Snagging sockeye on the Kenai (Russian, wherever) is quite the fun outing. In freshwater you have to use the “flossing” snagging technique, but next time give the salt water snagging in Seward a try. You can use a weighted treble hook and your limit is double (3 freshwater, 6 saltwater).
I remember going to Alaska in September when it was out of season so you would just spike them with a hook and land them that way, was just a cool experience to see them and hook them consistently

It’s not “snagging” it’s flossing fish. Yes there is a controversial views on this. It’s extremely popular in Alaska, I didn’t go this year just since I wasn’t the biggest fan and all. You bring a line across the water and a fish swims into the line by its mouth and gets a hook in the mouth, if you hook them anywhere else you have to release them. This type of fishing isn’t for fun, I’m doing this to bring food home!
