Tropical Freeze got upgraded on switch. Higher resolution, better load times, & FUNKY😎. Theres no reason DKC returns couldn't have gotten the same treatment, especially this late in the systems life. Its a much less demanding game than Tropical Freeze.
If a new console wouldn't ship this year, I'd expect them to add patches and DLC all throughout the year. But Nintendo's focus is probably on Switch 2 and nothing but Switch 2 right now.

I'm fairly confident that we will probably see a February Direct of "some" kind. Not just towards the Pokemon stuff. I doubt Nintendo would wanna leave the schedule before April blank. Especially with the addition of backwards compatibility support, they won't have to worry.
I think there might be one simply to gather the last releases for the Switch in a presentation before switching for Switch 2 (obviously a relative switch because it's garanteed that Switch releases won't stop instantly).

Kirby Planet Robobot has also been rumored for a Switch remaster, which IMO is very likely. Even if it’s not Robobot, Kirby games have traditionally launched late in a console’s lifespan so some sort of remake or spin off on Switch 1 is a major possibility.
I don’t think indies perform better on the Switch specifically because people definitely prefer playing in handheld, it’s that the Switch offers the flexibility to play in handheld or on your TV, while other consoles lack one option, and since most indies run just as well on the Switch, it comes down to “do you want to be able to play on the TV or handheld, or do you want an option where you can only do one of those?” Even if you aim to play 99% of the game on the TV, the Switch option is just better then, but I wouldn’t characterize that as preferring to play on handheld, I’d say it’s more liking the option to be able ti

Shovel Knight launched as a WiiU exclusive for example. Nintendo fans like indie games and Nintendo has been cultivating that relationship heavily for over a decade with things like Indie Directs

If you love Metroidvanias and you haven't played the Ender games, you are doing yourself a disservice. Both games are priced at $24.99, but Ender Lilies does get a sale here and there. And like Daniel mentioned, you do not need to play Lilies to play Magnolia, however, if you are like me who prefers to play games from the 1st in a series, you will catch the little call backs here and there placed in Magnolia.
I think they might. Considering there are games that were announced last year that's coming out this year. Like Dragon Quest 1 & 2 2D-HD Remake and so on. I hope Prime 2 & 3 will get remastered and come out before Prime 4 does. And if this is gonna be the last time the Switch is gonna direct before Switch 2, than it gets the job well.

Anyone who doesn't think there will be one is underestimating Nate the Hate's sources at their own peril. Lots of smaller third party games are going to be coming to Switch 1 for the foreseeable future and want Direct space they won't be able to get in the April direct. Trails in the Sky 1 Remake is an obvious one, but there are a fair number of others. Add that to Nintendo wanting to show off their last set of Switch 1 headed games (start off with Xenoblade X, go into various unannounced straggler titles like rumored Kirby Robobot and Fire Emblem 4 remakes) to fill out a Direct, then end with a Metroid Prime 4 showcase. More than enough.
If we do get a Switch 1 direct prior to the Switch 2 direct, I'm excited by the prospect of what lower key but still awesome projects could be announced. For example: - A new Ace Attorney game, or a Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright port. - A new Mega man title; whether a new entry or a legacy collection - Sonic Dream Team on Switch - A new Square Enix HD 2D project. - Yoshi's Wooly World remastered. Etcetera. Now, I'm not expecting all of these to show up even if a Switch 1 direct is announced. However, the prospect of announcements of this ilk occuring is still an appealing one to me..🙂

Playtonic all but explicitly said it'll be Switch 2 and not Switch 1, and it's coming in just "2025" like the Switch 2 is. Maybe it's not the level of hype that Silksong would be but it's far more likely and I'm still looking forward to it.

@NachostheXth I mean, I get that, but I still feel like it's a good fit to some degree. I think the extreme cold reception it got at first has mellowed out some, and I think such a frank "yeah, that didn't work out quite as we hoped the first time" admission might bring people around, especially considering how Impossible Lair was much better received overall. Plus just being "former Rare devs making an indie studio" gives them a lot of visibility even with the mixed reactions to their first game. And admittedly, I feel like any indie title to take that spot would either be the longshot of Silksong finally getting released, or something we haven't even heard about yet. Even if it's not the grandest seeming guess it's the best one I have so far, is my point.

