i was a little skeptical when i got this phone but it quickly became my favorite phone. Im a bit of a techy so i got used to it quick. it runs great, never crashes, great interface, lots of space. its all out a great phone and i will enjoy it for a long time
@Oyindamoade i suggest you the most simple thing: if you have a new generation SIM Card, you can save all your contacts on the sim, by transfer the contacts and the contacts data into it. once your Sim Card has the contacts saved you just put it in another phone. but if you have the contacts saved on outlook, and wanna transfer them ion an n900, unfortunely outlook files are not accepted by N900 because on the N900 there is a different OS, and different client for mailing services. let me know
It'll give you a little flashing icon next to the signal/wifi indicator when an update is detected. or you can manually check in the application manager.
I don't now but I would say this phone is very logic and simple to use. Took me about 5min to understand it when I got it. And I love that its only in landscape witch means that when I flip the phone to portrait mode the phone application starts. One thing I hate with touch screen is the endless flipping between landscape portrait mode
watch this on 2015, still wonder why Nokia failed. The maemo OS looks great and they should work on it make it better smother. I still remember when using Symbian, which is very user friendly and powerful at that time. i still use Nokia 6120C as my backup phone, still working pretty smooth.
@Oyindamoade sorry man i misunderstood. to download your contacts from outlook on a windows mobile phone you should save your contacts from your computer and export it on a file. Then put the file on the windows phone and using it. but if you wanna transfer the outlook contacts on N900 i see it difficoult, or , at least, i dunno how to, since the os, and the mailing client is different.
@destynjr im fairly familiar with it........researched and read for months. no hands on use though. have u over clocked your n900? I figure with the update i will be happy with the device. But if there is a overclock that is for the most part safe i would go ahead an try it....if the benefits are worth it.
the feel, the slowmotion is a lot of parts & the faults it has. the first week it's sexy and hot, then you hear other people complain about it- and soon you'll find out to. I'm waiting for the phone to improve and to be re-done. It's a great idea, but it feels like a demo or sample.
@destynjr question.......does the n900 still handle flash content well? on youtube and other websites. i know it does not have flash 10.1.....im thinking about getting it (n95 8gb finally failed). until the first nokia meego device is released.
nice !! erm phonedog ? i was wondering which phone is better ? nokia n900 or nokia n9 ? because i making my purchase soon so i was wondering which of these phone good =)
in the us iphone is 3g on att&t and edge on t-moblie this nokia N900 is 3g on t-moblie and edge on att&t feels good to have it the other way around this time.
Noah, stop the hate already. As you said yourself; IT'S MEANT FOR GEEKS - which Nokia also stated. Geeks dont need userfriendly crapshitpoo thingies. IF we did, we would be "normal" people and NOT geeks ^^. Besides your Q_Q about userfriendlyness, the review was spot on! Keep it up, plox.
thats what i thought too, but my friend has the htc hd and once you load up your stuff and pesronalize it starts to lag. Trust me i wanna get the HTC HD2 too, currently have the 3GS and thats the only thing i can see myself upgrading to..
@asc3asc sorry, man i dunno much.... thanks for the info.... make as if u had to choose between the samsung, N900 and N8? well i know nothing abt them.... u tell me, which one is better.....
@TheDarkwatcher01........ Go for n900, i have used it for 2 months, it has better after sales service and resale price than droid, u can get it for rs 38000 in advance warranty, anywhere in pakistan, will be a little cheaper in quetta and karachi.
@mrgeeksucks it's a new OS based on Linux for mobile phones. There are allready a few groups, who got Ubuntu working on the N900, but it's not perfect yet.
nMIK-3 from talk maemo site: "1. MMS will not be available from the beginning, possible due to the Linux/WAP kernel issue. But I need a CLEAR answer if MMS will come in the near future or not."
