  • In this video, we share the relining process being performed on a 1950s "King Kong" one sheet movie poster. This process included demounting, cleaning, and linen backing the poster.
    🎬 About "King Kong" (1933):
    The 1933 film "King Kong," featuring Fay Wray, is a pioneering masterpiece in the monster movie genre, blending adventure and horror with groundbreaking special effects for its time. Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, the film tells the thrilling story of a giant ape captured from a remote island and brought to New York City, where chaos ensues. Fay Wray's iconic portrayal of Ann Darrow, the damsel in distress, and the climactic battle atop the Empire State Building, have cemented the film's place in cinematic history. Culturally, "King Kong" reflects early 20th-century fascinations with exploration and the unknown, while also addressing themes of beauty and beastly nature, making it a timeless symbol in film lore.

    This is amazing skill that will allow the poster to live on. On the other hand though, being a car guy, I find this somewhat wrong, like stripping a classic muscle car from the 60s and beyond of its original paint. Sure it is worn out and faded and chipped and does not stop the car from rusting further, but its as a part of the cars history as it was when it first rolled off the assembly line.

    • @FourthConeRestoration
      @FourthConeRestoration  Месяц назад +2

      The print is definitely less faded after our process which made Kong appear darker than the condition it arrived in and closer to the original coloring. I will say the saturation on this video for the “After” shot was tricky and absolutely made the print appear even darker in certain areas than in actuality. Hope this helps 😊

      What I've noticed at around 5:00 is that the 'after' shows that a little amount of poster was lost after restoration. Right at the lower half in the middle, there now is a big white gap where the original didn't have this. Ofcourse, it was folded and damaged over there, but now that part is just downright gone.

    I have a pretty rare insert poster of Lady Of The Tropics with Hedi Lamaar and Robert Taylor that along with its pink fonts comes across as one of the most deco looking posters I've seen that isn't Metropolis. The folds have broken up Taylor's face and I'm trying to figure out what medium, from crayon to colored pencil to acrylics to work the areas. It's already mounted on foam vote. By the way, NONE of the jpegs online are this poster. There is one black and white photo with Hedi in a blazing white head wrap looking straight down on Taylor facing straight up that was used as the faces, but mine are full color. I think it would be easier to rephotograph the poster to a 100 meg file, touch it up in Photoshop and reprint it...

    If the paper is more brittle why is it mounted to canvas? Canvas changes tension over time, it seems when it eventually does it'd tear the paper. When you find old artworks on canvas often the canvas is either too taut or loose.
