- Even the best wet shave can irritate the skin and cause razor burn or other discomforts. Fortunately we have natural and inexpensive products that prevent shaving related irritation. Witch Hazel and Alum should be in every wet shaver's medicine cabinet.

I use Dickenson Witch Hazel right after the shave because with the alcohol in it kills the germs. Try it in a spray bottle.... trust me you will love it applied that way. Thayers after the shower for a toner ............ and hydration. I like the Thayers Rose scent for the toner use. You are right on about the the Alum block as well. Kit DE SHAVE TALK with KIT

Very informative, thank you so much! I was just at Walmart looking at Witch Hazel, and did not know that the alum block served the same purpose, as I just ordered a block with my other shaving supplies, so I will use this method, and then buy Witch Hazel at a later date! Best Regards!

hello sir, many people have mentioned that Alum hepls to prevent irritation , but for me it causes irritation for many hours even after rinsing it off , I'm not sure if there are different types of alum and I'm using the wrong one or they are just the same and my skin just hates alum 😁
I'm the same way. I have to use witch hazel. Because aluminum coused irritation for me. Found that out by using it for deodorant. Because that's what natural community uses it as. Man my skin weeped for 3 days.

After a long work week (12.25hr shifts) Thursday when I got home & cleaned up I had a accident with shaving!
I only sport a mustache, have had a beard and goatee before but the last 7 years only a stace. Well, was very tired after work,dehydrated & sore. Got to shaving & SLIP!! Tool off part of my mustache, so I tried to even it up, nope, looked real bad, off with the whole thing! Big lip syndrome & a few red bumps, kind of sore.Luckily I had some witch hazel left in the cabinet!

Damn never seen them live but love there show. The holy grail was the only movie which gets funnier with every watch. I will have my Futur on Wednesday we will see how much of the potion I will be needing to apply to stop the bleeding.....Tis a flesh wound!!!!

Can you use alum ,rinse the alum and the apply thayers or would this be to irritating for the skin?
I'm not sure i it would be irritating. But as alum and witch hazel are disinfectants and help with razor burn, I don't see the point in using both every day. You might be better of using one or the other and top it with a moisturizing cream followed by cologne.
I use both .... first alum....leave on for a minute or so .... rinse off the alum then apply Dickenson's in a spray bottle .... wow is that cooling. let the Witch hazel dry on your face! Works wonderful....

The alumn block irritates my skin.
Do you use a natural deodorant - antiperspirant . I have tried to find something without the aluminum compound included . I have often wondered mankind has circumnavigated the global ,put man on the moon . And as of late claims the ability to create a genetically custom man . But to my knowledge can only find one potentially toxic method to stop bacteria and sweat from forming under the arms . If you know of an alternative to an aluminum based antiperspirant . I am all ears . I plan to give the alum a try both for saving and under the arms . Possibly combined with some other ingredients like baking soda and or coconut butter I will have to do a little looking to see which if any would accompany or marry with the alum best possibly. Although first I have to get the Alum in order to touch and feel test to get an idea .Ever consider a video on organisation and or classification of the household ? The reason I say this is because I have been going though a purge of a lot of stuff consolidating things down to the smallest compact method I could find . Briefly , A couple years back I started selling online Ebay etc even consignment stores n the area .So in my rookie 1st year or so If I seen something cheap that I thought had profit in it I brought it home and that lead to a storage unit etc . Fast forward to recently my wife wanted her house back . And I couldn't find anything to do project like tools etc . So I started giving away selling even getting store credit at a local owned thrift or second hand ACE H.W as I like to call it . Hindsight is truly 20/20 . For I look back and realize I jumped in over my head I would see and item search what it is listed for and thought that it would be profit . Little did I know somethings may sell for price x but it may be 3 years till it sells . I know am selective after learing about 15 to 20 categories of collectables & nieche products . And also know know what will sell fast and the profit margin on said product .Lastly I finally have an office or I would say an area with a desk tools and gun as well as a computer . And my wife has the rest of the house As always any advice tip's or info would be well received . Thank You and god Bless
