I'm from New Orleans and had my first Mai Tai at the Bali Hai in 1984 when I was 18. Me and my father belonged to a Mardi Gras Krewe called Hercules and the Bali Hai parking lot was the the staging point for the parade and the gathering place for the end of the parade. The inside was amazing and that's what started my interest in Tiki. Sadly it burned down in the 90's I believe.
It's "easy" only after you do, literally, hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of research to learn about the history of this so that you can figure out what you should be looking for. Then you need to spend the same amount of time looking for it. Nothing falls into your lap and none of this happened overnight.
Great episode.. It has taken me several days of watching this video over and over again just to take in all of this incredible private collection. Simply amazing! Me want more! more! and even more! home tiki bar tours please. From your very envious mate in Australia. Aloha
WOWZA...now that was a field trip...my tiny breezeway tiki bar in Jax Florida is nothing like this due to space, but what fun to dream and be transported and to enjoy a cocktail with Martin Denny and what once was...thanks for the tour...CHEERS!
That’s amazing! Killer bar Gregory! As a New Englander I understand there not being much around here unless I get it from Rick 🤣 It makes me sad though the many times I said I’d get something at Oceanic Arts the next time I went to add to the collection and then there wasn’t a next time 😞
Love the channel your definitely headed for greatness. Would love to see some in depth coverage on the Tiki bar and rum runner history of the postcard inn in Isla morada if you haven’t covered it yet
Lost for words more or less. Jealous much! Like others have said, that's not just a home tiki bar, it's a museum. Calling that a home tiki bar doesn't do it justice.
Spike, this fellow told you that he's hardly ever been to any tiki bars?? I had to rewind to make sure I heard that! Kowloon is only a couple of hours away, and the owner told you he's going to renovate soon. It's got to be tough to leave that basement, but he truly needs to hit the road and see some of the bars you've been featuring. Give him an itinerary!!
Hey... he's been to Kowloon several times. I think he was talking more about those iconic West Coast tiki bars, but I'm just the wife, what do I know🤷♀️
The Kowloon is actually about an hour and 15 minutes away and I've been there many times. I'm so sorry I forgot to mention it. It's not the easiest thing to remember everything when you're under the gun and you know you're being filmed.
@@hineighbor2007I bet! I am so glad to hear you've been to the Kowloon; I'll be heading up next year. This year I made the trek to Max's in Grand Rapids, thanks to Spike's feature. I hope you can get there at some point - it's astounding. Congratulations on your incredible tiki bar and collection!
Thank you for the comment. I know exactly what the flag is which is why it is displayed in my room. If you feel these flags should be returned to Japan, I will be more than happy to send you links to those that come up for sale or auction so that you can purchase them and return them yourself. Have a great day.
If you find this interesting, please share this to your social media. It really helps the algo and gets the word out about the show!
Matt how do I sign up for your patreon program?
@@bobanderson-cp9ni you can find it here, thanks!! www.patreon.com/BreezewayCocktailHour
It's not only a Tiki bar, it's a museum!
#1 Tiki show on RUclips.
As a citizen of another New England state (VT), it is great for me to hear about New England examples of Tiki.
Wow! What a collection!! And proves you can still find amazing pieces on EBay! Thanks for sharing

Fantastic place and committed tiki man. Thank you for the tour and time it takes to deliver it us.
Awesome place, and I would say its easy to get to this level with obvious big funds.

love all the pieces. I wish I had money for all that. Very cool!!
This is so great, Spike! Thank you for bringing us these great stories from other enthusiasts.
I love all of the historical information. It is such a time capsule. What an incredible museum disguised as a Tiki bar. Just insane.
This guy isn't a collector- He's a Tiki guru..

Wow. How much time does this guy spend at auctions and on Bay?!
OMG! You were in our tiny tiny state. Hope you enjoyed your visit.
I could spend a long time in that bar!
Amazing! Someone has a hell of a lot of money 😂

Dude, thanks so much for doing such an awesome job on this. Very much appreciated!!! This "Hi Neighbor" must be an old log in. Greg
I love it! Great Tiki room!
One correction: Luke's Restaurant opened in 1951 but the Luau Hut didn't open until 1963.
I thought it opened up earlier as the sign looks earlier than that. Thanks for the info. Where did you get this information? Greg
Amazing! Where/what would you suggest someone who is new to the scene begin when starting a collection for their home tiki bar?
Now I know who’s been bidding against me on quite a few items
Yeah, next auctions i'm apart of, if we hear them say "Sold to Rhode Island" we'll know!
Random coqui frog sounds in the background. Was that intentional or some kind of RI crickets?
How long has he been collecting for. Wonder how much the collection cost.
about 20 years
No Happy Tiki😅, from The Happy Tiki in S.Calif 😊
Holy Shit
Shame it's a just a home bar. Would love to see a proper tiki bar in my home state
Hey, I live in Rural Rhode Island too. Can we be friends?

@@KT-mk2oh Well, you know you've got the finest basement tiki bar for miles around!
Spike is Italian? Cool. I'm Italian with the last name Goddi, my people are from an island off of the southern coast of Italy.
The yosegaki hinomaru hanging from the ceiling should be preserved and displayed properly or returned to Japan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Luck_Flag
