Hi fishing fanatics!
I grew up fishing with my dad since I was a kid, then soon forgot about this hobby during my teens and early adulthood and it was only recently I've rediscovered this lost passion of mine. I try to fish as much as I can and document my journey along the way. I have many videos to share, so much my family are sick of watching them.
I would say I'm a fishing addict, enough said.
I have a few years of fishing experience offshore (no boat though), inshore, harbour and only recently I purchased my first kayak a Hobie Outback 2019.

Shaol Bay Wharf is Another great spot to fish along Tomaree Head. Parking is available close by but is metered unfortunately. Location is easily accessible, safe and sheltered from the swell. Although you should check the wind forecast as it can get windy here.
Fishing the Shaol Bay Wharf is best done after hours as the area can get pretty busy due to the swimmers and kayakers. Bream, tailor, yakkas, whiting and pike are the most common species caught here. Oh and lets not forget the banjo shark and port jackson. Squid can also be caught here as well but there's a fair few weed beds around so you'll need to keep the jig head above th...

Filleting Goatfish for Sashimi and the BBQ
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Месяц назад
In all my years of fishing this is the first time catching and cooking a Goatfish. I can now understand why this is such a high valued and expensive fish. It has a sweet white flesh with hints of prawn and crab flavour, probably due their diet. This fish was gutted, scaled and all traces of blood inside were removed before dry aging in the fridge for 2 days. I ate this two ways, sashimi and coo...
Filleting Sergeant Baker aka Dragon Snapper
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Месяц назад
Sergeant Baker is generally considered an undesirable fish by many anglers so you don't see many people eating this due the number of bones. However this time I decided to give it a try as I make it a point to try a species atleast once and not be swayed by public opinion. This species has two sets of lateral pin bones running across it's body where as most fish general have only one. The bones...
Filleting Eastern Wirrah Cod

Filleting an Eastern Wirrah Cod. Aka old boots aka mother in law fish. A fish generally not welcomed by most fisherman but loved by a minority. Fish is very slimy and slippery which makes it difficult to handle and fillet. Wirrah have a firm flesh and thick skin, I suppose it possible to scale but I think it's much easier to skin instead. Update: Slipperiest sucker I've every worked on. I would...
Filleting Garfish a Better Way?

Trying different ways to fillet garfish. This in my opinion is a better way as you don't have to clean the guts out and the rib cage bones are removed in the process. Why is flathead fillets getting more and more expensive around $60kg now and up to $80 during festive seasons.
Hi Bradley does crap hooked on or grabbing the mesh bag while being pulled ?
If the swell is way beyond then would u consider side sick ?
Nice. May I ask what rod is that the blue coloured ?
It’s a really old slow pitch jigging rod Storm Adajo AJS631-1
@@bradleyseeto thanks. Did u install the Newport motor in the transom ?
Hey Bradley! I just wanted to say I love your videos, and the camera quality is amazing! I hope we get lots of new fish in your next videos. I'm curious to know how you cook those fish, would love to see a catch clean and cook!
Thanks for your feedback. Depending of the type of fish I would either steam, pan fry or batter in panko crumbs. But for snapper I simply steam and fry.
Excellent video. I have fished there using a pudding mix of grated tasty cheese, mashed frankfurters & plain flour mixed with water. I caught some big bream. A mate caught a Kingfish there years ago. I used a float with a centre pin reel & a 10' rod. Getting the dough to the right consistency has always been a challenge for me, however, prawns or bread work well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for dropping by! A kingfish would have been a great catch, did he land it? As for dough I just use plain flour and water. Simply add 1 heaped tablespoon of flour to 1 level tablespoon of water. I find this ratio works perfectly.
Thanks. I'll try float fishing from the Kayak in the lake. It should work well
No he didn't land it but it was a monster.
What a shame, would have been tough given there's so much structure around
Hi can i ask u some questions about thr kayak? Do u recommend your brand or any recommendations for kayak for inshore and offshore fishing ? I have a boat and interested in kayak fishing as well.
I have only ever owned one kayak and it's this brand and model which is a Hobie Outback 2019 model so I don't have a broad enough experience to recommend other brand or models. I am satisfied with my choice as I believe this kayak is very suitable for inshore and offshore fishing.
@@bradleyseeto i like the outback as well. thanks for your time !!
Very skillfully done but at over 4 mins it would take ages to fillet a good catch. Too slow for me I'm afraid.
Yea I’m not a pro when it comes to filleting I know only one speed at that’s slow
@@bradleyseeto But you do a really good job of it, so well worth the wait for a nice fish.
