- In the 15th century, Bohemia, now part of the modern-day Czech Republic, was a region with quite a few points of interests in terms of religion, and social structure. However, the level of diversity varied throughout the century due to significant events such as the Hussite Wars.

Ethnic diversity:
The majority of the population was Czech.
There were also significant German-speaking communities, particularly in urban areas and border regions.
A small Jewish population lived primarily in Prague and other towns.
Religious diversity:
Prior to the Hussite Wars, most of the population was Roman Catholic.
The Hussite movement, led by Jan Hus, challenged the authority of the Catholic Church and gained significant followers.
The Hussite Wars (1419-1434) led to a period of religious upheaval and the establishment of the Hussite Church.
Despite the Hussite movement, Catholics remained a significant portion of the population.
There was a small Jewish community practicing Judaism.
Social diversity:
Bohemian society was divided into nobility, clergy, townspeople, and peasants.
The nobility consisted of both Czech and German families.
The clergy was primarily Catholic, but the Hussite movement created a separate religious hierarchy.
Townspeople included artisans, merchants, and other skilled workers.
Peasants made up the majority of the population and worked as farmers or laborers.
It is important to note that while Bohemia had some level of diversity, it was not necessarily a tolerant or inclusive society by modern standards. The Hussite Wars, in particular, led to significant religious and social tensions throughout the 15th century.
During this period, Bohemia had limited contact with regions where black populations were more prevalent, such as Africa or the Middle East.
The vast majority of the population in 15th century Bohemia was of European descent, primarily consisting of Czech, German, and Jewish communities. The feudal system and limited long-distance trade meant that there was relatively little migration from distant regions.

Any movie, series or game that is set in a historical time period and is setting historical accuracy at the forefront, nothing of our current time period nor it's politics, morals and views, should be projected into that historical period, for by doing so the historical accuracy absolutely gets lost by design, resulting in the destruction of the goal - to be historically accurate.

Not probably obviously! Some did venture into parts of North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, but I doubt many in high numbers went to Northern Europe towards Bohemia.

I think many of those voices actually are from the US, maybe UK, where indeed today many black people are present, but they might have no idea about central/eastern Europe, where it's quite rare to meet any black people. Especially in all the countries that are former Soviet states (as we saw in the map in this video).

True. Whenever liberal Americans talk about diversity and inclusivity, they always leave out Asians (excluding Middle East) and indigenous peoples and only talk about Hispanics, blacks, and Muslims.
Indeed, Chinese, Thai, and Japanese individuals have already been included as non-members of people of color in the United States. This may have been done to create vacancies in the DEI rankings, I presume. Alternatively, it could be an attempt to obtain additional subsidies for those who are idle.

I think if the game was in Genoa or Venice, there would be few black traders. But Czechia is far far away from the sea, there are mountains you would have to cross and for what? You are moving from largest trade centers in Europe to north to do what? We actually had some Arabs, contrast on some - there is an evidence of a SINGLE Arab trader/traveler moving to Prague, our capital. He came here not only because of trade, but because he was a traveler interested in seeing distant places. And it was so weird that people wrote about him if I recall correctly and he wrote about it himself as well. And we talk about a single Arab in the capital who was there once for few days. Black people would be so weird to people in Bohemia. Even in the capital. In small village? Even nowadays there are none. Most people today in Czech villages did not see a black person in their life, only on TV.

Kingdom Come Deliverance has a homosexual character and he is handled very authentically. He has given himself over to be a monk in order not to give in to his desires, and you have the option of giving him a personally supportive word. "That's not my business, it's between you and Our Lord." when he is worried you're going to mock him. Iirc when the interaction comes up you can mock him, show fear, or offer him encouragement in his difficult spiritual walk. They handled it perfectly, for giving the option to be respectful and remaining historically accurate.
Contrast that to Witcher 3 where there is a token, tacked on gay quest. But you cannot affect the quest in any way apart from clicking the button to advance to next line of monologue. Box-ticking exercise.

