"Why your game lacks people of color?" As a Slav, this would be my answer: You have to rephrase this question without using America-centric racial terminology such as "person of color". In our culture we do not divide people into two races - "white" and "colored". We divide them by ethnicities.
That's right. What ethnicity you are is based more on the language that you use as your mother tounge and the connection to your country's history and cultural customs. It's not like people in Europe, especially and also in the Eastern Europe (which I think is just an outdated term coming from the Western Europe and USA to describe all the countries east of the Oder river being under the control of the USSR and which doesn't even take into account all the previous and new history that has happened in this region of Europe) look extremely similar. It just isn't possible with all the wars, migrations, trade routes and so on to keep one ethnicity from mixing with one another. Back then people weren't even that obssesed with the shade of your skin or how your face looked but more what religion you practiced and if you were a loyal subject to your sovereign. Scientifically there never was and never will be a normal country that can call itself ethnically homogenous as in genetically similar with similar shade of skin, face features and so on. The ones thinking otherwise are just some dumb people beliving in stupid, completely not scientifically based evidences which aren't so different in comparison to religious fanatics or any other fanatics.
You'll learn about racial divisions soon. Don't worry. When you have entire neighborhoods you have to avoid for the sake of safety, you'll stop with the whole "I don't know what a race is" nonsense.

I was born in Czechia in the late 80s and have lived here my whole life. Let me tell you, back in the 90s when I was a kid, it was very rare to see people with dark skin (not counting Romani people). The only folks you'd come across were African students or those who came here for work, and even that was pretty uncommon, you could only really see them in the capital once in a while. Growing up in a smaller city, I didn't see anyone with dark skin in real life until I was a teenager. Even today, it's still not very common to see such people, even in the capital, though it's definitely more common than it used to be. But think about it, if there were hardly any such people (and definitely no natives) in the 90s, how could there have been any 600 years ago? Not to mention all the different depictions and descriptions of people from around that time - none of them mention or depict anything about people of color in Bohemia.
I'm from Poland and it was/is the same. We now have a prominent mostly vietnamese minority in the capital and there are some Black people here and there but that is quite a recent change. And in the rest of the country it's really rare to see, mostly tourists and some foreign students.

It's kind of crazy to think that in their minds that all media they can see now NEEDS to be "diverse". It's ok to make a movie/show/game/book/music that is for a core audience and we see this all the time now with queer, black, trans, female stories being at the center of so many books featured at Barnes & Noble/Libraries, sections on streaming services showcasing Black stories, shows/movies created by women, shows that are LGBTQ centered, music that is specifically promoted and targeted at these audiences - yet is still not enough? Then someone creates something based on historically accurate representation of a time period and location for a CORE AUDIENCE. Who are they to change something they're *NOT EVEN INTERESTED IN PLAYING!* They can have their things, I'm not trying to change it. But the hypocracy in trying to change things others like simply to cater to their subjective societal checklist is insane.

Forcibly changing history is a dangerous practice that should be resisted. If a country wants to enforce this in its own multimedia space, fine but trying to enforce it in other works of another country is downright disgusting. We Czechs or Slavs want to present our history as it was and not be influenced by other countries and people to add something to our own history that is not true. If you want to promote black people in history, for example, why dont you create works where the story takes place in lands where they actually were. Don't you think Africa has enough interesting stories and events in its own history?
I totally agree. The African continent have a long and varied history between all the nations and tribes. If these rasist, facist, rage reporters wants forced colored implementation to historical time periods, they should make their own games and movies. Same goes for Disney. There is enough un spoken, untold storries and histories from the African continent to write tousands of books, both for adults and children. So instead of race swapping populair storries from European contries, start making new storries about the African ones, that have yet to be told. But i guess it's way easier to currupt and destroy , than to accualy make the effort to create somthing new. I for one would love to see a disney version of "african" storries. Instead of the current destruction of our beloved children storries.
People need to have realistic expectations on what "diversity" is in a medieval game. In a medieval game, diversity would be having a jew character that the locals don't hate and blame for their problems. It would be diverse to have characters of nearby countries like germans or poles appear in the game. It would be diversity if women can do pretty much anything. You can have your game be diverse and historically accurate, but you need to know what "diverse" means for the time. Problem is gaming journalists like the ones from Kotaku doesn't even really know what diversity is anymore, to them diversity is when you have a black character even when it makes absolutely no sense.
These people are two focussed on the colour of people’s skin. Sure there were a range of ethnicities in medieval Bohemia. There were Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Germans, Hungarians and probably more. The one place I've ever seen a sub-Saharan African in a medieval European property that worked was in "The Last Kingdom". Takes place in 10th century England, and the Catholic Church naturally is everywhere, and oftentimes priests from all over the church's reach would travel to other parts of it. There is one priest in the show who arrives in later seasons from Ethiopia, and they handled it shockingly well. They explain thoroughly why the Vactican has moved him there, he has a thick accent that makes him different from the Saxons and Danes, and he's the only one of his color in the show to let the audience know he is very much an outsider. Additionally, his presence actually contributes to the plot, and he was not just added for token reasons. Diversity, unlike these "consultants" seem to believe, is not a checkbox that just has be to checked, especially if it doesn't serve to immerse the viewer in the world. And, when you do it, effort needs to be made to ensure that the viewer's suspension of disbelief is not undone. If the creators think it's not doable, then just don't cram diversity in. Simple, and glad to see KC's devs understand this. Also, if you want a medieval fix to hold you over, go watch The Last Kingdom, great show.

