I came here for a different type of exposed seam, then suddenly realized that I'd watched your whole video even though it wasn't what I came for. That never happens. Nice work! I especially loved the sleeve cuff work around!
I literally loled at "I'm not doing it." XD Thanks for keeping in all the mess-ups. As a beginner I'm always wondering if it's normal to be making SO many mistakes but am now seeing it's just a part of the process!
This was cool; could you please show us how to do it on a sewing machine instead of a serger? I learn most of my sewing stuff by watching first, trying it, watching again, and then fixing my mistakes. I feel like this technique could be really cool on a regular t-shirt or graphic t-shirt, maybe add in some tie-dye or ice-dying techniques.
Hi! I don't have a serger either, so what I do is I sew the seam and then cut the seam allowance leaving between 1/8 - 1/4 inch. Then set my sewing machine in zigzag stitch and carefully sew the seam allowance I left. You need to be aware of the width of your zigzag stitch so it reaches from your previous straight stitch to the end of the small seam allowance you left. I hope this explanation helps, English is not my first language. Love!
You can also use an overlock foot. Before I got my serger, that’s what I used as my sergered edge for pieces. Most machines should have the stitch (it’ll note you need foot G if you have a computerized machine)
I love it! The way you finished the sleeves was a good save! All those seams added texture and interest to the sleeves. I’ve done a few pieces of clothing like this over the years. Never gets old for me.
I'm so glad those sleeves were too short for you because the extra cuff that you added turned out beautifully. It really added an extra touch to the top! Well done 👏
It is so cute. What a treat. I see a knitted dress as well. Never disappointed. You are a rockstar, or should I say a up cycling star 🌟 😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣.. You are always on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Why I like your channel, is because you take and design your own clothing. And you tell others it doesn't have to be like your. You inspire people to be creative. And that's what's the world needs more people like you. I hate channels that says what you should get rid of and stop wearing it. I'm not a trend follower and I don't keep up with the Joneses. I hate it when some people think they are better then others, and put them down. Me, myself and I hang around people I can talk to,and do things we all enjoy. For reading to cutting down a tree. There are so many endless things people could do. Thank you for sharing. You have a heart of gold. 👍🙂❤️ I also want to tell you, I take my old socks and cut the foot part off and I will add them to my hoodie if the sleeves are to short and the same with my winter pants. Maybe you could try and see what you come up with. 👍
I love this and you gave me an idea to sew expose the seems and I love them damn boots! Wish I was about 20 years younger! I'd wear the heck out of them! Awesome!
Hey so a pro tip u have for back stiching on an overlock machine would be to thread a larger hand needle with the tail of the thread and loop it within the overlock stich. Hope that makes sense
I heard Chicago all in that “y’all I’m always doing some stupid stuff” & when you want to cuss but you tryna live right, lol😂. Great video btw. I love exposed seams too.❤️
I absolutely lovvvvvve this channel! I’m learning from you, don’t even have a machine, but am filling my brain with these how to’s! Cannot wait to execute my ideas in 2022!
Lol. You are so funny. I did the same thing when i make dredging errors. It's refreshing to know that I'm not the only one and that of a pro like you can do it And move on shoo can I. Lol. You are such an inspiration! Keep it up! You're great, funny and sweet!😊Thank you for all the lessons!
Loving your work, Angelina. The improvisation on the sleeves is inspired! I would wear that top myself! If I have time, I'll def do one of these upcycled tops! Thank you!
Sorry You don’t get to See 👀All the Mistakes, I’ve been making! Trust me Plenty on this side of RUclips! Thanks for another fun project, and showing us the pitfalls to watch for! I may try this with a old sweatshirt 🤔
We don't have winter where I'm at but I do have a turtleneck jersey that I love and this upcycle just gave me a wonder idea. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas with us. Don't know if I'll have the time now to do it but I'm going too sooner or later.
I also hate when tops fit too loose in the torso so this was a really unique way of altering it to fit better. I wasn’t sure about it at first but I really like how the top turned out. Truly impressive! 😍
As for the snagged thread...a darning needle or any other with a larger hole could be poked into the sleeve half way down next to the snag then feed the short piece of thread in then pull it down. On the inside of the sleeve, thread the needle in and out on the top layer of the knit, then feed the short piece of thread in and pull it through the weaving done with the needle. That will help secure it into the fabric.
That is sooo cute! The addition to the sleeves was spot on and they looked like they belonged. You lined up the outer seam and everything .👌🏾The styling was cute. I think with really any pair of your jeans the combo would be cute. Ooo the wide legged jeans you just did would be really cute with this sweater. So many options. You did great, even with the oops 😅 moments. 😀
I’m here because I did perfect stitch work on one side of a shirt. …. Only to find out I forgot to flip it inside out. But I didn’t want to rip the stitches, so i figured i’d see if I could make a style out of it
This is a great idea and it looks fabulous on you! If you're looking for an alternative way to control those serger tails here's a method I use. Make sure you have some pretty long tails on all the seam ends (5 - 6 inches at least). Smooth out the chains a little bit and thread them through a blunt-tip darning needle. Then you can run the darning needle backwards under the serged/overlocked seam. I usually go back for several inches. If you want it super-secure you can use a seam sealant, tie a knot, or back-stitch a few times. Then cut off the threads. Voila!
❤ 😍 thank you so much for doing this. I've been wanting to try this exact process. And sharing your mistakes ahows me feel like I'm not the only one who goofs. Keep them coming.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful upcycle for a sweater!!! I love it. Cannot wait to find a sweater and make it look so chic. You can do this technique with so many projects. Wow I'm so excited. Thank you again.
Hi Angelina! Could you maybe do an episode about ideas on how to fix shirts and hoodies etc that fit well but that have an ugly print on them? I know I could just wear layers or slap on a patch but I would love some new ideas on that too :) Too often I just so happen to find the fit and material I want but have to make do with the less than desirable print. Thank you for your channel, you are always full of great ideas and positive spirit!
Niiceeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! I love that you never give up and always find a way around things. The sleeves are lovely, lovely. I believe that if you would have had enough material for the sleeves, they would have been fine, but not as cool as they ended up.
I love it!!! I have 2 identical old sweaters in different shades, hot pink and lavender that are too short in the sleeves and length. I am going to try to piece them together to make one perfect sweater. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
You did an awesome job on this top. Love it. Let me see if I can explain this: For those threads, insert a thin sewing needle but leave the eye exposed, then put the thread through the eye, then pull the needle all the way through with threads.
Good afternoon, everyone. I have a question? What type of machine do you recommend for sewing. That has a reason price roughly under 150.00. Nicely made. I like it. I am going to make this next week. I have been working on my upcycling clothing.
Id say get a secondhand one that is higher quality. Sub150 ones often fall apart quick, unless ur really lucky. My sewing machine is 20years old (husqvarna from my mums wedding gift) and it's still going strong and better than a new plastic one I've tried (that was 350$). The new ones are often also really light which may be a benefit if you want to travel/move it but it makes it very unstable when you are sewing fast or w heavier fabrics. Angelina has also done series on comparing cheaper sewing machines
I was wondering why you were going thru all the trouble with the inside seems 😆.im obsessed with this technique I'm always eyeing the multi sweater put together into really cool jackets with this technique on etsy
Girl! I got long arms too. Teehee. Such a great idea and doing!! Luvit. Right sides togezzer can't be trumped in the head!! Yop. Funny but tru. Yu got throo. Ty az always! 🤣👆