I will say that a lot of modern optical gaming mice actually use IR instead of the red light, which is why some of them don't glow red on the bottom (and can't blind a child!!!) - so technically the mouse sensor is both an IR projector and an IR camera. Problem is the focal distance is very very short, so unless it's attached to some device, it likely wont be used for anything other than a mouse. MAYBE for ring fit O2 sensor or something. But that's about it.
I feel like there kinda has to be, given the gap between Xenoblade X DE and the Switch 2 reveal (meaning there's still at LEAST a couple months to that console's release).
I do believe we will have a few cross generation titles. Both Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 were announced long before the Switch 2 so I strongly believe those two will be released with a Switch 1 and Switch 2 version.
more doubtful for pokemon as GF are known for being slow when it comes to adapting to new consoles. look at BW2 and USUM. These came out the same year the new hardware was released
It's funny to think that for once Nintendo is kinda forced to adopt a PlayStation strategy and relying on performances because they cornered themselves with such a great concept for a console. The system is so great that the only thing you can really improve on is Nintendo's usual weaknesse, performances. It's very ironic to think about and a very special situation.
Well, just wait and see what will happen regarding that. What is certain is that things are really good for Nintendo right now. We might have arrived at the decisive point where their VERY long term strategy of focusing on qualitative and creative games finally prevails rather than performances since performances start to become irrelevant for the consumer now. 4k or 8k doesn't make that much difference for a human being.

@ I actually agree with your view because I think the same. I'm just not as categoric on the fact it will actually happen given before the Switch came out we used to say Nintendo was over too. The possibility that PlayStation could do much better in the next generation is still a thing at the end of the day (even though that would require a profound transformation of how they approach video game I think).

They aren’t like Microsoft where their real company is not about gaming consoles at all, their gaming company is actually a considerable amount of Sony’s revenue and they can’t just throw billions at their gaming department out of nowhere. The fact that people are hyping up a possible Sony portable console that won’t even be that much more powerful than a Switch 2(as opposed to the failed Vita that was massively more powerful than the 3DS and the PSP that was an absolute evolution of portable gaming that completely trounced the DS in power but still lost convincingly)and would if anything just force 3rd parties to make more games that are based on Switch 2 specs and give Nintendo an even greater advantage over the PS5, just leads me to believe Sony is done. And btw I say this as someone who joined the Sony hype train just before the PS2 launch and proudly bought a PS3 when it had no games and a Vita. The Switch is my first Nintendo home console since the N64 and I don’t own a PS4 or PS5.
Truthfully, I can see them showcasing a Xenoblade X Direct - it would make sense given the game is a departure from the main trilogy and the mechanics are very different so a direct to break that down would aid, not only new comers but fans of the trilogy as well because it’ll be a way to explain that this a a different game.

If they want to get every Switch 1 software announced before talking about Switch 2, I could see them introducing a third tier to NSO with some extra consoles, GameCube and DS? Maybe they work with Hamster to make an app version of Arcade Archives? And as for other features I could see them charging for Switch 2 upgrades to Switch 1 games like Sony does with PS5 upgrades, but maybe they bundle any upgrades with the subscription?
I have this feeling they're going to save new NSO platforms for Switch 2, especially ones that could benefit from a mouse like DS/Wii. They also have to know how much people want GameCube stuff, making that a Switch 2 exclusive would be annoying but probably work out for them

I think review scores are too generous, and I agree with John giving DK a 5 out of 10. There are SOOOOO many great games to play. If everything is an 8 or 9, it's really hard to even know where to start, so I tend to just go for franchises and genres that I know are low risk for me. I get that there are so many bad games released that "even a bad AAA game is still an 8," but I think we need an actual AAA rating scale that pits AAA games against each other so that 2's and 5's can exist far more often. This would help separate the truly great games from the good or mediocre ones. Again, there is just so much stuff to play, and giving everything an 8 doesn’t really help. Reviews should reflect the competition of games on the platform they were released on and consider the desires of the target audience the game was designed for. So in the case of the Wii DK game remastered for Switch, I would compare it to other 2D platformers available on Switch at that price point, and I would tailor the review to fans of DK and platformers. If it's a 5 out of 10, then it's a 5 out of 10. That’s more helpful than giving it an 8. I’m also really tired of reviews that constantly give more niche genres and franchises lower scores because they inherently don’t appeal to a general audience. That’s not the game’s fault. I can think of so many games that got a 7 or 8 out of 10 when I would have given them a 9 or higher. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 comes to mind as an example. For fans of this franchise, basically every game is near perfect. I don’t really care what some journalist thinks just because they wanted it to have more action-oriented combat like every other generic game, or they didn’t want the game to be anime. If you don’t like the genre, stop reviewing the games! These are the same journalists that told us Dragon Age: The Veilguard or Final Fantasy XV were amazing games-you’ve lost all credibility! If you were to review a game like XC2 on Switch, thinking about its competition on the hardware in that genre as well as the target audience the game was designed for, it’s basically the best in class on the entire console. An 83 makes no sense for such a game. The best JRPGs on Switch are XC2, XC3, Fire Emblem Three Houses and Persona 5: Royal. All these games should been getting 9.5's because they are the best on the system. Everything should be compared to THEM, not some other arbitrary metric. If a customer cannot easily tell that these are the 4 best JRPGs on the system by doing a simple sort, then the scores are meaningless.
Giving DK remaster a 5/10 is ridiculous. Someone is pissed off lol ive completed the first world on the remaster.. not played it in 15 years since the wii version. To say its a 5/10 is sending the wrong message to gamers.. its between an 8/9

Everyone is talking about Silksong but Hades 2 can be the indie launch title. Remember Hades 1 was only on PC and Switch when that first launched.

