I found the video very interesting. I am from Spain and I can confirm that the Kings League has entered with great force, especially thanks to the streamers who have created their teams in this league and who already had a fairly large fan base. I think this league has served above all to give more visibility to the players of lower categories of Catalan football and some from the rest of Spain. In my opinion, I think there is nothing wrong with creating a league with the aim of having fun and making people who were getting tired of conventional football re-engage with a more dynamic and "fast food" alternative.

There used to be a similar (although less circus-esque) competition in the UK with Masters Football. It was very popular initially, with a lot of big-name retired pros playing short six-a-side games. Waned in its later years as they ended up with people nobody had ever heard of playing and small crowds at the venues and sadly got cancelled. Hopefully Piqué can keep the hype going and not fade away in a similar fashion.

In Spain, if you want to watch La Liga you have to pay a lot of money, so obviusly young people that don't have the resources to pay the expensive subscriptions, and the level of football is worse and worse every season, but with Kings League you have a fast pace sport that it a lot of fun to watch
Like it or not football is an entertainment medium. There's no reason why there shouldn't be shorter forms of it to appeal to varying audiences. It's fair to prefer longer matches. Most football fans do. But by doing this, he's introducing new audiences to the sport further growing it. I watch basketball. Watching the NBA. 48 minutes, 4 quarters, and 12 minutes per quarter. I only watch highlights apart from the playoffs where I’m watching full game. I watch UFC, 3 rounds, 5 minutes per round (15 minutes) and 5 rounds, 5 minutes per round (25 minutes) for championship fights and main events. Depends on which fighter I want to watch. I watch NFL, not full game but highlights. For super bowl, I’m watching full game. For boxing, I watch full game depending on which boxer I want to watch. As for the premier league, I don’t watch full games, only highlights. So, it seems that I don’t watch games that last more than 1 hour because I prefer to do other things. You can’t blame me. Maybe the sport should change to provide more action.
Crazy thing is, some KingsLeague matches have more viewers than most LaLiga matches, because its streamed for free and has some of the biggest spanish speaking streamers as presidents. Its like having Mr Beast, Ksi, Xqc, etc create and manage their own football team with their communities and watch them hire players, coaches, negotiate salaries, try to steal players from other teams, argue with referees, etc, for free.

The biggest exception is that the Kings League has more sponsorship backing than the MISL ever did, which is part of the reason why the league folded and has gone through 8 different iterations of a top league. Would love to see a MASL-Kings League crossover event like the 1981 Trans-Atlantic challenge between the Baltimore Blast and Sheffield Wednesday, which Eric Cantona played in. Or when the Philadelphia Atoms played vs. The USSR at the Spectrum.
It's similar to what they've done with Cricket, turned it into a short version of the regular game. T20 cricket (20 Overs per team) compared to the regular 50 Overs. Massively popular and more entertaining for a younger audience, also made it a more family friendly event. It also has the effect of having 'near-retired/ex pro' players playing in the shortform as its less taxing on the body in T20, would be similar again for this King's League.

It's 11×11 competition with experimental rules (Wenger offside, "clear" time - the clock running only when the ball is in game, and many others). The teams either have famous people in squad or in management. Nowadays teams have more professional squads, some of them are even presented in Russian cup and went through 2-3 stages.

I think this league is more popular because of all the things around it than the football itself. I'd rather focussing on changing the core of the game to create more entertainment than doing all sorts of funky stuff trying to create a entertaining product. I'm from Spain and the feeling is that they are losing all the freshness, they have a bad strategy because of their crazy ego, I think it will fail for these reasons: -Saturation: They are creating so much content instead of focusing on quality, this can make people get tired. -Audience and Mistargeting: It's clear that they are targeting youngsters who watch Twitch, but with the same content again and again, but this segment is not there forever. They should target also millenials but the problem is in the next point. -Twitch ratkids presidents: I think this destroys all the fun, the presidents are just rich ego inflated kids, with a lot of money, overstimulated (not pun intended, maybe is just Monster drink) and 0 carisma to attract older millenials. Would be great that all of them were actual football players or even former managers. Instead we have disappointing content based on uninteresting twitch streamers. -Media focus on presidents rather than the football players: Again this will make it more entertaining, but the focus is just on the presidents, so there is no motivation to watch the actual game, only if you are a 13 years old kid that enjoys some despicable characters such as Grefg to scream like crazy. In the WWE, the focus where the wrestlers, so if this is a circus, then the main characters should be the gladiators.
