I’ve had this keyboard for over a year, and it’s very good, I’ve been playing video games for years and am not new to gaming, I may not know anything about keyboards but this feels great to use and the macros are perfect, also I feel like I should mention the ICUE software which works great and helps elevate this product. Overall 9/10 for the price

I actually prefer the feel and quieter sound of membrane keys.
Fight me, nerds.
Aldantler well I mean it’s preference so it’s fine if you like membrane keys
Is use red switches because they are similar to meme brand
@CakeBoi have you ever used a mechanical keyboard for more than 5 minutes? once you get used to mechanical switches, you'll absolutely hate membrane keys.
@stedmangg bruh “hate”? Pretty sure that’s not the right word mate
@@stedmangg not really
coming back to this review doing research for a new keyboard in 2020 and "send nud" is still one of my favorite jokes you've ever made.
>$49.99
>RGB
yeah this thing isn't mechanical.
The K55 series has always had membrane switches.
who the hell wants to play games with a "gaming keyboard" that doesn't have mechanical switches
For real, for $10 more you can get an azio mechanical keyboard.
don't those have Kailh switches though
Yes, they have Kailh switches, but they honestly don't feel that much different than Cherry MX.
Just started using this keyboard today. Love it! Has a really nice feel to it and the keys aren't annoying loud like a cheap one you'd pick up at Wal-mart. Money well spent! Also thank you for this video had no idea how to get the lighting to work the way I wanted!
My brother has this, and he loves it. I think this is one of the best if not the best membrane keyboard you can get right now. The keys don't feel that mushy, and the media buttons and macro keys I would imagine being a nice thing to have. It's membrane, but it's a really good price for a keyboard, especially if you're starting out with building a setup.
I was using the Razer Ornata keyboard, and got a K55, and I love it so much. It's so steathly and quiet.
I've been using mechanical keyboards for the past two years and honestly I'm starting to drift more towards membrane keyboards simply because of how they sound. It's a nice soft change from loud clicks.
why would you go backwards
@@Bum012 he commented this 4 years ago when mechs were insanely expensive
@@Bum012 Mechs have a habit of double clicking after a while, I have never had a membrane keyboard do it.
@@Bum012 cant speak for him but personally, with how diverse mechanical switches can be, I mostly prefer membrane. The only kind of switches I like are VERY smooth and linear ones. I absolutely cannot stand clicky, gritty, or bumpy switches.
@@ToxicTeemoOCE idk why but the keys of my membrane keyboard are harder to click when i first got it. Why?? (I cleaned it so its not that)
I still dont understand how or why people like mechanical keyboards. The sound they make is utterly and completely obnoxious if you ask me. I've pre-ordered the Corsair K55. Looking forward to getting it.
Yeah, I was in the same boat. I used to use the Corsair Raptor, an old membrane keyboard, and I loved it. However, once I bought a mechanical keyboard and used it as my primary board, I loved it and can't go back lol
The Corsair Strafe RGB Cherry MX Silent is a great medium. It has specially designed switches that make it sound on-par or even quieter than membrane keyboards; completely different sound compared to unsilenced switches. This keyboard performs just as well as a regular mechanical keyboard too. It's the keyboard I'm getting when I upgrade my setup.
I think many people doesn't like the sound either but likes that clicky feel
that's why cherry MX silent is there
Actually to true gamers, the sound is extremely orgasmic
Sure the clicky ones like blue switch are, but there are other switches that are linear and tactile without the click and do not make a lot of noise. Of you want even more silence pop on some dental bands on the caps. I would recommend Gateron linear switches of you ever decide to get into the game. Try it out!
Cheers
I have the K55 and I agree with everything you said with the exception of the tactile feel, I feel a very clear "click" feeling though its much more mushy than a mechanical. But I do feel the feedback enough that I know exactly when the key has been pressed.
Great review! I have had this keyboard for almost two weeks now and can assuredly say that it is a wonderful piece of gear! Especially for the price point! Some of us prefer membrane and want RGB, yo!
Your review and a couple of others helped to make the choice super easy!
This is hands down worth every penny! (I paid $47 from Best Buy. $53 w/2yr plan)
I haven't read far into the comments, so, sorry if this is covered:

Personally I'm looking for keyboards that do their jobs but are SILENT. If you got the time maybe you could do like a list your top3 of the most silent keyboards you've tested. Only mechanicals I've tried have been really noisy but it would be nice to see how a mechanical with current silent switches and O-rings compare with a good membrane keyboard.
Good job on the reviews, very straight-to-the-point, clear and professional 👍
Saw this review almost exactly a year ago. Bought this keyboard almost exactly a year ago. My k55 still functions like new and still is a great value. Thinking about buying another one or two bcus the value is insane.
Thanks for your review. I’m going to purchase this keyboard. I actually prefer that it has membrane keys as I like the quieter sound they make and I like the RGB lighting and other features this keyboard has and think it looks great too. Great for the price.

