  • Found some un-edited footage that was in the "I will edit later pile" which I forgot about.
An average deep slow jigging session at Browns Mountain.
A mixed bag of fish, a massive 1m blue eye cod, small to medium sized gemfish and a big alfosino. Current was running about 2knots, luckily the wind was blowing in the same direction, but the drift was a bit short so it was difficult to fish the zone effectively. Water temp was approx 22C. We used Jigs 600-800g, but we found the 600g to be the winner this particular day. Ian had the most luck (we say luck but it’s actual skill, lucky fisho, lucky lucky fisho) today catching 90% of the fish while the captain and I struggled. He even managed to catch a frigate mackerel without using any hooks, bait or lure, just his braid line. It’s tail got wrapped around his line while dropping his lure. Unbelievable, but a very true story! We dropped into 12 mile on the way home and managed to land a few kings as a bonus.

Blue Eyed Cod are considered one of the best-eating fish. A good number of quality fish caught on the day. Unusual to see you fishing out of a boat. The underwater shots added to the video. I was unable to identify Browns Mountain but found 12 mile reef approximatyely 18 klms off Sydney. Current NSW (Newcastle) weather conditions are keeping me off the water. We live near the top of a hill & have no fear of being caught in flash floods etc. When (whenever) the weather settles I will launch the kayak on Lake Macquarie & hopefully catch a few quality fish. Thanks for sharing.

Blue eye cod is ok, not my favourite deep sea fish, it has texture very much like chicken. In my opinion there are much better eating species like ocean perch, alfonsino, pelagic armorhead and gemfish. Browns is approx 24 miles out from Sydney
