This video was pure therapy for all of us who get nasty comments from sad hams. I love amateur radio but the pretentious know-it-alls online are the worst. If you thought the local ham club was salty, RUclips and Facebook comments are exponentially worse.

Mike, FWIW, I quit using my radios due to large amount of Dunning-Kruger case studies on air. You're one of only 3 YT channels on ham I'll watch. You're doing a great job, love how you keep politics out of your vid's and you seem like a normal, genuine guy. Keep doing what you're doing, you're great at it. Best of wishes to you and yours.
My 1921 antique polished solid brass morse key is extremely offended that you are unable to take constructive criticism with a small grunt and a "Thankyou, Sir, can I please have another spanking?". LOL, you had me on the floor! Also, another RUclipsr I know recently posted a whole video showing how he gets offered product to review, but with a contract attached. He doesn't touch them. Keep up the honest good work.

I ran across a sad ham 30 years ago. He started out a little before me. He's still on the air today. Always complaining about the way things are on the air. How things are built. Yada Yada.
I really wish there was a Chrome extension that would detect sad ham comments and replace them with: “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

I actually read the comments on the 106 evaluation after watching that vid, and I was laughing reading them. I was thinking, did Mike go out with their sisters or something? The comments were so personal. Thx for the vids. And as Mike Myers in a SNL skit said, “If it’s not Scottish, it’s CRAP”.

I disagree with your evaluation of the radio. I have been a Extra Class FCC licensed Amateur Radio OPERATOR for 153 years. My original callsign was W1. That's right a 1x1. The radio has to be the best paperlog paperweight on the market! As I watch the sun setting in the basement window waiting on Mom to call that dinner is ready I have to end this comment by saying: "Keep the videos coming!!!" LOL!!! 153 years!! did you get that!! "I started CW on a hollow log in the South Pacific getting QSOs from neighboring islands!!"

Can I be serious for a moment!? One of the reasons that a manufacturer sends out product for review is that they NEED to know what faults a customer will find, so any reviewer who only gives good comments will not get many new products to play with and try and break! when I was in business, it was always nice to get a "Thank You", but even better to get constructive criticism, then I would understand what a probelm was it, thereby improving my product! BTW, if your shows are so bad, why do they watch until the end, or at least leave a thumbs down!! Keep up the good work! 73 Jim M7BXT

It never ceases to amaze me how "some people" cannot, will not and refuse to find any good in other people's efforts! I've been a licensed ham for 5 months and it doesn't really matter to anyone! Do you know what is worst than a Sad Ham? A Sad Ham that is an Admin of a ham Facebook group. Those are the worst. I’ve been banned from 4 groups just because I have a different opinion than the pack. So far 2 groups for the FX-4CR radio and 2 groups for the IC7610 radio. It’s “what they say” or you are out. Makes me so happy when they ban me because shows me that I should not be in such a crappy group. I hate damn censorship.

While I understand the irony of you commenting on this particular video, I can't emphasize enough that this is not the norm. Sure, there's some frequencies that are pretty out there, and some people, but for the most part it's pretty awesome. I'd have another tune around the bands if I were you. There's a lot of good going on. A lot of positivity. It's mostly just good conversations or someone working a pileup of callsigns trying to work as many stations from as many different areas as they can. It's science. What's not to love?

There's always one but in your case, a bunch. I liked your review of the G106. I'm willing to wait for them to iron it out. It's still at the top of my list, but I'm not in that big of a hurry. You talked, I laughed.

Mike, I've been a Ham since June of 1980, & I agree with you 10,000% that Radio (G106) is a load of crap. It is way worst than the X6100 when it first came out. At least the X6100 had great Audio & almost worked ok. it took TO and Ham Radio Dude, Plus the other hams to help fix the Firmware to make the X6100 radio a great radio. But the G106 has a bunch of Design Problems or they got a bunch of Bad IC chips. Keep up the "lousy work Mike".
Sad hams all have "perfect" radios and "perfect" modes. The atmosphere opens up for them, and bands stay perfect until they sign off!

If RUclips required you to take a test and have a license, then maybe these RUclipsrs could have their own hobby. By my estimation and point of view, most all these reviews, are nonsense. The operators have no experience in using equipment and they seem to have a very limited technical depth. They need to draw on some good experience in order to offer any useable advice, much less come to a useable conclusion. They all seem to be these WANNA-BE influencers. These are pointless boring and silly, more like reality TV then anything useful. If there some entertainment value? Open to discursion. The personalities all seem to be the same and if they put half the effort into learning how Ham Radio actually works as they do making snide comments against , wait for it, Their Viewers, then then maybe they could grow into some technical relevance. There is a serious lack of maturity and lack of proper guidance for anyone to expect growth, and that would take work and some serious learning. Case in point. I read an article from one of these guys entitled "Best POTA Antenna" the end conclusion the Stepper IR Crank Up. A $1200 + antenna that by his own admission takes 30 minutes to setup and 15 minutes to change bands. My whole cost for a POTA setup is less than the cost of these antenna including a 100 watt radio. I often get 100 QSO's an hour while in the park and my antenna is way less than $100. I spend less than 5 minutes getting the antenna on task. Back to my originally point. STOP paying attention o these Chowder heads on RUclips. Get yourself a good Elmer and a few Ham buddies and get out into the park and you will quickly see how useless RUclips actually is. Sorry to hear that, Mike. I am sure there is some advantage in having an EGO complex. You have 21K subscribers’ congratulations. POTA and the Hobby seems bigger than your small sliver of the universe. You should consider that, and I am not underestimating the role you play. It may be hard for you to believe, but there are plenty of Hams that have been operating outdoors for years. There have been plenty of events an opportunity for us to exercise our skills way before POTA or RUclips. I am happy for you seeing you have found a place in the hobby that you can exploit and make money. I had never even heard of you until you decided to trash your viewers. Maybe you could make an apology video and reassure your subscribers that they are the lifeblood of your success, vice the Sad Hams and other names you called them on your channel.
This is a dynamic hobby. Meaning every environment is different. Different antennas perform differently as much as the environments are vastly different. I.E. West Texas, Vice Florida. I have found that local hams have a better bead on what works well in their QTH then anyone else every could. Radios are the same way. Each one is different, how the Ham uses the radio and what exactly they are using it for differs. I.E. some hams are more comfortable in an ICOM menu vice a Yaesu menu system. So telling a ham a radio is bad or good is pointless. Each of their view and what they are using it is just as valid as anyone else’s point of view. The bonus is the shared experience. I tend to focus on what they like about the radio and what they are using for. A good example is the IC-705. I own on and using it on POTA shortly after it came out. I decided to wait until I have over 1000 QSO’s on it to make up my mind if it is worth taking to a park. There are some great features that I like and use on an activation and plenty of also ran features that are fairly useless. There are some flaws in the implementation that should be strengths, but that can be said for all radios. My personal preference will always be a 100watt FT-857. I get more done and have more fun with power.
The point of all of this is that ALL aspects of operations is some we can share as Hams. The good the bad, and the ugly. Attacking your viewers for their point of view may have some entertainment value for some of the chowderheads, but over all it seems to me, to be detrimental to your viewership. I respect any ham that gears up and heads out to the part. Their experience and end results has allot to offer anyone that might be capable of learning from them. RUclips itself has some utility, unfortunately it is full of dancing monkeys with little to perspective on reality that could be useful in the field. Ham Radio operators deserve more respect than you have offered them. Good luck with your channel.
