Miss Kay i believe it stands for grade point average. I’ve known if existence for as long as i can remember but legit have no idea how it actually works...yeah this is why im gonna drop out of college🙃
@@nikkidutt2034 I get you. NYU is definitely a really nice school, but the tuition is pretty expensive, so without the scholarships and work study, it isn't financially feasible for a lot of people sadly
Nikki Dutt Not worth the tuition imo just for the dream school experience. Student debt is a huge burden and to leave with 280k in debt is just insane.
Wow! I went to NYU and came to this conclusion too.. the ones that loved it had a very clear direction (probably not possible for most college freshman sophomores). Having too many choices isn’t always the best thing!
You do you boo. I'm the academic type of person but I believe mental health is better. Why waste your life on something you don't enjoy doing. I believe you made the right choice for yourself. Your so lucky for having supporting Asian parents lol. ❤️
Rahi Mitra it’s actually “you’re* this is the reason why we stay in school no matter what. No disrespect, there are short careers or just take generalas.
@@noneed8196 Public school doesn't teach proper grammar. Most teachers don't even know the difference between modern English, Middle English and Anglish(Old English).
Hahahahaha for me it was, but it can be worth it if you are able to take advantage of all the resources the city and school provide, which obviously I couldn’t
@@ceceria860 well NYU is private so intl or in state or domestic all doesn't matter, they all pay the same unless there's aid which NYU is quite infamous for.
College will always be there if you decide to go back. I'm currently in community college and I hope to transfer to a 4 year university. Although I still kind of think I'm missing out on the full college experience, being able to stay at home with my family has been so much better for my mental health and for money saving purposes. Just remember that everyone has their own path that they take 💕
I'm happy for you that your parents let you stay at home because of money reasons but most importantly for your mental health. I don't have parents. After my foster parent found out about how I got accepted to the community college (that I'm still currently at) she told me about if I lived on campus it would be easier for me because of classes/to meet people. I am glad I was able to move into the dorms but mentally after living I'm the dorms for a few months its mentally exhausting. My point is you arent really missing anything except being roomed with complete strangers that I dont understand how my roommates got matched up with me
Selena Y. Thank you for sharing!!! I’m actually just about done with my first semester. I can see where your foster parent was coming from because it has definitely sometimes been hard for me to get to class due to car issues. But on the other hand college is already such a huge transition from high school so being able to stay in an environment that you’re already familiar with can be a big help. This especially applies to those who are first generation college students and don’t have anyone who can tell them what it’s like. I’m wishing you good luck as you continue with school and life 😊
@@roxanna616 of course no problem. That's great to hear. I finished my first semester last week. I agree with where you're coming from about if you're familiar with the environment. It's just I wished she would understand that(or maybe she does idk). Are you a first generation college student? Since you brought that up... I hope your semester and college life goes well too :)
Hi Roxanna I totally get where you're coming from. I just finished community college this past May. I dont regret it, I know I saved thousands of dollars and I am not in debt. My plan was/is to transfer to a 4 year. I've gotten into the school I want to go to but I've decided to hold off because of finances. So it's been an interesting experience being home it's good and bad. It's like relaxing but stressful. I dont have pressure of grades and homework but there is also this uncertainty in it all. But I dont think its helped mentally, it's been an important time of self reflection
That is true, i do still want to earn a bachelors, masters and phd but atm im just aiming for my associates degree and im earning my cosmetology license and my cosmetology instructor license and just become a beauty school instructor and then if i want to go back to college in the future i can cause ill have general education courses but right now i want to just get a better job thats better than customer service and is fun, and then focus on moving
That's just WRONG so wrong SO you're telling me that all what you learn in school is actually equal to money What makes some ppl hate school is this type of thinking and that's not what jenn ment by doing the video . That's the tea
You dropping out makes you a lot more human. I appreciate your honesty and I feel like a lot of your subscribers can relate. You usually seem very put together, it’s nice to know that we all struggle and that no one‘s perfect.❤️
12:11 I am indeed shooketh out of my seat right now😂 but I can seriously sense the relief you feel after this and you made so much sense. Wishing you the best jen❤️
3.7?? As a senior in college I can honestly say thats a pretty amazing GPA. It sounds like you had bad advisors and picked the wrong major and college. If you are a creative person business majors are probably not the best lol. That being said college isn't for everyone and if it is making you so miserable and you have better options that you enjoy, take those. It's sad to see how society has placed this sense of self worth on whether you get a degree or not. And to make you feel any better, unless you get your degree in undergrad to enter into some graduate or undergrad program like medical school, law school, PA, PTA, PT, then its extremely hard to even find a job and sometimes you are working jobs that are not even what your degree was about which thens up creating a life that is unfulfilled. Props to you for realizing your options early. School will always be there.
I definitely agree. I think a university with a great arts program where she could learn more about what she does would have been so much more beneficial. I go to Temple and am hoping to be a Graphic Design major and switching to this major was definitely the best choice. Also most schools in nyc just dont have that cliche college experience people are looking for.
