My goodness! This is the best video I have watched in a long time. There are so many tidbits and insights, from "Culture evolves, so should design systems" to "We can't take art out of design" and "Design is everywhere." Super amazing. Well done!
In as much as I learnt a lot from their conversation, I disagree with saying "modernization is westernized". Is like saying we cannot have a modern African design which isn't true. We can have African designs rooted in African culture & yet modern. The only thing that is affecting that is our lack of imagination & creativity.
@@AletileFelix-u8p I agree. One of the commentators had this stance, but was immediately refuted by other commentators. Modernization doesn’t have to be westernized and it can be seen in the lady’s (Ada) illustration of using Ankara materials from African origin to sew trousers. It this context, trousers are not necessary a westernized idea but only a matter of functionality.
The last guy talking towards the end of the video said sth about traveling to places to see and experience things and I resonate with that first hand. I did that recently with an African inclined identity project I worked on, funny enough I have been traveling for four years exploring this locations and I will leave you guys to be the judge of the outcome. All I can say is Chukwu (God) used me as a channel of some sort of expression on that project. We will be uploading it soon, it's called 'The Kulture Koven'.
They are arguing/comparing notes on what they said in their presentations, but somebody somewhere has written quotes and gone home before the event ended proper😂😂