I've been using this keyboard for two years now and it's unbelievably good value for its price. And I actually really like the feedback and feel of the key pressing, even though its not mechanical.
how does it perform in terms of gaming
@@ilovecheesecake516 Still using it and I do game quite a lot, and I think it performs really well. Nothing bad to say about this keyboard.
do you still have it? is it skill good?
Sounds like it's really a great keyboard for an office if you're used to Corsair Keyboards at home. It's quiet and you can record marcros to boost productivity, all while looking like keyboard you are used to. I'm buying this for my home office to use while teleworking. Thanks!
I just bought this keyboard and surprisingly, the detachable wrist rest is pretty comfortable for even long periods of time. BTW great video and keep up the good work!

Had this for a year so far and I dont think I would ever want to switch back from this. This keyboard has a huge balance of everything for the price that it is for.
I just bought the k55 last night and i wanted to see if it was a good keyboard so thank you for the review
Awesome keyboard and quieter than most. I work as a programmer and having a membrane keyboard is my preference over a loud mechanical keyboard. Pros and cons for every situation though. great video and review.
Insane in the membrane 🤪cypress hill 🐸✨.90’s
This keyboard feels like butta. Idc if it's mechanical or not, it works and feels great.
Motovader72 Is it good for gaming?
@@eddy73 Yep. It's designed for it.
It's quiet as a mouse, but yet it has a very satisfying sound!
Do you know if it's USB
@@AcidOffTheGoop Yes it's a USB keyboard.
This was the first keyboard I ever purchased new, (got as a gift actually). It is a feature-complete solid keyboard with an amazing price tag. The membrane switches never bothered me, I actually liked them quite a bit. What made me switch up from this keyboard was its size. My shoulder wanted me to get a tenkeyless board. So I did. When switching to a Tkl-board with Kailh Reds the thing I missed was the macro-keys and dedicated media buttons. The RGB-was also nice to have and the on-board controls for the Macros and RGB-lighting were very intuitive. In summary, a great keyboard for a great price.
I've had this for a year now. It's held up great! Not mechanical but feels very satisfying to press and not too loud
the hand rest is the best part tbh
I had unlimited budget for keyboard and was initially thinking of a mechanical or silent mechanical from Razer, Corsair or Logitech. Managed to find a store where they had a massive variety out on display that you can use, some even connected to a running gaming PC to test on games like Doom.
I went in thinking I would walk out most likely with either a Razer mechanical or a Corsair silent mechanical (one of the most expensive models they currently have!) but after trying them extensively in the store I actually preferred the feel of the K55 which kind of took me by surprise.
Obviously what kind of keypress you like is 100% down to personal preference. I don't usually like membrane either, my old keyboard was a scissor switch (two metal pieces that slide down onto a rubber pad to dampen it) and indeed the other membranes I tried in the store I absolutely hated from Razer & Logitech. But the K55 has a much firmer feeling to it, it has the right pressure I desire and the right feeling when pressing it down. I really had the response in my fingers I desired for knowing I pressed a key which is crucial for games.
There were some mechanicals I liked but they are just so bloody noisy and would drive me nuts over time I think. Razer has a very nice silent mechanical (Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 with either Razer Orange or Razer Yellow depending on what keypress you prefer) and I almost bought it but the armrest is horrendous design! It is raised up rather than at a gradient, meaning you have solid plastic digging into your skin where you rest your wrist. While you have a soft cushion on your palms the wrist get horrendous plastic poking it.
I've noticed this a lot though with Razer. Each time I think hmm let me go out and buy a Razer because they look very nice and have a lot of hype around them, but then when I go to the store and actually try them I quickly find they always have a horrendous design flaw.
Similar to Apple's wireless mouse with the USB port on the bottom of the mouse so you can't charge and use at same time, Razer has some serious design oversights time and time again. I don't know how people put up with it...
PS: this review doesn't mention it but this is not a traditional membrane design in addition some keys that are used more frequent or are larger use a mechanical element such as a half scissor.
People here are rlly thinking getting a mechanical keyboard is gonna change their mediocre ass into s1mple lol.
i think they just like the sound lol
I own a 2/3 times more expensive "silent" mechanical keyboard corsair sells, i much prefer this k55. It feels better, and is way quieter. Truth is that most people wouldnt know its got membrane switches. And a mechanical keyboard indeed doesnt make anyone better at any game.
@@jonathansoko1085 hey thanks man! It helped
lmao
@@jonathansoko1085 Actually depends, the keyboard does a lot in a game, and it can help a lot depending on the way you play. For example, I couldn't speed bridge in Minecraft on my laptop, when I bought a keyboard, I got better almost instantly, so I think it does help to some extend, just my opinion though.
I've had the K55 for little over a year and it's quite nice. The travel, wrist rest, multimedia keys, dedicated brightness button are all A+.
How long is the USB wire?
just bought this keyboard and so far I love it
I love how you added the smashing your head on the keyboard sketch
Ok, usually this kind of humour doesn't register with me but that 'send nud' thing did make me chuckle.
I got this bad boy about 4-5 years ago, recently upgraded to a mechanical keeb and I love it way more, but if you personally don’t care for mechanical keebs then this bad boi will serve you well.
I’ve had a budget, knock-off, Cherry MX Blue switch keyboard for about a year. My opinion they get very annoying in competitive games, with alot of clicking. Thank you for this review. I am about to grab one of these and I am honestly very excited.
1:54 this is where I remember watching this part when I travel
this isnt mechanical but love the silent keys of this and feeling like typing. Very good keyboard for this price i like this more than razer blackwidow chroma. Not everyone want clicky loud keyboard
Red switches exist
@@andreiarg oh yeah