No, the reality is its not just about doing what makes you happy. The reality is “SUFFER NOW, ENJOY LATER” i get that you’re staying positive but thats just not the case, sometimes we gotta do what we need to do you should be old enough to understand. 🤣😂
@@buster8607 I agree and disagree. Society these days is getting more and more difficult to live in with prices raising each day and such. Getting a good education and good job is the best bet. But there is a limit to things. Going to a community college is enough. Top colleges aren't necessary.
Well that's ironic, I dropped out around the same time but it was more for health reasons. I never thought about making a video about it though because I doubt anyone would really care lol. It's great that you have youtube to focus on, at the end of the day you know what's best for yourself and people will support you :)
Omg thank you for being so real Jen. Everyone on RUclips seems to have an amazing life so it’s great to see the “other side”. You’re such an inspiration for me. Every time I have a bad day at school I watch your college videos. When I watch them I always tell myself not to give up so one day I can be like you, happy and eager to learn. You have helped me so much with my anxiety. It’s your life so do what you want. I’ll be supporting you whatever you do. Thank you so much for helping me go trough the bad times in my life in your own way. You may not know it but your videos really have an impact on some people’s life. You might not read this but if you do I just wanted to say thank you once again! ❤️
Jen. Hi. I'm 20 years old (so I think we're like the same age??) and I completely relate. _ughihavesomuchtosayokay_ So I also dropped out of college with media classes and I was terrified to hear what people had to say about it. My reason to drop out was that my mental health was seriously going down the drain and I couldn't even get myself to go there anymore. So here's what I learned from that and wanted to share (obviously it's not the *exact* same situation but y'know-): 1. You are in charge!! You're an adult (legally at least, adulting _whaaat_ I know, same tbh) so you can make big decisions like these no matter what your family/friend/whoever says (unless it's the cops, seriously stay out of jail kids) My family was 0% supportive of me dropping out and I ended up having to move into my own place; I can't stress enough how important it is to make decisions that make YOU happy! (Your no might make them angry but it will make you free) 2. Literally *NO ONE* knows what they're doing. Seriously, we all have no clue. I have so many things that I can see myself doing in the future and I don't know if I'm gonna enjoy any of them. It is terrifying and it f-cking sucks but I'm never going to know if I don't try which brings me to my next point... 3. It is OKAY to make mistakes. (insert rant about capitalistic society and high expectations) We need to make mistakes to learn new things about us just like you said and idc what anyone says but it's fine. Like 1000% okay. No one has any right to be mad at you for making a mistake, no one has any right to hold that against you or make you feel bad. I made mistakes too, am I proud of them? No. And it's scary to admit to them because we all feel pressured to achieve and function in society. But honestly- 4. _DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!_ (I trust that anyone that reads this won't hurt anyone else in the process) Take that step back. Focus on yourself. Go for that break. Try out that new thing. Reach out when you're sad. Don't forget number 3. You are SO loved and there are SO many people that care about you. To end this philosophical ramble, take a quote from my fave John Green: " You are helpful. And you are loved. And you are forgiven. And you are not alone." _yeet_
@@JENerationDIY Omg you're welcome sis, been a supporter for about 2 1/2 years now 💕 I am still struggeling a little, my mental health improved A LOT since I dropped out (in hindsight, obvi there are ups and downs) but things are looking good. I would do it again in a heartbeat though. From the bottom of my heart I wish you all the best and hope that your friends and family keep being there for you. You got this!!
This was a lot but I read it all. I am only 11 so I am not in college but school just drains all my energy and I just can’t deal with it school puts so much work on just small kids but I have no choice to drop out! So I hate it! But what you guys said made me feel proud of you for dropping out I just wish I could! 😩
it must’ve been a tough decision to make especially with so many norms in society and culture telling you this and that, but i’m with you from beginning to end on this journey jen! i will support you no matter what and only wish you the best in this new chapter in your life ❤️❤️
Gosh, some of the people in these comments... College is not the center of the universe. It's not for everyone. If you want to go-- go. But it's no one's job to try and force someone else to go or shame them for not going or dropping out. People have their reasons for the way they handle their college experience, and no one has the right to try to control that. Everyone's mindset is different. People act like someone is "pathetic" for dropping out of school or not going, but to me, it's sad when people do go and end up miserable the entire time because they sacrifice their mental or physical health. I'm proud of you for doing what you felt was best, Jen.
I feel like people are more bothered over the fact that she quit because of social media and feared that if she focused on school and came back it will no longer be there. Like how silly is that.
Ikr people need to learn self-love. College is pretty optional and if it gives you that much stress it's a reasonable choice to drop out and it's a reasonable choice to stay. College is usually a 4 year course too it's never to late to join. To sum up, I agree with you college should be the center of somebodys life..
"People do go and end up miserable sacrificing their mental and physical health" Sadly, this is true for me and it's is taking toll on my mental health since a year ago. I'm not trying talk this issue to my parents or even my relatives because their only advice will be "Just finished it okay ?" .
glad to hear you making decisions based on your own wants and needs! :) I struggled with a lot of the same problems and hearing you talk about it helps a lot. you should always focus on your own wellbeing!! will always support you 💖💕
wow. Me as an Asian university student can relate so much. It is so true that growing up we just aim to have good grades but actually ended up being so lost for our future. Actually i am considering switching my major for grad school. I support you and admire you for making this brave decision. Hope your future will make you genuinely happy.