Ways to make this phone better. 1. Make it thinner 2. Make it an android phone (maybe this step is also for all symbian nokia phones) 3. put capacitive buttons and a capacitive touch screen on it
@07liberian i agree the n900 can be transformed, but do you know how to get nadroid 1.5 or android 2.1 on it ? please reply man and give me a link or something, i want android .
Need ur help,,just bought my N900,,,when i go to my facebook i always have problem playing the video clip,it shows a massage ''pls update your flash player'' my phone is a maemo 5,how do i get to install the latest flash player so that i can play video clip on my facebook,,,pls advice,..also that what are deb files, how do i use it...help,
does this phone has a web cam?im traying to get a nice phone with a web cam to make video calls so if u guys know any phone with a web cam can u please tell me
hey dude i live in Pakistan nd there are no PHONES with contract here, im planing to BUY a smartphone so whether i should go for N900 or Motorola Droid......??
@Herssonisos1 I've been using the phone for 2 years now and it's less then ideal to game on. The keys on the keyboard are too small for quick reactions needed in most games, I speak out of experience.
@chillteddychill.. yes it will if u buy an unlocked one, but if u buy a locked one u will need to hack it, any mobile repair center can do at, it will cost u like 10 us dollars.
I like that kind of linux way to build OS, Android is basicly linux but it acts much more like windows. If the screen would be more smooth and respawnsable I would seriously consider to go with nokia insted of iPhone
in computers you are right, in phones i'm not sure :P for the 1 ghz phones they are using Snapdragons I can't wait until they root this new phones so we can use the full power of the 1 ghz phones (since they underclock phones to "save" power and to "make" batteries last longer.). The Nexus One is already rooted even before it is publicly released. lol. i'm guessing Google knows that rooting is good but since they don't want to get into legal troubles they won't make it root enabled by stock.
the Finns neglected the fact that alot of people would want this phone to have a capacitive touch screen. It's too cold in Finland so they decided to use resistive since most Finns wear gloves... I get that, but they should have released a local version (which is resistive) and an international version (which is capacitve). If they did this could've been big...
i have an htc touch pro 2 and to be honest this looks to have the same sort of problems, which is it can be a bit fiddly to use and nothing is instantly accessable, which is a pain on the day to day. But to be fair it is a very good phone. And this looks to be the same.
@TheRealAxelFury n900 i have been using from june and its the best i could ever get. . and i need more catalogues. cant think of changing it at all. . :}
Good review, been using mine for approx 4 months now. Overall, pretty disappointed in the N900. This is my one and only phone, I am in sales, and lots of things have left me frustrated - call quality not the best, touch screen is mediocre, bulky, no name display (big beef for me), no date display beside the time, mediocre media player, no equalizer for music player, flaky bluetooth, etc etc Plenty of positives (camera, memory, multitasking, etc)
@totallyfreak I think Nokia 900 is a better phone. I did a comparision and find Nokia 900 way better, though i dont own one,but i intend to buy. X10 is more of a Phone, while N900 is a computer. Yes, More apps in SE X10, but more utility in N900. Am going to buy one in a day or two.
@staRehTs well i say just wait out till the successor of the N900 comes out in Q1-2 of 2011. It's going to be better with the latest technology and such. This is a great phone none the less but it's aging. I personally just bought a milestone over the N900 because the milestone i got for $300 while if you buy this online it will be around 460-500 dollars. You'll be paying for old techno. So i'm just waiting for the Sucessor which i'm saving up on :)
my father is barely able to use a DVD player and he learned to use my n900 very quickly. is a phone that can be used by the average "105-110" IQ people, really, is freaking simple to use.
i was a little skeptical when i got this phone but it quickly became my favorite phone. Im a bit of a techy so i got used to it quick. it runs great, never crashes, great interface, lots of space. its all out a great phone and i will enjoy it for a long time

