    This is really taking shape. Thanks for the tips on laying static grass. Looking forward to the “snow storm”. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken

      Glad you enjoyed it Ken, it definitely looks a lot better with the grass and foliage down and next week is where all the details get added like the snow. Thanks for watching 😃

    The layout has really come to life now, the static grass, the fencing and the trees are such a big part of any layout and a small train looks so good running through it, brilliant job 😀

      Absolutely, I always think that when the static grass goes down is when a layout is transformed from "work in progress" to "nearly finished". It makes such a huge difference! Thanks for watching 😃

    I was talking to one on my German freinds yesterday and explaining how people have ordered Christmas presents in October days before royal mail decided to have a couple months on holiday.
    He was gobsmacked
    I've never seen him so angry before needless to say somethings I won't repeat here, he did say though "this would never happen in my country" I didn't dare mention british rail's "there's a squirrel on the line so all trains to get to your grandparents on the 24 are cancelled (tough sh*t)

    I also like using the Pico fence over the Hornby fence.

    Hello TMRG I do like the style of these little series of videos you are doing (and the ones previously of Gofod Tynn), easy to watch and learn from, hopefully you will carry on next year with the 'modular' layout too. Thanks, Merry Christmas and have Happy New Year

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад +1

      Hi Peter, glad you've been enjoying these series. The plan for next year is to focus on the modular layout as much as possible! There's so much to do that it'll probably be broken up into several mini series throughout the year with occasional gaps in between while I film/edit the next batch of videos. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you too 😃

  • @harrys_railway
    @harrys_railway Год назад +1

    Hi TMRG do you recommend 009 scale? Since I would love to do a 009 layout after I have completed my OO layout! Do you have any loco suggestions for 00 or 009?

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад

      Hi Harry, I definitely recommend 009 especially for those short on space. It is quite expensive at the moment though as it's still a bit of a niche subject but it's good to see support growing for it.
      As for loco recommendations, anything by Bachmann is pretty good for 009. I have two of their Double Fairlies which are very impressive and their new Hunslet locos are being released at the moment too which also look very good. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃

    What species do you use for Christmas trees in your area? It took me off guard to hear someone say that Douglas Fir isn't really what you'd see used for a Christmas tree - they're the species we use most here. But they're super common here. I guess I never thought about it before. Of course people use different trees in different parts of the world! Haha neat.
    This series rules, by the way. It's the first content I've seen on the channel. I'm excited. Looking forward to that initial binge you only get once. I can tell it's gonna be a good one!

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Год назад +1

      I guess I didn't explain it very well in the video as it was a bit of an off hand comment. I just meant that the product from Hornby wasn't intended to specifically be a Christmas tree just a normal fir tree. We definitely use fir trees here in the UK (although a Norway Spruce very popular too) but you're unlikely to see them growing naturally in a village like they are in North Poleton.
      Really glad you've been enjoying this series though and great to hear looking forward to watching the other videos too. If you enjoyed this one I would suggest working your way through the 009 Suitcase Layout series next as that has a similar format. Thanks for watching and becoming a Member too! 🎅

    • @mitchellparadise3801
      @mitchellparadise3801 Год назад

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy That makes sense. I suppose when you consider scale that would be a pretty massive Christmas tree.
      The suitcase series is right where I went after this one. Neat idea! I’m brand new to the hobby. I just started to get interested in the last few weeks.. It’s fun to see all the massive layouts and collections on RUclips. Just the notion that so many people continue to find the hobby rewarding for their entire life is wonderful! It’s inspiring, but it’s also pretty intimidating when you’re first getting into it. Maybe even enough to stop people from ever starting up. (You should have seen the fear of financial ruin building in my wife’s eyes when I was showing her the coal operations on NSmodelers channel!)
      But seeing these smaller projects really puts those pipe dreams aside and gets ya thinking of ways you can start playing with trains right now. Without spending a ton of money. Without allocating a bunch of space. I don’t expect to make anything that turns out as nice as the stuff on this channel, but that’s fine with me. I’m confident it’ll be a lot fun regardless of the results. Time to take this hobby from spectator to participant! Let’s go.
