I think n900 i still one of the best phones i've owned. It has linux based operating system and also working multi tasking. Good phone. I liked the OS.
@Roborav I like the 21:9 phones, but I was refering to how the bezels are getting so small, that a 6" phone is as big as a 5.5" phone when people were saying phones are too big. I'm sure you can find a 5.5" bezel-less phone that's as small as a Z5 compact.
@Roborav They're a standard aspect ratio, 21:9 instead of the weird 18:9. It makes them better for watching movies and gaming. The design seems super on brand to me, I don't get what your talking about. (Plus they're smaller than you think, like I said earlier, these bezelless phones are TINY!) You have to remember, Sony is the same group of people who put a 4K screen in a phone a few years ago.
i am using @2010, and I am searching N900 bcoz @17th nov 2020 i've see in my google.photo directory N900 much screenshot of app gps name MAPPER etc :) Iam feel happy to remember it...
Mine is broken now, tried to have it repaired but it's really dead. I miss having the slide-out tactile keyboard here, it was amazing. If only they'd make an up-to-date phone around 6" with a slide-out keyboard and a stylus, they could take my money
Great memories, my last ever Nokia handset. (Before moving to the smartphone world) By today's standards yeh maybe dates but was such a great phone. Only sold it on eBay last year as I was so attached to it :-) multi tasking was a relatively new thing back then, it handles it pretty well.
i love the thorough review. i'm waiting for mine from amazon and i really can't wait to use it. this video still keeps me on drooling for this device. i hope they ship it asap...
Actually its multitasking capabilities are still better than modern smartphone flagships. It was only limited by its hardware and software polish, the philosophy of the software on the lower level is still unrivalled.
Best phone I had. Had some hardware defects like the USB port desoldering every 2 months or the gap between the screen and the keyboard, I wish they release another one optimized for Progressive web apps
Ive had this phone for 2 years now, I normally upgrade every year, last year I passed over the upgrade because nothing new could match the N900 for simple balls to the wall getting the job done. I can be browsing the FULL internet, keep it running in the back ground while streaming a video from another site and then sent a text and then make a call all at the same time and the phone wont even slow. I'm coming up to upgrade this year now and I cant honestly think of anything thats a huge step fwd
Yes, the most tabs I've had open at once is about 7, Then still could leave them in the back ground while sending texts. If you click a link that will take you to a new tab on your desktop computer it will do exactly the same on this phone and leave the original page running in the background. Many a time I've left a long video to stream on one tab while browsing facebook on the other, simply swapping between the two to see how its going. You can also connect it to any tv, & display them on that
"too big to ever be a phone." I wonder what they would think if they knew the sizes of phones today, like the note 20+. It's always funny watching older videos and seeing their sensibilities around phone designe.
Great time machine , back in 2010 my neighbour kid had this and it was first touch screen phone I’ve seen in that time it had a game don’t remember the name also it had Java games , two years after my father gifted me IPhone 4 and well that how I found we are going to in new era much love
Gladly Browsing: best web experience on ANY phone. I've used iPhones, android & Symbian but nothing comes close to N900! Talking: Typical Nokia, very clear and loud. Videos: Impressive media player, also supports practically any video codec! So you can just drag and drop files to the phone - no encoding needed. gps: quite accurate, also supports geotagging. No problems seen. internet radio: works perfectly from my experience. Comes pre-loaded with a few too. Overall, I'd recommend it! 8/10
Hey, I want to ask a question about N900: Does it have an app like the "Active Notes" on E72/N97 (note application with different font effects, colors, photos etc.)? I'm considering N900 or N97 mini, because they both have good keyboards and cameras, but I definitely need Active Notes or something similar.
i was torn between the n900 and Nexus one. Finally deciding to go with the Nexus for the Android OS and the smaller width but daaamn .. it was a hard choise :D
i read that the micro-usb port can break... then no charging off batteries, nor connection to laptop/pc. I am looking for an upgrade for my Nokia C5-00, have several options in mind (Nokia C6, E90, E52, E75, and the E7). i used some android devices, but after their micro-usb port broke, no use for them in the end. So, the same achiles heel happens with the N900..... Thats bad. Of the other phones i just mentioned, what do you consider the best ?
We did mention the swirling control in our written review. Don't have time to cover everything in the video. To read our full written review visit the link in the video description.
@Polpot12able depends on what carrier your on, the N900 can be on ATT or T-mobile, not verizon, but the 3g will only work on tmobile, but yo can still use edge on ATT. the Droid is only on verizon and can't be used on any other carrier in the US.
Landscape only at the moment, unless the application supports portrait (like the phone and contacts). Although Nokia have said a universal portrait mode will be heading out in a firmware update early 2010.
@longites i think it had, i used it for less than an hour and my interest was the software since the hardware is pretty much like other nokia high end phones
@07liberian I can keep going if you want - tell you what I'll end with a quote from a review I saw somewhere - "The HTC Desire is one of the most impressive phones of all time, it can match or beat everything that the iPhone does" Pretty much sums it up imo!!
I personally have become frustrated looking for a replacement, as the current gen seem more focused on funky little apps than anything truly useful, If youre after a phone where you can make your friends faces fat, then this isnt for you. But if you want a phone that can multitask and behaves more like a computer in your pocket then yes I would say buy it! It does things that my friends with Galaxy s2's and Iphone 4s have looked at in awe and said 'Why cant my do that??'
@Kevitivity because "they" are wrong. It's a PDA, but considering today's standards it would be more precise to call it a PDA oriented mobile computer with cellphone capabilities.
@Kevitivity The Google Chrome with Froyo (Android 2.2) loads flash video just about as well as a computer (if not as well) you should check it out my friend.
@07liberian very briefly...I like the extremely fast proccesor, everything is lightening quick, I like the apps from android market and the stability of the OS, never crashes or freezes like my other smartphones have..the web browser is the best ive ever used and the keyboard is way more accurate than the full qwerty on my N97. Screen size and resolution is superb too - all in all an immense phone.
@HiScoreKing i guess not, im in kenya, so they reached here late, many shops have the silly n97 and n96 phone, the slow cheap material phone, n86 and n85 are very rare to come by
I think n900 i still one of the best phones i've owned. It has linux based operating system and also working multi tasking. Good phone. I liked the OS.
This phone was from the future.
Just came back here to watch this in February, 2024. This phone was a beast. I totally enjoyed it. The downside was the horrible battery life.
A decade has passed Lisa and you continue to excel and evolve.
"This was too big to ever be a phone" back in the days when a phone with a 3.7 inch screen was considered big!
Absolutely right
Phones also have gotten a lot more slim since then. It's big in the fact it's a little bulky compared to nowadays. Even 2015 standards.
@Roborav And now they've all gotten smaller again!
@Roborav I like the 21:9 phones, but I was refering to how the bezels are getting so small, that a 6" phone is as big as a 5.5" phone when people were saying phones are too big. I'm sure you can find a 5.5" bezel-less phone that's as small as a Z5 compact.