Thank you so much for these videos
Thanks
Great video mate. Is there anything in particular you do to dry age it or just leave it in the fridge. Really keen to try this. Thanks
I can't wait to do the same. Thanks
Good luck
what the hell
😂 yea I know
I would have 6 fish filleted in that amount of time
I’m sure you would have easily completed 6. Gotta start somewhere, I’ve improved a lot since this was published but just haven’t bothered to make an updated video.
Fascinating video. I always knew they had more bones than most other fish, but now I know where they are. Way too fiddley for me!
yea this fish is not for everyone due to the amount of bones
how does this compare with say tuna or kingfish sashimi?
It's clean firm tasting flesh compared to kingfish or tuna. It's definitely one of my favourites but just tricky to remove the skin is one pass sometimes.
Hmm ok.. I'll have to have a try this summer. Thanks!
Thanks mate picked a beautiful one up earlier this evening never ripped into one very helpful mate thank you 🙏
Glad it helped
Is your reel hooked to a standalone battery or cranking battery? Thanks.
Can be either, but the preference is stand alone battery as you don't want to risk flattening the crank battery, not unless you have the engine constantly on.
Ok i see this a lot even with pro chefs why scale the fish? why cut the head off? why gut the fish? just fillet with scales and head on then skin and section up
I used to always scale, gut and then fillet when I started fishing. But these days it really depends on how you plan to eat the fish. For example if you plan to dry age the fish for sashimi, it's usually done as a whole fish. So I scale, gut and leave in the fridge for a few days. Another benefit of doing this is when you're filleting you don't get scales, blood and gut juice all on the exposed flesh. If I plan to cook the fillets then just fillet the sucker with guts and scales on. Also the head of the fish is often used for fish soup or stock. So there is minimal wastage. There is no right and wrong way just different amounts of effort for what you want to achieve. This video was made many years ago and over time I have slowly changed my methods of processing fish.
brad you using pe1.7 for browns?
actually just saw it was pe2.5 👍
@@MrGavo1978 Pe 2.5 on the electric but I do bring the Ocea Jigger 2000 which is running pe1.7
@bradleyseeto nice - is manual winding a punish? Lol
That is the most complicated way to fillet flathead I've seen
Absolutely agree with you there, gotta start somewhere and experiment and then make improvements over time. I'm much better at it now, well I think I am! I just haven't bothered to make an updated video.
seems like a slippery one. good job.
Slipperiest sucker I've every worked on. Will try to remove the slime next time before filleting.
Nice fillet mate, I wish you much success and good fortune!
Thanks
You need a sharper knife my man
noted
for the slimy fish i will often rub them with salt and rinse them off and it removes most of the slime
Thanks for the tip
or just pour hot water on it for a few seconds
Great suggestion thanks
Love a bit of John Dory
Never tried John Dory but I’ve heard it’s better than Mirror Dory
@@bradleyseeto it is amazing, no fishy taste just perfect.
@@bradleyseetoGemfish are pretty tasty too. Got a nice catch mate.!
Sharpen your knife bro..... the rest is ok
Oh the knife is sharpened before any filleting session. The issue is the fish is so damn slippery even on this Hasegawa cutting board.
Is Daiwa LeoBritz S500J any good ? Do you think it can pack 600m of PE3? I use Saltiga Dura braid x8.
It's ok can't really fault it's my first electric reel so I don't have anything else to reference. I think it could fit 600m or PE3 but you would have to pack it on really tight.
How much line were you able to pack into your LeoBritz electric reel? PE 2.5 is very light for deep dropping?
About 600m from memory on the LeoBritz. If you're deep dropping with 2kg weights I wouldn't use pe 2.5. For jigging pe2.5 is more than acceptable, I have also used pe 1.7 on the Ocea Jigger 2000 without issues paired with 600-700g jigs. The advantage of running such light line is the minimal resistance compared to thicker line and its able to maintain a more vertical position which prides better contact feel
Is this reel any good?
Excellent. Your mastery of the blade is borne out by the results.
Thanks, I wouldn't say I have mastered it but slowly improving with practice. Recording this helps me remind myself what to do and what not to do.
Wow, i never knew about this style of fishing and now i am hook. Is the any Facebook groups i should join to learn more? I am in Sydney. I want to give it a try. Nige
Thanks for dropping by. There is a FB group but it's not very active, called "Deep Jigging Australia"
Do you have a lithium battery if so what size and pound your moter can you show me how your got it set up mate
I have a lithium battery which comes with the motor, It's a Torqeedo Ultralight 403 electric motor which is equivalent to 1Hp. It doesn't state what pound thrust but the battery will last all day on water depending on how hard you push the motor. At half throttle I'm already at 75% top speed, so going full throttle will only get you a fraction more speed which isn't worth it.
