For example train no. 12972 Bhavnagar terminus Bandra terminus superfast express runs from Bandra Terminus to Ahmedabad Junction with electric locomotive and handed over to diesel locomotive from Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar Terminus.

You didn’t tell the main reason for changing the locomotives: Indian railway is divided into divisions. We a train moves from one division to another they change the locomotive. Like moving from Central Railway to Northern Railway etc
Previously, it used to be the case that the loco didn't move out of the division to avoid servicing issues. But now, there are some instances where the loco goes very far out of its home division. I have seen multiple cases of GZB WAP 7 locos on branch line duty in SCR after they had come in from a Rajdhani and are waiting for the next northbound train.

Pahle Sealdah-Ballia exp ke locomotive ko Barouni jnc. Me badla jata tha kyo ki Barouni ke baad electrified tracks nahi the lekin ab yah dikkat khatm ho gayi hai to ab ek hi locomotive se journy pura kiya jata hai.....

One question regarding this. For long routes, can diesel engines complete it's journey, minding their max capacity of fuel tank?
No. A WDP -4 model Diesel loco by EMD cannot complete a very very long journey. It' max fuel capacity is 5000-6100 L of diesel. It's mileage is under normal running conditions (90kmph) 400 L per 100 km and idling at 25 L/h. The mileage changes, accordingly with speed also. (Automatic transmission). So, you can understand by this information that, it needs refuelling at intervals, it cannot continue at a stretch. But for distances like 1000 km, it's like cutting a piece of cake for it. 🚂🚂😎😎
@@abhijitsen6723 I think that is why some 10 min halts in diesel routes (at big stations) are used to refuel diesel locos, especially if the loco had run for a very long distance. I saw an instance when the diesel loco for Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani was refueled at Panvel Junction after completing the Konkan Railway run.

Amit bhai ek aur reason hai. Yeh Mumbai aane waali train.aur Mumbai se bahar jaane waali train. Igatpuri mein aksar dekha jaata tha ki koi bhi electric locomotive 20kv AC (WAM ya WAP) ko change karke BHEL ki WCAM DC loco lagaya jaata tha Mumbai ki taraf jaane ke liye. Ulti disha mein yeh prakriya reverse ho jata tha. Khair ab yeh nazara nahi dikhne ko milta kyunki ab Mumbai tak 20kv lines beecha ja chuki hai!

you are doing a great job for Indian commuters and tourists as it helps to curb your anger when some nonsense things happen en route where we always feel bad about railway administration. Safety is the most important factors where no judgement is allowed but a fool proof procedure. Common people do not know those procedures.
