- Ruhal Ahmed was detained without trial by the US government in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. He told us about the abuse and torture he experienced, and how he was eventually flown back to the UK in 2004 and released the next day without charges.

I wouldn't fault this man if he hated the US because of this ordeal but good on him for being able to live his life and raise a family.

I can only imagine the horror of his 2.5 years in captivity. I was kidnapped and spent only two weeks in hell, I cannot imagine 2.5 years. Best of luck to him....
The wife part lost me at the end. During the interview he said he was single no attachments etc but when he was liberated he chose to make his first phone call to the wife - what wife? He also had a sollicitor? When did he have time to find a wife and a sollicitor and get married before ending up in that room? I'm sorry he was treated the way he was and there's a fair chance he may have been innocent but some things just don't add up, probably because he left out a lot of details and the interviewer failed to ask more specific questions.
It sounds to me like he just is no longer married, but yeah interviewer did not do a good job with that one.
He said he married his wife 20 days after he was released, and that she was here.... Meaning in the studio with them.
He also said he went to Pakistan for his friends wedding, then at the end when he got back to England describes how his dad was crying but angry at the same time “why did you go this and that”
Mr. Ahmed's story was indeed extraordinary and humbling. I think that tells by how strong of a reaction he has gained with the audience. His tone and body language and story holds a mirror up to our society and makes us uncomfortable, as it should. I hope we hear more from Mr. Ahmed, we won't get access these kind of experiences very often. Wishing him continued strength and healing.
I am Muslim and have the full truth being told here. May Allah maalf me if my instict is wrong. I do not hear these kids calling their parents on day one, so that they can be rescued. I hear being free to roam, so as a 17 year old, the first thing is to call my parents! Also, they said they slept into the mosque as they did not have much money and now there is payment money for transport deep into this country.

Thank you Ladbible for interviewing one of the Tipton 3, I’ve watched the Road to Guantanamo film many years ago, very interesting film which tells the story about the Tipton 3
So i read a book called “The Exile” which was first hand accounts and stories from Taliban and Al Quaida relatives and everything this guy is saying is true except for the fact that he went their to help the Taliban fight the US , he was not swindled , there was no wedding, he knowingly went to fight. Also notice how through out his story at no point did he ever mention trying to call his parents. Any 17 year old that goes on any type of vacation, holiday, or just trips is always in constant communication with their parents. The first thing any 17 year old would have done had they been “Swindled” would have been to call THEIR PARENTS!! This dude is a liar and deserves what happend to him.

He keeps saying " if I remember" - dude, they made a movie about this!. I feel bad for the guy, but I don't think he is or was honest about so many things when this happened. I watched the movie maybe 10 times back in the day, and thought his story was bs to a large extent. He remembers every single thing and where he was, and why. Made a huge mistake, but clearly being deceptive.

Even if he's not telling 100% truth, did he still deserve the horrific torture, abuse, humiliation, degradation and deprivation of freedom? It says a lot about the people commenting that they are more concerned about some porkies he might be telling rather than being outraged at the inhumane, barbaric, evil treatment by the "civilised" white torturers.

I do think he went to Afghanistan to fight.. I struggle to comprehend how 4 lads can get themselves caught up in such a state without their families intervening. As someone who comes from a south Asian background your family are very much a big part of most events in your life, esp travelling at a young age to that part of the world post 9/11. However he was proven innocent and illegally detained by the US. That fact won’t change despite his initial intentions for his travels

@ 3:50 to 4:18 He clearly states that there were rallies in Pakistan (where he was at that time) to support the Afghan people because "the war has kicked off." Then 5:07 to :5:20 as they get into Afghanistan from Pakistan he says he hears explosions and he said, "What's going on." and they said, "There is a war." He said, "Yeah I know there is a war." He 100% knew what he was doing. Go back and listen again.

@@nathanmcgowan659 I'm a Pakistani living in Pakistan and before 9-11 many common Pakistanis could easily get into Afghanistan because the Pakistani military had allowed it. that was actually backed by America but the our military gave reason to Pakistani people that Afghanis are our brothers, they were encouraging common to go and do serve in Afghanistan and many common people did. they helped taliban along with Americans.
Six days without water would normally kill an average person.
Three days would under normal conditions. You couldn't survive even that much in arid conditions.

Did he say he got married 20 days after his return to the U.K.? He should have been in the hospital, getting treated. And when he is talking about how his life is so busy he says 'This wife needs that, this wife needs that' with a weird smile which I think he means he has two wives which I found very weird. There are so many things does not add up. I am no expert but if someone was not allowed to walk over 2 years, I am sure it would take them months to walk properly again.