all the phones i owned this one was my favorite
@AppleProducts123 i would say it is becoz the iphone 4 drops calls and its drops your signal just because the way you hold it
watch this on 2015, still wonder why Nokia failed. The maemo OS looks great and they should work on it make it better smother.

i didn't like Noah before but now he is my favorite... I only trust him... good job Noah
@miro990 yeah I think. from all of the pics and videos ive seen it in when the keyboard isn't out it looked like it was still in landscape.
@destynjr im fairly familiar with it........researched and read for months. no hands on use though. have u over clocked your n900? I figure with the update i will be happy with the device. Cool phone. And surprisingly unbiased review, thanks.
thats what i thought too, but my friend has the htc hd and once you load up your stuff and pesronalize it starts to lag. Trust me i wanna get the HTC HD2 too, currently have the 3GS and thats the only thing i can see myself upgrading to..

well i know nothing abt them....
u tell me, which one is better.....
I have a doubt here, which one of these devices should I choose?
N900 or the Motorola Milestone / Droid?
Is this phone also good like for watching movies mp3 listen to music and all that stuff?
would you buy this or the Nexus one which is cheaper?
can you film in HD with this? im guessing not because you didnt mention it?
do you get to keep all the phones you review !?
hey noah have u ever noticed when the light hits ur head it gets really shiney
Does this have google play store? What app store does it have and can it film with flash?
Thanks.

I have this phone, brilliant device! Well worth getting.
how is the sound from the speakers.. is it better than a iphone?
@BaltoUAG
Good question.
nMIK-3 from talk maemo site:
"1. MMS will not be available from the beginning, possible due to the Linux/WAP kernel issue. But I need a CLEAR answer if MMS will come in the near future or not."
@TheStupidfunnyRican is the n900 is alittle bit laggy?
@07liberian yes its true, but it get to 900 mhz, hard to overlock it to 1ghz.
@BlackDreadBoy if yo arer with t-mobile look at the nexus one when it comes out in January i believe
can you watch HD videos on it ? and if you can does it lag? please reply :)
@AznIsolation its not random if you predict it
@nolosk8s I don't have any problem with mine!
Ways to make this phone better.
1. Make it thinner
2. Make it an android phone (maybe this step is also for all symbian nokia phones)
3. put capacitive buttons and a capacitive touch screen on it
so basicly making it any other android phone? no thanks.
yes, it would be popular because it would be nokias first android and the design of this phone is amazing!
.-Is it possible on this phone (Nokia N900) text and listen music at the same time...?
@07liberian i agree the n900 can be transformed, but do you know how to get nadroid 1.5 or android 2.1 on it ? please reply man and give me a link or something, i want android .

I'm guessing you have the iPhoney?
I had the N97 mini and prefer the N900 by miles! Maybe you should go back to a simpler N96 or E63..
is the screen always ''slided'' .?? cant explain..
do u guys agree with him that its hard to use, for the fact that there r no buttons on the screen????
can you video chat on this?
i have an n97 regular version, i'm thinking about getting this phone, but honestly i just don't know....
thats y they have the getting started video for new users,
i love how everytime he says "not to mention any names, but other smart phones" he is obviously talking about iPhone lol
@ShazOFilms yup
@mohammedthagafi Yeah, this is an old Nokia phone. Compare it with N8.
@apitapit123 Thanks... Yah I think I should get N900 because of the features...
this or the 3gs ?
@TheRealAxelFury n900 i have been using from june and its the best i could ever get. . and i need more catalogues.

@beautifulgooal in my opinion is better: voice is good and clear almost all the times.
music is good and clean also.

i dont normaly like pull down keyboards but this phone looks pretty nice
@TupacMakaveli1996 Expect it's not high end, at least with price tag.
my father is barely able to use a DVD player and he learned to use my n900 very quickly.
is a phone that can be used by the average "105-110" IQ people, really, is freaking simple to use.
.-Does it support MMS...?
@macojeda yes, i agree with you.. N8 is just a FUN Stuff made only to entertain.. but in-use? i do believe that n900 is like a pocket laptop... :)
this is my opinion but I quite like nokia s60s such as the E71 and E72.. I actually like them better than current blackberries.
This Phone its awesome!! is in its own league!!
the future of android everyone....BEHOLD WHAT NOKIA HAS MADE
finally they reviewed
