  • Visualizer/Mouthpiece study that really builds the embouchure. I'm a bit long-winded on this but felt that discussion needed to be had before introducing the study. WARNING...it will kick your butt and tax the chops. If you don't end up doing a little "Jake-Shake" by the end of this you've got chops of steel. Enjoy!

I dig this exercise. I don't have a visualizer, nor am I gonna cut up one of the very few mouthpieces I have access to out in Macedonia, so I'm gonna use my Denis Wick 1L. My problem is that I'm having a VERY hard time hitting that C2 with just the mouthpiece. Any suggestions? More air, probably, eh? Thanks! You're giving me lots to work with out here.

I should probably follow up that I'm playing on a 4 valve Cerveny helicon. It's new to me.

Hello Mr. Olka, thank you for this great video. Would you be able to tell me where I would be able to purchase a visualizer mouthpiece that I can plug in to the tuba?

I made mine from an old mouthpiece. Use a hack saw and cut away the cup, file it smooth, plug the backbone and you're finished. Good luck!

Where can I get a mouthpiece rim shown in the video like that?

    How can I get a "plug-in" visualizer?

Search tuba cutaway mouthpiece on Google. There are a few 3d printed options that can get the job done.
