Gentrification ruined my city in Colorado and now prices match California. I am looking for a more affordable cost of living. Gentrification also ruined the welcoming kind attitudes of my home city in Fort Collins, and now the place is unrecognizable...
Honestly, the small town feel is still here, but not in the way you describe. The small town feel is still prevalent through all the nepotism and cronyism in San Antonio's job market.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri and I’m thinking of moving to Texas to start over and San Antonio is where one of my friends moved to so i may choose there
@joenguyen9077 We welcome you with open arms! I come from a huge military family so even though I was born at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix I always considered San Antonio my hometown. I have alot of family here and lived here for over 30 years. I absolutely love San Antonio because it's just a melting pot of cultures. Even though it's predominantly Hispanic you can find literally every culture living here. I've lived in different countries and different states in the US but San Antonio has always been my home. I just hate the heat lol.
@@andrewgoss6486 No, sir. I wanted to know. What's the biggest difference for you that makes you say that? Opportunities, work, network, family, education?
@SaritaBizZenBOPPin I primarily moved to SA because of the diversified, long-term economic growth. Michigan is a state in decline with a declining economy, high taxes that are increasing, high cost of living that is increasing, and a state budget on the verge of collapse due to Granholm and Whitmer intentionally chasing out the people who provide the bulk of the tax revenue. I prefer the warmth over the heat, palm trees over potholes, sunny days over gray skies, and freedom over constant government encroachment. I don't miss the high crime, blight, and poverty of Detroit. I prefer peace, beauty, and potential. Texas is what California once was: the land of opportunity. Texas is what America should be.
Pro: the numerous annual festivals like Fiesta San Antonio, Stock Show and Rodeo, Texas Folklife Festival, Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony. Pro: Heritage, Mission Trail. Pro: Higher Education - many colleges and universities. Pro: Food!!! Tex Mex, Texas BBQ.
As a Houstonian currently living in Omaha I can’t agree more on the cold weather not being fun at all. Snow is cool for about 24-48 hours…..after that you’ll HATE it lol
Lackland is one of the better Airforce base locations too! Were hoping to get stationed there and buy a house ourselves since, as you said, the market is the best there compared to almost any where!
Hello there, I appreciate this video. I'm a native Texan, born and raised here in San Antonio. The saddest thing for me as a mom of 2, is how bad the crime is here now. It worries me everyday. The fact that my home city is getting to the point of being unrecognizable makes my heart sad. It is getting far too big.
Coming to Texas from the beautiful Pacific Northwest with mild winters, took me a while to get use to the heat. It can be a complete drought for an entire month, but yet high humidity, I never understood! I had Texas pride until I got my first tax bill! Lol😂 We still maintain a residence in the Pacific Northwest. We usually go there from June to August , we’re sunbirds go up north for some heat relief. 😅
I agree with most of your pros and cons but one HUGE con that somehow didn't make the list are the wages. They are pretty low for a city of this size, and not just for service positions but across the board. I wouldn't recommend moving here unless you're in a specific field (example: medical/military) or work from home for a company that pays more then local companies do. The cost of living isn't low enough to justify the depressed wages, especially with recent inflation.
I always find wage averages to be misleading. Of course it has a ton to do with the demographics overall but I know of multiple fast food restaurants in and around the city starting off their pay at $15/hr. I also have friends and family working in warehouses that make $22-$25/hr. I agree that it’s overall lower but it has a lot to do with the lack of large corporate positions compared to Austin, Dallas, or Houston in my opinion.
Insane heat brings big anxiety. Ever get the feeling you don’t belong somewhere.. me, Mexico burning 2 months. Saharan dust, allergies out of control. For my health I need to move
I’m considering moving here I’m from Memphis we are top 1 for the most dangerous city to live in so I’m sure I can adapt from my experiences in my own city I plan on visiting first my sister lives in Houston

