    This is amazing skill that will allow the poster to live on. On the other hand though, being a car guy, I find this somewhat wrong, like stripping a classic muscle car from the 60s and beyond of its original paint. Sure it is worn out and faded and chipped and does not stop the car from rusting further, but its as a part of the cars history as it was when it first rolled off the assembly line.

    Judging from the French text and the logo of the distributor with the African continent (Union Films Afrique) in it, this poster must be from a former French colony in Africa. Also, notice how it says RKO Radio “Films” instead of RKO Radio “Pictures” (another sign of this one being a foreign poster). Anyways, good job on the restoration!

    Nice work but I can’t avoid noticing that the process darkens the colours, details on King Kong are much darker than the «old» copy.

    • @crosswalklarry

      I would bet that is close to how it originally looked before it aged.

    • @FourthConeRestoration
      @FourthConeRestoration  7 месяцев назад +5

      The print is definitely less faded after our process which made Kong appear darker than the condition it arrived in and closer to the original coloring. I will say the saturation on this video for the “After” shot was tricky and absolutely made the print appear even darker in certain areas than in actuality. Hope this helps 😊

      What I've noticed at around 5:00 is that the 'after' shows that a little amount of poster was lost after restoration. Right at the lower half in the middle, there now is a big white gap where the original didn't have this. Ofcourse, it was folded and damaged over there, but now that part is just downright gone.

    If the paper is more brittle why is it mounted to canvas? Canvas changes tension over time, it seems when it eventually does it'd tear the paper. When you find old artworks on canvas often the canvas is either too taut or loose.

    I actually don't mind the music. It's much better than the Amazon hold music. I'm going to guess that the bleaching agent that is used is some kind of a peroxide solution. I could be wrong but I know that peroxide is used in a lot of other restorations as a safer form of bleach

    I have a pretty rare insert poster of Lady Of The Tropics with Hedi Lamaar and Robert Taylor that along with its pink fonts comes across as one of the most deco looking posters I've seen that isn't Metropolis. The folds have broken up Taylor's face and I'm trying to figure out what medium, from crayon to colored pencil to acrylics to work the areas. It's already mounted on foam vote. By the way, NONE of the jpegs online are this poster. There is one black and white photo with Hedi in a blazing white head wrap looking straight down on Taylor facing straight up that was used as the faces, but mine are full color. I think it would be easier to rephotograph the poster to a 100 meg file, touch it up in Photoshop and reprint it...