I think the extreme cold reception it got at first has mellowed out some, and I think such a frank "yeah, that didn't work out quite as we hoped the first time" admission might bring people around, especially considering how Impossible Lair was much better received overall. Plus just being "former Rare devs making an indie studio" gives them a lot of visibility even with the mixed reactions to their first game. And admittedly, I feel like any indie title to take that spot would either be the longshot of Silksong finally getting released, or something we haven't even heard about yet. Even if it's not the grandest seeming guess it's the best one I have so far, is my point.
@ Oh look I think Yooka Laylee got an overly harsh criticism when it came out. I guess I would put it in a sort of "medium size" category rather than Silksong or say a Deltarune episode.
I wouldn't completely rule out Mina the Hollower or announcement on Shovel Knight DX.
Prime 2 Echoes is going to be shadowdropped this February. I'm sure 2,3 will be playable before summer when this art book releases.

I want Metaphor on Switch 2 so bad. I played the demo on ps5, but I really want a portable version. Ive loved playing P3P-P5 on switch.
I'm really excited for the Switch 2 release just so people like you guys stop having those horrible takes. It's baffling how little faith you guys have for Nintendo.
I will say that a lot of modern optical gaming mice actually use IR instead of the red light, which is why some of them don't glow red on the bottom (and can't blind a child!!!) - so technically the mouse sensor is both an IR projector and an IR camera. Problem is the focal distance is very very short, so unless it's attached to some device, it likely wont be used for anything other than a mouse. MAYBE for ring fit O2 sensor or something. But that's about it.
Outside looking in, there's no issue with new games being put on both systems unless the person is obsessed with graphics.

I do believe we will have a few cross generation titles. Both Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 were announced long before the Switch 2 so I strongly believe those two will be released with a Switch 1 and Switch 2 version.
more doubtful for pokemon as GF are known for being slow when it comes to adapting to new consoles. look at BW2 and USUM. These came out the same year the new hardware was released
ZA is not a cross generation game. The most they will do is allow for better performances on the Switch 2.
It's funny to think that for once Nintendo is kinda forced to adopt a PlayStation strategy and relying on performances because they cornered themselves with such a great concept for a console. The system is so great that the only thing you can really improve on is Nintendo's usual weaknesse, performances. It's very ironic to think about and a very special situation.
And now it is game over for their competition

What is certain is that things are really good for Nintendo right now. We might have arrived at the decisive point where their VERY long term strategy of focusing on qualitative and creative games finally prevails rather than performances since performances start to become irrelevant for the consumer now. 4k or 8k doesn't make that much difference for a human being.

Once Nintendo doesn’t need to rely on ports to fill the schedule for the HD era there will be nothing that Sony can do and it will go like this:
Sony: Here is this great 3rd party game that you can only play at your house unless you bought additional accessories to your $700 console on top of the game being $100 at launch and nothing else until our overhyped Horizon or Spider-Man game comes out in 2 years.
Nintendo: That’s cute, here is every 3rd party game anyone has ever cared about in the optimal portable form you have always wanted, a new 3D Mario, a new Mario Kart, a new Smash, 3 bigger badder Pokémon games, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime 4, the 2nd 3D Kirby game, Pikmin 5, Xenoblade, Luigi’s Mansion 4, Ring Fit 2 AND we are bringing back Star Fox, Donkey Kong, F-Zero and maybe even Golden Sun AND many of these games will sell more in this generation than they did even during the Switch 1 generation so even a Xenoblade game will sell 5 million copies and sell more than the next Final Fantasy on PS5.
I predict that Sony will close their games department down once the Switch 3 comes out, by which time Switch 2 will be approaching 200 million units sold and the Switch 3 will be so powerful that it can play PS5 pro games portably in 4K 60 fps, completely eliminating any discernible difference between Nintendo and a PS6.

The possibility that PlayStation could do much better in the next generation is still a thing at the end of the day (even though that would require a profound transformation of how they approach video game I think).