Definitely. But comparatively speaking. Still nothing compared to Houston or some of the other areas closer to the coast. And from someone who's lived here awhile, October was pretty mild compared to the last couple years and the weather has been great so far in November!
I was preparing to come for a trip in December so I was in the Mighty Midwest in October, freezing 🥶, no snow but I needed all kinds of layers to stay warm. Where'd you come from?
As someone who drives all around this city for work, nobody on these "San Antonio explained" videos ever seems to talk about how large portions of the city look dilapidated/run down. It is an old city, I get it, but a lot of it is just people not taking care of their neighborhoods. Also there are stray animals everywhere. It is common to see packs of dogs roaming around in certain areas. I like San Antonio, don't get me wrong, but you need to talk about it.
San Antonio is going through an identity crisis right now. The locals who have been here for years describe SA as if it was Orson, Indiana (the fake small town on The Middle). The transplants (from all across the country, not just CA) see a city with crazy potential, but it's that "small town" mindset that is keeping SA from becoming fully-realized as a city.
Good Lord you said it! We lived in North Idaho for a bit over a year and I HATE it!!! Soooo freezing 🥶 8 months out of a year! Hate, hate, HATE the cold snowy freezing bitter wind weather!!!! Ahhhhh I will take the death heat and humidity any day 🤣
I've been visiting my tio at San Antonio for years i can definitely see the cons growing up but hey you can't let that stop you frm having your own kind of fun away from the crowds and heat, plus i have environmental allergies so im more miserable inside rather than outside
The allergies is a rough one. I’ve even heard of people who moved here and their allergies were so bad they weren’t able to stay. What were some of the pros you saw visiting here?
@@LifeinSATX what is it that makes the allergies so bad? I use to live in Arizona and my allergies were never that bad there. I live in myrtle beach south Carolina and my allergies and sinuses are always bad here. Just wondering what it is in san Antonio that causes these issues with people
@seantrader2422 it’s mostly the cedar that gets people. Cedar Fever is a real thing. It’s not that it affects everyone but the ones that do get it bad have it really bad.
@@LifeinSATX Ive never heard of that before. I visited San Antonio once and I loved it and had always thought about moving to Texas one day. I don’t want to have bad allergies though since I suffer from that here in South Carolina. Never know till I visit again I suppose.

