he gets a lot of progress done on Karlson
I would love for these people to see just how hard it is to make a game let alone a functioning level, I guarantee they’d think they could do it better but not know what they’re doing once given the opportunity

And if they aren't making money from it then a lot of creators wouldn't be making content in the first place. Like I don't know what is so difficult about understanding that any passion project, hell, any project ever, takes actual time to be completed, refined over and over again before it takes shape and finally become ready to be presented to the world. It's not even the first time this has happened, every axed project be it a game, a manga, etc. were simply abandoned by their own creator due to their community's pressure.

I doubt most of the people asking were trying to apply presssure. They were asking because they were curious and wanted to know a release date.
But when you have thousands of people asking the same question, it can feel like pressure. No one is actually pressuring, but it’s a pressure to provide an answer to the question that you don’t have an answer to yet.
Best thing to do is just give a vague generic response and otherwise ignore the question. If you really want to all out, im sure there’s google chrome plug-ins you can use to permanently filter out specific content so if you wanted to you could remove everytime someone asks a specific question and you’d never see it.

It's possible he started to loathe working on the game because he knew the second he said anything, people would start it all over again. SO yeah, he was completely justified abandoning ya. He has no obligation to randos on the internet anyways. The only time he would have an obligation is if he released the game, and people bought it. THAT'S when he would have an obligation to work on it. Before then? nah.

I never knew who Dani was until "Karlson" was mentioned (Found it on Steam). I thought it was another good indie game and I have been waiting patently for it. Until now I never heard of Dani or how popular he was. Now that his crazed fans drove him off makes it seem like it won't be finished. Which is seriously disappointing to me because it looked like a good game and I wanted to play it .I just hope he is working on in a workshop in the wilderness.
No kidding, look at TF2, that took like 15 years to be developed and look at the impact it created.

See what doesn't add up for me is I was playing Muck awhile back and had someone just force their way into my lobby and at first I was like ??? maybe guessed the code somehow and remade the lobby but then they joined again. So I said screw it and started it, the dude just started spawning a crap ton of furnaces and asked "do you like my game?" to which I said yeah and then he asked if I had wishlisted his upcoming game Karlson....
I still have no clue but I actually just assumed it was Dani since after checking out his channel for a bit it just kinda seemed like the somewhat shitposty kind of thing he would do, but now I'm unsure lol

As a game dev myself, Some people dont appreciate the actual developers and legitimately think all game devving is simple.
The only reason i have EVER actually stopped liking a dev for how long it took for them to update was with bee swarm where it was a yearly update that took him 8 months (6 months after the deadline) despite it being the same thing with new quests and then releasing a sh**y update after 6 months
They really think gdscript is scratch 2.0
And people expect devs to work at light speed, specially from game with big companies behind. Forgetting that just because they have a triple A company doesn't mean they have infinite budget.
I do upload videos of games I’m working on to youtube, but they’re just short clips and I never actually try to edit it into an actual video, it’s just stuff that keeps people updated on my progress.
For that (probably), I never actually got a lot of views, and thank god for that. There’s times when I went on a month-long hiatus because of loss (don’t even THINK about it) and since everyone who really knew a lot about the games I work on are close friends, the support was enough to keep me going when I DID return, even I’m past a deadline I set for myself.
The difference between having a small community and a big community is staggering, and not just because of the numbers.

Updating is probably just one of the things to show that they still care for a bit for the game. This is an assumption but like that's how it mostly goes for a roblox developer. They move on and roblox isn't even a good work to pay your goddamn bills.
I would say roblox is just for beginner developers looking to make a game and then move out to seek to develop some kind of indie game outside of roblox.

It was so sad to me when this happened cause I was an original Dani fan who started watching him when he was in the early thousands of subs just cause I wanted to get better at coding and saw him as a random entertaining programmer who gave me useful tips. I was happy for him when he blew up so quickly and became the most popular programmer on RUclips for a bit and when he stopped posting it really made me sad cause bro taught me a lot about programming.

I didn’t know this happened, I was a huge Dani fan and was pretty sad when he stopped uploading, but just figured he was taking time to himself and maybe working on some other projects. Dani is a HUGE inspiration for me, got me into making games, and not feeling bad about making mistakes. He made one of my personal favorite indie games, and I really hope he makes more games in the future.
I remeber wishlisting it the moment it was announced, and i checked every chrismas to see if it came out. He's still my favorite content creator since he got me into coding and IT and i finally have an internship at high school.
Actually he posted a comment on his last video 2 weeks ago that he was working on something big. So he isn’t leaving soon at least. He’s always been notorious for not posting for years at a time and suddenly out of nowhere posting again.
I just hope he's alright, just taking time from social media and continuing his projects until he's ready to reveal it.

I remember watching Dani before he got super popular, and I always loved his videos for his editing style and also his games! When he said he started working on Karlson, I was even more excited because at that point there wasn’t really a game in that genre that was super good or exciting to play. And only until now, I had no idea how hungry his community was for Karlson, and I had no idea people were doing all that. It’s sad to see because Dani really is a great RUclipsr, and it must suck to have your own community sort of turn on you in a certain way.