after 6 years i found my nokia n900 today and charged it reminded me good days of 6 years ago of my life :(
same
Mine is broken now, tried to have it repaired but it's really dead. I miss having the slide-out tactile keyboard here, it was amazing. If only they'd make an up-to-date phone around 6" with a slide-out keyboard and a stylus, they could take my money
Me cry
How much it cost you?

it was a smarphone, smartphones are old. Their communicator line was smarphones
Why i am here in 2018😕
same....probably, too much internet for the day
Am i late??
@@evilpatrick9562 nah you're good
@@YuuB0t413 ok
because of maemo leste
After losing my Samsung S2, I bought this one. It was so good, such a good camera for the time.
this is the best phone review I ever saw on youtube. Good job.

"Too big to ever be a phone"
Oh, poor 2009 Lisa!
i love the thorough review. i'm waiting for mine from amazon and i really can't wait to use it. this video still keeps me on drooling for this device. i hope they ship it asap...
This was more "smart" than nowadays toyphones for banana-kids.
Stfu
Animu avatar. Of course, considering of your level XD
Actually its multitasking capabilities are still better than modern smartphone flagships. It was only limited by its hardware and software polish, the philosophy of the software on the lower level is still unrivalled.
Just look at how the map updates real time on the homescreen.
@stephenbell93 Yes, you can use the phone without a SIM card.

It can connect to the Internet via the cell data network or via WiFi.
nokia should remake this phone with 2018 specs + android !
They have made something similar for 2019. It's called the F(x)tec Pro 1 ruclips.net/video/mgA0953Db00/видео.html
@@tsdr6830 it's overpriced for the specs
Updated specs with MeeGo or Maemo 5 with Android Compatibility layer. Damn it will be killer.
Definitely not android. Symbian made it special and extra useful.
The moment she says the n800 is too big to ever be a phone
fast forward just..what, 3 years? we had the samsung galaxy note 1
Hi I'm from the future and now we have the fold
I loved this phone I remember playing room on it!!
You can change the background and even use your own graphics.
Watching this 2019.
Excellent review! Just wondering if the N900 can send picture messaging & also what is the daily battery use before it needs charging? Many thanks!
@NoImNot23 Nokia sold it direct, T-Mobile stores didn't carry it.
Miss my n900. Was very sophisticated
Considering its practically a mini laptop the size is not to bad. Have you actually held one? When I got it it was smaller than I thought.
if they bring back this one i will definitely buy it.
This hardware deign will never succeed today. But you can get one cheap on ebay if you keep looking.

which is the phone you compare to nokia n900? 4.00 m
Thanks =)
Is this phone worth buying atm ?
You guys are awesome. Thank you.
nice video. Can you tell me if I can change the interface to a light colored one. I really don't like black background with white text...
Try looking through the OVI store online, they might have what your looking for.
And yet over 90% of them still don't have the storage space that the N900 does. From that aspect it was WAY ahead of its time.
HTC have new model coming out in April 2010 (in the UK) , the Desire... looks good.
i miss old days :(