I want that hat "Life in SATX". Where can I get it? Overall a good, informative video. A Con is the traffic between SA and Austin on I-35. Hoping that one day they will widen I-35. But as you said, lots of good things about living in a city with a small town feel. Lots of nice people. I love the River Walk and the Spurs. Great restaurants and always good music playing downtown. Love SA!
There are so many implants here anywhere in the city takes 30 minutes during the weekday. No longer has small town vibe with close to 2.6 million in Metro.
Great video! And I honestly agree with everything you said. I moved to SA in 2020 from Las Vegas. I loved that it had the “small town” feeling but now it’s way too crowded for me. The traffic sometimes is terrible and the crime and homelessness is getting worse by the minute. Do you recommend any smaller cities in TX?
My parents and I will be visiting San Antonio to see the Alamo and do the Riverwalk. What else is there to see in San Antonio? The cons of San Antonio sound like any other city : traffic, being too crowded and extreme heat. I'm from Canada where its too cold. Ive also been to the Sahara derert where its hotter than San Antonio.
Have you been driving around some of the areas you like? Areas that look like what you want? That give the feel you seek? Those would be some cool ways to get real life opinions of your new potential home 🏡 areas.
He can't really legally do that as an agent, but there's ways he can still help. You can research it many ways though. I'm a real estate agent as well currently trying to move back to Texas from AZ. Doesn't make sense for me to be a Texas Real estate agent and not be there. Lol
Been here 4 months. Ive lived in the Valley, Houston, Dallas and now San Antonio. Zombie hordes of homeless. Its also very poor and ugly looking in many places. Trucks always ride your car and dont obey traffic laws. The construction is exceptionally poorly planned and your roads and lay out are both ugly and dangerous. The biggest pro having lived from the canadian to mexican border is the warm and kind people. Almost moved back to Dallas but the people won me over 100%. My job pays well which also helped.
100% agree with comment about the kind people here. That’s one of my favorite things as well. Idk about homeless comment though. I see a few here and there downtown but that’s it. I also 100% disagree with the poor and ugly comment. Every city in the world has its impoverished areas unfortunately. That’s just the way of the world but making a generalization like that isn’t accurate at all.
@kencreel5660 I don’t think that says anything about crime in San Antonio specifically. Leaving stuff in the back of a truck is going to lead to people potentially stealing it. Job sites are constantly having things stolen from them no matter where you are. You could be in the best neighborhood in the safest suburb and that could happen. I’ve seen it first hand being a commercial project manager before I got into real estate. And I’ve lived here my entire life, have always driven a nicer truck, and have never had it broken into or had anything stolen from it. I don’t think it’s fair to make assumptions after two experiences you had.
I have best of both worlds because I live in nb but I have the choices between quiet calm atmosphere to go out or the opposite by going out in sa. I wouldn't live in sa ever, I'm a small country girl so used to dirt country roads lol. But I'll never not stop thinking bout sa to go visit.
Ok let’s keep it real. There are pockets of nice areas here in SA, mostly just the north side. Majority of the city is trashy. My job is the only thing keeping me here.
Californin here 24 yo man I’m tired of California I worked in tx for a year in the Odessa area (oilfields) got laid off I’m currently enrolled into school rn in a few years god willing I’ll move out of Cali and move to Tx.
Yes, Texas is hot. Texas can be humid and yes, we have lots of bugs but that’s why they made bug spray. I’m a proud Texan. Every state has his pros and cons up north you freeze other states you have other problems such as flooding in hurricanes, Texas has the heat I would rather deal with the heat than the cold. They have clothing for that purpose. I have per pound that living in Fort Worth. I have not had any problems here. Again, I’m a proud person and proud to be part of Texas and the Texas pride so if you don’t like Texas, there’s other places to live, but I can tell you I’d rather deal with the warmth than the cold. I got shoveling snow because I am from up north of originally and I’m quite frankly I prefer the sunshine humidity you can always get indoors is air conditioning everywhere.
Umm... Their isn't much to do in San Antonio. It's boring as hell. It's a great city to move too if you want to raise a family, settle down/retire in but thats about it. If you want to date, socialize and have fun in the night life then I reccomend moving to Austin, Houston or Dallas. Those citys have WAY more things to do than SA. Trust me! lol.
Which areas are safe affordable family friendly to live?? Does it get very cold there?? Do you have crocodiles problems, love bugs?? Scorpion??What are the properties taxes on a average?? Does it hail in all texas?? Flood?? Is more humid or dry? Is there tornados, hurricane?? How's the health insurance ??
don't move to Texas or San Antonio if you are moving from the north of the country. Too hot and has the worst humidity 24/7 half of the year, plus too much traffic. They are things or places to visit, but you can't because of the heat and humidity. I miss Colorado,
As a religious person, what’s the church scene like? I’m a conservative evangelical Christian (and Reformed in the vein of people like John Piper, John MacArthur, Don Carson, Tim Keller, to name a few). Thanks in advance!
There really is a huge melting pot of all different types of churches. If you like the large mega churches, we have a few of those with Cornerstone and CBC and there are also great, smaller churches on every corner! We found our church home in a small town close to where we live and we love it. No matter what type you’re looking for, you’ll be able to find it.
I will say in the past 20 years San Antonio leans more liberal than conservative…we’re about 60/40. Austin is 90/10! This is based off city government and voting statistics. As a family of unorthodox Jews we love the melting pot of people and diversity and point of views. Unfortunately, if you’re looking for a conservative venue, you would probably need to consider places like Corpus Christi or Lubbock, Texas, which have stagnant economies and not a lot to offer.
People come from all over the world to heard Pastor John Hagee preach at his amazing Cornerstone Church. There are countless evangelical congregations in multiple languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Korean, Vietnamese etc.)
A major con is the huge loose dog problem, thousands of dogs being killed on roads annually due to this and the large number of heartless residents dumping their dogs at animal control with a total lack of responsibility.
I'm looking for land in SATX to have our family team go out and pick up the animals and hopefully get them adopted. If not, we'd love for them to live out their days with us, we'll have vet assistance, hopefully soon. I'm looking to help unhoused folk, too, because then they can help with the animals we save, help us care for them and earn a small stipend and live in one of 20 tiny homes
New follower here✌️ SA and TX over all is so beautiful ❤ The people are warming and very nice over all. So you’re a realtor? I’m planning to move to SA within a year. Most likely I’ll be moving to an apt. Either way I might contact you on ways to buy a home.
@chriseric8319 🤣😂😂🤣 I know, right woke California capital, right? I'm a moderate conservative and to be honest, a lot of these California is this and that are usually the few. California is the best example of why I do my research on other states before making up my opinions. The woke might be a northern California thing I guess?. I live in San Diego buddy. Almost perfect weather, beautiful beaches, nice mountains and lakes, lots of things to do, and the woke stuff? Never seen it. People leave you alone unless you bother them (like anywhere else). Never seen one pride or some woke whatever being pushed and shoved to my face and I've been here since 2005. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ oh one more, I monitor my kids school curriculum closely and no crazy woke shit happening.
@allstar2709 . Every state has their good and bad parts. Military took me to alot of places but by far, San diego is close to perfect, for me. The best part, NO WOKE shit.
It's mainly safe. Most of the crime is East of downtown, South of downtown, and West of downtown. But maybe only about 5 miles in each direction. Once u get to about 8-10 miles in those directions away from downtown you'll be fine in all other parts of San Antonio
This statistic has more to do with geography, districting, and department coverage areas than it does with your safety or the chance of you being a crime victim in SA. I know for a fact it is far more dangerous in some small towns around the state than it is anywhere within SA. Of course, crime has risen in SA over the years, and it jumps in spurts after every disaster brings a flood of new people. Like everywhere, if you act like a victim and/or don't practice situational awareness you'll likely end up a victim, if you hang with criminals or invite criminals into your home you'll likely be criminalized, or if you act like an ass to people or are just plain stupid you're more likely to be a victim. Be nice, play safe, act responsibly, you'll be fine.
San Antonio is a beautiful city. I would love to love there. I have just one question, is San Antonio a city that embraces ethnic diversity, i.e., people of color.
What parts of San Antonio metro have lots of Conservatives /Republicans live at? Sick of Colorado and Californians bring their BS Politics and BS to Colorado..
I would say No, you might get looks but too many people carry firearms in this state to go around attacking people for wearing a trump hat. Now if you were in college, possibly, because our local colleges like UTSA are extremely liberal and border on communist. But outside of that, I think you’re good.
That did not quite answer my question. My question was, " is San Antonio a city that embrace ethnic diversity. We live in a diverse world and I believe that people of different ethnic back grounds should get to know each other. Oh yes, I might point out that there is no such thing as "RACE". It's the "Human Race". Also, would you believe, it is a fact, all humans are the same color yes, some just have more melanin than others. Also, there are no inferior or superior humans, we are all equal in the eye of God. A fact substantiated and verified by leading cultural and social anthropologist. Shalom.

