Darn, I just learned from your game through this and the "I want to be in the game"-tier is sold out. Congratulations! With a bit of luck I might make it into the gamecube sequel. ^^
I have a big urge to say: Thank you Jon for giving the games you cover so much support, I've been following your work for years and you never disappoint!
It's because of two things: 1) Nostalgia 2) Games from the N64 era looked like fun. I think the error of some modern games is focusing too much on making games look real. Which is fine for games based on reality. GTA is enhanced by realism. But realism can make a lot of games look boring. The more cartoony, polygon style games look like an amusement park ride experience or a fun day at the arcade. It's just fun. That's why lower graphic games are making such a strong comeback. (Also because they tend to have less bugs and don't have graphic lag.)
This group is so wholesome I love them! They obviously care so much about what they do, to the point where they can’t even stop pitching ideas even in an interview 😂
Thank you so much for doing this interview with my friend Melon and the team, we cannot wait for the full release has the team is working very hard to bring everything they got for this game. super hyped for it
Kudos on the world and character design. Be it a result of the self-imposed "64" limitations the characters are simple, with basic design and colors. Many projects fall into the pitfall of overdesigning characters. Simplicity in character design often helps in creating memorable and iconic characters that players can easily identify with. Best of luck on this project!
I completed the demo, its a good game so far! I hope this project keeps the team fed and well during these harsh times jobwise - that story was certainly relatable.
16:32 I know the frog danced before in the video, but seeing it dance here behind the glass, like in those mods that change Mario's Star Get animation to a dance for no reason, really brings the shitpost amount out and makes it feel like a true Mario passion project
It's kinda surreal to play this after playing so many of BroDute's hacks. I can see so many of his design sensibilities reflected in it. It's pretty neat
Would love to see more of the Chameleon Twist style tongue grapple mechanics, that's such a deep cut and this footage doesn't show it being utilized much
i cant believe that i have never heard of this. didnt even finish watching the video before i went and backed the digital copy tier :) what i would truly love to see happen here eventually, is for the team to add in mod support -- bring it full circle, you started with rom hacking (a form of modding) now you can have fans of your game make their own levels in your game!
@@SalvadorButtersworth I know, but thats not the full thing is it? Idk, whenever people bring up kaze it's like he's the best and only modder around and it rubs me the wrong way, especially in the context of this video.
@@Quaternality well obviously this Kero Quest video shows better graphics than what Kaze makes. But this isn't a Nintendo 64 game. If it ran on Nintendo 64, then it would be more appropriate to compare it to Kaze. But it's 2 different things. Kero Quest is not Mario, but it feels like Mario. Kaze is doing the opposite in a way, making a game that looks like Mario but isn't. Then what James Lambert has done is different too. He ported Portal to the 64, but he was trying to make it look and play exactly the same. Most people would be more impressed with that end result, even if he didn't have to design his own levels or gameplay. And most people would be more impressed with Kero Quest than Return to Yoshi's Island, because it's a new character instead of just more Mario. They're allowed to sell Kero Quest, while Kaze is still seen as a hobbyist because he's not allowed to sell his Mario games. But Kaze didn't stop anyone else over the past 29 years from optimizing Mario 64 as much as he has done. In his particular area of interest, he's the best in some ways. So all of these people have done things that no one else has done, but they're doing different things.
If the devs are looking at comments still, y'all cookin' something good. I finished the demo twice, the game is already shaping up to be great. And side note, the Club Switch stays active after you delete a save. I'm amped for the game and already see speedrun potential, good luck with development.🐸
Somewhat has to do with when you hit the switch. You need to go into your Appdata and find the save file of the game and delete it to get rid of the switch being pressed atm.
Was listening to this across the room and heard (at 0:12) “Big congratulations! So, the game was banned on Kickstarter…” VERY confusing start to the video. I was like… what?! And then I was already furiously theorycrafting what might’ve happened, like maybe they got caught directly ripping and flipping Mario 64 assets or something? Hahahah
The demo was great! It really scratched that N64/Dreamcast itch. The physics felt just right and the graphics really remind me of Rayman 2 on the DC. I wonder if the future Switch version could support the N64 NSO controller, though I'm not sure if it has enough buttons for that. I remember that being a problem with some other "64" games on the eShop.
now after this game i expect them to make kero kart 64 but nah jokes aside this is really cool and i genuinely want to play this the devs did a great job grabbing attention with this game vibrant and nostalgic cant wait!
It really is inspiring to see when real people make real stuff! Some of the most creative game developers started as fan game makers or rom hackers or doom or quake level makers and all kinds of stuff like that! I'm also somewhat of an aspiring Indi dev who's working on my own fan game as a way to practice my programming and hopefully establish myself as someone who can make quality games. ...hopefully lol! Either way This game just brings me joy because it's fun to play just for the sake of being fun to play! and the froggy boy is so adorable!
It looks cool! Maybe not 100% what I'd want (For example, I wish Kero was more squishy in how it did it's jumps, and I also wish you could eat magic bugs to get powers... ) but it looks extremely cool and to the look of what I like. (I don't care about the retro 64 look, but the concept still seems a lot of fun with or without it)
I like the gameplay, it's totally hitting my taste. Just the graphics look a bit dry. more details like grass, wind fx etc, would be great to make the areas feel more alive. it also would be great to have a low res mode, in which its closer to N64 and playstation resolution (which will hide some of the missing details)
Especially if planning to make a branch off series, I don't think it's wise to admit that the root of most your controller and game function was ripped or adapted directly from nintendo
This looks great and these guys seem genuinely nice, but i was more excited when I thiught this was going to be a physical cart i could play on my N64. I dont play games on PC, so it would have to come to consoles if i were to purchase it, but i would definitely buy it if it was a physical N64 game
It sure is something to be in a GVG video. 🐸
I'm very proud of all of you
Super cool to see the project! Do you think there will ever be a physical copy to buy?
Your game looks absolutely ribbiting! (Riveting)
brodude why are you brodute
Darn, I just learned from your game through this and the "I want to be in the game"-tier is sold out.