Nothing but love and respect for you, Jen! ♥︎ It's your life. You absolutely should be making decisions that will make YOU happy - along with what's most practical / beneficial. ((Also, the thought of getting a B was THE WORST when I was in high school!))
*Hey Jen, you're still doing great and did better than I ever have. I am a Junior at university right now, and thankfully I have a big traditional campus to enjoy everything, but I don't. I also don't know what I want to do, but I chose a degree that I thought would be best for me. Not going to college was also not an option for me, and it sucks more that I got a full ride scholarship that I cannot walk away from easily. My friends have paid insane amounts and I feel guilty when I do bad and see them struggling to pay their tuition. My friends and I always joke about wanting to die and dropping out. We are always tired and sleeping and we don't even feel like going out, I've seen my friends stressed and crying. It really is depressing and having a lot of stress doesn't help. My GPA is far lower than your, a low 3.0 but at this point Cs get degress and I'm just trying to make my Mexican parents proud. College isn't for everyone and it isn't the perfect little experience everyone expects. Fortunately things are looking better for me, although I don't think I'll end up using my degree at this point. I'm glad you found your way out and I hope day you can find something you like so you can get that degree you always dreamed about! I'm not giving up because there's a ton of occupations I want to try after college and I'm definitely ready! You go girl, love you!*
You go girl! And even though you're not sure what you want to do it will be nice to have that degree to fall back on. You worked hard to get your full ride don't ever feel bad for earning something like that! I understand what it's like not being able to pay too though, I've had it a little both ways. Good luck!
Hey Jen, I just dropped out of college as well. Thank you for making this video, it makes me feel like I'm not alone. I never realized how much I hated school and how I simply wasn't ready for any of it. I never felt more miserable and lost in my entire life. This video made me happy realizing others and yourself go through the same type of feeling. Thank you once again.
I dropped out of college in my senior year. At the time, I thought it was a terrible decision, but later, after I knew myself better, I went back to a much better school and got my BFA. Then, some years later, after I FINALLY figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, l went back again and got my Masters. And I didn’t have a successful RUclips channel, like you, because back then, there was no RUclips and no internet and computers that could fit on desks were a new thing (yes, I am an old lady). But it all turned out all right for me in the end, and I have confidence it will for you, too. You already have a successful RUclips channel! That’s great! If that’s your passion, keep going with it. College can always be an option for you later on. You have your whole life ahead of you-might as well follow your passion. If it doesn’t work out, you can always change direction later on, when you know more about yourself and about life.
DO NOT MAJOR IN COMMUNICATIONS I REPEAT DO NOT MAJOR IN COMMUNICATIONS! my dad is an English major and he works in communications and he has straight up said that communications majors are always the worst applicants and he doesn't hire them. If you want to work in PR/communications study English instead because knowing how to write well is a really valuable skill in that field! This has been a PSA. Edit: why is this getting so many likes I don’t understand
@@ASightToSee_ please correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding it's because as a communications program you spend more time studying the industry and stuff than the skills that you need to do the job well (like writing). Obviously I have never been a communications major so I'm just reciting things I have been told. It's also worth mentioning that part of it can probably be attributed to the fact that English is kind of a dying major and he feels protective of it but not so much that it would invalidate his opinion.
@@helena-hp8vl I actually can see why he would say that. I am extremely passionate about my major, but I also wish I minored in English at least. I feel like I needed to improve my writing skills. Writing is important for most jobs anyways. But I also feel like a lot of employers just bash recent college grads in general. I always hear on the side that we're not prepared ( not just COMM majors) .I know I don't know everything, but I do know craft takes time, practice and maybe years to grab. That's why internships are SO important. If I was an undergrad, I would REALLY focus on perfecting my craft and doing more internships. Too late now haha although I think I'm doing just fine in my career path. Thanks for sharing
I'm currently a senior in high school and I've applied to schools as communications or journalism majors if I could minor in English as well would that be beneficial or would I have to become an English major. I'm just a bit worried since I've applied to schools as such but if there is any alternatives or additional courses I could add to the major please let me know!
Respect your honesty and humility! I currently attend nyu and can relate so much. It is hard to get used to, draining, and can be very lonely. Good luck, excited for future content :)
Jennifer Everyone thinks that if you think this is the best decision, we support you Don't worry I'm also an academic person I feel like Asian families always want their families to do soo well I also have no idea what I want to be Jennifer You are an amazing person We would ALWAYS support you 😊
College isn’t for everyone, Jen ❤️ I’m glad that your parents supported you through this. My dad also dropped out of college, but still has a good job.