I’ve lived here all my life and we have a dog problem that never stops.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri and I’m thinking of moving to Texas to start over and San Antonio is where one of my friends moved to so i may choose there
Same! I'm from KCMO as well
@joenguyen9077 We welcome you with open arms!
❤ KC born & raised but ready to transplant to SA
I agree with this list. I am from Detroit, but i have lived here for over 10 years.
You chose San Antonio, Texas over Detroit?
So, you like SATX 👍🏾? More than Detroit?🤔
@@SaritaBizZenBOPPin was that sarcasm? Lol. SATX definitely has more to offer me than DET.
Con:so hot you can't stand it.
As a Houstonian currently living in Omaha I can’t agree more on the cold weather not being fun at all. Snow is cool for about 24-48 hours…..after that you’ll HATE it lol
I'm also from Omaha and I hate it here lol. If I were to move San Antiono is my first choice. I love the hot weather.
I hope you can push out the hate for 🌨⛄️❄️ and come be in some sun in SATX 🇨🇱🌞🫂
Thanks for making this video. I like the information. I may be moving your way next year.
Lackland is one of the better Airforce base locations too! Were hoping to get stationed there and buy a house ourselves since, as you said, the market is the best there compared to almost any where!
Yes, yes. As a Navy baby, I support your family and your wishes. Thanks for your service 🙏🏾🤗
That area is ghetto
Hello there, I appreciate this video. I'm a native Texan, born and raised here in San Antonio. The saddest thing for me as a mom of 2, is how bad the crime is here now. It worries me everyday. The fact that my home city is getting to the point of being unrecognizable makes my heart sad. It is getting far too big.
Coming to Texas from the beautiful Pacific Northwest with mild winters, took me a while to get use to the heat. It can be a complete drought for an entire month, but yet high humidity, I never understood!
I had Texas pride until I got my first tax bill! Lol😂
We still maintain a residence in the Pacific Northwest. We usually go there from June to August , we’re sunbirds go up north for some heat relief. 😅
I love SAT
You're right, the Pacific Northwest is beautiful.
"I had Texas pride until I got my first tax bill!" 😂😂 I heard it's really high here but the housing market is good? 🤔
What kind of work are you currently doing? Ever thought of REI? For some people, they just have to connect to the right people.
Insane heat brings big anxiety. Ever get the feeling you don’t belong somewhere.. me, Mexico burning 2 months. Saharan dust, allergies out of control. For my health I need to move
I hope you feel better and find your place of peace and relief soon🙏🏾