The KCD 2 game presents our history as it was, and has nothing to do with today's discrimination of any race, religion, or sexual orientation. If there is one thing I am certain about in my life it is that Daniel Vávra would never even try to change history in this way. He is an idiot with really questionable opinions sometimes, but he is without a doubt a great game developer.

@@RenaudKyoku In the Czech dictionary, "diversity" does not mean people of a certain race, orientation or faith. :D Diversity means diversity in the environment = landscape, houses, monuments, and also the behavior of NPCs, which should be more realistic and shape the atmosphere of the given time. And also gameplay variety = improved combat, more gameplay options, such as developing your character as a personality based on decisions. That's diversity. ;)

It is interesting that no one has yet mentioned one specific historical source that describes an encounter of Czechs with African blacks in the 15th century. In 1465 (about two generations after the story of KC-D takes place), the King of Bohemia sent an envoy to the Duke of Burgundy, King of France and King of Portugal. A member of the delegation was a young knight named Václav Šašek of Bířkov, who left a lengthy travelogue. During a visit to Lisbon, Czech diplomats saw black slaves imported from Africa and asked the Portuguese nobles about their origins. Václav Šašek recorded this episode as remarkable.
Yes that was under king George of Poděbrady, so called "Hussite King" he sent a "propaganda" contingent around Europe to prove Czechs aren't "devil sinner's" but a knighthood Land. He also proposed something like "European union" in medieval times with heart at France , but got approval only in Poland.
Archeologist from Scandinavia here. Im super grateful for Metatron's content here on youtube. Where so many other creators fall short in the neutral and scientific without politics approach the Metatron stand strong! Its truly a breath of fresh air and I strongly support and stand behind this content which is strongly aligned with what I was taught in university here. Just pure and simple historical accuracy should always be a pillar when creating or sharing information/content.

I found an archeology channel the other day that was interesting. It took less than 15 minutes for the topic to swap to "the Alt Right Pipeline."
The game devs take pride in that series having as much historical accuracy as possible. Anyone wanting to deviate from said historical accuracy is actually trying to distort history for the sake of propaganda.

It really matters to me too because my love of history started with playing assassins creed back in the late 2000s. They wrote the story in a way where your character is peripheral to real history unfolding around you without altering it (too much). Games can be a gateway to other varied interests when every aspect is treated with care by the writers and devs. If you play the new AC you’re not going to be getting that authenticity, clearly.
The only time I would want the game let me subvert historical accuracy is if it let me do fun video game stuff like kill the king or build a castle.

Kutná Hora city - Kuttenberg will be definitely the most diverse location from both KCD 1 and KCD 2. There is possibility to meet Czechs, Moravians, Silesians, German, Italians and Jews. There is a small chance to meet people from other close countries like Hungarians, Poles or French. But to meet someone from Subsaharian Africa? Very unlikely.

People complaining about women in the first game is bonkers to me. They literally made a DLC called Women's Lot where you play as Theresa and it's one of the best DLC in the game. Instead of head on fighting it forces you to play stealthily and tactically. Guess they don't like REAL strong and empowered women because that's exactly what Theresa was.
They ignored the part where she saves Henry.
Well, a lot of the people who like to complain about the things you mentioned believe that there isn't a real difference between men and women, that the supposed differences between the 2 sexes are just enforced by a sexist patriarchal society.

One funny thing about KCD1 is that black people were breifly mentioned in one tavern talk, the local charlatan was talking about how he saw a man in prague in all black as if he was the shadow or something like that, when i heard it late at night in the tavern it made me chukle mostly when the locals talking with the charlatan did not belive him at all.
Funny thing is- Warhorse's last expansion for KCD was Women's Lot what let you see world from Theressa's pov. Way they implemented it to game in my humble opinion was great, she knew realities of her situation and surroundings and went through huge personal drama and through her view we saw what we couldn't see with in Henry's pov. Yet this political activists would only be happy if Theressa would have been main character, having love relation with black women and become Emperor of Holy Roman Empire.
I feel really bad for Daniel Vavra. They used against him the worst insults possible just because he wanted his own game to be as historically accurate as possible. In fact, he even had to cancel his promotional visit to Spain, where the political climate is very polarized and conflictive, just because the spanish press and social media were literaly calling him n3Zi. But, Dan himself said that due to current western insanity, he often wonders how much he self-censors subconsciously in order to avoid unwanted controversies. Nobody wants to release a game they work on for 5 years and then get plastered all over game journalist websites as someone horrible.