Dropping out of high school was a real LIFE CHANGING experience for me as well Jen. Just shared my own story on a new RUclips video, thought you'd find it interesting ❤️
Can definitely relate Jen. I've finished 1st year doing Exercise Physiology at a prestigious university in Australia. I had no idea what to do after Year 12 either. Everyone, especially my parents, urged me to go to uni. I got a really good result in high school, so I decided to pursue further study. I kinda loved my course at the beginning, but I kept getting borderline Passes in Semester 1 to Fails (I believe - we get our marks soon) in Semester 2. I'm seriously considering dropping out, but I feel obligated to keep going or at least transfer to another course because of my parents' expectations. Plus, in order to be successful with a stable career, everyone says you must get a degree. I've recently been diagnosed with clinical depression. University is what triggers it. I'm currently seeing a psychologist, and I've got decently-supportive friends and family. I haven't hung out with my friends in so long. I don't even have a "best" friend to talk about my life to. However, now that my exams and 2nd Semester's over though, I feel like I can breathe again and do things without feeling guilty because I have nothing to study for at the moment. It's good though because I love being by myself. I learn about and love myself more. I'm so glad that you have such supportive friends and family Jen. I'm really happy you've gone after your passions, even if you had to "waste" time and money to do so. I really hope I find my way soon. Although I still have no idea what to do, and there's so much pressure, I know God has a plan for me. If anyone has taken the time to read my comment, I'd really love some advice and I'd greatly appreciate you keep a stranger in your thoughts and prayers.
C G I think you should take the Myers Briggs personality test. I already knew what I wanted to be but I took it anyway because my counselor suggested it. In the results, it showed a list of my potential career choices that my personality fits. I feel like that's a great start for you since you don't know what you want to do. Also, try out some hobbies to see what you enjoy or don't enjoy. Some people were able to make a whole career out of their passion (music, art, dance, etc.). Since you have depression, it's very important that you take good care of yourself. Do meditation, journaling, listen to motivational music, find inspirational quotes and place them where you often look, go for a walk when you're stressed out, treat yourself to a bubble bath, etc.
I dropped out of College as well because of my mental health. The school lacked resources and the staff lacked empathy. I just re-enrolled into a better University with tons of resources and wonderful staff. I'm much happier now and I'm glad I made the decision I made.
This made me a little nervous because you are one of the reasons I applied to NYU! I find out Thursday. I know that NYU is my dream school but this made me a little sad that your experience wasn’t amazing :(
hey Lauren! i’m a sophomore at NYU and i love it! The experience is different for everyone. Personally, i love it & so do my friends. if you have any questions, let me know!
I will love and support you forever!!! I am 13 so I don’t know how much stress and anxiety you are feeling but you’re such an inspiration to me to not do thing for OTHERS. I need to learn to do what I want to do. I’m only in eighth grade and college is already a source of stress, you showed me that college isn’t that big of a deal and how following your dreams is way more important.
HEYYY You're going to make it through. I just dropped out of school a few months ago too because i was miserable, and you know what? after the guilt is gone you're going to be fine, you are going to be happier and to thrive and girl let me tell you one thing : you ain't got no time for regrets in this life you did your best and you did what you needed and you are amazing. tell yourself that everyday. (it's ok to be confused and lost we are so young and thrown into a life we didn't chose)
Well, you lasted longer than me! I also didn’t do a lot of background checking of the classes and stuff, so I was in university for four months and then dropped out - and it was the best decision in my life. Felt like 15 kilos just flew off my shoulders and I could finally become more and more happy after that. I think that if you actually considering dropping out and goes through with that, that is probably the best thing for you. No matter what anyone else tells you. I really hope you’re more happy now and can do what you loves most - cause that’s what really matters! I will continue to support you, and it’s so silly that we all worry so much of what others think, because it’s really our life and we, as the main character in our own life, should be taking all of the decisions our self, and not because someone else is telling us what to do! You just do you, Jennifer! I’ll still watch your channel 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I feel so scared right now because I think I’m gonna stop college tomorrow .I am 18 and was very confused regarding what college should I go to .I wanted Web Design but there is no college even close to it in my country so I picked Computer Science .My major in highschool was Literature so I haven’t done maths in 3 years now .I decided to go to this college where there was no admission exam required and got it because I had a really high GPA but my GPA was for something totally different than what the college was about .I’ve been going to this college for a week now and I’m mentally destroyed ,I can’t keep up because I lost years and years of maths and I just don’t understand a thing... I went to so many classes and I couldn’t even take notes properbly because AGAIN I was parallel to this subject .Everyone screams at me saying “You knew what you were getting into” but the truth is I didn’t ,I am freshly 18 ,my parents put me in school one year earlier than the other children btw and I am so confused right now ... I really want to go to college but I know for sure that this is not for me in this moment of my life because I literally cannot keep up .It would be okay if there were no tests or exams or exercises in front on the class but there are .They already started asking students to go in front of the class and solve problems for points ...my mom tells to just keep going but I told her it’s impossible because teachers want you to be present and learn all they teach and I can’t learn some complicated shit when I don’t know any pf the basics .If they pick me I wouldn’t solve shit there cause I’m clueless ...next month they announced a test already and I’m fuckec because there is no way I can catch up on 4 years of M1 mathematics and the one teached in college . I never been so scared in my life and my parents don’t understand because they keep saying that I should have it all figured out . I am so terrified ....I just try to calm myself by telling me that I can also enroll again ...I actually have classmates at this college that literally tried 3 colleges before ,others that took one year break to rediscover themselves ,others that are 40 ,30,46,39 etc. I know it is my mistake for getting in here but I also was clueless and I knew I wanted to do web design which I have done before and it doesn’t compare to the craziness we do here .Any advice would be well appreaciated 😭