I have a big urge to say: Thank you Jon for giving the games you cover so much support, I've been following your work for years and you never disappoint!
GVG does everything with true passion for videogames as few channels do 🙏🏻♥️
There's such a charm to N64 graphics that just doesn't happen in modern games. This looks outstanding, amazing job!
It's because of two things:
1) Nostalgia
2) Games from the N64 era looked like fun.
I think the error of some modern games is focusing too much on making games look real. Which is fine for games based on reality. GTA is enhanced by realism. Oh, dev team should add in-game speed-run mode=no cut-scene and with clock. Community will love that!
hmmmmm... you know that sounds like a great idea. So great that in fact the demo already got that pretty much.
Self imposed limitations is what really pushes the bounds of creativity. I love it! Love the colors and design
This group is so wholesome I love them! They obviously care so much about what they do, to the point where they can’t even stop pitching ideas even in an interview 😂
Thank you so much! It means a lot to us. And yeah, we actually did that a couple times ^^ our timing is not the greatest haha.
2:00 This ground texture looks like low poly lava, I instinctively went "No, don't step on it." lol.
these guys need to hit up bigmode i feel like dunkey would love to publish this
game

Love this! BroDute has made good quality hacks, and as soon as I found out he was working on this, I knew I needed to keep an eye on this!
Thanks for covering this! I'd like to see more videos giving game modders and developers exposure like this.
I completed the demo, its a good game so far! I hope this project keeps the team fed and well during these harsh times jobwise - that story was certainly relatable.
Thank you for sharing this! As a fellow indie, I appreciate it!
John posted about the demo on bluesky and i can’t wait for the full release!
Just backed it! What's been shown off so far definitely fits what I like in platformers, plus frogs are hella cool.
Surprisingly very well made and mechanically it seems flawless. Kudos to the developers.
Thanks for putting a spotlight on this, I just backed it and wouldn’t have found out otherwise.
As a Star Revenge enjoyer it's very cool how the level design and aesthetic are so clearly cut from the same cloth.
A wholesome team for a wholesome project. Excited to see how the game evolves until it releases!
This game looks fantastic and I only know about it because of you, Jon. I can't wait to see it released.
Now someone must mod this to be Greninja
I hope to hear more about this game! Would love to play on Switch/Switch 2 :)
16:32 I know the frog danced before in the video, but seeing it dance here behind the glass, like in those mods that change Mario's Star Get animation to a dance for no reason, really brings the shitpost amount out and makes it feel like a true Mario passion project
Great to see a feature like this on an indie game in development. Would love to see more of these from GVG 👍🏼
I played the demo a week ago or something and it was great! I can't wait to play the full game.
I think it’s so awesome and congrats on the team that made this game! 👏👏👏
The standard jump looks like it's missing some inbetweens. That aside, the other animations look good.
The team needs to get SM64 streaming community on-board with this project. They'll blow this game up.
Lost opportunity to call it "Kero Kuest".
I'm already in love with that autumn area.
It's kinda surreal to play this after playing so many of BroDute's hacks. I can see so many of his design sensibilities reflected in it. It's pretty neat
Would love to see more of the Chameleon Twist style tongue grapple mechanics, that's such a deep cut and this footage doesn't show it being utilized much
As someone that plays Dark Souls, I have an unrelenting urge to crush those black stones to gain Humanity
Damn, this game and everything around it gives me so much joy. I can't wait to play it on Switch
This looks great! I'll be looking forward to playing this one!
i cant believe that i have never heard of this. didnt even finish watching the video before i went and backed the digital copy tier :)