I liked this keyboard a lot more than the mechanicals I bought. I had to switch back to this keyboard after a couple of months and dont regret it.
1:49 HAHAHAHAHAHAH BEST MOMENT IN A VIDEO YET HAHAHAHA
Some people, including me, prefer membrane over mechanical. The fact that membrane switches are either pressed or not pressed is really nice in contrast to mechanical switches that have this in between thing. Membrane doesn't make any loud noise is nice too.
I am totally turned off by any mechanical just because of the loud sound so yeah! Membrane ftw!
@@h0ph1p13 I just wanna say that I got converted a couple years ago and am now in the process of building my own mechanical keyboard, haha. Times change :p
Give them a shot sometime, there’s a plethora of switches to match your taste. Silent ones too!
You can also mod it to dampen the sound even more and make it feel incredibly comfortable to type on.
I use a Corsair K95 Platinum XT for my home gaming computer, but for my work computer at the office, I bought the K55 several years ago and really like it. For an office environment, its really quiet and more interesting then the boring dell keyboards my company provides. Its really held up well in a busy office environment.
I just got this with a new computer. I use it for working at home and gaming. Its sort of mimics mechanical keyboards and feels great. Its also spill resistant and the price was great 65 CAD
Question to K55 owners:
I'm looking for a membrane keyboard that feels like a regular office keyboard in terms of key travel, the force used to press the keys and key spacing.
How close to that is the K55?
Thanks.
I've had the k55 for a year now and have no complaints so far. I am going to buy another for the hecc of it. This is a crazy deal. It's pretty similar to an office keyboard in regards to feeling. For me, comfort is just there. I would say the force to press the keys is in the higher median range now that I think about it. Still a very comfortable feel.
@@sierraevans520 Thanks for your input. The reason I asked is that I've got a mechanical keyboard and I cannot type on it. I end up pushing 2 keys at a time, and I accidentally press caps lock all the time. I can type on a regular office keyboard with no issues so I was looking for that but with rgb lighting and possibly some macro keys.
My only concern is that the key profile and layout looks similar to the mechanical keyboards. Any thoughts on that?
“Send nud”
😂😂😂 I love this keyboard
Corsair Cue works this one. I don't know didn't the support exist when product was launched, but quite many people just refer to keyboard how you can switch color and patterns.
You can do them also from Corsair Cue on 2018. I just few days ago bought this and pretty happy with it.
i just bought this keyboard and its really good so far.
me and my roommate are both into gaming and we both hate mechanical keyboards and would prefer to use a membrane one even if we don't have a roommate. the sound they generate gets annoying and disturbing over time. and they're cheaper! thanks for this review. looking forward to buying this one.
Zon X try out cherry mx red, brown, black, silent, or speed. They're pretty quiet not to mention a more satisfying typing experience.
I bought this keyboard, its pretty great! In fact that is what im using right now!
Liam Kelly me to 😀
How is it now? Any problems? Do u game?
mark muravyov I have the K55 and the only problem I have with it is that the keyspacing is a bit too big for me, but that’s just me.
same question. Has it worn out? Feel clammy? Any problems?
Ladicius not at all
i thought i had broken my keyboard in a rage, this guy just casually teaches me the ins and outs of my keyboard. thanks bro!
Love The Keybord Just Got It.
unpopular opinion:
i dislike mechanical keyboards.
too loud, even with headpones, plus i know when i press a key on membrane.
too used to membrane boards from 1997
Ladicius use speed switches or reds if u don’t like sound
Ladicius You could just use cherry MX silent and use noise cancelling headphones
