I have spent 5 years planning my move from Orange County NY to Cape Coral. Will be moving very soon, Thank God it's still there. You guys are the best.
It's getting cheaper by the day. The climate deniers love it! ...just bring enough to pay the ever increasing insurance premiums...but look on the bright side, soon there won't be anyone that will insure you. You won't have to pay a cent on insurance!!!
Glad things didn't go south for you guys like it did with Ian! That's the hardest part of moving to Florida, is dealing with the hurricanes. We've been so lucky here in Fort Lauderdale. Our prayers go out to everyone affected by Milton and Helene!
Thanks for all your videos! Great videos and tips. We purchased a home off SW 8th CT I think we’re in same area, took some of your pointers and retied my boat. These last two storm surges had me worried but your calm approach to these storms helped tremendously. Thanks again for all the info!
Thank you for the update. We have a home there but we live in California. Local and national news does not cover Cape Coral. So I do appreciate you keeping us informed
Thank you for the updates! I own a property in Cape Coral and live in NY. Look forward to your videos to get an idea of what's going on there when these storms come through.
Thank you for posting this. We're in exactly the same area, same setup. Couldn't see the water on my cams because of darkness. Really nice job securing your vessels.
You did a great job securing your boats and in preparation. Good decision to remove your covers, you dont want them ripping and getting torn up. Enjoy all your videos. Fellow neighbor from SW 30th!
Glad yall are safe. I have family right there where u live at. N i haven't heard from them since yesterday morning. I pray every one is at safety. Thanks for the video. Be careful dude. Sending prayers 🙏
When I was stationed at Patrick AFB on the east coast we would see that sparkling all the time in wind and rain. Was told it was salt build up on connectors and insulators. Looks like you’re doing decent Tom. Still the night to go. Good luck.
Capt. Tom, this is the most informative coverage of the storm I've seen all day! I have friends and family in Ormond Beach and The Villages and there has been no coverage of these areas to the degree as yours. CBS, NBC, ABC take note! Thanks my friend....Buzz from Maryland
Glad you are okay. Great prep work. We're up by surfside on the canal. We got 6 foot surge, house is all good. Still without power. I'm there tomorrow morning. Borrowing a generator. Milton stole my mailbox. Gave it to my neighbor down the street:) my property manager found it:)
Thank you! 🙏 As of midnight the tide gauge in Ft Meyers peaked at 5.27 above mean high. Helene was 5.12 and Ian was 7.21. High tide is 8:20 am but with the winds shifting the surge should be dropping by then. Peak winds at tide station were 71.5 mph.
Thanks for the awesome update! You look well secured. Hopefully you're past the worst of it as well. We have a condo on Winkler near Sumerlin for the winter months (Cold here in Canada) and it seems to be ok so far. Love FLA despite the risks!
I sure hope you made out alright with the boats from Hurricane Milton. I’ve never been in a Hurricane so I just can’t imagine the force of it . Certainly lots of damage elsewhere in Florida. Good to see your boats made out ok. Godspeed, stay safe. From a former boater in Ontario Canada
We have had much flash flooding in our area, tornadoes and currently getting beat up by the wind with no rain. It actually looked like a second eye wall formed off our coast, though we know it didn’t. Crazy crap! Praying the best for yall! 🤗 Stay safe !
Best coverage I've seen of this hurticane, by far! Well done Captain Tom, feels like we're living it with you...👍 Water level looks a bit higher than Helene too? You're really well prepared, though.
When the hurricane came in, it was carrying sea water with it. That's why the transformer is sparkling. When Sally hit us the same thing was happening, the trees all were burned and lost there leaves, some died. Glad you were safe. Wonder if the fish were biting 🤔
Got up about an hour ago, it's now around 6:30AM here in Miami. For all accounts I think you guys faired pretty well last night. That's great news. Keep us posted. Prayers for our fellow Floridians who are struggling right now.
It's now October 10, 9am. I hope you had minimal damage. We are in Miami and sick and tire of these event. I paid a bundle to have the boat (jeanneau nc1095) hauled out in case of a hurricane, but still you sweat bullets the whole time.
It's about 1:50 A.M. on Thursday. The wind has finally let up. I didn't like that hurricane. I can't complain though. I never lost power. Awesome. Some people got it so bad AGAIN! I'm afraid to look around outside when it's daylight.
Interesting storm missed landfall by an incredible 6 hours which timed perfectly for low tide hit instead of high tide hence why no cataclysm very good initial model runs on this absolutely huge storm but not nearly the impact I thought a direct hit on Tampa and this was a direct hit would have and Orlando and Cape Canaveral as well. If you were there for Ian or even #helene two weeks ago I'm sure you can attest to the difference. Gulfstream current might draw out the totality of this inflow as early as 6:00 AM this morning combined with this massive anomalous near due West to East before the turn event that this was. Great content here great teaching moment on securing your vessels😊😊
The anchor in the grass is a good idea. Maybe when all is back to normal, you should put in a cement pole in the ground with a shackle hook to tie it to! Would be a lot stronger than the grass.
I was thinking the same thing but the anchors held so well I’m just doing that every time. They didn’t budge in the grass and the wind was really jolting them.
What if you were to stretch wrap a fender low and a fender high to the water side of the pilings before the storm hits? I would think they wouldn’t rotate to the land side.
I'd say you're crazy to live there, but I've already said it. Sword of Damocles & all that. That's why I left SF in '90 after Loma Prieta, 10/17/89 5:04PST, not like I'll ever forget, as I fear death the same as any other man. These things change you....
Thanks for the update Tom. You've got this! Did I see something correctly? Looks like the wind direction is blowing the water out of your canal, and not blowing toward the dead end direction? Which may keep the surge elevation lower at your dock?
Just curious, how much do you pay for insurance and taxes on the water? I live on the water in NJ and insurance and taxes are pushing me out. Thinking about Florida. Thanks. Stay safe.
Every house is different. We have a modest older home and insurance totals about 10k a year. But. We don’t have state income tax, no snow and endless summers. 😁
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs Interesting back story. I know you are dealing with bigger problems, but thanks for replying. I used to live in the Tampa Bay, then Orlando, area so these hurricanes kind of hit home. Best of luck and keep enjoying the boating lifestyle.🙂

I don't understand why owners don't pull their boats our of the water before the hurricane and move them to safety inland. Seems like a gigantic total waste of money when I see all these huge expensive boats pushed up onto land and into houses wrecking both. I can't believe any insurance company would insure a boat in a hurricane prone area without a hurrican exclusion.
Thank you Tom. Those of us with property there, who are not there now, very much appreciate the information.

You can probably get it cheaper than I did. I used to live in Monroe btw.

I water never got to them but I’ll hold on to them for next time.

The arcing at the power transformer is caused by cracked insulators. You should let the power company know once things get back to normal.
Yeah, based on that thumbnail looks pretty rough for you guys
Saw you at Home Depot the other day....... Wondering what time the end of the video was to gauge current water height. I left and went inland
Hey there you are! Sorry I didn’t get your name there. Hope you did well. The water level was for 1030 or so. 3.5 feet over rock. Is leveling off now.