I watched it from start to finish, not once did he mention he visited Bangladesh prior to Afghanistan, it was Pakistan, then they ended up going to Afghan to do charity work in October when America was bombing the shit out of afghans, many aid orgs were in the ground, the Tipton 3 wanted to play their part but little did they know Northern Alliance and America are already on the ground and taking everyone prisoner regardless if you’re innocent.

This story has a lot of controversy. To be honest I don’t feel enough was explored about why he went Afghanistan. He was in trouble in the Uk then diverted from a bucks so easily to the Afghan conflict. To be honest as awful as the treatment was I feel like it was actually an amazing turning point for his life, which has given him a new path. No one should go through torture in anyway. I am glad that he can have a fresh start with his family and I hope that his empathy for those who have taken a different path does not deflect him from living a positive life for him and his family

he was then taken straight to the uk and interviewed in the police station, he went no comment and was released immediately 😮 I don’t think he was or is a danger to the uk but he easily could of been 🤔

We are a severely flawed country who believes that we are the all-knowing superpower, yet history has shown the world that we are a feral scared lost nation. I am disgusted by the actions of our military and the Guantanamo complex.

Has others have a said there appears to be many inconsistencies here.
1. The call to his wife (this could have just meant his now wife)
2. The no comment interview would of had to have been advised by a solicitor. Even if he wanted to scream from the rooftops his innocence it may have been the best thing for him to do a no comment legally.
3. 9/11 was the biggest news in the world at that time. I was also 20 years old and I remember protests in Pakistan on TV and burning of the US flag etc. No way he didnt know much about it.
4. The time to confess. I am not doubting the torture he went through as he was specific on this. However he is extremely tough if it took 1 and a half years for him to confess. I would think most people would crack after the first round of torture.
5. He mentions the americans telling him he was at a rally with Muhammad Atta in 2011. Muhammad Atta was a terrorist who was killed in the 9/11 operation so the date is wrong. It would have had to have been before he died.
6. If he had community service and they dont know if its 1st of august of the 8th of Jan. 150 hours at 8 hours a week means he would of finished his community service between these dates. as would of been done in 5 months tops.
7. He says most people were innocent there. Maybe that was what they were claiming but a detainee eventually gave up a courier who eventually led them to Bin Laden so it did accomplish something in the end.
But was a interesting story. Ultimately he was naive and i dont think he will ever be returning to Afghanistan.

I understand desperate times call for desperate measures but the inhumane treatment towards others, no matter the circumstance, is uncalled for. Our prisons on the homeland treat people better. This is close to treatment of those during the holocaust minus the chambers. I love this country but we have ALOT of reflection to do. Domestic and foreign
This is not about America. There are bad people in every country. You can't blame America for what some have done. And who's to say that this guy is telling the whole truth??! Maybe he was caught doing something really awful?? There's more than just his side of the story.
@nicole_silvers You're not wrong at all but when there are numerous accounts and photos of things like this happening, that's when the thinking begins. War brings the worst out of every person regardless of who or what type of person you are. But it doesn't have to be that way. Like I said, no matter the circumstance, it's uncalled for.

And I don't think apologizing on the behalf of all of America is the way to go about this. All you're doing is accepting responsibility for the actions of what some soldiers may have done, and that just breeds hatred towards America for no reason. Most Americans would not condone what this man claims happened, but when you apologize on America's behalf, it gives a totally wrong impression. We already have too many people hating America based on lies
@nicole_silvers Well take this guy out of the equation and look up other cases. I'm not blaming America as a whole. We still have standards to uphold. The rest of the world doesn't like us so much but still looks to us and things like that aren't a good look. So I'm still gonna apologize on the behalf of those that have done atrocities and that we will never hear from. Not for America as a whole.
Even the worst Super-Max Prison in the USA couldn't get away with treating their prisoners like that, no matter what they were there for, even mass murder or serial rape. I am shocked that there are Americans working there that have the capacity for treating people so horrendously.
The military screens for psychopathy and appoints them to particular positions. It's an old tactic. Only certain individuals are capable of extreme inhumane treatment for extended periods of time with no psychological impact.

Man, idk. Not saying this guy is innocent or guilty, or that he deserved to go to Guantanamo. Just saying he is omitting something significant, and the interviewer knows it too. Maybe he is telling the truth but ending up in Afghanistan as a naive “oopsie” a month after 911 is a tough sell.
If there was a tiny spec on this guy he would have been charged. And to get a multi million payout from the UK government, again he wouldn’t have received a penny.

America illegally detaining him and putting him in Guantanamo for 2 years without charging him and instead illegally torturing him is the real story here.
