Robin Zander is an incredible vocalist. One of the tightest live bands. Seen them several times over the years always a great performance. Rick Nielson's guitar is a 5 neck Hamer custom built for him.
Agree, Kent. Saw them many times, just before they really skyrocketed to international fame, playing the downtown bars in Madison, Wisconsin. You just stood there mesmerized (and I'm a guy!). The band always played the good-looking guys (Robin and Tom) against the other two (Bunn and Rick) to great effect. Total charisma!
80s ballads had the best songs and vocals....want another great power ballad: Def Leppard ~ Love Bites Plus a more upbeat Def Leppard song would be Rocket(live version)
Hysteria is my favorite ballad Def Leopard did. Even today they sound fantastic in concert. Saw then. In the 80's and 2019. Great both times. The flame is awesome
This beautiful song gives me chills each time I hear it. It takes me to another place. A surreal feeling where no time has past, of being instantly close to the love of my life.
This is one of my fave CheapTrick tracks as it really shows off Robin's vocal ability, another fave is called Mighty Wings, it was used in the movie Top Gun, its awesome.
Great reaction. Robin Zander is a great vocalist with excellent range. I've seen them numerous times in the last ten years and his voice still holds up to this day singing their 70s and 80s songs. The only time I've seen them as a headliner was at a small (now defunct) club in Vegas when they were promoting a box set they put out in the early 90s - all the other times they were special guests of the headline band I went to see.
Me and my guy have been together over 26 years- met in our earlier 20’s- he had to go away for military purposes the second summer we were together. He played this song for me over the phone one night (said it was how he felt being apart) and it will forever remind me of that- ❤️ Our other song from the first night we laid eyes on one another is , “So into you” ,by Atlanta Rythym Section- LOVE it!!!❤️❤️💛✌️✨
Hey, yeah so, the guitar. 😬 If you react to more Cheap Trick, you will notice a very large collection of unique guitars. Rick Nielsen is a collector and has had many guitars specially made for him. That was one of them. There was a time period in the 80s when double neck guitars were quite common, but leave it to Nielsen to be that extra. This song is probably one of the most beautiful rock ballads out there, but make no mistake, this is a hard core rock and roll band. They have some real bangers, but you may have to go for audio on them since a lot of their heyday was prior to the music video explosion. Another good video you can check out tho is She's Tight. One of my favorite Cheap Trick songs is a ballad from their first album called Mandocello. Dream Police is a fun video and a great song, and if you have 8 or 9 minutes to spare and want to get a taste of quintessential Cheap Trick, Gonna Raise Hell is epic.
Awe... I have a very special corner of my heart where this song resides. Cheap Trick is a phenomenal band; I fell for them in 1981 and never quit Surrender and this song are my faves! I follow them all on social media now.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs. Cheap Trick almost turned this song down and I'm glad they didn't. Couldn't imagine anyone else singing this song.
Cheap Trick actually made it big in the foreign market before they became big in America (their home country). They did releases in America first with mediocre interest in them. They toured in Japan who received them better. Playing for a cheering crowd altered and increased their self-perception. Feeling better about themselves increased their performance. A lot of their song music videos are titled "Live at Budokan" (The Nippon Budokan) - an arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
J, I JUST saw your reaction to Live Aide. It was 5 days ago you made it. It was like watching a kid open up Christmas presents. It totally tickled me that you were mesmerized and a smile in your face the whole time. Watching your reactions to music of different eras and genres makes me grateful that I've experienced these generations. THANKS! (sorry it's on here. I'm not on the other social medias to tell you there) Cheap Trick👍 great band
Gawd... we definitely took for granted how good music was in the ‘80’s & ‘90’s. This was on the radio all the time... haven’t heard this in ions! Thanks for the throwback! 🥰🎵🎧👍🤘
I remember after they finished this video.. I waited on the whole crew at the Moustache Cafe in west Hollywood. Champagne was flowing and they were really satisfied on the results of the video. They told me about and to look for it!! 💜 The 80's were so fun for me. Thank you for reacting to this, brings back lots of memories for me.
I saw them in concert perform this song and others from the Lap of Luxury tour and they were AMAZING!!!! Robin's voice is just as great live as in the studio recordings and the rest of the band....perfect
Will never forget around 2003,when I brought my two kids to Rye Playland in N.Y. I knew that they had bands play there, usually local ones, but as we’re walking through the place,I hear this song, and think “Not bad”. A minute later I see that it’s Cheap Trick...Holy Shit !........”Yes kids, you can go on the rides yourself.I will be right here”.
It's been 30 years since I listen to this song. It was the last song me and two of my best friends listened to before they both tragically died in a car accident. It is such a beautiful song but always brings me back to that time...
Oh Jay! Thank you for this one. It was always my favorite Cheap Trick song and one of my top all time songs. Wow. Brought back memories with that one. ❤
This has always been on my playlist. I loved it as a kid. I saw them 3 years ago when they toured with Foreigner and they were amazing. This song sounded perfect and the lead guitarist was crazy good
This song was at all the dances. That being said, Cheap Trick was a huge part of me identifying myself as a woman, not a child. They were there as I matured. Duran Duran and Prince also. A beautiful period of my life. I'm thankful for the music and bands.
More please!!! Love these guys. They did not have as many chart toppers as some of the other great bands of the period, but they did have a number of great and memorable songs. Try "If You Want My Love You Got It" and "Voices"
A year ago today, I watched Cheap Trick open for ZzTop and my husband that's 12 years younger couldn't understand why my 40 year old ass was singing along and tears rolling down my face. Ah memories from my teens.... So strong. Amazing song that's underrated Also, ZZtop has a guitar like that as well. Check that out.
I just stumbled on to your page and this song right here reminds me of my better half. I'm 60 yes old and this brought me so many fond memories . Thank You!!!
One of my all time favorite bands. Last time I saw them live they were touring with ZZTop. What a fantastic night that was! Bassist Tom Petersson plays a 12 string bass. That always impressed me.
This reminds me of every sunset in my mom and dads pool at sunset. It’s just a beautiful song! Years later I would compare this to little big town “bring it on home to me” this would be an tween now married losing her husband to death,
I was just checking out your reaction list. Some incredible songs there, great reviews. I saw Cheap Trick in California in 1979, had back stage passes and hung out with them at their hotel bar. Robin wasn't there though....dammit lol
I love this song and Cheap Trick! I only had one of their tapes back in the day but I played it a lot in my car. I remember this song well but it has been so long that I forgot the title of the song was The Flame.
I LOVE Cheap Trick. I've seen them several times in concert. Other great songs are "She's Tight" and "Dream Police". He was the first one to play a tiered guitar like that, I'm pretty sure. I think he helped design it.
Robin Zander is one of the best voices in rock and roll, hands down.
He's the perfect Lennon/McCartney blend.
@@johnshannon9656 mccartney? Nah more like lennon + steve perry combined
I second that! Steve Perry is a beast as well!
Robin Zander is an incredible vocalist. One of the tightest live bands. Seen them several times over the years always a great performance. Rick Nielson's guitar is a 5 neck Hamer custom built for him.
Good grief, I've never seen anything like that guitar before. It scared me lol
How the heck did he manage that thing Lolol?
Agree, Kent. Saw them many times, just before they really skyrocketed to international fame, playing the downtown bars in Madison, Wisconsin. You just stood there mesmerized (and I'm a guy!). The band always played the good-looking guys (Robin and Tom) against the other two (Bunn and Rick) to great effect. Total charisma!
Wow I haven't heard this song in yrs. I used to play this all the time. When music was GREAT. Thanks for the reaction.

