The first is actually just a tresillo rythm. The video explaining it best and deepest to my knowledge is "5 Rhythms That Changed My Life (Important Patterns for Ableton, FL Studio - Splice)". It really blew my mind. I just heard it everywhere after that :D Its really interesting, that Alex knows the pattern but not the name. To be honest Im not sure if thats a good or bad thing :D What do you think?
Incredible! I've always envied that last pattern of the bass including it's sound but I couldn't find it. Today you covered it effortlessly! You're the real goat
This is such an eye opening. It made me realize how important it is in the Production Process that will define the vibe of a song. How much the combination of choosing sound and rhythm can affects the song. Thank you Alex.
Most of the time i would only sketch the song into the daw but never really perfect the midis play around with rhythm, positions, did change velocity and swing though. Guess Mixing can only refine the good choices made during production.
Ok, this was mindblowing for me. The explanations of what a 1/8th and others mean really help demystifies and decompose what the heck is going behind all of this. Is there a retro synth style type of patterns deconstruction somewhere by any chance? This has become the favorite music style for working, exercising, parties, etc for me.
Your content is amazing; you have opened up many hidden doors and pathways heretofore not visible to me. I have been operating within a very limited 2D compositional construct for so long, that I become accustomed to only seeing a linear landscape; the hills and valleys were hiding everywhere in plain sight; thank you for bringing into focus the extra dimensions; your work and time is very much appreciated! 😊
How do you make those different tonalities? like at 3:02 at the start it sound slike a nomal bass but at the end it sounds different from that pattern.
Just some more tips for the beginner producers to help remember these:- 1) A dotted eighth note is the sum of lengths of three 16th notes. You can also add grooves to the dotted eights rhythms to get more organic and shuffled vibes. 2) 4:22 This type of bass pattern is also called rolling bass.
Tagging on to this: fifths and octaves almost always work if you want to add some melodic movement to the bass line. For anyone that doesn't know, the fifth is 7 steps up or 5 steps down from the root, and the octave is 12 in either direction.
EXACTLY what I needed today!! Thank you 🙌 I am good at stuff but for some reason really suck at bass patterns. Used to be a dancer so I know it's importance but haven't really had time to focus decoding what's actually fine till now. Thanks for making such an easy simple starting point!!🙌🤯❤️❤️
Gonna have to try a few of these out myself on some psychill tracks! I have a very hard time finding good in-depth tutorials and technical information on the genre but it's my passion so I don't care how long it takes me to get really good at producing it. You're videos have actually helped me out quite a bit though with some of the mixing aspects. Thanks for what you do, Alex.
Alex, I'm sitting in my truck. Blown away. Ppl honking, I don't care. Why is it this was just assumed knowledge ppl think we're supposed to already know? You have a new sub. Thank you very much for this video. Congrats on crossing 100k
yo daledo, congrats on the label release!!! I'm heavily considering giving the boot camp a shot, thanks for your input! I'll check out your music soon! :)
@@daledo4032 anytime! just listened to your drown remix, super groovy! amazing work, I loved the elements you used! you earned a save from me! 😁 also I LOVE the pictures on your spotify "about" section, especially the second one with the blue sky on the lake!
@@daledo4032 anytime!! I'm currently workshopping a lot of new stuff, I never established a presence but I'm working on that now. I don't really resonate with much of my old work (perfectionism and overthinking kind of hindered my workflow, resulting in a harddrive full of "unfinished" work). anything I really have is mostly unreleased. but now I'm getting into logic, starting from scratch, and actually incorporating my guitar skill into my music and song writing. my genres of interest range between alt/indie rock/pop, future bass, midwestern, bedroom-style production, and some Spanish classical and even metal influence. i also love noodling around with lofi. I'd love to connect somehow, I have an unreleased 3-track hip hop project I made with a friend i resonate with that I'd love to share. or even just to talk about production! do you have a preference on where we could connect? email? social platform?
FANTASTIC video. I'm so glad I clicked on this video. You've given me heaps to think about, especially making my sub bass more interesting. Also it's encouraging for me seeing the things I'm doing right!
@@AlexRome hey alex, um about to buy your preset packs. And i want to know whether there is a version issue of the serum to use those preset packs? for some presets, my version of serum says " these presets were made with a newer version of serum, update serum" like this...
Awesome. Seems so simple but not sure why it took me so long to figure it out. I just keep moving notes around not finding anything groovy at all despite applying all those complex swings and volume shapers.... definitely try to incorporate these techniques into my projects...
Good stuff, thank you. I do think on the first couple of examples the sidechain or ducking on the actual bass sound is contributing a lot to the feel of the line, suspect it would lose some of the offbeatness and feel without.
Hey everyone. These pattern videos do really well for my channel. What is it that you like so much about them? (reply here)
It’s really helpful information! As a beatboxer, I just listen to baseline patterns and throw them into my practice
Oh and the fact that you explain what you’re doing and working with such as measurements and whatnot is really awesome
inspiring !
I think it's the simplicity of the explanation. Seeing how you programme each bass note in is an amazing visual reference
this is everything we hear in modern electronic and pop music...but had no idea how to do...
This video solved the mystery
Gotta stop watching these before bed, makes me want to stay up and try them out.
Facts 🤣😂🤣😂
fuck it!
Lol facts!

That 1/8th note pattern is called a clave (cla-vay) pattern. It’s very popular in Latin music and acts as a really great driving force in music
Ever since using the Rolling Bass pattern, I've lost 15KG and my broken elbow was healed, THANKS ALEX!