It was very humid and hot when we visited in October.
@@SaritaBizZenBOPPin I was visiting from Pueblo West Colorado
Thanks this video is super informative. I live in Michigan and Im visiting in June. I’m considering eventually moving to Texas.
Yes it's pretty ghetto
This guy is a biased realtor trying to sell upmarket housing.
It’s horrible for stray dogs, very sad
San Antonio is going through an identity crisis right now. The locals who have been here for years describe SA as if it was Orson, Indiana (the fake small town on The Middle). The transplants (from all across the country, not just CA) see a city with crazy potential, but it's that "small town" mindset that is keeping SA from becoming fully-realized as a city.
What's your take on it?
Good Lord you said it! We lived in North Idaho for a bit over a year and I HATE it!!! Soooo freezing 🥶 8 months out of a year! Hate, hate, HATE the cold snowy freezing bitter wind weather!!!! Ahhhhh I will take the death heat and humidity any day 🤣
ty this helped me learn abt san antonio cuz my gf lives there and i went there only like 2 times but yeah ty man.
Some great advice here. 👍🏾What made you watch this video? I'm learning about REI in SATX.

It was good seeing you at Camelot today I'm your good friend that sent you to your table today
@@LifeinSATX I have a tio who's a cop, good housing and jobs a plenty

Love SA!
San Antonio needs more Asian businesses it pales in comparison with Dallas, Austin, Houston. Need a bigger airport also
There are so many implants here anywhere in the city takes 30 minutes during the weekday.
@@BoucherYe nahhh. Get out of my comment.

San Antonio has nothing on Las Vegas.
Do you prefer SATX areas more than Las Vegas❓️
Boerne is fantastic.
Canada 🇨🇦, sounds cool 😎. I have some Filippino 🇵🇭 and Jamaican🇯🇲 family there, not sure where exactly 🤔
Hello
Can you please list a few towns where crime is low and with good schools.
I think there may still be one in Norway, and there are still a couple in Greenland. You'll need to hurry, though.
@@RoySATXLol
If you want low crime and good schools, you have to make enough money to live in areas where you’ll find that. To be completely honest.
Lol

Me too from Missouri!
Trying to find a Job in SA so I can move back texas is the best place I've lived my mom was an airforce recruiter so we moved around a lot
Just know where to live and what to do'

The heat is a pro!
If you want to be a victim of Road rage come here
Great info thank you! I would only suggest talking a little bit slower😂
Yeah - Crime ! Every time I was there I had something stolen from me. Be careful!
Really? How? I really find that hard to believe.
I was only there twice but the first time they stole a box my things out of the back of my truck. Second time was tools from a job site.
Good info but you spoke a little too quickly...
I have best of both worlds because I live in nb but I have the choices between quiet calm atmosphere to go out or the opposite by going out in sa. I wouldn't live in sa ever, I'm a small country girl so used to dirt country roads lol. But I'll never not stop thinking bout sa to go visit.
What's NB? I like dirt roads, too, in big trucks with lifts on them 🛻😍
Ok let’s keep it real.
Good luck in school, see you in a few years!
You can’t wear shorts and a t-shirt in Texas, because of the bugs.
What kind of bugs? 🤔 New here so I wanna know.
Trust me! lol.

don't move to Texas or San Antonio if you are moving from the north of the country. Too hot and has the worst humidity 24/7 half of the year, plus too much traffic. They are things or places to visit, but you can't because of the heat and humidity. I miss Colorado,

How hot in San Antonio? It reach to how much degree?

San Antonio is the 2 dangerous city in tx.??
It's mainly safe. Most of the crime is East of downtown, South of downtown, and West of downtown. But maybe only about 5 miles in each direction. Once u get to about 8-10 miles in those directions away from downtown you'll be fine in all other parts of San Antonio
That's not stopping me, no matter where you go danger is everywhere
@@yesikanarvaez5027 right
It's the 2nd most dangerous in a safe state. I found far more crime in California and Washington state.