So glad that you can talk about your experience! My parents and friends kind of coerced me into going to university even though i didnt really knew what i wanted. And bc i didnt want any big wholes in my CV i decided on the next best major for university. Big mistake. I started the same year as you and dropped out earlier this year. I couldnt handle learning about something that i didnt care about too much and my experience was so horrible i had a mental breakdown each semester. Dropping out was probably the best choice for me even though my mom didnt like that at all. Anyhow - in the beginning of dropping out i felt like a complete failure bc my friends all were able to continue and work through the struggle. It came to the point that i was too embarrassed to talk about it... i was so ashamed but knew i had to go on so i applied for vocational training and got in! Knowing that people go through similar situations makes the experience so much easier to endure. Thank you for talking about this💕 And good luck on YOUR path to success!! 💪
thank you for making a video like this! i think it's important to understand that we all have different paths, and that college may not be the choice for all of us! best wishes and i know you'll be so successful in your future endeavors jen! so proud!! :)
I am 100% with you on this. I’ve dropped out twice, though only once was due to my unhappiness at the school I was in. Ended up deciding to go back, and the second drop out came after being sexually assaulted. I moved back in with my grandparents and ended up taking classes I loved at the community college near me and really love the school and the environment and actually met the love of my life at said school!! I’m currently taking a semester (or maybe two) break to kind of get myself together and get a plan for my life, now that I’ve actually decided what it is I really want to do with my life (lol, maybe, it changes sometimes on the daily) but I know I want to work in retail or marketing, and either open my own clothing boutique or work for the big mouse in charge at one of the Disney parks :)
Hey Jen. I know I’m one of many in this comments section to support ur decision, but this really hits close to home. I really do support your decision. I look back on my four years of high school and see how hard I pushed often sacrificing sleep and my life in order to try and get everything done. Sometimes it really doesn’t seem worth it. Next year I’m starting college and i think I’m gonna start making an active effort to lighten my workload and focus on myself. So I’m glad u made a similar decision for your own happiness. Good luck with everything❤️
College is not for everyone. I think you did the right thing, you were not not happy, enjoying classes or the whole experience so I am glad you made the decision. I just hope that you keep learning, we are in the best time to learn new things without the need to spend a bunch of money. I have a full time job and go to college, not fun but I like my major so I keep going. Wish you the best in this new point of your life.
We are all here supporting you! You can always go back if you want. Either way, there's so much you can do without a degree that I am sure you will do an amazing job (like you have been doing for years here on RUclips) ❤️
I’m so thankful for this because I remember feeling jealous of your NYU experience and I always saw your uploads and labeled you as “The successful RUclipsr who also attends NYU” and without realizing it, I made myself feel like a failure or something lol. I’m so excited to see what you will do next!
@LizzieDeerest Plss don't think of yourself as it not really the best for you I'm kinda scared for college since I just started high school and British colleges or universities as they call it here are soo annoying
It was always a little strange, i loved your DIY videos and the transition to your university videos was bitter sweet, like something I couldnt achieve, but a type of life that I hoped i could have one day. I studied media too, and I sucked at it, but I didnt hate it. Im sad that it was so hard for you, but I have high hopes for the future. Itll be okay.
Yassss jen! Sometimes things that look good or seem like the definition of “success” isn’t right for everyone/isn’t someone living a successful life for themselves. You gotta live a good life but it has to be a good life for YOU that makes you happy and proud of yourself! So happy for you!
i am a third year at UCLA and I am honestly super proud of how brave you are. Trust me when I say you are not alone, and I along with other students can definitely relate to many aspects in this video. Also, I personally think you made the right decision dropping out of NYU because it is known amongst American students as the most expensive school in the country and the school with the WORST financial aid. UCLA's Communications department is really good so you can always transfer if you really want to continue, it is possible. There's also UCLA Extension Courses which is how my international friends took Comm classes on campus and all said they were super interesting. But college will always be there whether you chose to continue or not, I've met so many non-traditional students that come back to finish their degree decades after establishing their own lives.
This is so very relatable and common. I wish I had been given more practical advice about these things in school. I worked hard to get into university. I had these goals founded on ideals relating to the need to go to university to be successful. Life however is so much more varied and there are many other viable options which are so underrated. I dropped out of a degree to do something else. It has now been four years later and I totally don't regret it. All the best Jen and for those of you making or struggling with this decision.
thank you so much for opening up! I am an NYU student and I relate so much. I have considered dropping out, but I am instead going to graduate early thanks to my AP credits. I also was a transfer student so I literally will have only been at NYU a year and a half when I get my degree, but it is just so stressful and hard to balance everything here. I have a small youtube channel and I am getting my journalism career going so I fully understand how hard it is to balance everything. It has been a serious detriment to my mental health so I am glad you are doing what is best for you :) I am just trying to hang in there and cannot wait to be graduated so I can pursue my true passions more!
