What you show here is a pedal played into what might be one of the best sounding amps on the planet, played by an outstanding tastefull guitarplayer. No wonder it sounds so good!
Got a Secret Preamp this week. For me, it's like a semi-eq-able amp Fat switch. I use the Mid setting. Fattens up a clean or low gain tone. Plays well with a Dumble pedal and/or the Strymon Deco's Saturation, in addition to modulation effects.
Thanks, Matt, for an outstanding demo. I prefer hearing a guitar played with some chutzpah. Digging in really gave me an accurate rendering of how different settings and dynamics effect the signal. I just got my pedal in yesterday’s mail. We’re supposed to get hit with substantial snow storm today, so I’ll get to spend some quality time with it. BTW, that’s a very impressive rig you’ve got there. Seeing the Trainwreck brought a tear to my eye. I grew up in central NJ, about a five-minute drive to Ken Fischer’s shop. During the early nineties I made several visits to that magical place, and eventually bought my first Marshall head from him, a ‘68 100 watt Plexi. Not long after that, he sold me a 1964 Deluxe that he hot-rodded. It was my main workhorse amp for over ten years. I still have it. Losing Ken was quite a blow for all of us who got to know him. Anyway, thanks again for your help. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Bill! Appreciate the support and the stories of Ken. He was a true genius and is gravely missed around here. Glad to have helped with the pedal too. Love Kyle and his great work. Rock on my friend and keep in touch for sure!
I've got a buddy down in Las Vegas that has the most killer Pink Floyd tribute band and I asked him of all the pedals that he uses and he's got two full-on pedal boards he said the chase secret preamp was the one! I bought it and damn if he was not right! If you're on the fence about something that's going to boost your sound, thicken it up and give it that Echoplex ep3 kind of vibe this is your pedal and it does it better than any of the other ones that I have tried. Jump in man, the water is fine!
Do a video on the Echoplex also. Can they still be found? What is the difference in those and the new Dunlop ones? I have not heard or seen much about the older ones, not seen anyone playing them around here.
Found yes, but only vintage units used around 1k-1.9k. Many people including famous ones not gig them(there are a very few exceptions today) because they are quite fragile for touring and you have to maintenance them which not that many offer.
Killer amp, killer player, and killer pedal. But what is with the constant ear blistering string buzzing? I don't think it is the guitar setup and string buzzing, but maybe a case of overloading the digital recording ? Something is distorting noticeably so maybe check the input recording levels ?
Thanks so much Rob! Appreciate the support here. Yeah I know, I'm a lower action guy for sure. Sometimes the extra buzz bothers me too but I love the way it feels for me so I'll take the hit. Sometimes it comes across and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately here it did. Anyway, thanks for chiming in
He did use the ec80 for the solo on atomic punk and the end of eruption. I did a video on that unit. I have one that works when it feels like it. I guess Eddie’s back then being new was more reliable. And actually according to my years of research, he did use an echoplex model ep3 like jimmy page did too. You can see jimmys in the song remains the same footage. I went to the MET in NYC to see Eddie’s rig displayed. There wasn’t an echoplex displayed but it did mention it in the signs. Not sure how original the display really was, but it was neat to see his world from back then. There’s a bunch of old eddie rig photos with 2 echoplex’s in them. Anyway, it’s still my favorite delay and no pedal can imitate it. Thanks for watching
Im confused on the settings of this thing cus the description on his site is a bit confusing : 10-11 unity gain, 2 o clock MAX DB BOOST, 10/all the way 1-2db boost, so this means diming the knob doesnt give you max gain/db?
Where in USA is this pedal made? What about Trainwreck amps? Sounds about the same a sif you just turned the amp up more. Wouldnt it sound just like this if you turned the amp up higher?
Hi Michael. They are made in PA. Trainwreck has always been made in NJ. The wreck volume comes on strong and then just breaks up more as you increase it, so turning it up will only give you more overdrive. The pedal does work great with an already working tube amp being pushed.
Ha, yes the amp is truly incredible. So far all of the pedals I've reviewed for season 3 worked real well with the rocket. I did try an old Big Muff and I couldn't use it. Really and match. So I guess not all pedals work. Anyway, thanks for the support!
wow Matt you are 3 for 3 on these last few for pedals/accessories I happen to own. coincidence? or do I own so many pedals the statistical likelihood is not that high. anyway this is a cool pedal but I dont really like the echoplex thing for myself (sort of like tremolo, love listening to other people use it, hate playing with it). Works great with an El Capistan to emulate an echoplex though; much better than the Catalinbread pedals IMO. in the end I prefer both straight ahead analog and digital rather than trying to chase but more power to the guys who love it.
I feel like Im somewhat negative on these, but it's more the case they don't really fit in with my shtick, I do like the content a lot. If you had a Chase Bliss Tonal recall coming up Id be real positive about that lol.
total understand! Finding your own path is the best path taken. I love hearing some people play a Taylor, but I hate playing one myself. Not for me at all. Monday is the Fuzz Fella from Chase. Hope you dig that. I got a bunch more videos for next week. Not mainstream pedals at all. Let's see how the views/comments do. Tune in tonight here for our live couch concert. 7pm

Thanks so much! Trainwreck is my favorite. Nothing like them. Appreciate the comment and the support!

Nice Rusty! I really dig it too. Hope the video helped

Awesome to hear! Yes, Kyle is a buddy of mine. His stuff is killer. I love the preamp. And echoplexes. I still use a 70's ep3.
I’ve never heard the legendary trainwreck before, and good god 😂 it sounds more upfront and full out than anything i’ve ever heard.
They definitely do. Like the sound is coming from in front of the speaker cone. True an honest. Thanks for watching!

Are the strings just laying on the frets of that strat? Thanks for the demo, pedal sounds great (also the amp!)
Not that low! Ha. But I do like lower action than most others. Thanks for watching
actually scratch that, its definitely the strat action setup causing that
Eddie vanhalen did not use an echoplex he used a Univox EC80.

It doesn't. Beyond 3 o'clock gives you the sound of a worn out EchoPlex.
Sounds like it would do better with dark Pickups

yes, nice pedal, but wtf the amp?!?!?!? I'll bet every boost pedal sounds great with this amp.
