I understand the intention, but taking away ego (self-love?) is like taking away the very image and likeness that makes us up. Good luck! But the second greatest commandment (principle) says to "love neighbor as yourself." What if we could harness that ego and share it?
We treat people (and ourselves) not according to how we love them but by how we judge them. What if God is doing the judging, and we take a step back? And observe. We might then find out what love really is-and better understand the greatest principle.
Do you understand that this is where the problem lies? The widespread thought that has been assimilated into us that the ego is our essence, and that we cannot act without it?
There is a huge difference between using something and having "something" use us.
Between reigning over something and being its subject.
I think it was Einstein who presented it beautifully: "Intellect/logic is a wonderful employee but a bad boss".
The ego, the logic, the mind are very powerful tools, although there are those who want us to forget, but we are the ones who are supposed to use them and reign over them, and not the other way around.
There is a saying that says: "The slave who became a king" and this is the greatest compliment that can be given to a person.
That is, a person, who was a slave to his logic, his intellect, his ego, managed to go through a process and turn the bowl upside down and rule over them with a firm hand.
You are not in this place? It's OK. Acknowledging the problem is the beginning of the process.

The concept: "Love your neighbor as yourself" is actually a self-test designed as a honey trap.
This concept actually means: "Pay attention, the way you treat everything (and it means "EVERY LITTLE THING!") that is outside of you, is the way you treat your true self, your inner self, the small and weak voice inside you."
If you treat others with love and you are filled with happiness, you are in a good place.
If you treat others with "love" because you have to and you feel disgusted, you are not in a good place, but you are trying.
If you treat others with hatred/disgust/contempt and the like, hmmm... you are in a place that is not the best for you.
Now let's conclude.
If you bully those weaker than you, no matter how high and lofty your position, in your mentality you are still a slave.
If you treat every person with humility, compassion, modesty and fairness, no matter what your role is, what your work is and what others say about your actions, you ARE a king.
The first one is animal and will remain animal.
The second one rose to the level of a human being, ADAM, that is: "I try to imitate the ways of the Creator"

It is interesting to hear how western and eastern religions talk about Ego. In the west when you get rid of Ego you realize you are nothing. Yet that allows you to hear God's word without the filter of your own Ego. Where as in the deepest teachings of the eastern religions, not all but the oldest teachings. When you get rid of Ego you realize that you and God are one in the same. That we are all God experiencing itself. Two sides of the same coin. Why is it that the western religions prefer to see God as in a way separate from us?
A lot of westernised people haven't let go of their ego, they're too distracted too hear god.

Why is Jews in all caps in the headline? Israel has 12 tribes, not all Jews. You do know that there are non-Jews out there counting the Omer, keeping the Father’s Appointed times, and the other instructions in the Torah too.
The holy Hebrew scriptures conclude that all tribes united under the Judean kingdom calling themselves Jews, so your external assertions are irrelevant, and our scriptures are clearly commended only for us, so nobody ever gave you permission to practice our practices. I don't know what you have been reading, but when there were a definable 12 tribes they were all Jews before the Diaspora. If you want to have a belief in God like the Jews learn about being a Noachide (aka B'nei Noach, ben Noach, bat Noach) by studying the Seven Laws of Noah. Learn from the Orthodox rabbis and not wannabe rabbis. An excellent place for you to start is with Rabbi Tovia Singer. He'll show you the Good News is Fake News and show you how it became distorted and twisted by Christian leaders from the past.