My heart is with you Jen! I'm about to graduate from my undergraduate degree and I'm having some serious heart palpitations about the big F word... The FUTURE. it's stressful! I'm just reminding myself that we don't need a 5 year plan ❤️ proud of you for standing up for what YOU need
Im so proud of you for following your passion. My parents won't let me drop out. Not when im about to graduate in july and trust me i've thought about leaving college in the past but i pushed thru and because of that i'm graduating in july
Mine too... I wanted to drop in my first and second year... time passed so quickly, and while I still dislike my major and I plan on to never working in this, I'm also graduating next year.
This isn’t to be rude or anything, just genuinely curious, if you had attended university in California do you think you would still be in this position? Or was school and RUclips together just overall not realistic? Regardless good luck to you Jen, I’ll still be watching your videos no matter what.
That's a pretty rhetorical question.. there is no way of knowing but california could have possibly been cheaper and ofc other things like teachers, challenges etc would be different
I mean, even if it's not realistic she can take 1 class a semester, which is better than doing none. She can even go to an online uni/college. She could easily get A's as well as paying substantially less. She's just looking for an easy out and just to not have to worry about it.
Thanks for being honest! I understand it can be hard to talk about this, because of all the expectations people have about school. But as long as you can reason why, I think its definatly worth a short to fully focus on YT
respect to you for creating this video, I honestly feel like at times I'm the only person that struggles with academics (even though that's not true, but I do feel that way). Never was I an outstanding academic person growing up especially. I've even had some teachers and professors tell me in a way that I'll never be successful and am not good enough because I kept getting bad grades. But here's the thing, what will make you successful in life will actually be on your personal decisions. School in a way will give you some success but where you go from there will depend on the choices you make. So whether you dropped out or never even went to school there's still an opportunity for you, don't believe that garbage most people tell you that the only way you'll get opportunities is through school... there's literally more options other than college. Something I thought I should share. So for you to make the hard decision was for your own good and that's alright. But thank you for making this video!
thank you so much for being so real and upfront about this! being from canada also, your videos about nyu really made consider the option of attending the school (even if it meant being in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt and the disappointment of my family). but I'm so glad you made this video because it really opened up my eyes to the endless possibilities that truly lie ahead after high school. so thank you! ily & ill always be here support u!!
Honestly I feel the exact same way. I’m only in my first semester but now I realize the reason I was so excited was because I wanted to experience. Seeing all these you tubers having fun I thought I could be like that. I’m debating whether or not I want to come back so I have a lot to think about during this break. Thanks Jen I’ll definitely continue to support you no matter what. ♥️♥️
I’m thinking of dropping out of college. I made a deal with my mom that if my grades were good for this semester and the next, she’ll continue paying for my education, but if I fail my classes, then I’d have to figure out the next step for myself. I’m already failing 4 out of the 5 classes I’m taking right now and the only way for me to pass them all is to get 100 or close to 100 on the final exams. If my final grades come out as failing, not only would I have to repeat those classes again, but my mom would pay more money for my education out of pocket because the payment plan she has for me is about to end and I don’t want to waste her money on me. I also don’t want to take out a loan and go through the burden of paying it back after college. On top of all that, I’m still figuring out what to do with my life. I attended a private university at first, but when COVID hit, I changed my major and transferred to a public one and now I’m on the brink of failing my classes that I’m starting to not have a passion for anymore. I basically wasted a lot of my mom’s money while I didn’t know what to do in life and I might continue doing that if I stay in university as I’m failing to get my s*** together. It’s not fair to me and it’s especially not fair to my mom. TLDR - I’m thinking of dropping out because I don’t know what to do in life and don’t wanna waste my mom’s money on me since she’s paying for my education
I just had to drop out of school for health reasons and it was scary!! but if doing so is gna make you happier/ healthier then it's a smart choice. we all take different paths, good luck with everything xx
I'm so happy but when i first read the title i got so scared but its alright i accept you cause you control your education so your not disappointing anyone from your subscribers because its alright we trust that this is the right decision
I’ve never heard someone sound so sad while saying “all of the classes that didn’t pertain to my degree.... I got all A’s” HAHA I get the necessary 60% needed for that class and I’m like YAS
Wow I actually JUST went through this like, a week ago. So I’m with you all the way. It can be hard and a little scary, trying to figure out what you want from your life. But you’re making the right choice. Taking a step back, taking a break, and re-evaluating. We can get through this together! I definitely miss my friends but we keep in touch. But I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone in doing this and that there are plenty others too! We’re with you all the way and I love how creative and funny your videos are! Keep being you Jen!
Yess!!! Community Colleges have like bad reputations but in reality they are the best to start in if you don't know what you want to major in or just save some money on general ed courses (this is based from my experience)
If you’re from California this isn’t a good idea. All of my friends kind of regret doing CC just because they’re so overcrowded and it’s so hard for them to get their classes. At least in SoCal. 😭
Azura Forestglen you can still go to mit if you go to community college... your degree isn’t going to say “graduated from mit (and community college”. it’s just going to say “graduated from mit”
This is super relatable. I'm in the liberal studies core program at NYU and taking prehealth classes and honestly I was so overworked and miserable. I definitely understand the whole, I don't even know why I am so miserable but I know I am. My mum is also advising me to transfer and leave NYU because she knows how ridiculous the workload is. I'm still convincing myself that its worth it to go back. I'm on medical leave right now so I have some time to think. But hey know you're not alone and I admire your courage for following your heart
I understand, this is my first year of college. But I attend community college, and I am confused on what I want to study. I’ve been watching your videos for so long and don’t feel bad. Do what makes you happy.