I don’t see Sony doing anything. They aren’t like Microsoft where their real company is not about gaming consoles at all, their gaming company is actually a considerable amount of Sony’s revenue and they can’t just throw billions at their gaming department out of nowhere.
The fact that people are hyping up a possible Sony portable console that won’t even be that much more powerful than a Switch 2(as opposed to the failed Vita that was massively more powerful than the 3DS and the PSP that was an absolute evolution of portable gaming that completely trounced the DS in power but still lost convincingly)and would if anything just force 3rd parties to make more games that are based on Switch 2 specs and give Nintendo an even greater advantage over the PS5, just leads me to believe Sony is done.
And btw I say this as someone who joined the Sony hype train just before the PS2 launch and proudly bought a PS3 when it had no games and a Vita. The Switch is my first Nintendo home console since the N64 and I don’t own a PS4 or PS5.

Truthfully, I can see them showcasing a Xenoblade X Direct - it would make sense given the game is a departure from the main trilogy and the mechanics are very different so a direct to break that down would aid, not only new comers but fans of the trilogy as well because it’ll be a way to explain that this a a different game.

@tomsimmons7673 that's all well and good but that's enough to make it a Switch 2 exclusive? My main concern I guess is for people accidently buying a Switch 2 game thinking it will work in a Switch. Unless the packaging is different or the cartridge can't fit in a Switch because of an added nub like 3DS carts.

Unless it was really early footage (which I doubt) mario kart 9 is 100% cross gen. The footage in the switch 2 video looks too low quality to be actually running on switch 2

Shovel Knight released for Wii U before the Switch came out, so I don’t know if I would count it as the big Switch Indie launch title.
I assume it is considered a major launch indie title because the Switch version of Shovel Knight came with the new campaign Specter of Torment as a timed exclusive.

I have a theory they will leave it blank because February was supposed to be the original month they teased Switch 2 until the people at the private convention ruined the surprise and they had to reveal it earlier than planned. So they expected a couple months originally.
Nah, you can't change the release date of your big reveal like that just because of the leaks. Remember that still a big part of the Nintendo audiance is more "casual". They don't care about leak on Twitter.

If they want to get every Switch 1 software announced before talking about Switch 2, I could see them introducing a third tier to NSO with some extra consoles, GameCube and DS? Maybe they work with Hamster to make an app version of Arcade Archives? And as for other features I could see them charging for Switch 2 upgrades to Switch 1 games like Sony does with PS5 upgrades, but maybe they bundle any upgrades with the subscription?
I have this feeling they're going to save new NSO platforms for Switch 2, especially ones that could benefit from a mouse like DS/Wii.
They also have to know how much people want GameCube stuff, making that a Switch 2 exclusive would be annoying but probably work out for them

These shows coexisted but it seems like that show became an afterthought as people showed up less and less.
GVG Cast got the boot from the main channel and moved to twitch due to low views hurting the channel. It's currently on hiatus on twitch as they figure out what to do with it since their personal schedules no longer work on Fridays.

I think review scores are too generous, and I agree with John giving DK a 5 out of 10. There are SOOOOO many great games to play. If everything is an 8 or 9, it's really hard to even know where to start, so I tend to just go for franchises and genres that I know are low risk for me. I get that there are so many bad games released that "even a bad AAA game is still an 8," but I think we need an actual AAA rating scale that pits AAA games against each other so that 2's and 5's can exist far more often. This would help separate the truly great games from the good or mediocre ones. Again, there is just so much stuff to play, and giving everything an 8 doesn’t really help.
Reviews should reflect the competition of games on the platform they were released on and consider the desires of the target audience the game was designed for. So in the case of the Wii DK game remastered for Switch, I would compare it to other 2D platformers available on Switch at that price point, and I would tailor the review to fans of DK and platformers. If it's a 5 out of 10, then it's a 5 out of 10. That’s more helpful than giving it an 8.
I’m also really tired of reviews that constantly give more niche genres and franchises lower scores because they inherently don’t appeal to a general audience. That’s not the game’s fault. I can think of so many games that got a 7 or 8 out of 10 when I would have given them a 9 or higher. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 comes to mind as an example. For fans of this franchise, basically every game is near perfect. I don’t really care what some journalist thinks just because they wanted it to have more action-oriented combat like every other generic game, or they didn’t want the game to be anime. If you don’t like the genre, stop reviewing the games! These are the same journalists that told us Dragon Age: The Veilguard or Final Fantasy XV were amazing games-you’ve lost all credibility!
If you were to review a game like XC2 on Switch, thinking about its competition on the hardware in that genre as well as the target audience the game was designed for, it’s basically the best in class on the entire console. An 83 makes no sense for such a game. The best JRPGs on Switch are XC2, XC3, Fire Emblem Three Houses and Persona 5: Royal. All these games should been getting 9.5's because they are the best on the system. Everything should be compared to THEM, not some other arbitrary metric. If a customer cannot easily tell that these are the 4 best JRPGs on the system by doing a simple sort, then the scores are meaningless.