As a Slav, this would be my answer:
You have to rephrase this question without using America-centric racial terminology such as "person of color".
In our culture we do not divide people into two races - "white" and "colored". We divide them by ethnicities.
Fortunately Asian Americans are smart enough to not want to be labelled "Yellow"
Bravo!!!!!

It's not fine. It never is, was or will be. No matter where, who or what.

@@irishbob26No it will take in Kuttenberg. So Germans will be very prevalent and Czechs and there will also be Cumans again etc.
The diversity that makes sense in the first game is the prominence of Cumans - a people who originated in Central Asia - among the antagonists. There were also the first stirrings of Protestantism, which would become one of the great ethnic (that is, cultural) dividing lines in Europe thereafter.
In Kuttenberg there will be a lot of Germans in the second game
They don’t care about cultural diversity, they want to see BROWN 😂
Hungarians, Czechs, Germans, and Central Asian Stepp Warriors.
Speaking of religion and ethnicity...I wonder if there are Jewish population in Kuttenberg.
Of course it can be too risky to include them in realistic medieval RPG, but it is also true a medieval trade center is not complete without them...
Kuttenberg in 15th century had half Czech and half German population and that was also reason of quite brutal fight between mostly Czech hussite supporters and German loyalist (I'm curious if it will be in game) also there was also small portion of french/Italian mining Masters. @@DerschwarzeRabe777
The big city they're talking about could be Kuttenberg or Prague. So it could have a wide range of ethnicities like Germans, Bohemians, Slavs, Hungarians and maybe some people from Italy, France and Turkey but to them they're all the same which really shows who the racists are.
Actually the game takes place in 1403 not the 1500's.
1403 is in the 15th century
@@12tanuha2115th century and 1500s are two different things, 15th century refers to the 1400s, from 1401 to 1499, the 1500s refers to the 16th century. That's like saying the 21st century is the 2100s
@@Cutie_Oni but he said it correctly, didnt he?
They did the same things back before the release of the KCD1, and since then they accused the game developers as "Evil Racist/Fascist", I am not surprised that they are doing it again, I just hope Warhorse still stand their ground

Its central europe
By "a wide range of ethnicities" they mean czechs and cumans, just like in the first game.
Also germans. They were very influential in Kuttenberg.
Tatars too
They also revealed one Polish guy. Loud, obnoxious, and vulgar.

But I agree with Dan, better to keep it historically accurate to the Time period.
They should thanks Kotaku for the massive sales increase they are about to receive.
Not really. Some people now think Warhorse is woke due to these dumb headlines.
@@DerschwarzeRabe777 Nah, its not like the studio needs preorder money to fund game development. They are already finishing it in 2 --3 months according to release time table. 2 - 3 more months for internal beta testing to root out bugs and code optimisation.
@@Qwertyuiop4409the KCD Steam forums are a mess and people now believe Vavra has sold out. It’s nuts. The anti woke crowd seems to be very easily influenced. All of those will be in the game again. We’re there Jews in Kuttenberg? Maybe we will see that.
@@raskolnikov6443yes in Central European monarchies (Bohemia, HRE, Poland, Hungary) Jews was very prevalent in cities and often had own ghettos, because central European monarchies wasn't much centralized so Jews served Directly under monarch, and was used for trading purposes, but that also lead to many pogroms from untrusting them.

Biggest issue is that IGN and Kotaku are violently american and dont understand what an "ethnicity" is for europeans. Its not black and white. Its German, Czech, Hungarian, Polish...Germanic, Slavic and, uh, mongol/asian and so on.
yep. and KCD 1 had Germans, Czech and Cumans...
@@thomasbaagaard KCD2, being set in a prominent city of Kuttenberg, will most probably feature Jews as well. The Jewish community was quite numerous at that time in Central Europe.