This was honestly so comforting to hear someone going through similar things with going/ not going to college.

College isn't for everyone, AND THAT'S OKAY. Don't apologise for not wanting to pursue college, there are other options out there.

I have a 3.5 rn and I feel: fucked. My goal was a 3.7 oop
If economics in uni makes you miserable the take away isn't necessarily that university isn't for you. I would also be miserable studying economics.

Charlotte M. Dude she helped me too get out of my anxiety thanks to her!!! ❤️
Jen. Hi.
I'm 20 years old (so I think we're like the same age??) and I completely relate. _ughihavesomuchtosayokay_
So I also dropped out of college with media classes and I was terrified to hear what people had to say about it.
My reason to drop out was that my mental health was seriously going down the drain and I couldn't even get myself to go there anymore.
So here's what I learned from that and wanted to share (obviously it's not the *exact* same situation but y'know-):
1. You are in charge!! You're an adult (legally at least, adulting _whaaat_ I know, same tbh) so you can make big decisions like these no matter what your family/friend/whoever says (unless it's the cops, seriously stay out of jail kids)
My family was 0% supportive of me dropping out and I ended up having to move into my own place; I can't stress enough how important it is to make decisions that make YOU happy! (Your no might make them angry but it will make you free)
But honestly-
And you are not alone."

This is amazing. Thank you for saying all this! I hope everything works out for you, and thank you so much for your support 💕

"People do go and end up miserable sacrificing their mental and physical health"
Sadly, this is true for me and it's is taking toll on my mental health since a year ago.
I'm not trying talk this issue to my parents or even my relatives because their only advice will be "Just finished it okay ?" .
glad to hear you making decisions based on your own wants and needs! :) I struggled with a lot of the same problems and hearing you talk about it helps a lot. you should always focus on your own wellbeing!! will always support you 💖💕
"And I got really bad grades" *goes on to say you got B+'s*

Good luck!
Hey Jen,

I never felt more miserable and lost in my entire life. This video made me happy realizing others and yourself go through the same type of feeling. Thank you once again.
we are gonna to support u, no matter what. we love u Jen
Ouch, I'm a Communications major..why doesn't he like us?
Imagine having that much money that you can just go to college for the experience
^ Good Point.

I dropped out of College as well because of my mental health. The school lacked resources and the staff lacked empathy.
I just re-enrolled into a better University with tons of resources and wonderful staff. I'm much happier now and I'm glad I made the decision I made.
You made one of best decisions of your life , Your mental health is so important, God bless you!
@@HenriqueSantos-ux5cu Thank you so much ❤ God bless you too 💓
This made me a little nervous because you are one of the reasons I applied to NYU!
Jenn hey!!! I’m so glad to hear that! what school are you in? I’ll be going to Gallatin next year :))
GIRL, YOU FREAKIN DO YOU, AM SO PROUD OF THE FACT THAT YOU CAN MAKE ALL THESE IMPORTANT DECISIONS FOR YOURSELF. I STAN
EARRRLLLYYYYY 💖 I support u no matter what Jen
I will love and support you forever!!! I am 13 so I don’t know how much stress and anxiety you are feeling but you’re such an inspiration to me to not do thing for OTHERS. I need to learn to do what I want to do. I’m only in eighth grade and college is already a source of stress, you showed me that college isn’t that big of a deal and how following your dreams is way more important.
We all support you fully 💕🎄
Brogan Algar Are You Still With Him, aka Owen?
HEYYY You're going to make it through. I just dropped out of school a few months ago too because i was miserable, and you know what? after the guilt is gone you're going to be fine, you are going to be happier and to thrive and girl let me tell you one thing : you ain't got no time for regrets in this life you did your best and you did what you needed and you are amazing. tell yourself that everyday. (it's ok to be confused and lost we are so young and thrown into a life we didn't chose)
School life is hard. And everything you are saying is understandable. I support you no matter what, you are amazing
thank you for making a video like this! i think it's important to understand that we all have different paths, and that college may not be the choice for all of us! best wishes and i know you'll be so successful in your future endeavors jen! so proud!! :)
This is SO relatable. The expectations that we place for ourselves can become so overwhelming.
I'm glad you are doing what makes you happy!
as a fellow asian, i understand the pressure on you. thank you for being open! good luck, you got this:)
I’m currently taking a semester (or maybe two) break to kind of get myself together and get a plan for my life, now that I’ve actually decided what it is I really want to do with my life (lol, maybe, it changes sometimes on the daily) but I know I want to work in retail or marketing, and either open my own clothing boutique or work for the big mouse in charge at one of the Disney parks :)
my man u still smarter than me
Very excited to see this video! Love you Jen! You’re such an amazing talented woman and we are all so proud of all you’ve done with your life
I’m so thankful for this because I remember feeling jealous of your NYU experience and I always saw your uploads and labeled you as “The successful RUclipsr who also attends NYU” and without realizing it, I made myself feel like a failure or something lol. I’m so excited to see what you will do next!