Cheap Trick delivers all around. Vocals, guitar , bass, drums. There's no slack in this group.
Robin''s voice is incredible. His lives are fantastic.
Beautiful song, the music of this golden era (60's70's80's90's) will live forever
So Glade you got back to Cheap Trick. Now we need Surrender and Dream Police.
‘Annnnnnd this one’s for the ladies...’

Love this song! Beautiful! Robin Zanders' voice is so beautiful on this song!
This beautiful song gives me chills each time I hear it. It takes me to another place. A surreal feeling where no time has past, of being instantly close to the love of my life.

Great reaction! I have seen them several times, they call themselves the hardest working rock band. Lots of songs to listen to, try Surrender next.
Me and my guy have been together over 26 years- met in our earlier 20’s- he had to go away for military purposes the second summer we were together. Cheap Trick my favorite band of all time .The first time I went to a concert they opened the event I still have the t-shirt from that tour.
The lead singers voice is off the hook!! , epic!! “The flame,” is a masterpiece!!
“He’s singing to you “ perfect!
Absolutely one of my favorite songs. Cheap Trick almost turned this song down and I'm glad they didn't. Couldn't imagine anyone else singing this song.

Robin Zander is one of the most underrated singers to come around in my lifetime.
Agreed. His voice is *fantastic.*
@@meredithcarroll6209 You are 100% right. He is never brought up when people talk about the best rock vocalists! He is a beast!!
I’ve been listening to that voice for 40 years. It’s still great.

The Flame is and always has been my ultimate favorite from Cheap Trick. It will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for posting it.
Saw them way back in 1975. They have been great for decades.
First time I heard Cheap Trick was in Jan of '78, they were the warm-up band for Kanas on their Point of Know Return tour.

Robin Zander is a great vocalist,he made a duet with Ann Wilson, the Heart's singer:Surrender To Me,a beautiful song included in Tequila Sunrise movie.
I wish I could go back to 1988, when this song was fresh & I was hearing it for the first time on MTV at my friend's house.
