I saw this movie when I was 7 yrs old. It gave me such nightmares I had to sleep with my mother for a week. I never forgot how scary it was to me as a child. I am excited to watch it again so many years later so I can see how silly it really was. Thanks for the memories.
Haha, too funny. I had that same experience after watching Strait-Jacket with Joan Crawford in 1964 playing an axe murderer. Saw it again recently and it is laughable.
I remember my older sister took me and my older brother to see this at the Riviera theater, it was on a double bill with "Invasion Of The Saucer Men" with the great Frank Gorshin, thanks for posting, and thanks for keeping those old school movies & TV shows alive, RIP Susan Cabot.
Roger Corman (now 94, 2020) is literally a living legend among film makers. He started his long career in films in the mail room at 20th Century Fox. Eager to rise above that, he contributed his ideas to the 1950 movie The Gunfighter starring Gregory Peck and when he got no acknowledgement, he quit in disgust. After a period of study he returned to the studios and got work as a stage hand, a messenger and as an assistant to a literary agent. He wrote a script in his spare time and sold it for $2,000 which was released with the title of Highway Dragnet in 1953 starring Joan Bennett and Richard Conte. Then he established his own company Palo Alto and produced his first film Monster From The Ocean Floor in 1954. Then he was on a roll churning out pictures which, although very B grade, did make money. He got his first critical praise in Machine Gun Kelly in 1958 which gave Charles Bronson his first leading role. His 1959 Crime and Punishment gave George Hamilton his first big role. He moved into making major films in 1959 and in 1960 produced The House Of Usher based on an Edgar Allen Poe story starring Vincent Price. It was a notable hit. In 1965 he joined United Artists and also Colombia. His list of movies is huge - he directed fifty-five and produced 385 (1954 - 2008) as well as writing and even having cameo acting roles. His list of major awards including an Honorary Oscar in 2010 is equally long. For a film maker who started making cheap B grade trash movies, Corman has become recognised as a major and respected film maker.
When she transforms into Wasp Woman, the wingless creature emits a buzzing sound-head of a wasp, wearing her favorite neckless. I love the little hairy-wasp gloves!
A stunning exposé of vampire-wasp juice addiction, and the pressures inherent in bringing a new product to market in 50s America. Highly enjoyable film, but tempered with sadness at how the wasp woman actress, Susan Cabot, had her reputation shredded, by lawyers and the media, following her tragic death.
Pure camp horror shocker from the legend himself, Roger Corman. Excellent transfer - thank you for posting. These old B movies are so much fun and are actually extremely watchable. This one has a really stand-out musical score which gives it a wonderful period feel. It's pure low-brow entertainment at its best but also very nicely crafted with energetic performances. Loved watching it again. Never apologise for enjoying something like this - it's like a great big cheeseburger of a movie. Delicious. :D
Loved it 😂. Thank you so much ~Great movie from start to end !!! ~ Please post more of these especially since Halloween 🎃🎃🎃 is right around the corner …It took my mind off what’s going on in this crazy time too 🌻💕
You should have a Roku streaming channel with all of these wonderful “B” movies! The quality, not always the content, of the films and the acting are amazing. Thank you for posting!
One of my all-time guilty pleasures--along with a lot of other Roger Corman quickies, like Attack of the Crab Monsters, It Conquered the World, and the like!
@@PizzaFLIX am I crazy or were you allowed at one time to post full one hour videos of Alfred Hitchcock Presents? There are many short clips available or they have been deleted altogether. Can you explain the RUclips/ copyright thing in simple terms?
For all of you eagle-eyed car buffs out there, in 1962 the director added 20 minutes of footage for television syndication which explains the the 62-63 model year cars.
Of course whenever I think of the WASP woman I think of a bunch of honey bees. Even though I admit this is not a good movie by conventional standards I love to watch it and I love how young Susan Cabot gets in the first 30 minutes. She had a rough; life ; I read about her and think about her often.
The music in this film is written by the wonderfully talented and creative Fred Katz, it is reflective of the postwar bebop era which influenced such classical composers as Leonard Bernstein and others, and should have won an Oscar. The film was held together by the music, without which it would have fallen into the wastebin of history. Thank you Fred Katz , Genius.
So funny. First the wasp nest he took from the tree was a hornet's nest. Next he turned a Guinea pig into a rat, then the guy lit his pipe and 10 seconds later put it in his pocket and finally, that last shot of the wasps were honeybees.
This movie was one of the best I've seen. It ranks right up there with the return of the fly. The reason I'm not watching it here is because I have it on CD and have seen it a few times so I'm quite familiar with this movie.
This has got to be a port from the new blu ray transfer. Quality is crystal. One of my favorite older creature features. It also carries a none too subtle commentary about the dangers of drug use. Even though the budget was shoe string, and the make up a tad dodgy...it's a favorite.