@LizzieDeerest
Plss don't think of yourself as it not really the best for you
I'm kinda scared for college since I just started high school and British colleges or universities as they call it here are soo annoying
I always joke with my friend to drop out of college and search for a sugar daddy..
Early! I was literally just watching the college day in my life + huge announcement! Timing was perfect
Yassss jen! Sometimes things that look good or seem like the definition of “success” isn’t right for everyone/isn’t someone living a successful life for themselves. You gotta live a good life but it has to be a good life for YOU that makes you happy and proud of yourself! So happy for you!
"and I would get really bad grades"
*goes on to talk about how she got all B+'s and A's *
I know kinda pissed me off
john wick hahaha I’m at NYU too so like ugh
When you compare yourself to like perfect students it feels that way.
i am a third year at UCLA and I am honestly super proud of how brave you are. But college will always be there whether you chose to continue or not, I've met so many non-traditional students that come back to finish their degree decades after establishing their own lives.
as a high school (Asian) sophomore stressing about college, thank you for reminding us that college doesn't determine how successful you are!
70k a year for a job making an average 50k a year is no worth it. You will be in debt for the rest of your life.
^ Bingo. Waste of $
thank you so much for opening up!
You should of changed your major if you hated the major you are in. Never study something you hate.
RoadtoLivia exactly
Right? She's too picky
I don’t go to NYU so I can’t give you my own experience but I’ve heard that they make it hard to transfer majors. Sorry it’s so late
Ella Caine it’s really not though and I go to NYU
My heart is with you Jen! I'm about to graduate from my undergraduate degree and I'm having some serious heart palpitations about the big F word... The FUTURE. it's stressful! I'm just reminding myself that we don't need a 5 year plan ❤️ proud of you for standing up for what YOU need
Im so proud of you for following your passion. My parents won't let me drop out. Not when im about to graduate in july and trust me i've thought about leaving college in the past but i pushed thru and because of that i'm graduating in july
Mine too... I wanted to drop in my first and second year... time passed so quickly, and while I still dislike my major and I plan on to never working in this, I'm also graduating next year.
thanks for being real jen! stay healthy and be happy! we love u
This isn’t to be rude or anything, just genuinely curious, if you had attended university in California do you think you would still be in this position? Or was school and RUclips together just overall not realistic? Regardless good luck to you Jen, I’ll still be watching your videos no matter what.
Vanessa Handy That’s a good question, I hope she answers
That's a pretty rhetorical question.. there is no way of knowing but california could have possibly been cheaper and ofc other things like teachers, challenges etc would be different
I mean, even if it's not realistic she can take 1 class a semester, which is better than doing none. She can even go to an online uni/college. She could easily get A's as well as paying substantially less. She's just looking for an easy out and just to not have to worry about it.
Thanks for being honest! I understand it can be hard to talk about this, because of all the expectations people have about school. But as long as you can reason why, I think its definatly worth a short to fully focus on YT
“im not gonna cry today” me every single day
respect to you for creating this video, I honestly feel like at times I'm the only person that struggles with academics (even though that's not true, but I do feel that way).
No hate, but couldn't she have switched to a different major if she didn't like the major she was doing?
Jaya Ravi kinda wondering that too.. sis just dropped $140,000
@@locketofsunshine she was technically an international student but idk
chello fr
It seems like she just wanted the LA movie college experience lol. Which, even in LA, isn't actually what college is like.
Jaya Ravi and to a different school $70k a year? Wtf
thank you so much for being so real and upfront about this! being from canada also, your videos about nyu really made consider the option of attending the school (even if it meant being in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt and the disappointment of my family). but I'm so glad you made this video because it really opened up my eyes to the endless possibilities that truly lie ahead after high school. so thank you! ily & ill always be here support u!!
Me when I fail a test
Citlalli Ramirez 😂 same
sameeee!
Thanks for sharing Jen!! I´m very proud of you. Hope you´ll find happiness and stability soon. Your channel is fire, and so are you!
I’ve never heard someone sound so sad while saying “all of the classes that didn’t pertain to my degree.... I got all A’s” HAHA I get the necessary 60% needed for that class and I’m like YAS
This video is soooo relatable. It’s talks so much about decision making, acceptance, and disappointment. Thank you for posting this Jennifer! ❤️
3.7 gpa must be so nice LMAO
Wow I actually JUST went through this like, a week ago. So I’m with you all the way. It can be hard and a little scary, trying to figure out what you want from your life. But you’re making the right choice. Taking a step back, taking a break, and re-evaluating. We can get through this together! I definitely miss my friends but we keep in touch. But I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone in doing this and that there are plenty others too! We’re with you all the way and I love how creative and funny your videos are! Keep being you Jen!
My friends, this is why its good to start at a community college FIRST
YES!
No ew I want to go to MIT
I appreciate your channel and have been watching for some time, you’re an inspiration and such a wonderful person!! Wherever life takes you is okay, and we will be here to support you no matter what ❤️