Yup, no matter how long you've been sewing it still happens.
I love it. I'm thinking about it on a sweet shirt. Combining two

Oh my my my! I need this, but don't have a serger. I would make it longer & bi colored...

I was thinking about graphic tees too! I have so many baggy shirts that would be cute.
Wow! The sleeves just add a little something extra that brings the whole shirt over the top! Excellent job!
That is really cute. I love the extra ribbing on the sleeves. Great job
Thank you!! 😊
So cute! The bottom of the sleeves are my favorite part!!! 😍 💝💝❤❤❤💖💗💞

I love it! The top was instantly elevated! A matching straight skirt would make a great workday look too😍
Yes, that would be perfect!
Great job as usual.. I love exposed seams shirts they look so good with jeans and skirts..

This top is toooooo cute! One of these days, I need to break down & learn how to finally use a serger.😫 And I see that backpack... LOVE IT!🙌🏽💜
They're really easy to use. I think it just looks intimidating.

Love love love the sleeve extensions! So unique!

That turned out beautifully 😍...do you have any suggestions for us hand sewers who can use a machine but do it better with the hands??🤔
I'd try to overlap the edges and do a ladder stitch (I think that's the name of the stitch).
You are SO funny!! Love this idea.. Thanks for the humor!! Love the yellow with the blue-- I wouldn't have thought of that combo.
