@@ianna2321 I'm not so sure. Part of the problem today is that misbehaving children do not get the correction they need. It is the reason for the increase in crime, especially violent crime. There is a responsibility for parents to ensure their children are instilled with a sense of decency that allows for the protection of human life, including their own. The ability to forecast that someone might have a firearm in their house and know how to use it should be something that gives pause to would-be criminals of ANY age. The fact that this kid chose to try and enter the home of a single mother of 4 who has police documented evidence of prior break-in attempts says that she was right for doing what she did. The old saying: The police are minutes away, when you have only seconds to respond ... still holds true. Would you have 4 children and a young woman dead instead of the death of a hoodlum in training? Which situation provide more community value? She and her girls had been there for 6 years with no issues. Why should they suffer for the sake of a 14 year old criminal? And he WAS committing a criminal act!

I've tried many times, even when HUD said the landlord clearly discriminated or otherwise broke the law after an investigation, and it's open and shut. HUD will only investigate discrimination charges, and won't help you with criminal ones against the landlord. There are so many lawsuits going in Texas that getting only a part of your possible $ 20,000 (max) is not enough for lawyers. Forget Civil courts, they are back up over 2 years making it even more impossible to get justice. There is deep injustice in this state for a huge part of the population and it's very much on purpose. Lives don't matter only money. There are lots of laws but no enforcement. I personally am trying to get out of here. It's become a living nightmare.