oh my god thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!! instantly wishlisted
I hope everyone is also aware Return To Yoshi's Island is almost out and its gonna be the best Mario 64 romhack ever.
I'll believe it when I see it. On both counts.
@@Quaternalitythe demo with Delfino Plaza is already out
And Kaze is using Mario 64 as his side project, while he's making his own original game.

Really digging the gameplay I’m seeing
I greatly enjoyed this interview, the game looks very charming.
Love too see Kero Quest getting love!!!
It looks like an upscaled 3Ds game. I love the graphics so much
This is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated games, it looks excellent.
Wishlisted already cant wait for this. I love retro style platformers
Gives gamecube vibes instead of 64, but its a compliment i love it
Such a great dev team for sure

he said BACKED not banned.... are u deaf
This looks incredible, I hadn't heard of it before!
It took 17 seconds of this video for me to go pledge to their kickstarter. Best of luck team!
This is amazing
this looks so lovely, i can't wait
33 hours left to back. 3500 euros from the last goal. Revamped star revenge levels. Let's gooooooo!!!

love this! directly yo my wishlist!
I'll play the hell out of this upon release! It looks really good!
Anyone else thoroughly enjoy the GVG intro theme?
It just makes me wanna replay Sonic Mania tbh
I think the prototype character design at 5:58 looked cute...though it doesn't look like a frog, per se.
These guys are great. Very passionate.

One of the fastest wishlist adds I've ever had!
Loving a the colors, the amphybian frog ciel color. Nice name , yo también Kero.
Aww aha really rooting for these guys :)

Just noticed GalaxyTrail is publishing this who also made Freedom Planet 2 nice!
I dunno if Nintendo can sue them for this, but oh boy, this game looks so pretty and interesting. I'm in love for a classic-like 3D platformer again 😍
looks v fun! i'm excited to play it!!
It looks so cool. I can't wait to play. Hope it comes to Switch!!!
Knew this was a Jon video before I even clicked it 😃
This looks so good!
MY BOY MELON!!!
this is so awesome to hear and inspirational, lets hope Nintendo doesnt take it down..
Wishlisted, looks fun
his name is melon. i respect that.
Looks really good
I've been drawing video game ideas since 2014 at age 19 & i still would like to make games until i die!

this makes me want to play Frogger 2, Swampee's Revenge!
It looks really nice! I wonder if they have an ETA on the release date?
Heres what i want for a Indie game charater, two actually, The main charater of frogun & Miriam from Bloodstained, just in a chibi form.
Hope we get a physical release.
I know it is a large ask. But ai would love it if it was also on the N64 as a rom.
There are many N64 hacks as of late Cultured Vultures and Morts Garage went over them today as well
this is cool. i like to see games like this.

Making a Nintendo-64-style game is my dream!
This is great! 😆 and in partnership with GalaxyTrail no less. I'm keeping my eye on this one. 😉

This game looks sweet!
Just downloaded the Demo!

Let’s not forget Cavern of Dreams
One question, the game will be available to run on original hardware? if i put on a everdrive for example...
I played thru this on my channel too, its amazing!
This looks gorgous.
The game is like ps2 era charm which is great