There is no strength in diversity but there is in common values.
If kotaku hates you, you must be doin something right.😂
Here we go again. When are they shutting down this company, already?
NO.. NO... I bought the game because it was on sale and I knew nothing about it. I LOVE the game because of its story and History. I literally just finished my 4th playthrough. I want to play and learn about Bohemia. I want to see culturally relevant buildings and clothing.
Great, that is basicly a seal of approval that KCD2 will be great. No black Kaangz, cripples or hyper- fegs.
Hopefully the devs don't cave to these idiots. I do have to say that I have a growing list of games I won't need to spend any money on because once they've been infected with the woke virus, I have no desire at all to play them. I'm always sure to check out any game that grifters like Kotaku hates though. I've been in the midst of playing Kingdom Come Deliverance for a while now and greatly enjoying it so far, and it would be a shame for the second game to be ruined by the DIE cult.
People like those from Kotaku tried it when KCD as a kickstarter game was in development. They failed miserable and KCD was a success so why should those lunatics win this time aiming at KCD 2. No chance.
They didn't cave to them when the exact same thing happened after they announced the first game, don't worry, they won't.
They said there would be variety but I guess reasonable what is most probable for that period and place. So all of their neighbouring countries, maybe some people from the east, Arabs, Slavs, Germans, maybe Jews.
@@dominika3762
Why should there be Arabs? The Arabs are far away a few tousend miles. At this time Byzantium still exists and the Hagia Sophia is still a christian church until 1453. And what kind of Slavs? Czech is a slavic language so the native language is a slavic language. Maybe some Poles, Slovakians or Hungarians.
@@gerhardswihla1099 yes, I meant other Slavs. I know Czechs are Slavs too. I wasnt sure about some merchants, if there weren't any Arab ones then there weren't I was just thinking out loud.
I hope Kotaku gets bought by a toilet paper company so I can buy toilet paper with their logo on it! ☺️
When Kotaku managed to publish an article about KCD2 not even 24 hours after initial information reveal of KCD2, then I wonder if Manor Lords (coming out next week to early access) will be next game in line to receive their "review" for "game not having black people doing construction works in game", oh wait...
KCD heavily features the Muslim Turkic Tatars who originate from Asia. That's pretty diverse to me unless if they are only looking for one specific race to be represented and don't count it if it's Asians.
As a Brit I don't want diversity! I want my country represented *ACCURATELY!*
Every country should be in media if that's what you're going for. If this game was about Shaka Zulu you wouldn't see me going gee we need more white people and diversity
Demanding more diversity in a historical game set in a historically homogenous locale, is the same as demanding furries and orcs included in KCD 2. Ridiculous.
We need to reopen insane asylum
there's nothing quite like a bully who swears it's okay because they're bullying for all the rIgHt reasons. I genuinely loathe these progressive activists masquerading as journalists and editors.
Its the Witcher 3 "diversity" thing all over again
A cosmopolitan bohemian city of the 15th century, we can expect 80% bohemian and the rest to be split between
Germans (including austrians)
Slovaks
Cumans
Poles... possibly also Lithuanians
Gypsies
and possibly even if less likely
Italians
Spaniards
Moldovians
Romanian
Slovenians
Maybe some Turkish prisonners
And I could go on
And depending on what definition of white is used, they would be absent or a minority... then again by another definition a story in China with only chinese would be considered an all white cast.
Most of those national identities wouldn't have existed in the early 15th century.
@@Jafar545 they did, it's not because Poland-Lithuania ceased to exist for a while that Poles or Lithuanians didn't exist until recently.
Most european countries started as nation states that came from the races that have been there for centuries if not over a millenium.
Romania may have been split in several states, Valachia being one, but Romanians were still a thing.
@@antoinelambert938 You picked essentially the only two national identities besides maybe Cuman that indeed were a thing back then...
"Races" is American nonsense terminology derived from 17th century pseudo-science.
No one in the early 15th century would have ever even heard the term let alone identified as a specific "race".
It simply meant "Roman" until the 19th century when it became an actual state... Most other Europeans would have called them simply Vlachs or Walachs etc.
As for the rest of your list.
German as a national identity is a 19th century idea developed by the ruling elite to justify a "unification" under Prussia. There wasn't even a somewhat standardized German language until the 16th century...
Slovaks in any form did not exist before the 15th century at the earliest, they were either a part of Hungary, Poland or Austria.
Gypsy as a term for the various nomadic groups wasn't widely used until the 1500s.
Italy existed some time back but by the 1400s it would have been a number of quasi independent city states with distinct culture.
Spaniards, maybe but rather unlikely given that the game supposedly takes place pre Granada so there would be various different kingdoms with diverse cultural identities.
Moldovia, sure.
Slovenians, similiar situation as Slovaks but with an older spoken language.
Czechia is more western then Wiena... we arent eastern europe.

If they bend knee and put many people that dont fit there, im not gonna buy this game.
They won’t. Vavra has made that clear in a very subtle way on Twitter after these articles came out. His “you can trust me” post. I feel bad for him tbh. Always getting attacked. Huge target on his back and now even some in the anti woke crowd, which evidently gets easily played by the press, accused him of going woke. Nuts
Considering it's made by Warhorse, which is headed by Vávra, there is ZERO chance of tokenisms. Vávra hates people like the journalists from Kotaku.
The big draw to this game is the attention to detail, like wearing dark black clothes makes you harder to see in the dark, and there are tons of options in every quest. The thing people complain about was the combat, you just have to train with Bernard till you learn perfect blocks and the game really opens up. My favorite game, I can’t wait for KCD2 and I hope they don’t mess it up lol
A game set in medieval Europe should feature europeans. Medieval Japan should feature japanese and a game set in medieval Africa should feature africans. Simple.

Speaking as a 40k fan, one canonical reason why female Custodes and female spacemarines don't make sense, one reason the Emperor only made male Custodes and Spacemarines because having male and females together they'd get up to hanky panky and possibly create a whole new species of superhumans and be a giant risk for humanity.