I just got one today 55.4 cm . The same spot and kayak fishing too
Well done, what other fish did you manage to catch?
Love the videos mate.
Thanks
Great fight. Where do you launch your kayak? Cheers
North Harbour Sailing Club. But I've been told you can also do a beach launch at Forty Baskets Beach but haven't tried as my kayak is a bit too heavy to drag over sand.
@@bradleyseeto thanks. I once launch mine at Little Manly beach and there is a boat ramp there.
🙏🙏
Nice vids bro! Just followed the channel ❤ have a peak at some of our content from Auckland nz 😊
Thanks
The devilish will Die as its swim ladder was wrecked from the rapid ascent to shallow water
We will never know if it survived or died from barotrauma, either way it was returned as quickly as possible.
😂 nice catch
Nice video mate. That swell looks fierce, do you take anything for seasickness when you go out?
yea that particular day was pretty sloppy. No I don't take anything as I got my sea legs when I was a kid fishing with my dad. Lots of fond memories throwing up over the side of the boat!
@@bradleyseeto 🤣 oh yes, I don't throw up anymore thankfully.... the rough stuff just makes me nauseous till I get back on land
Also what rod is that your useing
Storm Adajo AJS631-1. It's just a boat slow jigging rod
Another great session your mate in the native I see he's got boondox I've just got a set yet to put on the pa14 does he like them also do you have a moter on your rear yak and what battery do you guys use
I also have the boondox and loved it until the weight got too much and started to bulge underload. So I have retired it and now using the railblaza c-tug R. You probably don't want to hear this but I personally wouldn't use it, not unless you are really careful with how much weight is placed on it. I even created a larger custom backing plate to fit into the kayak to spread the load but even then it just couldn't handle it. So it was safer just to convert over to the c-tug r and not have any worries. Hobie really need to start innovating as the scupper carts were great at the time, now everyone carries a lot more gear and you'll see more scupper cracks in the forums. The horizontal bar on the ctug R does a great job in distributing the load. I have a torqeedo 403 electric motor which came with a large battery that will last all day if you don't go full throttle constantly. Expensive unit but I can't see myself fishing without it.
epic session legend, what were you using as bait?
live yakka and herring/pilchards
mubarak mubarak mubarak....
Nice video Bradley, how do you strap your rods on a kayak, what leash do you use thanks
I use these straps share.temu.com/dsD3jjXGyIA
ALR thanks, but whee do you hook the clip onto the rod
@@srduckyoce1084ahh yes I use a thin Velcro strap prob about 1cm wide and wrap a stainless steel key ring around the rod. I make sure the Velcro isn’t on too tight to allow it to slide up and down the rod butt. Also make sure you have atleast one wrap around the rod before securing the key ring to avoid scratches.
Nice work mate! What assist hooks are you running on the 60g jig pls?
1/0 hooks
Nice. What was the swell height and sec apart ?
Unfortunately I won't be able to remember this! My guess less than 1m.
@@bradleyseeto allgood bro. Keen to give it a crack offshore that’s all haha
Nice video Bradley, what rod do you use with the certate?
It's a Storm Adajo PE1 slow jigging rod. It's an old model which isn't made anymore.
What a great time out there. Looks like fun. Do you catch live squid up there as well? And lures and jigs. Well done.
Yes squid can be caught, but not consistently
Were did you launch from what area is that what pound line are you useing there
oh wow please atleast take me out to dinner first! :)
@bradleyseeto ok dinner first then your secret spots haha
Nice catch bro.. are the kings around in the winter?
Wow. You are good at that. What’s your favourite weight and shape of jig? I can catch them on live squid but yet to find one to take my jig. I have tried squidtrex and a flutter jig. I also fish the eastern side of the spit bridge. Any help would be much appreciated from a master 🤙👊
Thanks but I wouldn't call myself good, just lucky sometimes. Firstly you need to find the fish on the sounder and they try various lures. For vertical jigging I'm just using a 150g lure and just pause every so often. They can be found sometimes hanging in shallow waters 12-15m so you don't need to jig that fast. If they don't take the vertical, I'll switch to slow jigs. When they are picky they'll only take live squid or cuttlefish.
Awesome. Do you come through the bridge sometimes or just stay on the up side ?😂
more wrecks to explore on the upside
Nope
