Mike, I’m a big fan of your presentation style. There’s loads of people who dive deep into the technicals of gear when they demo it, and that’s great and very useful, but can also be too much info to take in at once. But when you explain something I understand it like I’m having a casual conversation from a friend, not a teacher, and that goes a long way to get the message across
@@Guitargate This sound you are demonstrating occurs in the outro of the Rush song "Working Man" at 6:39. I didn't really know that it was a sound that was difficult to get, I just know that the first time I heard it come out of my soldano astroverb I was floored that I had THAT sound! I'm not sure what pedal was engaged, but I use a Blues Driver for a tiny level boost for rhythm playing and I use a 2005 Barber Direct drive for soloing. Respectfully, in my experience, expensive guitars are not required. However, expensive tube amps ARE. ;) Nice playing, man!
Michael, you are lit up like a Christmas tree here with your facial expressions! Love that for starters. Sounds killer, my friend. This truly made my day. Thanks dude. 🤘🏽
Michael..you have changed my life so much. I can never play guitar even close to professionals..I am a sax player and will always be..but even if I don't get the details of your analysis, I get the gist. I have learned that the 3rd is the function of all that matters. I struggle with circle of fifths and other theory. I can play any song in any key that is played on my sax--but I could never teach it..its just something I feel. You are able to do that and I am in awe of your skill. Thank you for every analysis you do.
I played saxophone in high school and gave up after high school because I was so annoyed that I could not play along by ear with Kenny G, and could only play from music. Unbelievably I knew almost nothing about key signatures because they didn't teach it in anywhere in grade 5 through grade 11. When hearing SRV forced me to get a stratocaster when I was 20 so that I could play like that, I chose to not get guitar lessons so that I could learn to play lead by ear. It was slow going but I was pretty good after 3 years since you don't need to know any theory to play by ear on a linear instrument. I learned all the music theory in college classes a few years later and, while I do apply it to my chord playing, I still don't think a thing when I shred on guitar. Having played sax, I am always AMAZED at how wind instrument players can play by feel in the moment while applying key signatures to what they are doing. The guitar is the easy instrument! You're doing the hard stuff! I have never needed to apply the circle of fifths to playing anything on guitar.
I just want to let you know that I love watching your channel. You are so authentic and have a zeal and passion that is infectious. I just wanted to let ya know. Your videos make my evenings. Thanks
I was always amazed by Gary Moore’s ability to control his guitar and amp at ear bleeding volume. The thing was dimes and every twitch of a nose hair would be audible and he still played so clean.
This was just GREAT to watch today. I blasted my sound system so I could really get into the tone that you're talking about, which was outstanding, even secondhand. Hopefully, your neighbors like a little rock/blues lead with their Sunday activities. Take care man.
I agree with everyone's comments about you, personally. You have a very relaxed style, and your enthusiasm for guitar and great playing is infectious. That tone was great, but not really what I shoot for. For me, it's typically Neal Schon, Santana and Gilmour lead tones. Europa is the lead tone that gives me goosebumps every single time.