what I find the craziest about people wanting black people in historically accurate games like KCD is the fact that if there WERE black people in the game the historically accurate dialogue from NPCs walking around and seeing them would be too offensive to actually include. Can you imagine the sorts of things a Bohemian farmer would say upon seeing a black dude for the first time?

Curly black hair and black eyes occur in many Czech songs and are a sign of magic and betrayal and demonic powers. Skin colour isn't mentioned at all, it's always the hair and eyes. Even when people say that somebody is black, they are talking about hair and eyes, not necessarily the skin. A white person with dark hair and eyes will be talked about as "black" so there's another problem with relying on written sources.

As a Czech, I think Kingdom Come is well representative of our history. I don't know why some people feel the need to change it, personally I think Africa has a very interesting and to many people unknown history and if someone wants to make a game based on it, I'll be happy to play it. As a Czech, this theatre was incredibly arrogant and ignorant. I grew up in a much bigger town than Rataje (the biggest town in KCD1) and I first saw a black person when I was 20. In Rataje, you do not have to speak about "traders" in middle age, my god!! Go there now, sit down at the main street and count blacks passing by. There is none even if you sit there the whole year.
Well, to be fair, due to KCD's popularisation of Rataje and surroundings, there might be some black tourist there once in a blue moon xD

Yeah, I commute on public transport through the city center and the main square of Brno (2nd largest city in Czechia) every workday twice and I can count on one hand how many black people I see in a year.

I mean, if you choose something else than male or female, there's a very high chance you'll just be treated like male or female anyways. They weren't that eager to burn people unless they literally caught them in the act of having gay sex.

I remember reading about the case of a person who was born with both male and female sex characteristics and who was raised as a girl. Later on that person fell in love with a woman and wanted to marry them, which obviously they couldn't just do like that because well, same sex marriage was not allowed. This person was able to go to a court and manage to be legally recognized as a man instead after proving that they had male sexual characteristics, which meant they got the go-ahead to marry the woman they loved and were granted all other legal privileges of being a man.
A lot of the time, the people back then weren't outright hateful, they just weren't sure how to categorize certain things and unless the subject was gay sex which the bible explicitly condemned, there often was a bit of room for negotiation.

You couldnt be historian to know, that in the medieval era was practicly zero black people in Bohemia.
They understand what they're doing and thus have a deliberate intention of changing history. Black knights didn't exist. Even in Spain, where the Moors ruled, there were a few black people present, but they were mostly servants or soldiers, not knights or in positions of power. At the very least, they should give the black character a Moorish background.

Than again, I am yet to see good source confirming african individuals, let alone settlements, in medieval central europe. What I know is one polish bishop named "Maurus", which can be both interpreted as him being from north Africa or some pet form of name "Maurice".
There is already a gay character in KCD. In the monastery one of the novices is so deviated he was forced into cloister.
The main bad guy Istvan Toth is also gay and you capture his lover and use him to negotiate the end of the final seige. People complained without even playing.

It is simple. I am Czech. I live in city of 50K inhabitants. In my 37 years of living here, I have never met person of african descent in this town. Seriously. Never. And that is in 21st century, age of airplanes and globalization. Yes, we have roma, vietnamese, slovak and ukrainian minorities here. Most of whom arrived in 20th and 21st century (Roma started arriving in 15th I think). Now, I am not saying there is no black person in my city, but I doubt there are any significant numbers and if I was making a game about my city, I would not portray it as 2024 NYC, I can tell you that. I am extremely annoyed by western (mostly americans and brits) culture warriors who demand that everyone must cater to their imperialist US-centric melting pot view of the world. In fact, I find their obsession with black people in particular kind of creepy.
